  1. Blackstaff “Crap!” Blackstaff cursed as the one she burned, well, burned. At least the swamp water put out any lingering flames in the poor man. The fiery lash vanished as the tentacles disappeared back into the water. “Don’t let your guard down!” She warned even as she moved to side of the ‘bridge’ and attempted to reach for the man she had dropped into the swamp. Her eyes scanned the bubbling water for any signs of the next attack as she tried to fish him back on to the ‘bridge’.
  2. NPCs: 17 So its NPCs 17 Diamondlight 16 Nightscale 6 @Supercape @Nerdzul Since you are bursting into the scene, I’ll let you two react before the NPCs go again.
  3. Paper Paper gave Ms Scorpion a smirk. “Done his part huh? Then I guess it can’t hurt to knock the little pain in the ass’s head in for the trouble he’s caused.” A few sheets form into a kukri. He uses the flat of the blade to lift her chin. “Your plans end, here and now.” With that, he turns and runs towards the fight, leaving Ms Scorpion pinned to the wall. Paper swarms past him creating a ramp that lets Leon jump over the mind controlled hoard. He lands inside the ring of heroes. “It’s Cas. The Worm’s piggybacking off his power. We need to sever the connection.”
  4. Blackstaff “They seem solid enough, by all means punch away.” The wizard shouted as she found herself at the edge of her ‘bridge’. Backed into a metaphorical corner now the wizard called on more magic. “Vitrufeugo.” A lash of magical flames spring forth from Blackstaff’s hand. With a flick, she lashes out at the closet tentacle holding a biker.
  5. Guess Blackstaff is throwing down first. Ranged attack: 14 ooph… -.- Actually, have used a HP here yet. I’ll reroll this time Ranged attack:27
  6. Paper Paper’s expression changed from angry to confused to disbelief then back to anger. “You f*cking insane. Why would you-?” He shook his head. “Forget it, don’t care.” He slaps a peice of paper over her mouth, stifling any ranting she would offer. As he tries to think this through. A glance showed him the others embroiled in their own struggles. Half of them holding off the hoard as the others tried to pin down the Worm. She said she had picked Shields, but why? Strong, yet weak enough… But there were plenty of people she could have… Leon leveled his gaze on Ms Scorpion. “It’s because they’re both controllers. Is he piggybacking off Cas?” He watched her face for any signs he was close. “Is he feeding off the dipsh*t?” Something else caught his attention. Why wasn’t he being attacked? Why wasn’t she being controlled. Sure she was responsible, but how could the Worm have known? “What’s protecting you from them?” Leon yanks the paper off her mouth. The paper snapping stiff and sharp as he glares at her. “Answer me.”
  7. Paper Leon had regarded pair of Berettas, testing them in both hands. Setting one back down, the second disappearing from sight. He moved over to check both an M4 and a P90 . The renovated build was large but a rifle might be a little more than he needed. He contemplated the P90 as he looked over the selection again. Leon picked up a Vector and tested its weight. It felt good and he nodded as he collected his sensor vest as he half listen to their fearless leader. “Killjoy.” He smirked. His weapon chosen, he finished checking his gear. He had kinda hoped for a free for all, but as long as he didn’t wind up with- “Sonova…” Leon mumbled under his breath and sighed. “Hey, is there friendly-fire?” He asked aiming for Charlie’s back and testing his own weapon. Seeing as how teams had only just been decided, Charlie’s sensor echoed Luke’s beep. Leon just gave a smirk. “Oops. Ready.”
  8. Paper A dry voice carried from the door. “So he’s trying to sucker someone else in?” Leon leaned in the open doorframe and took a bite from an apple. He wore his best unimpressed face. Apparently, the ex-thief had slipped into the house before the Ghule and Luke had arrived. After the warehouse, it was obvious to anyone that Leon’s opinion of Charlie was strained, at best. It was clear he was trying his best to stay civil. Watching everyone else accept Charlie’s return with open arms just seemed to aggravate him even more. Leon made a noise of disgust before taking another bite and turning away. “Let’s get this over with, rich boy.”
