Jean was still brushing up on the heroes of this world. She wasn’t sure if this world’s Raven was anything like the one from her own. She decided to just nod at Ashley’s mention of a possible alternate version of herself. After all, there were alternates of her own she would rather not dwell on. Her attention shifted to the pile of papers. Reaching out, she brushed several papers aside and slid a familiar envelope from the pile. “As a matter of fact, I have.” She said, tapping it with the tip of one slender finger. “I have been contemplating it’s possible implications, as well as possible ramifications of either accepting or declining it.” Jean tilted her head to regard Ashley again and raised an eyebrow. “If a member of the Secret Service has come to me in regards to it, should I assume there is some concerns surrounding it?” She asked inquisitively.

Predator When they reach the double doors Predator motioned for Rocket to set her down. She didn’t say anything as she stepped towards the broken doors, reaching out she pulled on one of them further aside. It creaked on its remaining hinge. “It seems to be healing from its wounds if the diminishing trail is any indication.” Internally, Predator called up her thermal vision, then dismissed it. The electronics within were obscuring any other heat signatures. Instead she took a moment to pull up the several images of the creature her cameras had captured. “I don’t think it has traditional sight. I don’t see any eyes on it in the playback stills.” She said, wishing off-handed she could share the images. The helmeted head looks around for a moment before pointing to a set of switches beside the remains of the other door. ”Some light should only help us.”

GM Predator was heavy, but not as heavy as Rocket may have thought. With Mirror Knight’s direction they follow the trail of UV reactive ichor in a flash. As Rocket carried the two down the winding hall they could tell the trail was thinning out, but they were able to tracked it to a set of broken double doors. A sign to one side identified it as the ‘Server Room’. The faint light from the hall did little to reveal the large room littered with a multitude of tiny, blinking lights. But somewhere within, the trio could hear the sounds of equipment and electronics being wrecked and destroyed. A few stray drops of the ichor still shows up under Mirror Knight’s light just beyond the room’s threshold before the trail disappeared completely.

“Sorry.” Jean apologized. “I’m afraid I don’t have sweet tea.” “It’s not the first time I’ve visited another world. As I told some of you’re colleagues, I passed through a number of worlds before landing here.” She moved to the dining table. As she took a seat she motioned towards the chair catty corner to her. “No need for formalities, unless you prefer to stand.” Jean offered before picking up her previous topic. “Even back home I ventured into other worlds several times. Once, during one excursion to a highly magical world, I found myself temporarily merged with my armor. Now that was rough.” She gave Ashley a smile hoping her little anecdote would put the agent more at ease. “To be honest the differences between my world and this one are simultaneously minor and major. Half the people I knew, never existed here, but my social security number matched a girl with my name who died several years ago.” Jean stopped herself. “I apologize, I’m being rude. You’re not here to listen to my problems and I should not have spoken like that.” He manages a friendly smile again. “What can I help you with?”

Standing in secondhand shorts and camisole Jean regarded the agent at her door with curiosity. She hadn’t arrived with luggage, but the people here at the tower had been kind enough to scrounge up some extra clothes to hold her over. She really needed to go get her own clothes now that she had received her stipend from the government along with a new ID. Her head tilted slightly as she eyed the badge and her tail slowly swayed behind her. She had seen a lot of badges back in her world and the differences were minor as far as she could tell. Since she had taken up residence a seemingly endless parade of agents and government reps has come and gone, asking questions that more often then not repeated themselves. But this was the first time one arrived alone. One ear twitched as her inhuman eyes shifted from the badge to the woman. She didn’t bother to hide it as she looked the agent over like she was cataloging her appearance, this sometimes unsettled previous visitors. Short hair, sunglasses inside, minimal makeup, her build under the suit. All trademarks of a field agent she thought. “I assume if you’ve made it this far into the facility, your credentials are either valid or an exceptional forgery. Either way, you’ve made an effort to find me so the least I can do is hear you out.” She said matter-of-factly but gave Agent Tran a nod and a friendly smile, though this too some people found odd on her muzzle. She stepped aside and motioned her in. The room was sparse to say the least. Basic furnishings but no real decor. Jean had only been in the tower a short time and still hadn’t quite started to ‘settled in’. A loaner laptop and papers littering the small dinner table were the most obvious indication that someone was using the room. “Can I offer you a drink? Coffee? Tea?Water?” She asked then thought for a moment. “There are some soft drinks in the cabinet. I don’t drink them myself, but they were already in the fridge so I moved them.”

