  1. Lawrence gave Lexa a skeptical look. "I am sure that is not really the case," he said with a sight accent before he gave a slightly mischievous grin, "but sounds like fun anyway." Megan watched the interaction with a slight smile and then turned to Zhu as the teen spoke up. "I am sure you both will have things well in hand. Lawrence should not be much trouble." She glanced at the clock on the wall. "Looks like we are going to need to be going, where is Robert?" "Right here dear." Came a distinctively British accent from the doorway as Robert Harrow walked into the kitchen. Robert was tall and handsome, the resemblance to Lawrence impossible to miss. He was a few years older than Megan and was dressed in a black tuxedo that was well tailored to his lean frame. He was carrying a jewelry case in one hand. "Good evening ladies." He said, addressing Lexa and Zhu with a charming smile. "You forgot these dear." He then said to Megan, holding up the jewelry case. "Ah, right." Megan replied with a small smile as she turned around and lifted her hair so Robert could help her put on the string of pearls in the case. "Lawrence can show you where the television is and help get you otherwise oriented around the house. We should be home shortly before midnight." Lowering her hair back down once the necklace was on, Megan went over and gave Lawrence a kiss on the forehead, which naturally seemed to embarrass him. "I know I do not need to say it, but I will anyway, be good and listen to Lexa and Zhu." Robert gave his son a light cuff on the shoulder and a warm smile before nodding to Lexa and Zhu as he and Megan then made their way out of the kitchen and down the main hallway towards the front door.
  2. Giang followed after Zhu with a small smile on her face. "I would have been happy to treat, but if you insist." She replied as they pair stepped out into the cold winter air. Again she did not seem bothered by it despite her windbreaker being for warmer climates. "I am not sure I am the best choice for offering any such advice." Giang replied with a small grin. "Very early on at my time at Claremont, I became attracted to a boy a year ahead of me. Unfortunately, he was not very interested in pursuing romantic relationships and was very much something of a monk, though a warrior monk to be sure. We have remained good friends, but I rarely see him, his work often keeping him out of the country on missions." "I suppose the one bit of advice I might be able to offer is do not make major changes to who you are just for the benefit of someone else. It may take time, but you will find others who value you for who you are."
  3. Megan had given Zhu a slightly sympathetic look before glancing back to Lexa and giving the other girl a small smile. "Well, I am sure you will be able to make it up to them." She replied, unfazed as she started to lead the two teenagers deeper into the house. As they went, they passed a number of rooms off the main hallway, a sitting room, a large, formal dining room. "Lawrence is likely downstairs, or up in his room." Megan replied to Lexa's question. "We can call him to have him meet us." She then added before turning to Zhu’s questions. "Please, call me Megan." She began. "As for the particulars, Lawrence has already finished his homework so no need to worry about any of that. Dinner can be whenever you two are ready, I ordered pizza from a great gourmet place in Kingston." She added as she led the pair into a large kitchen. The kitchen was open and spacious, with dark granite countertops, including on a large island toward the middle of the kitchen. It led to a good sized breakfast nook with a table and six chairs. The nook had large windows that looked out to the dark grounds behind the home. Sitting out on the island in the middle of the kitchen were several large pizza boxes. "I was not sure what sort of pizza you might like, so I order a few different kinds." "Lawrence can show you were drinks and snacks are. Normally we only allow a few snacks round eight or so, he can watch two hours of TV or playing video games and he is at least in bed reading by nine. But, my parents tend to allow him to get away with considerably more, so if you can just see that he is in bed by ten-thirty, that should be fine." Megan said with a smile as she walked over to an intercom on the wall. "Lawrence, the young ladies who will be watching you are here, please meet us in the kitchen." She said after pushing a few buttons. She then pushed another one and spoke again. "Robert, the sitters are here and the town car is waiting, we should be going dear." Turning off the intercom again she gave the two teenagers a small smile. "I always seem to be waiting for him." "So, the note pad there by the pizza boxes has our contact numbers." Megan then added, pointing over at the kitchen island. "It also has information on our itinerary." "Hello." Came a voice from behind Lexa and Zhu, and as the two teenagers turned around they saw a ten year old boy standing at the doorway to the main hallway. He was about three or so inches shorter than Zhu and was dressed in blue jeans and a collared short-sleeved shirt. He had short blonde hair, fine features and bright blue eyes that where the very image of his mothers, and seemed filled with a deep curiosity and inquisitiveness. "Lawrence, this is Zhu and Lexa." Megan said in introduction.