  9. Blackstaff Blackstaff walked along confidently. She lead the small group as they passed through the swamplands, her force bridge keeping them all afloat easily. “No, it is most assuredly not natural.” She agrees. “Yes, yes. This is magic, thought there is ‘bad magic’, this in itself isn’t ’bad magic’ simply misused.” “Perhaps, in the future, if something ‘unnatural’ happens again you should call someone. I’ll leave you my card we this is over.” It never hurt to attempt to drum up some extra business. Lark would say she wasted the opportunity if she didn’t mention it. But then his office assistant was the business major. The dark waters reflected the light, glimmering here and there as things both tiny and large moved under its surface. Something caught Blackstaff’s attention it was swift and sudden. “Look out!” She cried as the water roiled and exploded, spraying everyone as a mass of tendrils grabbed at them from all sides. Later she would swear it was her smaller frame that allowed her to barely slip past tentacles as they snatched the air where she had been standing only a moment ago. The sound of gunfire echoed across the swamp as Fatboy pump shell after shell into the watery darkness.
  10. Predator The sky was mostly clear and there was only the mildest of chill to the breeze as the steam rose from Jean’s coffee. The sun was slowly creeping down towards the horizon as she sat as comfortably on the bench as she could. She watched a handful of people enjoying the park still, a few couples, old and young, walking hand in hand. Her friend had given her an ultimatum to ‘Get out and enjoy the city’ under threat of being dragged out of her lab by force. Jean smiled to herself. Ashley was a little rough sometimes, but she meant well and sometimes Jean needed to be strong armed into taking breaks. She sipped her coffee and enjoyed the warmth of it as someone jogged by with a service animal. Occasionally she still got the odd look, but now it was more the ‘she’s here?’ and less ‘What is it?’. It’s funny how much a year or so could do to acclimate a people to something new. The corner of her muzzle quirked into the hint of a smile. Back home she had had enjoyed a higher level of anonymity, but honestly she didn’t care about it. Especially now, she had no family or loved ones to protect here. Her smile faltered. She had briefly forgotten the holiday the calendar marked as today. A day she hadn’t celebrated in far longer than a mere year. Jean sipped her coffee again in silence.

  17. Lark Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Unspent Power Points: 0 Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Part-time college student/part-time secretary/part-time werewolf Catchphrase: *** Theme: Bad Moon on the Rise Alternate Identity: Lark Williams (Secret) Birthplace: Emerald City Residence: ECU Dorms, Emerald City Base of Operations: Blackstaff Investigations Occupation: College Student, Business Major Affiliations: Blackstaff Family: Mother and Father Description: Age: 25 (DoB: September 17th, 1998) Apparent Age: mid 20s Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’ 10” / 7’ 3” Weight: 138lb / 242lb Eyes: Hazel Hair: Dirty-Blonde / Light Brown Description: Lark looks average enough in her size and build, but take a closer look as you can notice the defined muscles under the softness of college life. She shares a lot of her looks with her mother including her dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. As a werewolf, Lark is capable of assuming a giant sized wolf or the stereotypical hybrid form. Her fur is a light brown but her inhuman eyes keep their hazel coloring . Razor sharp claws and fangs complete the look. History: While in her freshman year as Business major at Emerald City University, Lark was attacked by a werewolf one night. She was the only survivor of the group she had been with. Weeks in the hospital and questions from police and media left her feeling scared and tired, but it wasn’t until the next full moon approached and the nightmares began that she truly felt the terror. She had transformed into a savage beast like the one that had attacked her for two nights straight before stumbling across Blackstaff’s office. He had already been investigating the attacks that were occurring every full moon, when Lark explained she had survived the previous attack he quickly agreed to help her. Using her connection to her attacker the two tracked down the werewolf responsible for the ‘Full Moon Murders’ as the media had dubbed them. With the werewolf responsible for turning her dead, Lark’s nightmares stopped. But in truth she was still deeply afraid of her condition. Blackstaff attempted to remove the curse, but was unable to. Instead