Nevermore II "The tapes sound like a good place to start." Rubenstein didn't sound too sure about his guard actually doing his jobs. There might be something more there, but nothing he should dig into just yet. Terrifica might trust this guy, but that didn't mean that Charlie should right away. "What's your security like? Just cameras, or something more?" Just diamonds? Either Rubenstein really cared about people (which was good, of course), or he was absolutely loaded, if he could afford to lose diamonds like that. "Reminds me, can I take a look at the cameras?" Alek had taught him to look for tampering. Better safe than sorry, in case anyone had done something to them.

Casper didn't know a lot about cats, but the way she was moving her tail and ears, the way she was starting to get agitated... yeah, he probably made a wrong step there. He knelt down closer to her, quickly putting a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, kid. Easy. I don't know you, sure. You don't know me either. Sometimes, it's better to talk to someone you don't know." He smiled behind his mask, which could at least be seen in his yes. "And I'll freely admit that I got no idea what you just said, but c'mon. I promise I'm not gonna judge or laugh or whatever. I mean, look at me: My whole thing's basically a massive guilt trip. Couldn't stop trying to save people even if I tried to. Trust me, I've tried to stop lots of times, always gets pulled back in when I see somebody in trouble."

GHOST Casper shrugged. "Simpler times. Not everything needs to be some deeper, hidden meaning, y'know." He shook his name at the pun, but grinned under the mask, while his feet slowly lifted off from the ground. "Got something wrong, there. Nobody busts this ghost, kid." Ghost waved briefly. "Take care of yourself. Remember, nothing wrong in asking for help." Then he was off, flying through the night.
-
GHOST The dragon kid seemed to be doing alright, the other looked real down. Casper sighed, patting Nightscale on the shoulder while he moved past him. "Sure. Kingston, Fens, downtown. I'm all over." He grabbed a little card. Had a burner phone, nothing that could be traced to Casper Church, but still... these kids looked like they could need the help. He hesitated for a moment before he handed the card to Nightscale. "Better not get prank called in the middle of the night, kid." Moving over to Paper, he crossed his arms and shook his head lightly, it seemed to be more out of pity than anything else. "Lemme guess: Your first femme fatale?"

"Torpedo Lass? I've heard of you, good to see you back in action." Oh, that was good. She could probably do something about all those green skins that were running around. Then again... so could Casper. He spotted Comrade Frost not too far away, flailing some net around. A woman flew up with a trail of fire behind... and that dragon kid was getting mixed up in this too. Why wasn't he surprised? "I'm just the friendly neighborhood Ghost." Right, Frost was there, so Casper should put in the work. Letting himself drop to the ground, he went solid once more as he made a perfect three point landing, then focused. Pattern and shapes of transparency spread out from him in the ground, towards the goblins that surrounded them, snaking around him and catching up to them. Any of them caught in the transparent started sinking into the ground, at least until they reached their ankles, enough to, hopefully, stop them in their tracks. He even let it spread up to some of the walls that the burning woman had created, catching a few goblins inside those walls. "Anyone wanna grab them, now's the chance!"

Archer II Burned the arrows right out of the air. Didn't even let them touch her. Explosion took down some goons, but didn't touch Sister Blister or Maravilla. Great. Indirect attacks, then. Keep her off balance. Keep the second thermite arrow in reserve, just for another moment. Connor let a couple of arrows fly towards Sister Blister, all of them sending trails of turning, twisting lights along the way, enough to, hopefully, stun her for a moment. Ducking to the side, Connor quickly moved to another position, moving behind any cover he could find.
-
Alright, Sister Blister seems to be the big issue right now. Gonna fire some Autofire Strobe Light Arrow at her: AP: Paralyze 6 (Feats: Improved Range 2; Extras: Alternate Save [Will], Range [Ranged]; Flaws: Sense-Dependent [Visual]) {14/14DP} (Descriptors: Strobe Light Arrow, Light, Hypnotic Pattern) Attack: 25 DC16 + Autofire Will Save vs. Paralyze if that hits. Gonna move to the side after, doing his best to stay out of sight.

"I think I get what you mean." James sounded almost melancholic for a moment. "It isn't easy being far from home." James made a point out of not being in the cockpit, and that he was properly strapped in. His armor might protect him, but he didn't actually want to take any chances, and the Bird had started chattering to him about flying in a big metal box and how it would be much better to go out and really fly. He seemed almost absent for a moment, when Patriot asked if they were alright. "Y-yes, I t-think so." He didn't sound even half as sure as he tried to sound. "J-just w-weird to be f-flying inside s-something like t-this."