  4. "We are often creatures of habit." Giang replied with a small smile as Zhu mentioned her father practicing Tai Chi every morning. "I still get up early each morning to meditate and practice forms. It is not always ease, but I still do so." The young Asian woman then gave a small nod. "Yes, we are done with training for today. Although, I do still have some time if you would like to get a coffee and talk more. It can be a drastic change, both in moving to the States and being at a school such as this. I would be more than happy to offer what advice I might be able to give."
  5. It was a short walk up a few flights of stairs to the front doors, but almost no sooner had the girls rang the doorbell than the door was opened. Standing there to greet them was an attractive young woman who appeared to be in her mid-twenties. She had long blonde hair and blue eyes that seemed almost bursting with energy. She was dressed in a long black evening gown that clung tightly to her lean figure. A wide, warm smile came to her face as she saw the two teenagers. "Hello! You two must be Zhu and Alex. Please do come in." The woman said warmly as she let the two into the entryway. The inside of the home was no less grand that the outside, with old wood paneling and rich carpets decorating the foyer and a long entry hall, which included a grand staircase that led to the upper floors. "I am Megan, and I am very pleased to meet both of you. Robert and I are so very grateful you were able to come on such short notice. Normally my parents would watch Lawrence when we go out, but they are out of the country right now. I hope you did not have to cancel any Valentines' Day plans of your own?"
  6. "Hmm…" Giang said as she thought a moment. "I believe," she began as she reached up with one hand to lightly tap Zhu's forehead, "that the main problem is here. Your overthinking is interfering with you just doing what needs to be done." "I think I need to give you some homework to work on." Giang then said. "I would like you to spend some time each day finding some time and a quiet place to meditate, hopeful for at least half an hour. This can be done just in a sitting pose, so no need to worry about balancing. What I would like you to try to focus on is what the Soto school of Zen calls 'Observing the Mind.' You should just strive to be aware of your stream of thoughts while meditating, but allow them to arise and pass away without interference or focusing on any. Do you think you can do that?"
  7. GM While the Kurabanda seemed a bit hesitant, they allowed Starshot over to the wounded. He quickly was able to determine that one of them was, unfortunately, already dead and beyond any help. The other was seriously wounded, but Starshot was able to stabilize the Kurabanda and get it out of any immediate danger. The last of the Kurabanda that had been injured only had a minor wound, which Starshot patched up. While Starshot was treating the Kurabanda, Laark dragged all the downed pirates together and began collecting their weapons and other gear. Soon there was a small pile of energy weapons piled near Starshot, along with a bag filled with several types of grenades. There were also several packs, filled with a variety of gear, including extra energy clips, food and water. Soreen meanwhile was still over where Phalen was still curled up on the ground.

  9. GM The Kurabanda stared at Starshot and the others for a few moments in stony silence, looking at them and their equipment. Two were partially focused on treating one of their brethren, who appeared badly injured. Each wore a variety of necklaces and jewelry made from wood, feathers and other natural materials. Finally one of the Kurabanda moved forward, a spear in hand, but the weapon was lowered. "Ermorada." He stated, his free hand gesturing at his' chest. "You from far sky? Like these?" He asked in crude Gal Standard, gesturing at some of the fallen pirates with is last question.

