  1. So, it has been over two weeks since it was initially Blode's action. I am going to just move forward tomorrow night.
  2. Okay, we are sort of moving once more. Will wait for something for Nick TT, then we will likely be wrapping up the dinner scene soon. Would like to get an idea what sort of preparations either of you might want to try to make that night before the curse actually is supposed to start the next day. (Though I would mainly expect maybe something from Nick). Just let me know and we can work on it (and have what scenes we might need depending).
  3. Okay, I plan to move us forward tomorrow morning. Would be good to get some more posts from people before then!
  4. The trek to the nearest town had not been too long, but it had been very hot and tiring. Dee was reminded of the time she had spent in Africa not long ago, but at least then she had had clothes that were more suited for the weather. The costume Young Britannia had helped come up with was too tight and covered to be very comfortable in such weather. Dee had unzipped the front some, about as far down as she dared without it becoming completely unmodest, but that had only slightly helped. The young Englishwoman was relieved when the Indian doctor came and took charge of Bob, appearing to have a good handle on the situation. That allowed Dee to focus on other issues, like how she was going to get them all back to where the belonged. But the answer to that seemed somehow connected to this railroad and the attempts to sabotage the work. Fanning herself slightly as she focused back on Singh as he talked again about the troubles with getting the rail completed, considering the issues they were having. His reaction to her disarming that bomb had once again confirmed how different this world was (she had not mentioned that where she was from, women were allowed in the army). "So tell me Captain, what does this line you are working on connect? And who might not want to see it completed?"
  5. Well, it is a basic hit, but the gun gets a 22 on its toughness save.
  6. Also, I would point out that Giang's powers are generally magical in nature.
  7. Hmm Rav, I would be interested in having Synapse be considered. She is still at PL 10 caps (with some of her stuff below that actually) and enjoys going to clubs and the like. It would be her first trip to Freedom City!
  8. Moria, I know you appear to be leaning away from the Perception Area versions you list there, but I would point out a couple things about them. First, a Perception Area effect includes by default the Sense Dependent limitation, so you would not be able to apply the Sense Dependent limitation (basically the Perception Area extra is a +2 extra, reduced by 1 for being Sense Dependent). Second, if the target of a Perception Area effect makes their Reflex save, they completely avoid the effect, instead of just reducing it by half.
  9. Sszinid, I would not be quite so quick to just abandon idea #2. As I read it, you were suggesting that someone would be influenced by (or afraid of) Professor Psion's theory, not that the story would directly involve Professor Psion or any of the other Psions. If that is the case, the fact that Professor Psion is now dead and there has been a major shakeup in the family would not change the premise of the thread, as the influence of his theories can easily continue on past his death. Now, that said, this might be a good time to point out something to you about the use of canon elements from the books here. In cases where you might want to have a thread involving a canon character, location, organization, etc; or a case where consequences from the thread could have long term broad implications to the setting as a whole, whomever is GMing the thread needs to send a private message to the Ref team outlining how they want to use the canon element (or how the potential consequences of the thread might impact the setting). Then, we can either give the GM permission to go ahead with the thread, say the particular canon element is not free to be used, or work with the GM to ensure the use of the canon element does not interfere with any long term plans for that canon element (in this example, what AvengerAssembled has in mind for the Psions). So, if I am right and your only talking about some new NPC created by you (or whomever GM's the thread) being influenced by Professor Psion's ideas, I would say that if you want to go with idea #2, discuss the idea some with AA, either by PM or in chat, just to be sure it does not interfere with what he has planned (or how it could be used to help advance some of what he wants to do).
  10. At Freddy's words, Diaz seems almost to shrink somewhat, shame evident in his stance and the look on his face. "Fighting is about the only thing that I have been really good at." He began. "But getting to the big national circuits is not an easy thing. So, when I heard about this underground ring in the Fens, I tried it out, managing to win some fights and make some money." "Then I was told about the 'next level,' and how I could make even more money, so I took the chance when it was offered. But when I got here, I realized how wrong all of this was. The fights are held in this empty room with ring, the fight being broadcast to other locations where the 'clients' of the guys running this operation gather. And then there was just the level of brutality that was expected here, I mean, those underground rings are rough, but I saw fighters here get seriously hurt. So...I decided that I did not want to be part of this anymore, but the guys running this place did not like that. So they kept me here locked up, saying they were going to make an example out of me." "I'm really sorry you all had to come looking for me and had to go through all this." He added, his tone very apologetic.
