GM Soreen came forward into the clearing, her blaster pistol lowered. Laark was just behind her, pulling Phalen along with him. They eyed the creatures, who were still focused on their grazing. "Hopefully they will stay focused on their grazing." Soreen commented as she holstered her blaster. "This could take some time." Laark commented as he watched the unusual creatures grazing along the edges of the trampled clearing. His prediction turned out to be accurate, as even when Starshot was able to guide the alpha in a northeastern direction and the rest of the herd began to follow, the creatures took a bit of time to use their acid and then start eating the shard grass. Another problem that became apparent was that they too had thick hides that protected them from the razor sharp grass, allowing them to slip among stalks and then graze a shot ways in. Still, with nearly thirty of the creatures in the herd, they managed to thin out the shard grass enough that it was much easier for Starshot or Laark to hack through remaining stalks and keep after the herd. Overall, the pace was probably about the same. After a couple of hours, the herd apparently had had their fill, as they slipped ahead in the shard grass, no longer stopping to spit their acid or graze. Laark had to start hacking a proper path and it was clear after about twenty minutes or so that the herd had wondered well ahead of them, or possibly even had turned some other direction. After an hour of hacking a path, the group came upon another of the trampled pathways. While one direction of the path was the complete opposite of where they wished to go, the other direction was more or less due north. Not quite the direction they wanted to go, but at least easier going.

Start of Absurdists GM Guide
Thevshi replied to TheAbsurdist's topic in The Lighthouse: Catchphrase!
A good start TA. Looking at our guidebook and such, I was thinking that maybe this should be a category under Getting Started. Just like there is a Player Guide, we could have a GM Guide with a number of different topics. I think what you have so far could be a topic titled something like “Considerations for Scaling Opposition’s PL” or something similar. We could then include some other topics. One that might be worth mentioning is the use of Canon elements and requesting approvals, which does not seem to happen much anymore (unless it is something we have stepped away from and I missed that). For that particular topic it would be well worth it to note that it is rare the refs completely deny permission to use a canon NPC or location, but we might sometimes require some tweaking of an idea. I am sure there are a number of other topics we could come up with for tips for GMing. (and we should note that other than say the canon element approval, the topics are just suggestions on how things could be done). -
Well, there is still no real way Malcom can beat that trick. However, Jack is not too far away to get him to accidently hit Jack again, for the moment. In any event, Malcom only gets a 22 on his toughness save, so is bruised and dazed and knocked well off his feet, landing some 25 feet away.

GM As Starshot stepped out into the clearing and moved slowly further, he was able to see further down the trampled path through the shard grass. There were over two dozen of these creatures spread out along the nearby section of the path, all grazing along the path’s edges. When Starshot approached the largest of the creatures, it initially turned towards him, taking a slightly aggressive stance and generally aiming its snout in his direction. But his calm demeanor and stance appeared to work, as it did not spit any acid, and after a few moments, allowed him to draw closer as it turned back towards the stalk of shard grass it had been eating.

Okay, with Jack dazed we are on to… Round Four 32 Foreshadow (bruised 1 HP, fatigued) 29 Synapse (unharmed 2 HP) 26 Hound (unharmed) 21 Malcom (unharmed) 17 Bloody Mess (unharmed, 2 HP) [4 th round of Boost] 14 Jack (bruised 2) Foreshadow is up!

GM Malcom seemed to be stirred up from Froeshadow's taunts, as he tried to track the movements of the agile crime fighter. "Oh yeah? Let's see how hard you fall when I get a hand on you!" He shouted as he stepped after Foreshadow, launching a powerful right hook. But Foreshadow ducked down just in time, his cape briefly flaring above him and masking how close Jack was behind. Just as the cape dropped down after the costumed crime fighter, Malcom saw Jack right in the path of his punch. But it was too late. Jack was just looking up from glancing down at Harry who had run over to taunt him. *WHAM* Malcom connected solidly with Jack's lower jaw, snapping his head back and sending him flying backward into a nearby parked car. Malcom seemed to stagger slightly at the hit, as the shocked look remained no his face.

Okay, Malcom is trying to hit Foreshadow, just missing with a 24. But that is enough to hit Jack! Jack gets a 21 vs DC 27, so he is knocked off his feet and bruised and dazed. Now we are to Bloody Mess’ turn Cape!

"It was something of a dilemma for a short while after I was taken to Hong Kong to meet my true father." Giang replied. "I of course had been taught to honor family, but I had learned that the people who I had believed were my family all my life were just guardians, tasked with watching over me and training me. My real family were strangers. As I reflected on the classic Chinese philosophy that was part of my training, I decided I owed no duty to the family I had never known, let alone one that intended to use me to further their criminal endeavors." "Since then, I have never regretted my decision. It has brought some danger to those who were my friends here, as both my father and others working for his superior have come looking for me. But those friends were more than willing to stand beside me at those times, just as I have stood with them in their times of need."

Jack totally bombs his bluff check to counter, so he loses his dodge bonus vs Foreshadow next round, making his defense only +5.

Hound Cape, not Mess

Synapse Synapse lowed her arms as the shockwave had passed, looking with slight bewilderment as the fight began to get even stranger when the small, liquid form of Bloody Mess joined the fight. Although not sure what to make of the strange figure, until Foreshadow indicate he knew who it was, Synapse was at least initially relieved he appeared to be on their side. Focusing back on the blond haired Battle Brother, Synapse once again sent out a blast of red psychic energy at his mind. This time she had better results, as Jack cried out in pain, reaching up to grip his head as he staggered a step. Malcom also flinched, as if he felt the pain as well. That makes me somewhat question the circles you run in. She teasing responded to Foreshadow before reaching out with her telepathy towards the strange liquid figure. Bloody Mess then heard a female voice in his head that had a British accent. Cheers. Do not be alarmed, but Foreshadow wanted you in on our little private party line.

