Opposing with Intimidate, so 1d20+5 = 7, ow. Forever Boy's demoralized, so -2 to attacks and checks for a turn. Move Action to fly closer to Platinum Porpoise, bringing him in reach as Pan begins to panic. Using Move-by feat to attack halfway through the movement. Attack at Platinum Porpoise with Tracker Blast: 1d20+14-2 = 15 . Pan is getting desperate to end this quickly, so spending a Hero Point to reroll. 1d20+14-2 = 2+14-2, so adding up to 12+14-2 = 24 for HP spent. DC 21 Toughness save if it hits.

Pan stiffened a bit in his seat as the headmistress began talking. Even if he had been tempted to say something, he clammed up at the mention of sitting on the benches indefinitely. Nope, he could find much better uses of his time. Still, it made him pay full attention. He liked the bit about heroes, at least. He was a hero back home, at least to some. If this was what was needed to become a hero here too, then this is what he would do. The bit about them being children stung a little bit. Pan had always been the young one, the child, the Forever Boy. So what was so bad about still being a child? Whatever the reason, he looked forward to what these changes would be. Probably not something he had been told about when he signed up for the Academy. He crossed his arms and leaned light back in his seat, his eyes fixed on the headmistress.

Having forgotten everything about even trying to stay grounded, Pan floated around Danica as she explained about her shell. He had bent his legs at the knee and pulled them up under himself, and he was slowly starting to turn around, trying to get a good look at the shell at some different angles. He grinned at Elizabeth's idea of flight, while quickly looking over Jack. Yes, he could probably pick Danica up, at least without the shell, but being thrown wouldn't be flight. Not proper flight, at least. Letting go of his legs and remembering to stop flying, Pan set down again and followed closely as Danica took them to the gym. He was a bit torn. He kind of wanted to go in and see the gym, figure out how everything works, try and fly, but if there were going to be orientation for it later, he could probably just spend the time actually having a look around the campus. His curiosity won out. "How about we have a quick look?" He stopped himself before he floated over to the door, instead taking a few quick steps and opening the door to look inside.

Gonna be on a vacation with no laptop for about a week starting Monday. Might pop up on discord or try to do the odd post by phone, but probably not a lot.

pl12 Dust Devil II (PL 12) - RocketLord
RocketLord replied to RocketLord's topic in Archived Characters
Combat Fixed Skills I honestly have no idea where that 17 comes from aside from a mistype. Fixed. Powers I had completely missed that house rule. I've taken out Magic Awareness and saving it for later, when he gets some PP. I'll buy a rank of Luck instead. All tallies should be fixed.- 7 replies

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what the character's power and such are at the moment, but this was an idea that popped up, but I thought I'd ask before committing myself to it. The build does something along the lines of what I was thinking, with a character being able to move up and down on the two axes.
-
I asked this on discord but without us ever really getting to a decision, so putting it out here. According to the manual, you can have different tradeoffs for different attacks. But what about different tradeoffs for different defenses? My thinking was a character that would have the base +5 Toughness, +5 Defense scores. Then, array that could give up to +10 Toughness or up to +10 Defense, via powers like Force Field, Protection, Enhanced Defense or something like that. It could possibly be a dynamic array, allowing the character to shift along the axis. Is that something that is allowed?