  11. GM Officer Dressa had just been trying to keep Hyperslice from bothering another of the patrons, pulling on the larger Praetorian's arm in the hopes of guiding Hyperslice away from the other Signian the Hassaan had focused on. "Please Praetorian." Dressa pleaded. "Let these people enjoy their drinks in peace." When Barrier asked her question, the Signian law enforcement officer looked up at the towering Praetorian. "Well, I am not a scientist, so I am not familiar with all the particulars, but nanotech is central to many of our leading companies efforts to help restore the worlds cyberformed by the Communion."
  12. GM North Bay, Freedom City, New Jersey Wednesday February 14, 2018 5:06 PM The streets of North Bay were generally quiet and not too congested with traffic, with the exception of the morning and evening rush hours. Of course, Lexa Veen and Zhu "Alexa" Xieng were just in the beginning of the evening rush hour, so there was considerably more traffic than normal as they rode in the back of a luxury town car. The town car had been sent to pick the pair up at Claremont Academy to bring them to the Harrows' home in North Bay. Headmistress Summers had recruited the two teenagers to help a family friends of hers, the Harrows, with some babysitting tonight. The slow moving traffic afforded the pair opportunity to take in some of the large homes and mansions that filled this part of Freedom City. Or to watch the many luxury or high end sports cars that they passed in the traffic. Eventually the town car had made it through the worst of the congestion, as it entered the more northern section of the North End, where the homes were much more spread out, possessing larger grounds and gardens around them. After turning off one of the main roads onto a smaller road, the town car finally reached the pair’s destination. The Harrows' home was a large mansion set well off from the road, a long driveway leading up to the front. Hedges ran alongside the road, although not so tall that they could not see more of the grounds beyond. There was a large, well groomed garden to the right of the driveway, and open grounds to the left that appeared to stretch back around the mansion for who knew how far. The home itself was of a classical style, that would like right at home on some English estate. The town car pulled up in front of the mansion, the driver getting out to open the door for the two teenagers.
  13. GM Starshot's cybernetic fist struck true and the blow caused the pirate leader's head to twist sideways as he was knocked off his feet and a short distance away to land in a heap on the ground. The forest had suddenly gone quiet, as the fighting came to an abrupt end. Laark remained near the last pirate he had downed, his club still in both hands but not raised as he scanned the area to be sure all the pirates were down before looking up at the Kurabanda to be sure they did not start attacking. Soreen remained where she was, but lowered her blaster pistol while keeping one eye on the huddled form of Phalen. The Kurabanda looked out at Starshot and his crew with slight uncertainty for a few moments, before they quickly climbed out of the tree they were in and down to the ground where two of their number had fallen after being shot. Now that he was able to watch them out from behind cover, Starshot noted that their monkey like appearance included a prehensile tail. He also noted that they were not completely covered in fur. Their torso was, but their heads, hands, feet and tail were all bare, while the arms and legs appeared to be covered in fine hair that looked like soft down.

  17. Okay, so starting a new thread for this. We have pretty much set the space ships previously, though I have made some slight updates to them now (making them even more expensive!). I also have added a draft for the headquarters on CoVic Station. The main issue is that the cost of all these is 305 ep! Currently, we have the following donations: Traveller (Tiff) +10 ep Moon-Moth (Ex) +10 ep Paradigm (me) +195 ep Pugio (Blarghy) +35 ep Hazmat (Azuth) +75 ep Total: 325 ep So, we are 90 ep short! I can use some more rewards to cover this, but would be nice to get more members to pitch in a few points to the joint vehicles and base. So, once Hazmat is approved we will have more than enough to cover the two ship and the HQ (I added a couple extra things on the ships so the price inched up to 308 ep). Still good to have some extra in case we think of something we want to add. And if we get enough points from other people and pick up more members, it may be necessary to get a third spaceship.