"Y-yes. There's been many Freedom Eagles b-before me," James stammered in response to his storied name. He, quite obviously, didn't look like he thought he lived up to that name. He listened with some intensity to Phalanx's words, before asking a question. "Then w-what do you d-do when y-you don't know what t-to do?"

They were getting somewhere, at least. Slowly, but getting there. "So... you woke up, got put in Claremont, and now you're trying to be a hero just because that's what they tell you to do? Is that it?" Ghost shook his head, putting his hands at his sides as he did so. "Y'know, they might be training you and everything, but nobody's gonna make you go out and fight bad guys. At least, I hope they won't." He paused for a just a moment. This kid was kinda weird, but culture shock could be a hell of a thing, couldn't it? "What do you want to do, then?"

GHOST Casper accepted Chimera's hand, shaking it briefly. "Ghost. Might've heard of me." Or maybe she hadn't. He wouldn't be surprised by either at this point. "Listen, uh... I'm not exactly what I'd call a good role model or teacher or anything, but I'm usually around the Fens or downtown if you need help or anything. Or try to reach out to Freedom League Aux, alright?"

ic Ghosts and Grimalkins: The Wonders of the English Language
RocketLord replied to RocketLord's topic in The Fens
GM Johnny was not having a good day. A couple of guys had run off with his safe and most of the days earnings. He had stepped in dog shit. His hot dog cart was starting to have issues with the power, and, on top of all that, it was so damn cold out. He left the cart alone for a moment to go clean his shoes, then came back and couldn't believe his eyes. "Oh, hell no..." he muttered to no one in particular, stunned by the sight before him. A Tyrannosaurus Rex was standing by the remains of his cart, it's massive jaws buried inside it, eating whatever it could reach. It looked like something straight out of Jurassic Park, like the older, non-feathered belief of a dinosaur. It's skin was dark grey and leathery. And to top off the ridiculousness, it was wearing a normal, human-sized top hat at the top of it's head, which somehow seemed to stay in place no matter how it moved, and a gold rimmed monocle over his left eye, which looked absolutely tiny compared to the huge eye. The creature pulled up from the cart and growled at Johnny, opening it's massive mouth to speak. "I hunger, require sustenance, must feed! This is not enough, does not meet my needs, leaves me wanting more!" The creature's voice was deep and growling, though with a distinct British accent. Finally regaining his senses, Johnny turned around and started running down the street while screaming. "Be silent, stop screaming, cease your noise! Escape is impossible, you cannot flee, you will not run!" It started running after Johnny, smashing through cars along the way, before coming into view of Ghost and Grimalkin. -

RocketLord replied to RocketLord's topic in The Fens
GHOST "Huh? Yeah, sure. Why not?" Might be nice to have some company on a patrol, for once. "You know Johnny, a few blocks from here? City's best hot dogs. I usually try to swing by a few times, just to make sure he's doing alright." Plus, he was starting to get hungry. Ghost set off from the ground, floating up next to Grimalkin. He didn't make a sound as he moved through the cold air, he just stopped standing on the building. He pointed ahead, towards the direction of Johnny, then paused as he heard a noise coming from the direction. It sounded like something big that was smashing through the area. -
Casper could, of course, just not catch a break. Jessie had agreed that she and Carrie would join him on a trip to look at the lights and decorations, and things were going well, they were all happy and enjoying themselves... and then Carrie had noticed the green Elves that were causing chaos all around them. He didn't want to do this, but... one look at Jessie was enough. She got it. Of course she got it. That didn't mean she looked like she liked it at all. "C'mon, Carrie. Let's get out of here. Dad will keep track of those things." It kind of hurt to let them go, but even with the other heroes Casper was spotting, he couldn't exactly do nothing. He pulled his mask and goggles out from inside his jacket and quickly pulled them on. It looked kinda silly with a big fluffy jacket, a christmas sweater, jeans and his mask and goggles, but eh, no time to change. Ghost moved towards a group of goblins, staring to call out as he floated above them. "Hey, hey, calm down! I've heard it ain't easy being green, but how about we get along anyway?"

GM The cave went on and on. They continued, further and further into the darkness, away from the opening and the makeshift camp. Despite the expected difficulties, everything seemed smooth enough that Danica could progress into the darkness without much issue. The path twisted and turned, as they moved for what seemed like hours, but a look at any clock would show that so much less time passed. And then, up ahead, they saw light. Leaving the cave, the group found themselves in a middle of a city. Not quite modern, yet still somewhat familiar, it looked like Freedom City, and yet, it was different. For one, the city was covered in smog, the sky above them dark and foreboding. The streets were empty, the cars seemed like older models.