GM Snap-Maw The shark-man sneers at Artificer, before suddenly loosing a cry of rage. Lunging forward his massive jaws part, revealing too many sharp teeth to count. The powerful jaws meet the coral cage the Atlantean created. The makeshift cage crumbles under the force, leaving a massive hole that Snap-Maw manages to slip out through. The sneer turns into a smirk as he levels his gaze on his already injured target. He makes a show of sniffing in Artificer’s direction then licks his lips. “Smells like fresh blood.” He says mockingly as he flash’s a toothy grin. Fly-Guy The bug-man seems to shake himself out of his hesitation. Looking around he seems their leader being attacked be two of these meddling kids, and their dog too. “I got your back boss.” He called out, even though there was no way the other man could hear him. Spines along his arm stiffen and fan out. He brings his arm back and makes a sudden swiping motion. Several needle sharp projectiles soar through the air, aimed at Neko’s back. The spines miss their mark though and bury their tips into the door frame, mere inches from the catgirl. TKO Glowing eyes turn on Paper as the man recovers from the teen’s attack. It hadn’t been enough to daze the villain and he was quick to retaliate. “Why you little shit. You don’t know who you’re dealing with.” Thrusting his hand out at Paper, unseen force slams into the teen, but the youth’s power protected him from the brunt of the attack leaving the hero unfazed. TKO sneers at him. Bear-Knuckle The large, red-headed leader of the group shook his head. He bared his teeth in a sneer, even as Owain’s last bite already began closing. With a howl of rage he whirled on the two girls, ignoring the wolf. “I am going to crush you.” He snarled, flexing his fingers eagerly with murder in his eyes.

Paper Leon lunges forward, his hand sweeping in an arch before him. A handful of index card sized pieces of paper flew straight, the paper metal stiff and sharp. Unfortunately, Paper’s aim was a bit wide and they missed their intended target. The paper struck the wall behind the card collector looking villain and sunk into the plaster. Paper grumbled under his breath as he readied to defend himself. Staff held out before him one handed as his other hand reached for more paper from his jacket.

Paper Shield by his paper barrier the couple managed to their feet and joined the other fleeing guests, too scared to properly thank the young hero. Paper didn’t hold it against them, it wasn’t the best circumstances for heroic introductions and thanks. With them safe and escaping he looked around again to see how things were unfolding. He saw Artificer dealing with the shark-man. The bug-guy seems unsure what to do and he could see Owain, Neko, and Star holding down the dude with bear-hands. That just left the creep by the doors bark orders. Paper targeted TKO and the paper barrier collapsed in a swirl of paper the in turn rocketed towards the glowing-eyed villain. The paper impacting hard and driving the man back a step in surprise. “Hey jackass! How about picking on someone smaller then you?” He taunted with a signature smirk of his.

GM Teens From under the desk two teens scramble out. A boy with long brown hair and blue eyes. A long coat covers a ‘Bring Me the Horizon’ band tee and and a large belt with several pouches is looped through a jeans. The other, girl with short red hair and green eyes. A short fishnet covers the upper half of a white long sleeve tee and jean shorts torn at the mid thigh. Both sport high top sneakers. “Grab it!” The girl yells as she slaps a hand on the wall behind the desk. The boy lunges at the desk and yanks an unnoticed USB from one of the computer’s ports and ducks back beside the girl. An intricate circle, filled with strange symbols appears on the wall under the girls hand and spreads out some. Then a surge of power turns the wall to sand. Everything on both sides of the wall crash’s to the floor as the sand collapses, leaving an open way to the adjoining office. Goons The remaining goons flee the room amongst the fleeing guests.

Blackstaff Christopher had given Miss Hildegard a friendly smile and thanked her before the door closed. He smile vanished as he turned his attention to the crime scene again. He noted the green tendrils that seemed to cling to himself and the others with some curiosity, but it didn’t seem harmful yet. He disregarded the fading threads of other old magic around the room and approached the circle. He studied the knife for a moment then turned his attention to the circle itself. As he read the inscription he slowly nodded to himself. Pulling a piece of chalk from his pocket he moved slowly around the circle tracing a second circle around the first. At set intervals he marked down runes to create the base for a containment spell if he needed it. As far as he could recall the Light had gone silent after several deaths overseas last year. Some cases baring similar M.O.’s had cropped up, but many thought them mere copycat crimes. Christopher wasn’t sure himself but if they were as zealous as the rumors hinted at he hoped it was just copycats. As he stood, he surveyed the room again and went over what the trio had told him. His initial impression was another copycat. Perhaps one of the surviving rivals attempting to dissuade others. The circle possibly triggered on Mr. Hitspike’s death as part of a standing deal with a demon. If it was legitimate, it would account for the language of the circle and the only lingering smell of brimstone. Hellfire was troublesome to control if not born to it, he knew this first hand. As he thought on it, if Mr. Hitspike had in fact been a part of the Light it didn’t seem within their motives to target only rivals. Maybe someone within the ‘cult’ took exception to his choice of targets. Seeing it as using them for personal gain. Of course this was all theory and speculation at this point. He had no eye witnesses on hand, a hasty circle of seeming demonic origin, a possible murder cult, and a dagger still holding a strong magical aura. Crouching again, he pulled out a handkerchief and carefully reached out to the knife. Watching it with his awareness he first tentatively tapped the hilt with the cloth, then taking a deep breath he carefully gripped the hilt and withdraw the blade. Holding it in the stained white fabric he took a closer look at it. If he wanted to know exactly what enchantment the weapon held he’d have to take it back to his workshop for a precise divination. But on the fly here he’d have to accept less accuracy and details. His other hand found the chalk in his pocket again and he weighted the idea of trying a quick spell.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I’m working on a post and I was thinking of having him attempt a small ritual. I was reading up on it, and for a HP he can try to ‘jury-rig’ it. Skipping the research part and caste gong it in a number of round equal to the power cost. I wasn’t planning anything big or grand, I was thinking just a simple divination type thing to give him at least a rough idea of what kind of magic was on the knife? I’m just having trouble figuring the power cost. I assumed it would be a Super-sense, just not sure how many ranks would be needed? There’s a ‘aura reading’ example, but it seems to focus on giving physical details. Any ideas? Maybe something that grants him ‘Analytical’ for his Magic Awareness?