Dialog on this in PM - TA So, running Forever Boy through Herolab showed me a mistake about his Blast power, and then there's the DC Block being wrong for Toughness related effects. Since Homing is a Power Feat and not a Power Extra, please update the Alternate Power: Blast in the Tricks Array to this: Alternate Power: Blast 8 (Tracker Blast; Feats: Accurate 1, Homing) {18/20} That's a different tradeoff than Pan's usual, so if it should be added under tradeoffs, then please add this where appropriate: (+2 Attack, -2 Damage: Tracker Blast) And another section to his attack stats: +12 Tracker Blast (+5 Base, +5 Attack Focus [Ranged], +2 Accurate) I've updated Unarmed and Tracker Blast to be the proper 15+Str / 15+Level instead of forgetting the Str mod for Unarmed and doing 10+Level for Tracker Blast. Updated Tricks Array based on PMs, as well as updated trade-offs, attack bonuses and DC Block: Trade-Offs: (Tracker Blast) +2 Attack / -2 DC, (Stun Burst, Fireworks) +4 Attack / - 4 DC, +5 Defense / -5 Toughness Attack: +5 Melee, +10 Ranged (+5 Base, +5 Attack Focus [Ranged]), +12 Tracker Blast (+5 Base, +5 Attack Focus [Ranged], +2 Accurate), +14 Stun Burst, Fireworks (+5 Base, +5 Attack Focus [Ranged], +4 Accurate) Tricks Array 10 (20 PP Array; Feats: Alternate Power 4) 24PP] (light, chi, trained) Base Power: Stun 6 (Stun Burst; Extras: Ranged; Feats: Accurate 2) {20/20} Alternate Power: Blast 8 (Tracker Blast; Extras: Homing; Feats: Accurate 1) {20/20} Alternate Power: Confuse 6 (Mind Wave ; Extras: Area, Selective, Subtle 2) {20/20} (mental) Alternate Power: Dazzle 6 (Fireworks, affects visual and auditory senses; Feats: Accurate 2) {20/20} Alternate Power: Snare 10 (Binding Bands) {20/20} (kinetic, light) DC Block ATTACK RANGE SAVE EFFECT Unarmed Touch DC 17 Toughness Damage Stun Burst Ranged DC 16 Fortitude Dazed/Stun/Unconscious Tracker Blast Ranged DC 23 Toughness Damage Fireworks Ranged DC 16 Reflex Auditory/Visual Senses Useless Binding Bands Ranged DC 20 Reflex Entangled/Bound Mind Wave Ranged DC 16 Will Confused

"It is pretty great to fly, yes." Pan almost beamed with pride. He was understating the feeling, really. He loved flying, and he was doing everything he could to stay rooted to the ground right now. He was brought out of the thoughts when he saw Elizabeth's finger bounce off Danica, and then a tortoise shell appeared around her. Pan stared with open mouth a the design that appeared on it, quickly memorizing them. Golden starbust patterns everywhere. It was amazing. For some reason, it just made him feel safe. Then it disappeared. He hadn't even noticed that he had started floating, flying up on the right side of Danica and leaving a shimmering golden trail that quickly faded behind him. "That was awesome!" He kind of wanted to try poking her to bring it up again, but he stopped himself. "That was a tortoise shell, right? I've seen them before, but I've never seen one with a pattern like that!"

The headmistress stepped up on the stage, and Pan could almost feel the atmosphere change in the assembly room. It wasn't all at once, it was gradual, but still, it was there. He grinned back at Selena. Oh, he would look forward to hearing what she could come up with, even if he had to focus for now. "I'll hold you to that." He gave a quick wink to Judy and Lulu before turning to face the stage. He had noticed the others getting out notebooks and things to write with. He hadn't thought about actually having to write down notes for the assembly. He wondered if he would get behind from that, but otherwise he'd just wing it. That had worked out so far, at least.
-
Pan looked back at the bullet that was now lying on the ground, with little winged bullets flying around it. This was so weird. He wanted to respond to Lucy, but no sense in giving his position away yet, as he started floating through the golden mists he had created. Get closer, but not too close. He had no idea what they would be able to do if he got up close, after all. Still, it was the perfect time for him to do his little Mind Wave trick. A smile played over his lips as he targeted the two toons. Confuse them, maybe hope they start squabbling a bit amongst themselves. That would work well.
-
Well, Pan is going to use Confuse from his Tricks array on the toons. Will DC 16 save to avoid being confused. And he's slowly moving closer.