he promised to help her control the transformations and the easy now inside her clawing to escape. So, she began working at his office as his secretary/office assistant. Though she has recently pressed Blackstaff to be more involved with cases. Personality & Motivation: Lark is cheerful and upbeat. She had planned on a simple life running a business of her own. And while her condition complicates things, she still wants to make something of herself. Courageous and strong willed, she has practiced with her werewolf nature to better control it. She isn’t afraid to put herself in danger to help someone else, though she still sometimes overestimates her abilities. Power Descriptions: Lark is a werewolf, complete with all its weaknesses. Silver and wolf’s bane being two biggest. Her curse is magical in nature. Complications: Silver Bullet: The touch of silver can burn causing her to be weary of it. Herbalism: Wolf’s bane can cause a range of reactions depending on how it is handled or processed. Mark of the beast: Other creatures can sometimes sense when a predator is near. This can cause complications ranging from unintentional intimidation to unwanted irrational fear of her depending on the creature and situation. Call of the Wild: Strong magical or mental forces could cause her to change uncontrolled, perhaps even enraging her and driving her to attack indiscriminately. 18. ABRACADABRA'd by Dr Archeville UPDATE for Blackstaff Added Complications Added Skill ranks Added Feats Added Sidekick Removed Devices Added AP to Magic Array ++++++++++++++++++ Blackstaff Power Level: 12/10 (192/192PP) Unspent Power Points: 0PP Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Private/Paranatural Investigator Catchphrase: *** Theme: People are Strange - cover by Echo and the Bunnymen (originally by The Doors) Alternate Identity: Christopher Daye (Public); Christopher Blake Verus Daye (Secret) Birthplace: Just outside Richmond, Virginia Residence: Emerald City, Renovated townhouse/office Base of Operations: Blackstaff Investigation Occupation: P.I. Affiliations: none Family: Father (missing), Mother, 2 Sisters Description: Age: 36 (DoB: May 30, 1984) Apparent Age: 26 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’ 11” Weight: 178 Eyes: Hazel Hair: Brown Description: A night owl, more by necessity than nature, Christopher isn’t nearly as pale as one would expect. Preferring darker than neutral colors he’s usually dressed in slacks and button up shirt; and usually looking like he may have just rolled out of bed in them, he often completes his attire with a trench coat. His hair is cut short causing it to stand up a little spiky. Christopher can be found sporting a trimmed mustache and goatee that never quite connects. But long hours on the job can leave him with stubble and needing a shave and trim. History: Born 2 weeks early, to James and Agatha Daye in their home during a total solar eclipse his parents believe he was born under a sign. His mother was a sorceress and knew right away Christopher possessed magic potential. His father, a scholar of arcane lore but no wizard himself, at first wanted her to wait to teach him but eventually conceded to his wife’s wishes. Christopher showed great promise and his mother was proud. Then, one winter’s morning when he was 13, he had to be pulled from his burning bedroom by his father. Once his mother had magically suppressed what her realized to be hell flames, she discovered half charged runes that she hadn’t taught her son chalked onto his bedroom floor. When confronted young Christopher told his parents a shadowy figure was teaching them to him in his dreams. Fearing the implications his parents quickly set about to flee their current home and hide. During the rush to escape James Daye disappeared. Now panicked even more, Agatha Daye gathered Christopher and his two younger sisters (Bethany and Cassandra) and took them to Freedom in an attempt to hide them. As he continued to grow, his mother became more serious about her teachings and drilled him in the importance of the Light over the Shadow and not to listen to the shadowy figure that came to him in his dreams. Through practice and discipline the figure showed itself less and less. After high school he moved to Emerald City with a friend decided to go for his private investigator license. After a few years apprenticing with an established investigator he left on good terms to open his own office. Now, many years later, Christopher Blake Verus Daye operates under the business name of Blackstaff Investigations. He doesn’t advertise, but somehow people who need him find his card or number, or sometimes even find their way into his office. Often with problems that normal avenues