GM "Hey!" Sportsman was clearly caught off guard as the group of Multigirls piled on him, quickly weighing him down despite his attempts at stopping her. Almost instantly, the unconscious men and women rose to their feet and threw themselves towards Multigirl, quickly starting to attack them with kicks and punches, trying to pull at the Multigirls to get them off Sportsman, but to little effect. "Yeah, you did!" the man with the hockey mask yelled back at Nightscale, before swinging a baseball bat at him, only to hit again. "Figures some big scary dragon would forget all about burning somebody, huh?" He pulled back through the now panicking crowds again, away from Nightscale and towards the girl with the whip.

I'll put some names on the rest of the villains, even if they haven't introduced themselves yet. The group of people near Multigirl and Sportsman gets up and moves to attack Multigirl! I'll roll it as a single PL6 attack, since it's a mob of people: 12 Not quite enough to hit normally, but you are snaring Sportsman, and I'm not sure if that would affect your defense or not! I'll leave that for @Thevshi to decide! That's a DC21 TOU vs Damage if it hits. Princess Poison remains hidden. Sportsman II attacks Nightscale with a baseball bat: 17 Swing and a miss. He moves back through the crowds again, making sure to put them between himself and Nightscale. Current setup: All doors are blocked by some kind of force field near the doors, they can't be even be touched. All signals are blocked. The entire mall is filled with people. Depending on the situation, they might make combat more difficult! Some kind of sickness, poison or virus are spreading by touch among the people in the mall. A group of people are unconscious. A short distance away from the entrance, around a corner: Nightscale has just been hit by Sportsman II, who are now moving through the crowds. Ms. Scorpion has appeared and attack Paper. Shadowborne is in the same crowd. Multigirl is facing Sportsman near a toy store, having dogpiled him into a snare. The group of sick people near Multigirl has gotten up and started attacking her. Nevermore and the Multigirl duplicate will reach Multigirl this turn. @Spacefurry is up next, after my IC! 27 - Sportsman II - Unharmed 27 - Paper - 3HP - Unharmed 24 - Shadowborne - 3HP - Unharmed 24 - Outrider - 3HP - Unharmed 22 - Sportsman - Bound and Helpless 22 - Nevermore II - 5HP - Unharmed 19 - Ms. Scorpion - Unharmed 18 - Multigirl - 1HP - Bruise (x1) 10 - Nightscale - 4HP - Bruise (x1) 6 - Princess Poison - Unharmed Now, for Sportsman and Princess Poison, imagine them looking like this, just older. And yes, she has not decided to wear pants.

ic Ghosts and Grimalkins: The Wonders of the English Language
RocketLord replied to RocketLord's topic in The Fens
GHOST Casper shrugged. "Haven't really met her, but sure, contacts help. Pretty sure meeting Fleur was half the reason that Comrade Frost let me me on the team in the first place." Grimalkin did have a good point, though. "Sounds like you're busy enough. I guess I just needed a change. I was kinda getting into a rut, so felt nice to be wanted, for a change. So far, it's mostly been a few meetings and then getting to flash my member card to cops and such, so not that big a change." Casper stood up and stretched his back. "But that hurts, y'know. Thinking I wouldn't put in a good word if you wanted in." His tone made it obvious that it was a joke. -
Casper continued walking, moving through the crowds. "Really?" He sounded almost like he didn't even care, before turning to look at her. "C'mon, kid. Be real with me, yeah? You shouldn't be a hero if you can't be honest about why you're gonna do it. Don't worry, I'm not gonna judge, but I'm not gonna help out if you're gonna lie to me."

GM The trek up the hill was uneventful. Seven giant stones, large grey slabs stood on top of the hill, each about three meters tall. Each had a single large rune carved into them. Veronica would be able to read them, as each corresponded to one of the Norid Gods: Odin, Thor, Tyr, Mimir, Freya, Njord and Heimdall. Nothing about them seemed to stand out from each other. The runes were the only difference. Veronica could not sense anything magic about any of them.

Space Ranger III The Danger Cycle wasn't too different from the bikes back home. Easy enough to control and steer, and it didn't take long before J'onn was catching up to Veronica, racing alongside her. The Earth wasn't quite what he expected. Everything else was much more silent, for one. He'd expected heroes flying around everywhere from the stories he'd heard out in space, but this was... kinda quiet? Nobody flying around or anything. He took the wrist watch, attaching it and looking at it. "Got it." J'onn couldn't see much from down here, but those giant stones just screamed for them to investigate, so, why not follow Veronica's lead? Stepping off the bike, he stretched his arms a bit, before motioning with his head towards the stones. "C'mon, then. I'm just here for muscle, I'm pretty sure you're the expert here."