A story called Peter Pan? There were stories that could be about him in this world? All of Danica's comments just hit spot on. Never-Never Land was too close to Neverworld. Captain Hook and the Hooked Man. And he did indeed lead a band of pirates that pillaged the entire world, if they had the chance. And Tinkerbell? Pan knew a pixie named Tinker. It had been one of the pixies that had helped him out as he grew up. It had had followed him to the Lost Heroes and was there when they managed to summon the Crocodile. He wondered where it had gone. Pan was knocked from his shock when he finally managed to notice Jack's presence. He was, quite frankly, way too tall. Looking up, Pan blinked for a second before regaining his composure, the smile returning to his face. He would have to look into this Peter Pan, but not now. Now he had to return to reality for a moment. "Ah, hello Jack. I am not quite sure what I will be doing once I finish here at the Academy, to be honest. I'm kind of here to learn about this world and figure all that out. Nice to meet you, my friend." He turned back to Danica. "Sorry for my brief... moment. The gym sounds interesting. I think I would like to try that aerial course at some point."

Ashley did not like talking about their home. Noted. Pan's eyes turned serious for a moment as he looked at her, giving her a slight nod, before he turned back to Judy, Lulu and Selena with a wide grin on his lips. "I'm afraid I don't know what ninjas are. We had pixies, sea monsters, giant birds. I fought a giant squid at one point. That was fun." He liked what he heard about Alabama and Puerto Rico, though, even if he couldn't place how the historical details fit. "That I would have liked to see!" he responded to the story about the magician that turned himself into a girl. He had joined Claremont both to have a place to be and get some direction in this world, but so far, all the stories he had heard here made it out to be a wonderful place. "Do you have any other stories like that? I would love to hear some more."
-
Alabama and Puerto Rico? Pan had never heard of these places, but it sounded like they were far away from here. The names were so different from a name like Freedom City, and with far less telling names. He wondered if the names meant anything, in the same way as Freedom City obviously did. Pan waved off Selena's apology. It really wasn't needed, as far as he was concerned. He was much more interested in hearing more about Alabama, Puerto Rica and the world that Judy and Ashley were from. "So, what about your world, Judy? And Alabama and Puerto Rico? I haven't heard anything about these places. What are they like?" His curiosity was getting the better of him, but he didn't really think much about it. He had all but forgotten the reason that he was even at this assembly.
-
Forever Boy Pan blinked a bit at Elizabeth's comment about the Crocodile and the Hooked Man. Did she konw about them? How could she possibly know about them? And then she pulled that hat from out of nowhere. The color was wrong, it should be a darker shade of red, and it seemed too new, but otherwise, it looked just like the Hooked Man's prized hat. Oh, he had gotten so mad whenever Pan had managed to steal it from him or had otherwise thrown it away. Pan's surprise were visible on his face. His eyes were wide open, and his mouth felt dry when Elizabeth said that line. Oh, that horrible line that he had heard so many times. He remained frozen for a moment, before blinking and shaking his head. He did not mean to ignore Danica, but Elizabeth's knowledge was simply baffling. "How do you know that?"

Forever Boy "No, no, its not rude at all. I've gotten quite a bit of different reactions to it. And apparently there's several stories in this world that seems to be based on Neverworld." Pan shrugged at the last bit. He honestly didn't know how he felt about that quite yet. He had only learned about it the day before, after all. "I don't know if I would call Neverworld "nice" exactly, but every day was an adventure, at least. We had flying ships, pixies and mermaids. Cyborgs and pirates, or even pirate cyborgs. I'd love to tell you more and hear about your world, but perhaps after the assembly?" Pan motioned to Lulu and the other girl that joined them, settling in the seats next to Judy. Pan smiled at them, doing a quick wave. So many new faces, so many new friends-to-be. "Hello, I'm Pan. Nice to meet you both. Are you new as well?"
-
Forever Boy He got him! For a brief moment, a triumphant grin played over Pan's lips, and then the Electrum Eagle broke the golden bonds, sending rapidly disintegrating bits and pieces of them flying all around him. That was far from ideal. It seemed like whatever trick Pan had tried, these two had just been able to shrug it off. Fine, a more direct approach then, at least for the moment. And then Electrum Eagle had started chanting again, not even caring that Pan was there. That was just annoying. Pan pulled his hand back, a glowing ball of golden energy forming in it. "Hey! I'm not done with you, feathers-for-brains!" He threw the golden ball straight for Electrum Eagle, before starting to move to the side. The Porpoise guy was coming closer and he needed to get into a position where he could see them both.

