  1. Ducking down out of sight, Coiled Lightning opens the dufflebag and takes a look inside. Jane had at least been partially correct about what might be inside the time capsule, as he could see what looked like some records for 30's jazz bands, and what looked like some film reels. There were a few other assorted memorabilia from the 1930s, but what stood out the most was a long, hooded black cloak. Down below, the large thug ran over to the van, jumping inside after the others. One of the thugs slammed the door shoot, and the van peeled off down the street, turning to the south and speeding away from the scene. The two police officers lowed their firearms, each taking a deep breath before one called in backup while the other began handcuffing the two masked men that had been knocked unconscious.
  2. Round Six 22 Coiled Lightning (bruise 2, fatigued, 0 HP) 7 Big Thug (bruise 3) 6 Thugs (2 w/ crowbar and driver of van) 6 SMG Thug (injured, bruised) 3 Slice 3 Police
  3. The large thug snarled with rage as Coiled Lightning managed to deprive him of the dufflebag into which he had just placed the contents of the capsule. But before he could lunge at the hero when he came running over to snatch up the bag, the hero used his electric whip to swing up to a nearby rooftop. Reaching down, the large thug picked up a piece of the capsule's concrete lid and tossed it at Coiled Lightning. But the projectile stuck the side of the building just below the edge, shattering into smaller pieces and raining back down to the sidewalk below. Meanwhile the two thugs with crowbars tried to hit the police officers one last time, again failing to land hits that were not deflected by the two officers. The two men then turned and ran over to jump into the open van. The thug in the van with the sub-machinegun leveled it at the two police officers and fired off a burst, but he failed to anticipate the weapon's kick, the burst flew well overhead of the officers. The costumed villain with the energy weapon tracked Coiled Lightning's path, aiming his weapon at the hero. He fired off a blast that struck home, but Coiled Lightning was able to take the hit without too much effect. Cursing under his breath, the man shouted over his shoulder at the large thug. "Let's get out of here before backup arrives." With that, he ran over and jumped into the back of the van as well. The two police officers dropped their tonfa and proceeded to draw their sidearms, each taking aim at the thug with the sub-machinegun. One of the shots blew out a window in the back of the van, but otherwise missed. The other clipped the thug's left shoulder, injuring him, but not severely. Up on the rooftop, Coiled Lightning felt a wave of fatigue wash over him.
  4. She was moved to the hero bank as soon as I gave her the second approval Goose
  5. Right, sorry, did not calculate all that out, just saw you sticking with the same and remembering the bump to base Str. Should have calculated it all out. Anyway, just slightly below PL caps offensively, but that can be corrected when you pick up a bit of experience. APPROVED
  6. Okay SG, just a few more small things (one I just noticed). We are almost there! Need to list the -1 size for the Force Cannon. I just realized that you still have Enhanced Str 14 in the array, even though you bumped her base strength to 10. This means you will have a Str 34 when using that alt slot, for a +12 dam bonus, which works just fine with your reduced Melee attack bonus of +8. You will need to list that you have a -2 atk/+2 dam trade off for Melee. Your grapple line needs some correction. +5 unarmored is right. Armored it becomes +8, and +27 with the servo-motors active (+8 melee +12 Str bonus +3 Super-strength +4 from size).

Okay, go ahead with a IC post.
  8. SG, I can understand the desire to try to tie into a coming site Event, but it may be that some elements of the backstory you have developed might not work in light of trying to tie to that event. I for one am more than willing to have the identity of whatever enemy destroyed Rabia remain unknown, to be developed at some future time.
  9. Over all is looking good SG, only there are errors on the attack line in combat. You have forgotten to account for the -1 for the size penalty of the suit. As such, your Melee in suit would be +8 (+4 base +5 AF: Melee -1 size). For the Force Cannon, it would also be +9 (+4 base +6 AS -1 size). The base range attack bonus would only be +3 in the suit.
