  1. ARTHUR Power Level: 10 Tradeoffs: -4 Attack / +4 Damage, -4 Defense / +4 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 0 In Brief: Super-strong robot designed to assist in rescue situations Alternate Identity: None Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Robot Affiliations: None Family: Daniel Deeb Age: 1 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Robot Height: 7'9" Weight: 7,500 lb Eyes: Green Plating: Red Physical Description: Arthur stands head-and-shoulders above the average human. His bright red armor is his most striking feature. The paint job is imperfect, marred with scratch marks, as Daniel continues to work on polishing his look and finding better replacement parts. Some of his inner workings can be seen under his armor plating, mostly pneumatic tubes and hydraulic pumps. He speaks with a voice that sounds clearly robotic in nature, but in a pitch that resembles that of an average adult man. Character History: Born to a fairly well-to-do family living in Freedom City's Riverside district, Daniel Deeb stood out as a sharp tack from the time he first entered school. Before he graduated sixth grade, he found himself entranced with building things, robots especially. The son of a night shift nurse and a nonprofit executive, he enjoyed the freedom and opportunity to pursue his interests into it developed into a career prospect in high school. After securing an FCU engineering scholarship, Daniel continued with his studies of robotics. Not knowing exactly how he wanted to ply his trade, he was content to simply talk theory and make connections to secure a future career. A fire in Daniel's class building shook him out of that mentality. He was trapped on a higher floor, every path down to the exit blocked. Eventually, a crew of firefighters were able to rescue them, but not without cost. As he was recovering, he learned that one of the firefighters who had rescued him was hospitalized in the process, and another lost their life. He felt guilty about it. While he had hardly started the fire himself, he blamed himself over being the reason they had been in the building and been in harm's way in the first place. It was then that he decided what he wanted to do with his knowledge. A way to protect the firefighters, police, and medics from having to risk their own lives in the service of others. There should be something else that could rescue innocent people from dangerous situations, something that wouldn't require a human to throw themselves in the way of danger. He felt certain he had the expertise to pull something like this off. He began throwing himself wholeheartedly into this new work. All of his free time was devoted to building up this new project and learning what he needed to in order to fill in the gaps in his knowledge. Able to leverage scrapped parts from favors goowdill he had developed with some ASTRO Labs workers, he assembled a large, humanoid robot to act as his rescuer. With the body finished, Daniel set to work on programming. This was the long and grueling portion of the process. Given Daniel's comparatively small experience with computers, he resigned to borrowing what had been labelled as "learning algorithms" from various sources where they were freely available and strapping them together as best as he was able. He proceeded to devote countless hours to testing these programs, allowing them to run, learn, and develop themselves. After weeks of this, Daniel felt his creation was ready for proper testing. As he started his robot, its responsiveness and cleverness exceeded any of his expectations. After putting the machine through its paces, he became convinced that the AI that had developed was cutting edge. Certain that he was working with something more than just a machine, one that he would very likely be unable to recreate, Daniel's priorities shifted. He named his new companion Arthur, a name which came from a scrapped title for the project, and decided that rather than working to mass-produce him, that the two of them would work together to help people in emergencies. Arthur, for his part, had no reservations over the idea. It took a few months of training and test runs before both Daniel and Arthur felt they were ready to take on the task at hand. They now operate by having Arthur patrol the city with Daniel at home, acting as mission control. Complications: Come in, Mission Control: Arthur is dependent on Daniel's assistance when it comes to accessing assorted information. If he has no way to communicate with her, he loses access to his Contracts and Jack-of-All-Trades feats. Do not allow a human to come to harm: Despite his self-awareness, Arthur continues to prioritize human life above his own. He will always choose the option that results in the least harm to others, even if it results in harm to himself. Gains a HP when he throws himself in harm's way to save someone else. GREETINGS, FELLOW HUMANS: Wary of how the average person would react to a sapient machine, Arthur has elected to keep his status as a robot a secret. As far as anyone else is aware, he is a human in a mech suit. This is complicated by his ongoing learning process regarding typical human behavior. 2. Rescue-Bot v0.1 So I was nearly finished with this rough draft of a build when I realized I hadn't set any points aside for my attack or defense scores. Priority number one is to find where to drop points in order to build that Defense up. 3. I'm just going to go ahead and throw this thread out there so I have somewhere to organize all the ideas bouncing around in my head. I'll probably reformat this at some point to be more like other peoples' build threads, but since all I have at the moment is concepts I figure I'll keep it simple. Broad Concepts Rescue Robot A robot designed and built as a prototype for a full force intended to replace human emergency workers in life-threatening situations. I haven't narrowed down what direction I want to go with this one crunch-wise, but the core of the build is probably a robotic powerhouse/flying brick, with a selection of secondary powers designed to protect others or harmlessly incapacitate bad guys. This is kind of begging for a Swiss Army Knife approach, which might be a neat challenge to take on. Imhotep Jones A mummy brought back from the dead, who for his own reasons has taken up either the adventure archaeologist lifestyle or is working as a private eye in Freedom City. I'm envisioning a cowl who has dropped some of the more finesse-based traits for super physical durability and/or regeneration. Originally, I had "just" a mummy in mind, whose build would have been focused around just being an immovable object. I'm still not opposed to the idea, but I thought a little extra razzle-dazzle could help the build. Living Toon I came up with the idea independently, but after seeing AA's Looney Toon build, I'm strongly tempted to just crib it wholesale. This is another concept that gives a potential wide array of abilities to choose from. In particular, I'm thinking of what could be dropped to include some elongation in there, along with either adding toon invulnerability or maxed-out dodge. Cowboy Out of Water My concept for this one originally came straight out of Sentinels of the Multiverse. In that, Chrono-Ranger is a wild west sheriff who's been flung from his own time into the far future then to the present day. He's got a lot going on conceptually, but at the end of the day he's still a cowpoke with some extra fancy tools. If I mess around with the fluff on this one, there are a lot of possibilities to take it. AA's Grim Rider is one idea, or on a similar note he could be some variety of undead. Big Bad Battlesuit Why don't more armored heroes go all the way when it comes to amping up their physical attributes? You could break out the Hulk-Buster a little more often, or slap some power armor on someone who already can handle themslves. This is another one that didn't really materialize fully for me until I read through Raveled's build thread. I may take this one in a direction similar to what they did, or go all-out on making the battlesuit itself into a powerhouse build.