  11. "Yes, we found that." Dee replied as Cruxberry mentioned the shut the Freedom City. The young woman then focused on his demand to know what was going on. "At the moment we have partial control over the Haven, but VERA is outside our direct control and operating under protocols to stop anyone who enters. For the moment we have her isolated in the system, but that could change at any moment." "So for the time being, it is probably not safe for you to enter. I am probably going to have to go about taking all the defense systems offline individually and see about completely disconnecting VERA from the Haven's systems until we can be assured we can get control over her as well. And incidentally, we do not have any details at the moment, but apparently Champion was the one that sealed of the Haven, after he was for some reason unsuccessful in trying to initiate the self destruct."
  12. So making two rolls for Synapse (with the +2), she gets a 28 and a 12.
  13. Thanks for letting me know Rose! I will be sure to keep that in mind when it might come up!
  14. APPROVED
  15. Dee had to admit that Singh was correct about the view, although between the heat and the worry about Bob's injury, she was somewhat distracted from appreciating it fully. Once again she was wishing one of her other teammates was where with her. Young Britannia could have gotten Bob to the hospital they were now traveling toward, or even a more distant better one, in the blink of an eye. As they went, the Englishwoman kept an eye out for the explosive Ulysses had found. The readings Rost had from the incidents in Dover had indicated that a bridge was being formed between this dimension and her own. Dee wanted to see if the bombs provided some answer to the how and why the bridge that had clearly brought her and other two over was formed. When the group reached the spot, Dee motioned for the workers to take Bob over to some shade well away from the bomb. She then glanced at Singh and Ulysses. "Alright, let's have a look at this shall we?" Approaching the bomb carefully, Dee studied if from a short distance before moving closer to get a better look. The young woman had been expecting some sort of complicated electronic device, but instead, like so much else she had encountered thus far, found something that looked like a throwback to the late Nineteenth Century. The device was finely made, to be sure, but made of copper tubes, brass gears and springs, complete with simple sticks of dynamite, as opposed to Semtex, C-4 or some other plastic explosive. After a few moments of studying the device, Dee pulled out a multitool from a belt pouch. "Well Captain, whomever made this was quite the craftsmen, that is true, even if he is working with dated materials. But, I am pretty certain I can sort it." She set to work, several minutes dragging by as she carefully cut or removed select wires and springs. Eventually, Dee carefully removed the sticks of dynamite, handing them carefully to Singh to move elsewhere, then she removed the blasting caps that had been inserted in the dynamite as well. When she was done, she wiped some sweat from her forehead and face, holding the detonation device up to Singh. "Well, here you are, you can study it to your heart's content now so you might be able to get an idea how to deal with these things."
  16. Okay, as discussed in Chat, Synapse will disable the bomb, taking her time, so with her +18 disable device skill, she will succeed with a Take 20.