  10. Velocity was frowning slightly as Robert and Grim theorized more on what was going on and how it was likely her presence made things all the worse, particularly when she was using her speed. She gave Grim an encouraging smile as the other heroine mentioned feeling badly about drawing her and Robert into this. "Don't worry about it Grim. Getting draw into these sorts of things sort of goes with our line of work. And in any event, I would rather be here than you facing this alone." She then focused back on Robert's suggestions on how to possibly shut off the machine. "Well, cutting the power might be an idea, if we clear out of here and can find a way to do so. How about we clear everyone out of this room, then I see how all this stuff handles a contained sonic boom and maybe just break it all?" But before anyone could answer, some old phone rang in the room. Velocity was able to quickly spot the phone, taking a fraction of a second to thoroughly scan the entire room. She was then by the phone quickly, but not too quickly. "What do you want?"
  11. The big thug will pick up a piece of the concrete lid and throw it up at CL, missing with a 15. The two thugs with crowbars will take one more swing at the cops, both missing again, and then running to the van. The thug in the back of the van will open up on the two cops with his SMG, missing horribly with a 5. The guy with the blaster will shoot at CL, hitting with a 25, DC 22 toughness save. The two cops will move for cover and draw their pistols, shooting at the thug with the SMG, one hits, one misses, the thug just misses his toughness save, so is injured and bruised.

KD, the free-action escape from a snare is for cases where the character has enough strength to just pull themselves free with minimal effort. Gabe is actually triggering a standard action attack to blast free. There is a bit of debate whether you can power attack inanimate objects (which generally do not require to-hit rolls anyway) but I will allow that and the autofire will certainly apply. So that will be a DC 35 toughness save for the ice. The snare gets a 12, so it blast apart!
  13. Sure, I'll let you take a normal move action and pick up the bag as part of that. Did you want to take the Fatigue right now for the Surge (won't effect you till the end of the round)?
  14. A "normal" human with +9 Will and Reflex saves and +8 base attack bonus? Generally our "normal" characters are still a bit above the baseline bystander in at least a few attributes. A couple of small math errors. Your Notice should only be +7, as you no longer have a Wis bonus. For the Combat Software, it is 21 pp in the container not 20, which is actually fine, as you need that extra 1 pp to use all 95 pp in the armor. For the Superstrength feat, it is Groundstrike, not Ground Pound. A couple of small formating suggestions, for your Array and the Container, you should have a lead title for each that does not have the array tags. For example, you array should look like this: Offensive Systems 10.5 (21 PP Array, 3 Alternate Powers) [24PP] Base Power: Alternate Power Etc... Also, the base power and each alternate power in the array should have their point cost designated at the end with {} around them. For example, the Force Cannon would have its cost marked as {21/21}, indicating it is using all 21 points in the array. The Flamethrower would be {20/21}. All the sub parts to the container need to have their individual costs notated that way as well. This allows us to see exactly what is within an array or container and know the costs associated with each. And one final thing, unfortunately, you currently have 79 PP spent on Emily for when she is outside the armor, but only 77 PP spent on the armor. This means she would no longer qualify for the Normal Identity drawback, which requires the "normal" character to be built on no more than half (or less) of the total power points for the build.