Dust Devil II Power Level: 12 (185/188PP) Unspent Power Points: 3 Trade-Offs: -5 Defense / +5 Toughness In Brief: The successor of the Dust Devil legacy, expanding his protectorate beyond just Magic Mesa. Theme: Shakedown - The Score Alternate Identity: Cassidy Collins (Secret) Birthplace: Southside, Freedom City Residence: Southside, Freedom City Base of Operations: Freedom City & Magic Mesa Occupation: Grocery store stocker Affiliations: Magic Mesa Family: John Collins (father, grocery store manager), Pearl Collins (née Hart, mother, dance studio teacher), William 'Billy' Collins (16 years younger brother, student), Benjamin "Uncle Ben" Collins (paternal uncle, unemployed) Description: Age: 26 (DoB: June 5th, 1992) Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'10'' Weight: 175 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Cassidy stands at 5'10'' with an athletic build. He has short black hair and a full beard. He is average looking, never tending to stand out in crowds. He usually dresses casually in jeans and t-shirts, wearing a denim jacket if necessary. He tends to wear dark red or grey colors. As the Dust Devil II, Cassidy wears grey pants and black shoes. He wears a dark grey shirts with white patterns across the torso and lower arms, as seen in the picture below, wearing black gloves on his hands. He wears a grey bandana as a mask that hides his upper face. History: Cassidy Collins grew up as an average boy from Freedom City's Southside district. A slacker at heart, he never amounted to much, rarely having any motion or drive beyond just getting through the day so he could read comics, play games or hang out with his friends. He didn't excel at school, he only did a little sports if it was a game with friends or something that he had to do, and his parents John and Pearl grew to accept that he would most likely never amount to much. He was trusting of everyone, to the point of being naïve, which would often get him into trouble. Cassidy's parents blamed the influence of his beloved uncle Benjamin Collins, a conman that moved in and out of the prison system. At least some of it changed when Cassidy's brother William was born a few months after Cassidy turned 16. Immediately taking a shine to his baby brother, Cassidy would spend hours playing with and doting on his brother. Graduating from high school, Cassidy even went through a series of jobs to help support his somewhat struggling family, though he would never be able to hold a job for long. He just didn't show the interest in the work or he would be caught slacking off. Still, Cassidy's uncle Ben would show up to help him from time to time, whether it was finding him a new job or offer moral support. Eventually, Cassidy moved into his own place, a tiny one room apartment in Southside, though he would still make frequent visits to his family. Cassidy's life would change drastically when he lost his latest job. Declining his father's offer to come work in the grocery store that he managed, Cassidy instead accepted to come work with uncle Ben. Unfortunately, uncle Ben was an even worse influence than Pearl and John had feared. A short while later, they went on a road trip to meet with one of uncle Ben's clients in the American South West. Cassidy believed that he was simple coming along to keep his uncle company and occasionally carry heavy cases of equipment. Cassidy thought it was strange that they had to drive all the way out in the desert to do the trade, but uncle Ben would have to know best. After all, he was his uncle, and Cassidy had never had a reason not to trust him. Out in the desert, Cassidy accidentally opened one of the cases and discovered its contents: Alien weaponry, stolen wreckage from the 2018 Terminus invasion. Cassidy panicked, alerting uncle Ben's buyers to his presence. With a single "Sorry" and explanation that it was simply business, uncle Ben shot Cassidy three times in the chest. As Cassidy fell over, his uncle Ben returned to his buyers. Hours later, Cassidy opened his eyes. It was a miracle that he still lived. Only, he didn't. He could no longer feel his heart beating. Uncle Ben and his buyers had disappeared, and vultures were circling overhead. He knew that he was now in the Magic Mesa, and he knew that it had brought him back to become its new guardian, as the newest Dust Devil. Cassidy had little choice in the matter, and at first, he simply wanted to give up. He had been betrayed and killed. Even with the new powers he instinctively knew he possessed, he was the wrong man for the job. Then he realized that uncle Ben might come from the rest of his family. Reacting by instinct, Cassidy travelled through the sand for the first time, returning to Southside. Shocked at his newfound abilities, he accepted his charge. While he returned to his parents, he kept the details of the falling out with uncle Ben to himself, instead simply saying that he was dangerous and they should stay away from them, while he also accepted a job as stocker in his father's grocery store. Now, Cassidy finds himself driven to fight evil where he finds it. He feels a passion and drive unlike any before, as he steps into the role of the Dust Devil, not just to protect the Magic Mesa and his family, but to make sure what happened to him happens to no one else. Personality & Motivation: Before his transformation into the Dust Devil, Cassidy was a slacker. He made his way through school without much effort or accomplishment, which informed his attitude to most of everything in his life. Cassidy were trusting of others, often being called naïve. Never really getting excited about anything or trying to get involved, Cassidy just followed along with what others told him. The only exception were his family. Caring deeply for his much younger brother, Cassidy would do anything for him and his parents. He secretly felt ashamed of his lack of drive and initiative, but never shared it with anyone. After becoming the Dust Devil, Cassidy has become a much more driven individual. While he has lost much of his unconditional trust in others, Cassidy has leaned into