  17. APPROVED
  18. Yeah, Synapse gets a 31 on her Kn: Technology roll.

Though an attractive young woman, that attractiveness is somewhat diminished by her generally irritable disposition. Her shoulder length hair is black, with a few colored streaks (the color of which varies from time to time between green, blue, magenta, purple and orange), though her natural hair color is blonde. Dee typically dresses in dark jeans, with T-shirts (typically with a band logo or some political statement on them) and a black leather jacket. Dee has a number of piercings in each ear, as well as tongue and bellybutton piercings. She also has gotten a few tattoos over the years. One is a grouping of Chinese characters on her left shoulder blade. The other is of a black circle made of twisted thorn branches on her lower back. Power Descriptions: Synapse's Telekinesis, Forcefield, Mental Blast and Paralyze attack all involve a manifestation of red psychic energy that are readily visible. Her Mind Control and Telepathy, are considerably more subtle in nature, making them somewhat more difficult to detect by either the target or others with mental awareness super-senses. History: Dawn was born into an aristocratic family in the United Kingdom. Much of her early life was spent in either London, where her father serves on the House of Lords, or at her family's estate in Dorset, most often in the care of nannies hired by her parents to help raise her and her siblings. The family's head butler, Arthur Winston-Smythe was also a prominent figure in caring for the Farrington children, traveling between London and Dorset with the family. Growing up, Dawn and her twin sister Susan were inseparable, as one would expect of twins. Their older brother, Edward, was somewhat distant, but it did not matter much as they had each other, particularly when their parents began to send them off to expensive boarding schools. In his position in the House of Lords, Dawn's father worked closely with the Ministry of Powers and was a strong supporter of Taskforce UK. In particular, Lord Farrington was a close associate of the team's mentalist, Headcase. When the Ministry revived its Powers Project, Headcase convinced Lord Farrington to include Dawn and her twin sister Susan in the Psi Initiative, confident he could induce psychic powers in the two girls. The two girls were subjected to the process, with Headcase himself directly involved. Over the course of several weeks over the summer when the girls were eleven, they underwent the process. When it was over, both girls had gained mental powers. However, something had gone awry in Susan's case, the process causing damage to her psyche, driving the girl insane. Headcase was forced to subdue her, and drugs were used to suppress her powers. Dawn's parents had no choice but to commit Susan to a private mental hospital, where she could be provided the best around the clock care, and carefully kept be out of the public eye. In Dawn's case, the process was far more successful, as her psyche had not been harmed, at least by the psi initiative process. The fate of her sister, and her parents reaction in quietly tucking Susan away, served to create a rebellious attitude in Dawn (who began refusing to acknowledge that name, insisting on being called "Dee" instead), as she blamed her parents, and in particular her father, for what had happened to Susan. Always an extremely bright girl, Dee began to do everything she could to act out against her parents. In addition to generally being as difficult as she could, Dee began dying her hair; eventually got additional body piercings and tattoos; and otherwise generally acting as unladylike as possible. During the times she was home (either in Dorset or London), she would regularly sneak out at night, either going to concerts or nightclubs. Unbeknownst to her, during those late night outings, she was often followed by Arthur, the family's butler, who had for a time served as an agent in MI6, as he did his best to keep her from coming to harm. Her behavior carried over to the boarding schools her parents sent her off to, including incidents such as mixing together a chemical formula to generate massive amounts of smoke in chemistry class (and thus causing an evacuation of the building) to repeated violations of school curfew and other rules. Among the prestigious boarding schools she got herself kicked out of were Brighton College, Queen Ethelburga's College (York), Wycombe Abbey, and Cheltenham Ladies' College. As much as Dee hated her parents, she despised Headcase even more. Unfortunately, over the years she was required to have regular meetings with the mentalist, as he helped her learn to use and control her ever strengthening powers. Despite her rebellious behavior and expulsion from several boarding schools, Dee eventually attended Oxford University. Dee's rebelliousness subsided somewhat, in large part due to the fact that the university was far less restrictive than her boarding schools, and the fact she wanted to be there. While she still enjoyed having a good time, she had little trouble maintain excellent marks. It was early during her time at Oxford that Headcase took Dee (despite her protests) to meet the other members of Vanguard. Unlike so many others, she was not overly impressed with Champion. Certainly he was powerful, but to her, he was just a figurehead for the status quo. Y Dderwen was rather inscrutable, and the young woman did not quite know what to make of him. Lucy on the other hand, she found to be rather cool, even if the older heroine was working with the government. After finishing her degree, Dee ignored her father's attempts to steer her towards going into research work with corporations at which he had connections or for the