  15. He only gets a 21, so is disarmed of the dufflebag. So you force him to drop the bag.
  16. New Beginnings Del Mar, California Monday, July 7, 2014, 10:24 AM The warm California sun was starting to near the mid-point of the day, shinning down of the several mile stretch of beach in Del Mar California. The hot weather, and unusually warm waters of the Pacific Ocean resulted in a very crowded beach for a weekday, even one following the three day Fourth of July weekend. Along the beach, there were families with children of various ages playing in the sand, teenagers and young adults out to tan or play beach games and a variety of other beachgoers. In the water there were people just wading in to help deal with the steadily hotter day, swimmers and boggy boarders, and a bit further out, some surfers, including a couple of surfing classes. Giang Trang was looking out over all of this activity from up on the second story balcony of one of the Del Mar Lifeguard stations spread along the beach. The Asian teenager was dressed in a one piece red swimsuit, with a dark sunglasses over her eyes to help with the glare off the sand and water. A pair of binoculars were close on hand if needed. A gentle breeze stirred nearby flags, causing a few strands of Giang's long black hair to blow out of place as she continued to look over the area for any signs of someone in trouble. "So Giang, how are you liking Southern California so far?" Asked a blonde haired lifeguard standing at the other side of the balcony. Amy Crawford was in her late twenties, and one of the more senior lifeguards currently on duty at this station. "It has been very enjoyable so far Amy." The Asian teen replied with a small smile. "The weather is much more similar to Vietnam than Freedom City's, if less humid. I am still learning my way around, but the area around my apartment seems very nice, and I certainly enjoy the job." After finishing at Claremont Academy back in late May and visiting her roommate Thaliea's family in Atlantis, Giang had made the move from Freedom City to San Diego so she could attend the University of California: San Diego in the fall. She had begun looking for a job for the rest of the summer and something she could possibly work part time when her classes began. Having worked part time as a lifeguard at a community center pool back in Freedom City, she had tried several of the lifeguard stations for the beaches in the towns in and around San Diego as well as at a number of community centers and athletic facilities in the area as well. She had been fortunate enough to obtain a part time position with the Del Mar lifeguard station, as well as a part time position with an athletic club in the Del Mar Heights area as well. Making the move to the West Coast had been something of a risk for Giang. Doctor Sin’s criminal organization, as well as her father’s was much more active in this part of the United States than they were on the East Coast, and Freedom City in particular. But as one of her former Claremont classmates, and close friends, had once told her after they had fought off an attack of agents sent by her father during the Chinese New Year celebration in Freedom City, she should not live her life in fear of potential attacks from those after her. In any event, her troubles with Tongs and Triads coming after her had diminished some after she and a number of other Claremont students had defeated one of Doctor Sin's key lieutenants, Lady Shen, and destroyed the training facility she had run for the Doctor in the South Pacific. She knew it was unlikely that her father, or Doctor Sin, would never try to come after her again, but she now took measures to try to prepare for such an eventuality. "Glad to hear." Amy replied with a nod, looking back out over the beach with her pair of binoculars. "If you ever need any help with anything, don't be afraid…." The older woman’s voice trailed off as she focused out into the waves along the shore. "Giang! It looks like we have a swimmer in trouble!" Giang turned her attention toward the area Amy was looking at, quickly spotting a swimmer that was struggling to get his head above the water. "I see him!" Giang replied as she rushed over towards a pole alongside the balcony that went down to the lower level, similar to the poles in a fire station. Once down on the sand, the Asian teen grabbed one of the flotation devices hanging on the wall nearby and started sprinting off toward where the swimmer was in distress. As she ran, Giang dodged between people on the beach, her gaze focused on the area the swimmer was in. In truth, she could easily rescue the man from where she had been up on the balcony of the lifeguard station, simply using her ability to control water to move him back to land. Of course, that would have been an unnecessary display of her powers. While she was not living in fear of her father or Doctor Sin, she was not about to announce her presence to them either. Perhaps if a situation was dire enough she might consider just using her powers, but for now, she was going to do things the old fashion way, mostly. Reaching the water, Giang started wading in, diving in completely once it was deep enough. It took a bit of effort to resist the natural urge to just swim out to the man as fast as she could, which would be far faster than a normal person could swim. She still cut through the water with impressive speed, but was sure to keep things to a more believable speed. As she drew closer, she used her powers to push the man up so his head was above water, even if he was still struggling and flailing about. Drawing up near him, she stopped a few arms lengths away, to avoid being caught in his flailing and struggling. "Calm down, I am here to