the role of a hero, now being more than willing to put himself in harm's way to save others, and actively seeking out injustice to fight and wrongs to right. He rarely speaks much, letting his actions speak for him instead. He is troubled about his ressurection and what it means for him, and just what he has become. Cassidy is not fully sure what the Magic Mesa wants with him, and wonders what will happen if there is ever a conflict between himself and the Magic Mesa. Powers & Tactics: Cassidy's power was granted by the Magic Mesa, making them magical in nature. He prefers to get up close and personal, where his strength can be used to effectively disable his opponents. He trusts in his great durability to protect him against most attacks, leading to him often trying to protect others. Not above dirty tricks, he will turn to sand to seemingly disappear and strike at his opponent without them knowing what hit them. Power Descriptions: All of Cassidy's powers come from the magic of the Magic Mesa. Appointed as the Mesa' newest Dust Devil, Cassidy has become a being of living sand. Like the previous Dust Devil, Cassidy cannot be killed and he requires no rest or sustenance, and while he has yet to see the signs, he has stopped aging. He is incredibly resilient to damage, being able to shrug off most attacks and being unaffected by most kinds of poison and diseases. He posses incredible strength, only just learning the limits to his power. He can sense magic around him, just getting a feeling that there is something weird going on, though he has yet to explore this ability. While Cassidy's body normally appears fully human, he is able to to reshape it in various ways. He can become a cloud of sand, allowing himself to move freely through small cracks and become immune to most types of physical damage, or he can merge with sand around him, using it as a medium for travelling great distances. This is even possible if the sand at his location and destination is not directly connected. By manipulating the sand in his body, Cassidy is able to fly at roughly 25 mph. With Cassidy's mastery of his new body and abilities having grown, the disconnect that let to him creating weapons out of sand has disappeared, and he is now able to directly reshape his body into various weapons and extending his reach, or directly shoot sand out of his body in various forms, whether as quick blasts of hardened sand or longer storm effects that can push enemies back, without the need for creating fake weapons out of sand to do the work for him. Starting to tap into the mystic side of his abilities, he can create wide ranging sandstorms around him that only affects those that he wants, and can use the temporal abilities of the Magic Mesa to rapidly dehydrate enemies around them, making them easier to hurt. *All of Cassidy's powers has the Magic and Sand descriptors, with some having additional descriptors as noted. Complications: Dead Like Me: Cassidy died. Then he came back. The experience was traumatic, and he has yet to deal with all his feelings on the matter. The experience has changed him greatly, even as he tries to put on a brave face for his family. Guardian of Magic Mesa: Cassidy's powers come with a price. While not as strictly bound as the first Dust Devil, he must protect the Magic Mesa if needed, forcefully being drawn to its protection. This can both mean direct threats at the Magic Mesa, as well as more indirect threats, such as those whose actions could simply threaten the gateways between worlds. This can lead to Cassidy becoming involved in situations and battles he would rather have avoided, or being forced to abruptly leave his current location. Dust Devil Legacy: The Dust Devil is an almost mythic figure. The protector of Magic Mesa, he is a ruthless guardian. Those that know of the first Dust Devil can be predisposed towards Cassidy, for good or bad. Whatever Happened to the Dust Devil: The old Dust Devil is gone, and Cassidy has taken his place as guardian of Magic Mesa. He doesn't know whether the first Dust Devil moved on, died or was otherwise rendered unable to fulfill his duties. Betrayed: Cassidy was betrayed and killed by his own uncle. He understandably has some trouble fully trusting others. Man of Sand: While he is able to become human, Cassidy is essentially a being of living sand. He is starting to grasp the implications of just what his powers mean, and he fears that he is no longer considered human. He might react badly if confronted with this fact. Dutiful Brother & Son: Cassidy cares deeply for his parents and younger brother. They're both a strength and a weakness. Desperado: Cassidy tries to keep his identity as the Dust Devil a secret. Not even his parents and brother know his secret, which is starting to create some friction. Forever Boy Ashley and Judy, then. Pan smiled back at Ashley's nod, though she seemed far more interested in the people entering the building. Looking over his shoulder for a moment, Pan recognized Elizabeth near the young woman that had made the noise. He made a short wave to Danica as she entered. With the speed she moved, it was really no wonder she used that wonderful machine to get around. Turning back to Judy, still leaning slightly over to look past Ashley, he continued to smile at her. "Why, thank you. I do believe it is quite unusual around here, right?" He did love to talk about his adventures, but knowing little of how much time he had before the assembly would begin, Pan decided to be a bit quick about it. "I'm from another world entirely. I'm not quite sure where it is, and I have heard some theories about it being a, to you, alien planet, another dimension or reality entirely, but we just called it Neverworld." He cringed a bit at saying the name out loud, after all, who knew when he could return? "I don't know quite how I ended up here, but so far, I'm stuck, so I can just as well make the most of it. How about you two? You don't strike me as locals." He was genuinely interested. There was something he couldn't quite place that he found really interesting about their accents.

