  1. Despite the years that had passed since she had first joined the League, Velocity was still the youngest person in the room. While the young woman had seen and experience a lot in her time with the League, but all that still had not quite prepared her for what Daedalus revealed. She looked considerably paler than normal, but was managing to hold herself together as she sat there listening to the others’ responses and questions. "There has to be something we can do." She finally stated, as if seeking to reinforce Gabriel's last comment. When she spoke, Velocity no longer used the more rapid inflection she usually used in costume, it was the normal voice of Megan Howell.
  2. Gankun, I take the bruises into account by lowering his toughness save. Anyway, he gets a 14, which would be Staggered and Dazed, but I will just put him out so we can move forward! Go ahead and post!
  3. He gets a 21, so yet another bruise. Liquify is up!
  4. Round Nine 12 Coiled Lightning (bruised, 1 HP) 7 Liquify (bruised, 1 HP) 2 Big Thug (bruised 3) Coiled is up!
  5. The van veered to one side, slamming into the back of a parked car and coming to a sudden halt. The other man that had jumped into the back was flung about by the sudden stop and knocked unconscious as well. The large man let out a grunt as he shook off Coiled Lightning's latest attack with seemingly little effect. The man stepped forward again, this time taking advantage of how exposed the costumed hero had left himself, delivering a powerful right hook to Coiled's left side. But the hero had at least seen the attack coming, and if he could not completely avoid it, he had managed to twist just enough at the last moment that the blow was not quite as solid as it might have been. It still hurt, but could have been much worse.
  6. <Annnd of course she would be all Steampunk.> Dee mentally relayed to Ulysses as she almost rolled her eyes at the sight of Annie Key. The young Englishwoman then took a step forward and she spoke out loud in response to Annie's question. "Annie Key I presume. We are just a pair of travelers who are here to put an end to your acts of terrorism against the Intercontinental Railway project." Although Dee had a rather good idea how things would unfold, she still felt obligated to give Annie a choice. "Things would go a lot easier for you and your associates if you just surrendered."
  7. The Big Thug takes another swing at Coiled, hitting with a 21, so DC 23 toughness save for Coiled!
  8. Well SG, what Emily was told (and I guess Memorial as well) is sort of in Rav's hands (though HG has been playing Memorial as if she is aware Lor-Van is gone). Anyway, no Rav, the ref team actually nixed the idea of equipment level translators. We had talked about the possibility of one's set for a specific language (basically a rank of the Language skill) but never OK'd that.
  9. Yeah, that is an impossible save for him, so he is out! Go ahead and post!
  10. Okay, we will give stealth a chance...and it is not likely going well as Synapse gets a 9.
  11. "Coordinates received, we are in route." Amara replied before shutting off the comm once more as the Praetorian piloting began altering the tear drop shaped spacecraft's course towards the Either Ore's location. The Naram then looked back at Kharag where he was busy applying his war paint. "Thank you for your wise counsel Kharag. However, laying traps is not the Communion's normal means of operating. It is also not unexpected there would be stragglers from the Lor's retreat from Lor-Van. I would expect every spacecraft capable of leaving the planet was used, including ones that otherwise were in need of repairs." "But, the Communion has not exactly been acting as they did when we last faced them. And even if this is not a trap, you are correct in that Communion ships could still come upon us there in any event. So, we will indeed proceed with caution. Get a spacesuit on. When we arrive, you and I will fly over so the Devotion does not have to dock and be left vulnerable. Elite and the others can remain aboard to keep watch for any Communion forces."