help!" She called out in a firm voice. "Take this." She tossed the flotation device to the man, a rope still attaching it to her. The man had enough sense to reach out and grab the float, pulling it up under his chest as he began to calm down. Swimming over, Giang quickly clipped the strap to the float around the man's back. "Now just relax, and I will take you back to shore." She stated, as she started swimming back toward the beach, one hand holding the float’s strap as she pulled the man with her. The process took a little bit longer than it had for her to get out, but not much, as she was still able to make good speed, even with the man’s additional weight. Once in the shallow surf, they were meet by Amy and another lifeguard, who helped pull the man to the beach. Now that they were out of the water, Giang focused her gaze on the man, sensing the salt water he had swallowed inside his lungs and stomach. It only took a little bit of assistance from her power to cause the man to expel the salt water, as he coughed and gagged for a few moments, but then began to breathe more easily. For herself, Giang did her best to appear somewhat winded, although she was barely tired at all. "You okay?" Amy took a moment to ask the Asian teen as the other lifeguard was assisting the man. Giang gave a small nod and Amy gave her a wide smile. "Good job." The older woman stated, before focusing back on the man. Several hours later, 4:45 PM The sun was starting to wane into the west, and the crowds on the beach had thinned out considerably. Giang's shift had ended over an hour ago, the excitement of her rescue that morning having faded. After a bit of paperwork and some other administrative tasks at the station, the Asian teen had stayed on the beach to spend a bit of time working on a new hobby she had taken up not long after moving out here and getting her jobs. Currently Giang was sitting on a surf board a couple hundred feet off the beach, bobbing up and down as she waited for a decent wave to come in. Of course, she could make a truly impressive wave if she really wanted to, but she felt that would be cheating in a way. She had decided she wanted to learn surfing the way everyone else did. Of course, she had gotten the hang of it very quickly, after all, she really did not need the surfboard. Floating nearby were two of her co-workers, also done with their shifts, Ryan and Stephanie. Both were in their early twenties, but had only been with the lifeguard station about six months. "So, your first rescue with us huh?" Ryan asked. "As exciting as you expected?" "Yes." Giang replied with a small nod. "And it was quite exhilarating. I'm glad I was able to get to him as quickly as I did." "It sounded as if you made it look easy." Stephanie replied with a smile. "As easy as it was for her to learn to surf?" Ryan responded with a small grin. "I still find it hard to believe you had never surfed before." Giang gave a small shrug. "Never had an opportunity to. But, I did have years of acrobatics training, which provided me very good balance." "And plenty of practice swimming." Stephanie added. "Yes...that as well." Giang was quick to agree. "I guess." Ryan replied, although he still seemed somewhat skeptical. Giang just remained silent, deciding the best tactic was just to act as if any suspicions Ryan might have did not bother her at all. It was not very hard to do, as she was not really bothered by it. While she might have a natural affinity for the water and some advantages, surfing was still new to her, and she certainly would need more practice before she could say she was particularly good at it. There were a few moments of quiet, and then, just as Ryan seemed about to say something else, Giang sensed a shift in the currents coming toward them. "Here comes a good wave." She said, lying down on her board and preparing for the wave to reach them. "Wow, good eye." Stephanie commented, as she spotted the wave spotting to form as well and laid down as well. Ryan was already down, and starting to paddle forward. The wave grew as it drew toward the trio, who were all paddling now, wanting to have forward momentum as the wave reached them. Each was picking up speed as the wave started swelling up behind them, and they all pushed up off their boards and back onto their feet. Giang could feel the water moving all around her as her board was starting to be pushed forward by the board even faster than it was already moving. Shifting her weight slightly and leaning back, Giang turned her board out to pick up a bit more speed from the wave, which pushed her forward onto its front. Then, just as it was starting to break, she shifted her weight once more, turning the board to cut across the wave, as she gained even more speed and began riding along the front of the cresting wave. A rush of adrenaline surged through the Asian teen as she rode along the wave for a few moments, the feeling making the long minutes of waiting well worth it. Then she sensed the wave starting to falter as it began to be pulled back in the undertow. Just as it was starting to crash and smooth out, Giang turned her board back out toward the ocean, her momentum stalling as she went straight at what was left of the wave. As she all but came to a complete halt, she let herself fall off to the right side of the board, grabbing ahold of it with her left hand to keep right beside it. She bobbed in the water for only a moment, before pulling herself back up on the board and starting to paddle further back out to get ready for another wave. She could hear Ryan and Stephanie calling out to her as they started paddling out as well. For all her worries and concerns, right now, Giang was more than happy to just let herself live in the moment….