Forever Boy "Well, yes. Imagine how I feel." Pan shot back at Elizabeth with a smile playing over his lips. His tone of voice made it clear that he was joking. "But I'm trying to enjoy my time here, at least. So far, it's been fun." He turned to Danica, a wide grin spreading over his lips. He loved to tell stories of his adventures, after all. "It was brilliant! Action and adventure everywhere! I didn't really want to leave, and I don't exactly know how I did, but we were fighting the Hooked Man, and he was winning. Then I cut off his hand and the Crocodile appeared! We had been searching for it for years, and it was gigantic, but then everything went black and I found myself here." He looked over the empty field, wondering a bit about all the different sports that Danica mentioned. That could be fun to participate in, but it was all such weird names. Only football made sense from the name. Something with a ball that you play with your feet, obviously. He kind of wanted to go over to the field house that Danica pointed out to explore, but he decided to stick with the others, reminding himself to touch down and stop floating again. "It is cool to be from Freedom City! I had never seen anything like it before!"

"Oh, hello Judy. And yes, it is my first day." Pan flashed the long-haired girl a bright smile, while leaning slight over to look past the angry-looking girl. Still, he thought it would be at least an attempt at being polite to address the other girl as well, so he turned slightly to smile at her too, before returning his attention to Judy. There was something fascinating about her accent. "I'm Pan, happy to meet you." There was something interesting about Judy's accent. He hadn't heard others quite like it in his time here. Perhaps Judy's color-coordinated sister had a similiar one.