Blackstaff Christopher eyed the three as they answered differently, albeit in unison. “Naturally.” He told the man. “Client confidentiality is a given in my line of work.” He listened as Harold Jr filled him in on their father’s decent into the occult. The mention of a cult peaked his curiosity. Cults should never be taken lightly, especially if what his client was insinuating was true. He thought the name sounded familiar as he nodded solemnly, noting the names of the remaining rivals on his notepad. He’d have to look deeper into ‘the Light’ when he had a chance. Taking a moment he closes his eyes, exhales silently and opens his eyes again to regard each of them. In turn he uses the moment to open his awareness to the magic around him. He looks at each of the siblings in turn in search of any magic on, or in, them. “Are any of you members of ‘the Light’?” He asked flatly, it wouldn’t effect the case much he thought, but it might be good to know. He only nods in response to their answers, writing in his notes. “Well, I think I should check the scene. You may go about your business, I’d like to look around on my own. If I have any questions I’m sure I can find one of you.” He gives the trio a practiced, professional smile.

*facepalm* I can’t believe I never rolled for that. I remember reading it and think I needed to roll, then promptly forgot to. Both are a +10, so given what he’s looking at I say Knowledge, Arcane Lore: 25 The other thing I came here for, he has Well-Informed so can I make a check to see if he’s heard anything about this ‘the Light’ cult?

Chimera Chimera grimaced, she hadn’t considered the two could have been working together prior to their fight. She certainly didn’t like the idea that the two had just been ‘goofin off’, like Impact had suggested. She chuckled as Impact tried to question the unconscious Wordsmith. “Agreed, I don’t think I want to hear anything out of his mouth. We’d be better off questioning the other one.” She glanced over at Grimalkin and gestured at Wordsmith. “Speaking of which, how long will the gag last? I saw you conjure it from thin air.” She asked out of curiosity. Chimera looked back at Ghost, looking thoughtful for a moment. “I had to chase them to catch up. I think they came from that direction.” She offered pointing back the way she’d came. At Grim’s mention of calling the cops Chimera gives her own head a little knock. “Of course, I should have thought of that.” She chided herself, then watched as the other woman reached through some kind of portal and withdrew a phone. She found herself chuckling again as she listened to the conversation. Though when Grim began taking pictures of the damage Chimera guiltily glanced back at the poor car. “I should probably leave a note…” She trailed off before Grim suggested a selfie. Should they? Was that something heroes normally did? Chimera glanced up at Ghost, trying to gauge his reaction to the suggestion.

Paper Leon watched from the control room as the the new kids began to react to the drones. He remembered when he and the others had been caught up in this themselves. He watched as James took to the air, firing wildly. The boy was quick to react, that was good. And Wilona was unsurprisingly right behind him. James’ aim wasn’t the best, but her outburst was a more then a little scary. Leon glanced over at Luke. “The fire suppression systems are reading operational, right?” He asked looking back at the fight as it continued to unfold. Looking away for that moment he lost sight of Naomi. She had vanished from sight, but the school’s computer system had a few tricks of its own. It took a few filters but a silhouette finally outlined as an unseen figure fled the approaching drones. “Where is she going?” He wondered, not knowing the events that had brought the two girls together nor the trauma it had imposed.

Chimera Chimera resisted a tiny jump when Ghost suddenly pointed at her. But something about his tone triggered her inner college student, and she responded as if being quizzed by one of her professors. “Um, it could be a several possibilities. Territorial dispute, differing ideologies, or they could have been after the same thing.” She thought for moment. “Or one could already have something the other wants.” She looked back up at Ghost hoping she had answered correctly. She really wanted to make a better impression then the first time she met the older hero.

Chimera Chimera tried to hide her slight jump as Cheat Code pops up out of the ground. She relaxes when Ghost follows him and joins them. She smirks behind her mask at his indignity as he introduces himself. “To be fair, he does look a little young to know who’s who.” He said trying to defender the younger hero, glancing over at Impact. She turns and looks across to Impact and Grimalkin. “I’m Chimera.” She introduces herself. “And, ah, thanks for the help.” She added as she rubbed the back of her head in embarrassment. Chimera looks back at Ghost shaking her head. “Sorry, they were already fighting when I finally caught up to them. Neither was very talkative.” She paused and shot Wordsmith’s unconscious body a glare. “I mean, neither wanted to explain themselves.” She corrected herself.