Fleur comes out along rural highway 53 as it heads west out of town. She can see the ice wall still blocking it slightly to the west, although it appears to be starting to melt. There is a restaurant nearby, but no sign of Aries or Leo.
  19. Round Six 22 Coiled Lightning (bruise 2, 1 HP) 7 Big Thug (bruise 3) 6 Thugs (2 left) 3 Slice 3 Police Back to Coiled Lightning!
  20. The large thug grunted in pain as the electricity whip struck him once more. "Can someone get rid of that guy!" He snarled, as he pulled off the lid of the time capsule, dumping the heavy piece of concrete off to one side. He then snatched up the dufflebag and began stuffing things inside it from within the capsule. The two men with crowbars continued trying to strike the pair of police officers still in the fight, but the officers continued warding off the attacks with their tonfa. A screech of tires sounded down the block, as a dark van pulled around the cornet sharply and sped over next to the demolition site, skidding to a halt. One of the side doors slide open, and in the back was another man in a black ski mask. He was armed with a sub-machinegun. "Let's get out of here!" Shouted the man with the energy pistol, as he moved towards the door to the van, shooting at Coiled Lightning as he went. The blast of energy sizzled by the hero as he just managed to dodge to one side of the attack. The two police officers both managed to strike the crowbar armed thugs with their tonfa, but neither thug seemed badly injured by the attacks.
  21. The two thugs continue to try to attack the police, and continue to miss. A van pulls around the corner and stops near the demolition site, a side door opening. The leader with the energy pistol fires at Coiled once again, missing this time with a 15. The police continue their fight with the thugs. They both hit. Both thugs make their saves, one with a 19, the other with a 23.
  22. SG, since we have been working on finalizing the character you submitted in the Character Bank, to avoid confusion it might be best to stop changing this version of the character. Or perhaps I can just move over the other character sheet her for some more fine tuning and then you can resubmit?
  23. Okay, just a few more things to adjust. For you combat block, I would not bother listing the +8 to range when in the suit, as that just ends up the same thanks to the AF: Range feat. But you should probably list that your +10 with the Force Cannon. Your knockback in the suit would only be -11. For your Toughness and Fort saves, you should probably list what they are outside of the suit. I would just make your combat software a container (with 3.8 ranks), then you do not need everything linked together like you have it listed. It is basically what you have done, just does not require the linking. For the Protection, you already have +1 from Con from the suit’s Growth, so 13 ranks of protection would put you at +14 toughness, and over caps. So you need to drop that down by 1, which frees up on point in the armor. Also, your character’s stats are looking very slim, we generally like to see PCs that have a bit more investment in stats. And one little point, you talk about your character being military minded, but the character has no Kn: Tactics. Master Plan aside, that really does not make her particularly skilled at tactics.
  24. The big guy gets a 25, so he is bruised (now at 3).
  25. Titan and Riff: "That's right." Cross responded, nodding his head as Riff mentioned the title of his book. "So, it probably is not a big surprise that I want to talk with you two. I would be very interested to hear about your powers, and how you obtained or learned about them." Asad: "Really Amir, I am sorry to hear about your problems." Topple replied. "You know people like us are often targets, and your acting as a publicly known superhero has not likely helped that. As for my challenge as you call it, well, perhaps I did challenge some. But I think for those supercriminals that might have seen me as an easy mark, they might possibly be dissuaded from trying to come after me now." "So relax, have another glass of champagne, there is no reason you cannot enjoy the party." He then added. "And if some supervillains do attack us, well, you can just let my guy handle things if you like." Topple then moved off in the crowd, talking with some of the reporters and a few of the other guests.