  18. Current Members: Ms. Britannia (formerly Young Britannia) Synapse Foreshadow II Dreadnaught Team History: In the late twentieth century, the Ministry of Powers oversaw the formation of the United Kingdom's major superteam, Taskforce UK, which was known to the public as The Vanguard. Formed slowly between the years of 1970 and 1980, it consisted of several "Powers" from the United Kingdom. During its existence, the team consisted of four primary members: Champion: A paragon hero who was the "face" of the team, making most of the public speeches and otherwise dealing with the media. Headcase: The "brains" of the team, an individual with a frail body, but possessing superhuman intellect and psychic powers. Worked closely with the Ministry of Powers and was integral to its "Powers Project," in particular the Psi Initiative. Lucy Diamond: The "wild card" of the team, a woman with a un-aging appearance who was able to transform her body into a glass like structure that appeared to be cut diamond, gaining increased strength and resilience. Y Dderwen: A squat immortal man with remarkable strength and agility and control over nature. As the new millennium began, the team’s activities began to lessen, as members started focusing on their own interests. Then, in the Summer of 2013, all four members of the team disappeared completely and their headquarters, The Haven, was sealed, locking out the Ministry of Powers from accessing it. The New Team: The Ministry of Powers could not take the disappearance of four high profile heroes lightly and began considering options for assembling a new team to investigate what had happened to the original members. Ministry agents approached Dawn ("Dee") Farrington [Synapse], the daughter of the influential Lord Farrington and the most successful subject of Headcase's Psi Initiative. Although reluctant to have any involvement with the Ministry, Synapse agreed to join the team on the condition she would be given access to Headcase's notes on the Psi Initiative so that she might find something to help her twin sister Susan, who had become mentally unstable as a result of going through the process as well. Meanwhile, Young Britannia's parents contacted her about the disappearance of Lucy Diamond, a family friend, and she approached the Ministry of Powers about the situation and was also offered a place on the new team. While both Synapse and Young Britannia were at the ministry’s London headquarters, American scientist and superheroine, Dr. Jasmine Benoit, [Catalyst] was visiting one of her former professors, a Professor Thomas Blackpool, who worked for the Ministry of Powers. A former ministry scientist, James Duke attempted to kidnap Blackpool, but was stopped by Catalyst. Catalyst joined Young Britannia and Synapse in investigating what had happened to the original team and whether the attack on Professor Blackwell was connected. The three went to recruit a recently active costumed vigilante that had begun prowling the streets of London, the Osprey (Alden Richards). Unbeknownst to them, Osprey possessed abilities that originated from the Osprey Formula, one of the initiatives within the Powers Project and overseen by Professor Blackpool. Ultimately the group learned that Headcase had been secretly manipulating events, trying to control the other members of the team and exert his influence over other parts of the government. Champion had sealed off the Haven in response and then disappeared. Lucy Diamond meanwhile had completely lost touch with reality and had gone in to seclusion, watched by Y Dderwen, who had decided to retreat from the modern world. Osprey was killed fighting the Tylluan, a monstrous creature that had been one of the early Osprey Formula test subjects. Catalyst meanwhile returned to the United States. Threads: Beating Crime Soundly Hospital Visit Searching for Vanguard Vanguard: the Osprey Formula Vanguard: Diamond Life New Members and the Incursion: Vanguard soon added two new members: Foreshadow II and Ulysses. Synapse encountered Ulysses while on an official mission for the Ministry, the two being transport to Earth Victoriana. Upon their return, Ulysses was offered a place on Vanguard. Shortly after that, Synapse encountered Foreshadow II while they both had been attending the Winter Olympics in Sochi and uncovered a plot involving Russian athletes using enhancement drugs based on the old Soviet Darwin X program. The two began working together to try to track down more information on the Darwin X program and Doctor Zero, and Foreshadow also joined the team. Not long after, Communion forces attacked Earth. The Vanguard were summoned to defend UNISON headquarters in Geneva along with several other heroes. Their mission was to defend the UNIStorm, UNISON's heavy space fighters, until the fighters could be fully prepped and launched as part of a counter attack. With the assistance of a group of supervillains, the heroes managed to hold off the Communion and the UNIStorm was able to launch and take part in Earth’s counterattack against the Communion forces. As short while later, Vanguard was asked by UNISON to help track down four superagents that had gone rouge a few years earlier. This took the team to Dubai, where, with the assistance of Amir al-Misri (the superhero Asad), they were caught in the middle of a conflict between the rogue superagents and superpowered mercenaries from the Arsenal. Threads: Earth Victoriana: On Track Winter Wonderland Egyptian Escapade Incursion: Spirt of the Blitz Trade Show More Changes: Ulysses soon chose to leave the team and he was eventually replaced by Dreadnaught.