Synapse will hit Jack with her mental blast again, this time he gets a 24 which is enough for a bruise. Then she will reach out to add Bloody Mess to the mental link between her and Foreshadow. HGM, is Foreshadow spending his HP to remove his fatigue? Cape, Hound is up!

GM By the time Starshot moved a bit closer to test out the acid it was mostly gone, used up in dissolving the glass coating around the shard grass. What little remained did manage to sear a small gouge into the tip of his boot, but did not penetrate too deeply. Then he heard some cracking, looking back up he saw across the clearing a large creature about the size of a wild boar, with short legs and a long snout, sort of like an aardvark's. Between its two point ears on the top of its head was a large crest of some sort. Like the larger creatures Starshot and his group had encountered, this creature appeared to have a very thick hide that likely provided protection against the shard grass. The creature did not appear to notice Starshot, as it walked over towards the still standing shard grass. As the space hunter watched, the creature spit out the acid he had seen on the ground, which hit several stalks of the shard grass and began eating through the outer coating. Just as Starshot had surmised, after a few moments the creature began chewing on the grass underneath, toppling several stalks. A couple more of the creatures moved into view, using the same process to remove the obstacle to getting their food.

Giang only gave her jacket on the nearby bench the briefest of glances before focusing back on Zhu. "Whomever it is from it can wait." She replied "But yes, my father knew I would have my powers. In fact, he did everything he could to ensure that I would have the powers I do. I have four half-siblings, and each of us possessing the powers of one of the phases of the Wu Xing. I was to be the final phase, water. So when he entrusted me to his two followers who would raise and train me, he had very specific instructions on what they were to teach me." "Yet, somewhere along the way the couple who I grew up believing to be my parents failed to ensure blind loyalty to my true father, who I did not meet until I was about your age. So, when he sought to have me join him and my half-siblings in seeking to expand his criminal empire, I instead fled, eventually finding my way here."

ah, nope. Go ahead and post IC.

Like I said, I have some thoughts on some threads.

Might if one of us tries to stop you!

You know that is about three rounds of actions there right Ari? It is just one round to teleport there and then use the obscure.

GM "Yeah, would be nice to be somewhere where the foliage won't cut us to ribbons if we try to hide in it." Soreen replied in agreement as she finished up gathering her gear and slung her pack onto her back. Laark already had his gear on as he pulled Phalen up and got the crazed alien ready to move as well. Given the herd of large creatures the group had been following had turned south, the opposite direction they wanted to go, there was no choice but to go back to cutting their own path. So the time consuming work began, with Starshot and Laark taking turns at cutting a wide enough path for the group to make their way safely through. After several hours they had managed to get a few kilometers, when Starshot hacked away come shard grass to come upon another clearing. However, just as he was finishing clearing the entrance to the clearing, he glanced down at the space just beyond the path he had cut and noted something odd. There was several stalks of shard grass lying on the ground, the glass like shell around the stalks covered in some liquid that was causing it to sizzle and dissolve…

Good enough for me, part of the reason for this thread.

So, Tiff mentioned the other night that it has been awhile since any Freedom League PCs have bene doing anything. I might have some ideas for some threads, but wanted to check what characters are involved with the League these days. League Members: Fluer de Joie Velocity Gaian Knight (and Tiamat) Gabriel (when we get KD back) League Auxiliary Comrade Frost Glamazon Volcanic Sandman Is there anyone I am missing?

Okay, there is no way Malcom can beat that Acrobatic Bluff. Go ahead with your IC post. However, there is one issue, Jack moved too far away for a 5' step to put you between him and Malcom.

GM "Perhaps if you had spent less time fleeing and more trying to help others you might have seen us." Pulsar responded to Bliss, his eyes flaring dangerously with power. "Pulsar!" Magnetar stated once more, stepping slightly in the other Praetorian's way. Pulsar let the energy building up dissipate before turning away in disgust. Magnetar then looked back at Bliss as he added, "we Praetorians were spread along the entire front against the Communion. We all fought in plenty of battles, during the Incursion AND two thousand years ago when we first faced the Communion. But none of that is important right now." At both Bliss and Barrier's comments regarding the objectives of the mercenaries that had fled, Magnater turned back to the large Praetorian as she lifted up into the air. The vehicle the mercenaries had fled in, along with the Peacekeeper vehicles that had pursued it were long out of sight. "If this was just a distraction, wouldn’t pursuing them just continue to serve that goal?" Magnetar asked. "The more important question is what is this to distract from?"

Paradigm "Caused the problem?" Paradigm asked as she kept the large alien pinned on the ground while Magnetar and Seresk began preparing the other aliens to be transported to the Praetorian spacecraft. "Hardly, your assistance is very appreciated." In short order the Praetorians and Queenie had secured all the alien criminals in the Praetorian’s space craft for transport back to Lor space. All four heroes were then gathered outside as they prepared to depart. "I would like to thank you again for your assistance. If you ever wish to travel to Coalition Victory Station, we would be pleased to host you at our headquarters there." Paradigm said. "If you we could provide transport to any of the outer planets on our way toward the wormhole."