can’t handle. Personality & Motivation: Though he may seem rough and snarky when you first meet him, Christopher is very kind and loyal. But if you make him mad he isn’t one to be underestimated. And one of the easiest ways to get on his bad side, is to blatantly break the rules of magic he tries to live by. He relies on his quick wit and magic to get himself out of the trouble his sharp tongue and protective nature can get him into. There’s been a time or two he’s fallen for a sob story and cursed himself for it. Behind the face of Blackstaff Investigations, Christopher strives to bring light to the darkness that he sees is covering the city. Even if it’s only one case at a time. Power Descriptions: Christopher’s mother taught him a form of ever evolving hermetic magic that she learned and added to from her own parents. He learned how to channel elemental forces, and how to use magic to affect the world around him, locate lost things, and even call on other worldly beings. He was taught to use words to shape the desired effects, and to protect his mind from the raw forces he channeled. Creating a personalized language so as to keep the dangerous forces from burning through him and causing harm. He learned how to use hand motions to further focus his power. His mother taught him how to create rituals to perform a wider repertoire of spells and how to create personal foci to aid him in streamlining his magic use. Knowing he still has more to learn, Christopher relies on several foci he made himself to create some specific effects. Hopefully, with time and practice he’ll learn to create the same effects without the needed aids. Complications: Shadowed Soul: A yet unidentified shadowy person or entity has taken an interest in Christopher since he was a child and on occasion has attempted to ‘nudge’ him into actions. Because of its early interest in him, this entity already has some influence it is able to call upon. Sometimes, when it could be detrimental or prove to be a long-term problem for Christopher, the entity can mentally influence his senses. Its plans are unknown to Christopher, but he doesn’t believe it’s trying to kill him. But he does believe it is trying to turn him towards a path of darkness. (This usually manifests as mental illusions that only Christopher is subject to.) Sweating Magic: Magic is raw, untamed power that more and more intricate technology just can’t stand up to. Sometimes, under stressful conditions Christopher radiates enough magic to disrupt or out right shut down nearby technology. The Rules of Magic: Drilled into his head from the very start by his mother, Christopher follows 7 rules of magic. Unfortunately, he has found himself unable to avoid breaking them himself. These times often leave his confidence shaken and on severe occasions have led to him unable to call on his magic for a time. (Yes, it is possible to trick him into thinking he has broken one of the rules) 1 – Thou Shalt Not Kill (This forbids the killing of non-primal planar, sentient beings with magic) 2 – Thou Shalt Not Transform Others (This forbids the shapeshifting of unwilling non-primal planar, sentient beings with magic) 3 – Thou Shalt Not Invade the Mind of Another (This forbids the metal invasion of unwilling non-primal planar, sentient beings with magic) 4 – Thou Shalt Not Enthrall Another (This forbids the binding or domination of non-primal planar, sentient beings with magic) 5 – Thou Shalt Not Reach Beyond the Borders of Life (This forbids the summoning, binding, and exploitation of the unwilling dead) 6 – Thou Shalt Not Swim Against the Currents of Time (This forbids the use of time travel to alter the timeline) 7 – Thou Shalt Not Open the Outer Gates (This forbids the summoning or contacting of creatures or entities from beyond the Cosmic Coil) Hot and Cold Water: Blackstaff has a curse he has been unable to remove from himself, and a recent magical accident seems to have reactivated it. As of now, a powerful magical surge has a chance to change Blackstaff’s physical form, turning him into a younger female form. This form can easily be mistaken for a younger sister to his original physical form. Changing back on his own requires a long ritual. Cat’s Eye View: During a missing child case Backstaff lost his left eye to a Cait Sidhe (cat-sith), faerie cat. He successfully returned the child and as ‘reward’ a swamp hag replaced his lost eye with that of the Cait Sidhe that took his original one. While the full repercussions of this have yet to be seen, it has granted him access to the ‘Olde Roads’ to travel on. It also means he does now carry the scent of the fae or can be identified as ‘fae-touched’. 19. Okay, so -1HP for Area Stun against the machines.