  12. GM Bowman had made his way in with Comrade Frost, the two of them being the last of the Freedom League members to arrive. The room was rather full now, although there was the noticeable absence of Lady Liberty, who was still out on maternity leave. The various low conversations in the room fell quiet as Captain Thunder stood up. "Thank you all from coming, I wish this was due to more pleasant circumstances, but we have received some very disturbing news." Daedalus then stood up, moving over toward a screen along one of the walls. "Less than an hour ago, we received a transmission from A'lan Koor, the Lor Star Knight who was a member of the original League along with Pseudo and myself. Apparently over the last few days, the Star Knights had received various reports of attacks along the border of the Grue Unity and within parts of the Stellar Khanate." The screen activated, showing a map of a large section of the galaxy, the relevant portions of the Unity and Khanate highlighted in red to stand out. "Then, about two hours ago, a large force was detected approaching Lor-Van, the capital of the Lor Republic." A system highlighted yellow on the displayed map. "Somehow this force had bypassed the Lor boarder defenses and other military outposts along the way. The Star Knights dispatched the available Knights on CITADEL and nearby systems to assist the Lor. They arrived to assist the Lor planetary defense fleet battle this previously unknown force. As it turned out, there was at least one familiar face with the unknown force, or somewhat familiar." Daedalus swiped his hand over a control for the screen and the map was gone and a replay of Star Khan's message to Lor-Van played for the assembled members of the Freedom League. Once it finished, the screen went black as Daedalus began to speak once again. "This Communion then deployed a massive spacecraft that was in its attack fleet to target Lor-Van, the Star Knights present positioned themselves to protect the planet and allow the evacuation already underway more time. Nearly five hundred Star Knights were killed by this superweapon's first shot." Daedalus paused a moment, then continued. "According to A'lan, the second shot completely destroyed Lor-Van, leaving a wormhole in its place."
  13. "This way then." Gallan replied as Oskar indicted he would like to see the bodies and leading the group back out of the botanical laboratory. As they made their way back down the smooth corridors of the outpost, the administrator responded to Oskar's question on how to tackle the problem. "Well, you are supposed to be the expert in this, we have no real preference in how to try to track whatever is responsible down." "Of course, simply escorting our teams will be difficult, as we send out several at once in order to cover all the collection points."
  14. While the three passengers aboard the Nomad continued to talk (with Memorial providing translation) and play chess, the stars out in the void continued to streak by at incredible speed. The Nomad was not the fastest ship in terms of interstellar travel, but it was fast enough to get the makeshift group to where the needed to be. Up where she had locked herself in the cockpit, Corona checked the heading and position yet again. This time the results helped provide the Lor officer with something else to focus on, at least for a few moments. The Nomad had reached the edge of the sector that she had been ordered to patrol and investigate pirate activity.
  15. Velocity gets a 17.
  16. Stealth is not exactly Dee’s strong point, and I think even less Ulysses’. Dee gets a 23 on her notice check.
  17. Rav, I'll say you have reached the edge of the sector from which the reports have been received.
  18. That hits, but the big thugs gets lucky with a 25 toughness save!
  19. The pickpocket let you small yelp of pain at the squeezing Oskar's cybernetic hand provided, before scuttling away into the crowd once released. With Ana setting the group back on the right track, they continued onward through the twisting streets, eventually reaching the main bazaar. As the name hinted, the already twisting and crowded streets of Nocturnis gave way to even more narrow, winding and crowded streets. In addition to the shops in the buildings that framed the streets, numerous stands had been set up in the middle of the streets of the main bazaar, and in places where enough open space remained, other vendors had set up on a simple rug or blanket, usually positioned so as not to interfere with the narrow pedestrian paths, but not always. Now that they had reached the main bazaar, it became an issue of finding the right shop amidst the chaos. Oskar began to inquire with some of the nearest vendors, which resulted in some general directions, after he had overcome sales pitches on how the particular selection at Fariar Uloc's shop was far inferior. As the trio progressed further into the bazaar, Oskar found he needed to ask additional directions a number of times before they finally arrived in a narrow back alley which led up a steep hill. About halfway up the hillside, located at a sharp turn in the alley, sat Uloc's shop, something of a hole-in-the-wall sort of junk/antique shop.
  20. OOC for thread. You can go ahead and make opposed Int checks for the chess game if you really want. Kn: Tactics would likely be appropriate as well.