  19. Okay, clearly hits. The pirate leader will go down!
  20. GM While Starshot struggled with the pirate leader, the four pirates up in the trees continued firing at the Kurabanda. However, this time the natives were able to make better use of cover, and the blaster shots went wide or blew out bits of the tree trunk. Just outside of the gas from Starshot's grenade, the other pirate that had escaped the gas had reoriented himself and spotted Laark down two of his comrades. Yelling out the alien rushed across the forest floor, firing his blaster at Laark’s large form as he went. However, the pirate's aim was off and the blast went well overhead. From near were Starshot had started his initial charge into the combat, a blaster shot rang out as Soreen fired at one of the pirate’s in a tree, hitting the humanoid in the back. The pirate let out a cry of pain and dropped off the branches down to the ground below. The pirate leader snarled at Starshot as the space hunter tried to punch him. "Don't know how you got here, but we will gut you just like we will these savages!" He then lunged at Starshot with his knife, but the cyborg managed to dodge to one side. Meanwhile, the Kurabanda took advantage of the sudden elimination of one of the pirates that had been shooting at them, rising up from their cover to lose another volley of arrows. With the pirates slightly caught off guard by the sudden attack from behind, each of them was hit by an arrow, and briefly cried out in pain before falling as well. Laark meanwhile charged the pirate that had shot at him, swinging his club as he went. The large weapon connected with the pirate’s upper chest, hitting with such force that the pirate’s feet went flying up into the air as he flipped over once before landing hard on the ground, unconscious.
  21. The four pirates up in the trees keep shooting at the Kurabanda, but all miss The other pirate that had been fighting Starshot reorients himself and spots Laark, running over toward him and shooting, missing with a 12. Soreen takes a shot at the back of one of the pirates in the tree, taking 10 to hit him. The pirate misses his save so goes down. The pirate leader attacks Starshot once more with his knife, missing with a 19 Round Four 24 Kurabanda (3 unharmed, 1 bruised) 21 Laark (unharmed) 20 Starshot (unharmed, 3 HP) 20 Pirates (4 minions: 3 in trees, 1 on ground) 9 Soreen (unharmed) 6 Pirate leader (bruised) The Kurabanda shoot again (the one previously dazed now recovered): this time doing much better with three hits one a crit! All three pirates in the trees that had been shooting at the Kurabana miss their toughness saves, so they are down! Laark charges the pirate that shot at him, again power attacking (-5 atk/+5 dam), that pirate just misses his save, so he is down. It is down to Starshot and the Pirate leader now and Starshot is up!
  22. GM The pirate leader's eyes went wide as the grenade dropped to the ground. When the smoke exploded outward from the canister, he and the other two pirates attacking Starshot started backing away and coughing. One of the two pirates only made it a few steps, coughing heavily before he collapsed. The other pirate and the leader both managed to resist the smoke’s effect and back outside of its area. Up in the lower branches of the tree near Starshot and another, four of the pirates continued firing at the Kurabanda. Two managed to hit their targets this time. One of the Kurabanda managed to shrug off the energy weapon hit, but the other dropped down to its knees, hurt, but not quite out of the fight. The three Kurabanda still on their feet all sent another volley of arrows flying at the pirates shooting at them, but all missed their targets. Meanwhile, the two pirates that had been on the ground by the opposite tree continued trying to outflank the Kurabanda. But as they were moving the were startled by a crashing sound as Laark charged through some undergrowth toward the two pirates, his large club in his head. Letting out a yell as he closed with the first pirate, Laark delivered a bone jarring blow that knocked the pirate off his feet and sent him flying over a dozen feet away where he landed in some bushes. Using the momentum of his swing, Laark whipped the club back around and hit the second pirate as well, sending him sprawling to the ground unconscious as well.