government. Instead, the young woman joined a human rights group and left England to spend a year teaching and working on aid projects in Africa. It was only a little over a month ago that Dee returned from her time in Africa. Personality & Motivation: As a first impression, Dee generally comes off as rather irritable, though she can be generally pleasant as long as someone does not do anything to aggravate her. Unfortunately, it is not that difficult to aggravate her. For the most part, Dee is happiest when she is left alone to do what she wants. In addition to a rebellious streak, Dee is also something of a thrill seeker, one who loves racing motorcycles, or extreme snowboarding. Although there is a great deal of anger, and even hatred, directed at her parents (and to a lesser degree, her older brother), there is still a part of Dee that cares about them, though she is extremely reluctant to show it. Being a superheroine has never been anything Dee has strived for, particularly if it meant working with the Ministry of Powers. However, she reluctantly realizes that despite what she might feel about the government in general, and the Ministry of Powers in particular, choosing not to do anything could well lead to innocents being hurt. Powers & Tactics: Thus far, Dee has had little in the way of combat experience, and thus has not developed any particular tactics relating to her powers. She has learned to use her telekinesis to protect herself with a forcefield, and will almost always put up the forcefield if she gets into combat. She also has generally sought to avoid using her powers in general. However, she learned to control her powers as they grew in strength over the years, in order to avoid them accidently going out of control. Complications: Twin Sister: Susan is still perhaps the single most important thing in Dee's life and the young woman is determined to take care of Susan the rest of her life. Dee hopes that someday she might be able to find a way to repair Susan's psyche and restore her sanity. The "bad girl": A number of tabloids have carried pictures of Dee over the years (and some of her wild antics), so she has developed at least a small amount of fame (or infamy, depending on who you ask) as a result. There has to be a story here: Besides the general tabloid attention Dee occasionally gets, one investigative reporter, Billy Bunting, has heard some rumors about the Ministry of Powers having some sort of psychic powers program, and that it might be somehow connected to the Farrington family. He is determined to find out if there is anything to these rumors. Another reason to hate that guy!: For some reason, whether by accident or specific design, Headcase's tinkering with Dee's mind to induce her powers has left her particularly vulnerable to his abilities. If targeted by Headcase's powers, Dee automatically fails her saving throw for a HP. 20. Dee's jaw clinched slightly at Singh's comment about her "feminine constitution," keeping her from making a quick retort. With Bob badly injured and needing medical help, the last thing she needed to do was anger someone that was willing to help them right now and knew where they needed to go. Instead she focused on his answer to her question, the year and other information confirming they had not somehow slipped back in time, but to somewhere else entirely, even if this place seemed rather anachronistic. The Englishwoman then turned her attention to Ulysses when he returned, noting the steam that the man seemed to be creating in his wake, much like a steam engine. He certainly seemed to be better off than Bob was, despite having apparently been caught in two full on explosions, but he was still slightly injured, a sure sign that they were dealing with some powerful explosives. When Singh brought up the issue of which way she wanted to go to get Bob to the hospital, Dee pointed in the direction Ulysses had gone. "The shortest trip." She stated. "At least some of the hazards should be clear now, and I would like to get a look at this unexploded bomb along the way as well."
  21. "No, no, not my servant, just a gentleman that, like me, happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time." Dee replied quickly as Singh called Bob her manservant, which was met with understandable indignation by the restaurant owner. Her mind meanwhile, was racing, considering the information Singh had provided regarding the nearest hospitals, and the dangers that were likely lying in wait towards the closest. She added in the information regarding the problems with this mystery bomber when the other man who had been transported here questioned Singh about them. But before she could comment on the man's suggestion of trial and error in looking for any of the bombs, he was off, moving as fast as a car at top speed, if not a bit faster. This had the young Englishwoman's eyes narrow a moment in thought as she considered the fact that two out of the three that had been transported here (or at least it seemed like it was only two of the three) were Powers. While it could merely be coincidence, she had a nagging feeling that it was not. While Ulysses was away, Dee turned to the task of getting a stretcher put together for Bob, directing some of the workers, in Hindi, in helping her with the task. She removed her mask, the heat making it rather uncomfortable, and given what she now suspected, she rather doubted she had to worry about her identity here. She glanced off in the direction Ulysses had gone when there was the sound of distant explosions, somewhat worried about the older man, but knew there was little she could do for the moment. While they waited for his return, she looked over to Singh. "So Captain, I know this may seem like an odd question, but what year is it?"