  21. A second hit from Coiled Lightning's electrical whip sent a jolt through Slice that pulled him from the hands of the man who had been trying to help him. The costumed villain then collapsed onto the floor, clearly unconscious. The large thug took the powerful hit from Liquify, grunting slightly in pain. He then snarled at Coiled Lightning as he took another step forward, swinging at the costumed hero. But the attack was clumsy and Coiled was easily able to duck underneath and put a short distance between them. The thug who had been holding Slice seemed to take Coiled Lightning's words to heart, or at least partially. The man jumped into the back of the van and yelled out at the man behind the wheel. "Let's get outa here!" The other man apparently needed little encouragement to get away from the two superheroes, and pushed his foot down on the accelerator, pulling the van away from the loading dock. The van swerved slightly as it pulled away, and then turned onto the nearby street to try to speed away...
  22. The big thug tries to attack Coiled, missing with a 12. Round Eight 16 Thugs 12 Coiled Lightning (unharmed, 1 HP) 7 Liquify (bruised, 1 HP) 2 Big Thug (bruised 3) The thug who had Slice jumps into the back of the van and the one driving starts to pull away. As it starts to turn out of the loading area, Liquify will have a chance at punching the driver again (thanks to Elogation). And Coiled is up!
  23. By the time Fleur. Gaian Knight and Tiamat had arrived in the meeting room, the number of League members had already grown. Siren, Pseudo and Raven were all now present as well. Captain Thunder greeted each of them as well, indicating they were waiting for the rest to arrive before they would begin. Velocity gave Stesha a smile as the green haired woman came over to her, then giving Gaian and Tiamat one as well. "I have no idea. Captain Thunder hasn't said anything other than hello and that we would wait on the others." The speedster replied. "It does seem pretty serious though."
  24. Aboard the Praetorian Aquila Class Starship Devotion Amara Val-Ren sat in the command seat of the spacecraft, somewhat lost in thought as she considered the difficult task ahead of her and her fellow Praetorians. The Communion had returned in far greater numbers than they had faced over two thousand years ago, with the Praetorians at full numbers, and the backing of the Delaztri Empire. Now she and a majority of the surviving members were traveling towards the Lor Republic to try to help reorganize the Lor for a counter-offensive. She had sent another group of Praetorians to investigate what was believed to be the next planet targeted by the Communion's wormhole weapon. Amara sincerely hoped that she had not sent her friends and teammates to their deaths. Suddenly, she was pulled from her thoughts by one the others at the communications station. "Paradigm, we are picking up a distress signal." The Praetorian did not hesitate to play the message over the internal audio speakers. "Open a channel." Amara stated after hearing the message. "Attention Either Ore, this is Paradigm of the Praetorians aboard the Devotion, we are in receipt of your distress call. Please send your coordinates and we will be there as soon as possible."
  25. Aboard the Nomad The edge of the Lor Republic 19 Hours After Destruction of Lor-Van Aya K'zan, also known as Corona, had received a transmission about the attack on Lor-Van far too late for her to be able to try to get there aboard the Nomad. After learning of the destruction of the capital of the Republic at the hands of some new enemy called the Communion, she had contacted two of the few allies she had made since her arrival on Earth, a human Emily Stenford, also known as Mechanized; and another off-worlder, Memorial, formally of Belran. As it turned out, Memorial knew a good deal about the Communion, making it an even easier decision for Corona to bring her along. The three had been heading to try to rendezvous with the Lor fleet on the Nomad when they had received a transmission from Lor Fleet Command. With the chaos the Communion attacks had brought, and the Star Knights shifting their forces to help address the threat, large sections of space had been left unpatrolled or defended. Reports had come in from systems just along the spinward boarder of the Republic about increased pirate activity, capitalizing on the chaos and absence of Star Knights. Command had ordered Corona to alter course to investigate the activity and deal with it, noting that it was the sector assigned to one of the Star Knights that had died trying to defend Lor-Van. Corona had also been directed to make a stop to pick up an additional passenger from a system along the way, a Tempestian known as Galvanic, who had been known to provide help to those in need since leaving Tempest. Now with Galvanic aboard, the Nomad was well underway towards the sector of space that had seen the worst increase in pirate activity.