  23. I thought you used a thermal pellet to start a fire? Anyway more opportunity to use those last two to come! Okay, the two pirates make their saves: 12 and 17 one failed one succeeded. As they are minions, the one that missed his save will be out. The pirate leader easily makes his fort save with a 26 Both the pirate leader and the pirate that made his save will move out of the area of the gas grenade. Four of the other pirates keep shooting at the Kurabanda, getting: 6, 24, 19, 10 so two hits. The Kurabanda get a 24 and a 12, so one is fine, the other bruised and dazed. The other two pirates continue trying to flank the Kurabanda. Round Three 24 Kurabanda (3 unharmed, 1 bruised and dazed) 21 Laark (unharmed) 20 Starshot (unharmed, 3 HP) 20 Pirates (7 minions) 9 Soreen (unharmed) 6 Pirate leader (bruised) The Kurabanda fire another volley of arrows, but do poorly and all miss. Laark charges the two pirates trying to flank the Kurabanda, attack one with his club. He will Power Attack, shifting the +5 to hit to damage and Take 10 to hit the Pirate. That pirate bombs his save with a natural 1 so is down. With Takedown Attack, Laark attacks the other, who also goes down. Back to Starshot!
  24. GM Sending the data from Inspector T'r'ik off to Akasavani for analysis, the Praetorians then set off for a local bar to see what they could learn. The orbital city was set up to be open and spacious, more akin to being on the surface of a world than actually out in space. On CoVic Station, there were only a few parts of the station that currently were set up along such lines, the largest being the Main Plaza. Between Barrier’s towering form and Hyperslice’s constant zipping about certainly attracted a bit of attention as they went. The nearest bar looked to be a nice enough place, although it lacked the certain "character" (as Moon-Moth would say) of the paces Traveller tended to frequent. Inside, Officer Dressa did her best to try to contain Hyperslice somewhat, really only managing to get the Hassaan to stop detaining patrons and interrogating them. While Hyperslice was acting as an unintended distraction, Traveller managed to speak with a few locals. Most expressed a growing concern about the brazen thefts and whether the local law enforcement would be able to do anything about them. One of the individuals she spoke with told her that he had heard that the Indigo Moon based much of its operations out of a few locations in the lower levels of the orbital city. Just as Traveller was done speaking with that patron, she and Barrier received a communication from Akasavani regarding the analysis of the robbery data. A number of the thefts were similar only in that they were of rare and valuable materials that could be easily sold on the black market. However, a large number of the thefts were much more unusual in that they were of high tech equipment parts and supplies. While those could also likely be sold for a nice sum on a black market, the high tech components that had been stolen all had practical applications in nanotech development.
  25. GM Moon-Moth and Cavalier vanished from inside the shuttle, only to instantly reappear down on the surface of the comet. Immediately a powerful electrical current coursed over each of them, causing muscles to clench slightly in pain. But both were able to withstand the assault, although it appeared it would just continue, as the electricity was flaring everywhere around them constantly. Through the pain and brief confusion, Moon-Moth was able to get a bit of clearer look at the comet, even as he realized it was no natural object, but some large artificial construct. Around him and Cavalier were several objects which he realized were not propulsion drives, but arresting thrusters, designed to slow an object down, such as when it was reentering a planet’s atmosphere. Up in the shuttle, Traveller guided the craft down after the other two Praetorians, but as she neared the halo effect around the comet, she realized it was no ordinary combination of gases and ice, it was a forcefield that she was about to slam into! Pulling hard away as she fired maneuvering thrusters to help divert the vessel, the shuttle craft creaked ominously, almost as if it were complaining about the massive strain being placed on it. But it held together as Traveller just barely avoid smashing into the forcefield with the combined velocity of both the shuttle and the comet.