  22. GM "Excellent!" Stated Zandar as the last of the gathered students made their promise. "Do not fear, I would be a poor host if I did not allow for you to take some small souvenirs from your visit." He stated with a smile to Cho and the others. "Now let us be off, so that you may truly experience the wonders of this world!" The Jungle Lord then added as he returned the spear to his back and started off towards the jungle below. The jungle quickly proved to be even larger than it had appeared from their initial vantage point, with thick trees that towered far above them. Sections of the ground below were thick with underbrush, and as they first entered, a number of small dinosaurs walking on two legs, no more than two feet tall, scattered into foliage ahead of them. But they had only gone a short distance before Zandar led them up a rope ladder fixed along one of the massive tries and up to a series of narrow rope and wooden bridges and walkways that soared dozens of feet above the jungle floor. It was across this raised path that the Jungle Lord and his daughter led the five teenagers. The air was heavy with humidity, and the scent of plants and flowers that no longer existed anywhere on Earth. With steady regularity, the cries or shrieks of what sounded like various small animals would echo through the trees, occasionally overpowered by the distant sound of some larger creature. The raised path proved to be a rather quick method of travel, even if some of the longer rope bridges between massive trees swayed somewhat ominously, allowing the group to bypass the tangled underbrush and possibly dangerous fauna below. After more than half an hour of such travel, Lord Zandar stopped the group on a walkway around a massive tree near a section of the jungle where a large stream passed through. Gathered around the stream, as close as fifty yards away, two small groups of dinosaurs were drinking from the stream. One group was a pair of four legged dinosaurs with a ridge of large plates along its back and a tail covered with spikes. One of the two was clearly younger, not quite half the size of the larger, which looked to be at least thirty feet long. The other group was three full sized dinosaurs, all at least thirty feet long, with longer back legs and smaller forelegs, and with brightly colored crests on their heads.
  23. A few lose chunks of concrete fell from the edges of the hole created by the Battle Brothers' exit. There were still a couple of the fighters that had been in the fight on their feet, but with the two superpowered thugs gone and all the mobsters in the cheap suits unconscious, the fighters showed no signs of wanting to continue. Diaz brushed off a bit of dust from his shoulder before looking over at the other three gathered in the hallway. "Wow, that was some serious skills." He stated with a look of amazement. "What are you three doing here looking for me anyway?"
  24. While Dee smirked slightly at Singh's comment that he had at first mistook her for a man, that slight irritation was quickly pushed aside and replaced by his comment about women being the "fairer sex" and have "fragile dispositions." Who the bloody hell talks like that/ The Englishwoman thought to herself with a growing feeling that wherever they had ended up, she was not going to like it. She quickly waived the workers he had tasked with dusting off her face. "Thank you, but I can dust myself off just fine." She commented, taking a rag from one of the men to do the task herself. She bit back any further retort, as for the moment she did not want to anger Singh, particularly as Bob was in need of medical attention. "We did not come off completely unharmed Captain." She then stated, standing aside slightly to gesture towards the other two. "One of the gentlemen with me has been hurt. For the moment he is in no danger, but he needs to get to a doctor as soon as possible."
  25. At Foreshadow's mental response, Dee had satisfied herself that he really was the costumed crimefighter, so she withdrew from the deeper layer of his surface thoughts, instead keeping in place for the moment only the mental connection that would allow them to "talk" with one another. But before she could make any further response, Foreshadow's vision came to fruition, as a large Russian barged in, quickly focusing on Edward with a threat. And then Foreshadow just as quickly acted, taking the near mountain of muscle down with almost shocking ease. Dee watched the man crumple to the floor then glanced over at her brother. "Really Edward, you have not been making some wagers on some of the events with shady Russians have you?" At Foreshadow's mental mention of a name, the young woman replied back, who the bloody hell is Bronski?