  20. Ranged blast: 12 HP reroll: 26 Better, that’s a DC 25 toughness save for him.
  21. Blackstaff Magical flames slammed into Blackstaff’s hastily empowered shield. The bracelet on his wrist flared and the shield shattered. The flames washed over him and his outline shimmered, a double image of the flames both striking him and passing partially through him. The smell of scorched clothing and flesh were real but Blackstaff’s image appeared untouched. The wizard cursed and it shimmered again before seeming to solidify. He glanced back to make sure Dreamer was safe. “This is not a fight you will find entertaining.” The air around him crackled. The sound of ice cracking as a halo of icicles solidified before him. It was the quickest and easiest element to call on at the moment. “Arctizare!” He thrusts a hand forward and the hail of ice launched at the fire wielding enemy.
  22. Predator As she approached the eviscerated truck and the clone producing clown. Information appeared on her screens. The was a signal coming from somewhere. It took a moment to confirm changes in the signal were indeed coordinating with actions of the machines. Cynthia had already began attempting to track it back to its source, but Predator over-rid the action. Instead, she channeled energy to her knuckle dusters again. Disengaging several safety protocols the charges grew. The blades withdrew and the plates once again snapped into place. Even as she walked the eyes her screens. Numbers crept up and up until several red indicators appeared. It was what she had been waiting for, and in one smooth motion she brought her gauntlets up and slammed the two plates together. The energy fields collided and collapsed in on each other. A powerful EMP pulse washed out over the truck, attacking vehicles, a perhaps a few bystander cars that had not been able to avoid getting caught in the chaos. A nearby power line transformer sparked and several onlookers with phones out were probably going to have to get new phones. She’d hear about it back at the tower, but the League would most likely replace them if they applied to compensation.
  23. I like the HP to create a Area effect EMP not sure what to roll though.
  24. Blackstaff “There are still many mysteries in the world, but this-“ Blackstaff said as they looked out across the swamp. “This is squarely within the domain of magic.” She turned her attention in the direction of the cove at Fatboy pointed it out. She had managed to time their arrival close enough to the bikers’, though none of them were armed like the locals. To be honest, she wasn’t sure would trust Professor Armitage with any kind of firearm to begin with. Mr Dickens, maybe. The golden boy? He hardly seemed to need one. Though Blackstaff still wasn’t exactly sure what the kid could do. “Most likely also a byproduct of the cursed items.” She glanced at Golden Star. “With luck we can fix this and this heat in one fell swoop. Most things will bend to magic, if it’s strong enough. The problem is the tension it produces, like a spring. Things wants to return to their natural states, so you have to beware not to be caught up in it if the magic snaps and lashes out.” “On foot from here it would seem. I hope you aren’t too attached to those pants professor. I don’t think any amount of dry cleaning with save them after this.” She chuckled and looked to Fatboy. “I don’t suppose you know the easiest path out to the cove?” She asked, the larger man shaking his head. Blackstaff turned her attention back to the swamp again and sighed. “I don’t want to chance teleporting. Who knows what interface we’d hit.” She looked thought with a curled finger on her chin. “So be it.” She declared and stepped forward to the edge of the muddy waters. Holding out one arm she shook her wrist, exposing the bracket of linked shield. She bag an to murmur softly and the bracket glowed pale blue. With her other hand she looked to press and smooth the air around her. After minute she fell silent but the bracelet continued to glow. Blackstaff looked back over her shoulder and smirked. “Single-file kids.” With that, she stepped forward and the water compressed under her foot. A few more steps and she stopped to look back. Under her feet, the in-fact wasn’t actually touching her. A slightly curved plane of force created a kind of floating bridge. The wizard stood smugly waiting, ever so slightly bobbing as the water lifted and sunk the ‘bridge’.
