  1. "Waking up sore is an occupational hazard." The attractive speedster said with a smile. "And your welcome, I wish I could have gotten here a bit quicker, but it all worked out in the end." "My names Velocity, by the way." She added as she looked over towards Bonebreaker, the sounds of the sirens growing louder. "Yeah, they do need extra care for their trip to Blackstone. Hopefully some of the witnesses that called 911 let the police know there were metas involved and STAR is on the way, they should have the equipment to keep them under control." "Otherwise we could be waiting awhile to be sure these two get properly wrapped up. And I hate waiting." She added with a small grin.
  2. Though her goggles allowed her to see everything going on around her, Velocity still looked up to watch Voltage blast Mindfire once again. Only this time it was with a much more powerful bolt of lightning, which seemed to strike the redheaded villainess perfectly as it knocked her back and through a wall. Though she could not see the villainess, Voltage's composure pretty much told Velocity that she was likely unconscious as well. "Nice job." She called out to the flying hero. "You okay? You took a number of hits from these two." Off in the distance, they could hear the faint sound of approaching police cars.
  3. So I believe you are at a DC 34 for the attack. Mindfire fails her toughness save in similar spectacluar fashion with a 15. There would be a lot of knockback, but she will hit the side of a building before going too far. She smashes through the wall, and lands in the room inside. Out cold.
  4. Managing to shake off the searing touch of Mindfire's mental powers, Velocity glanced up at Voltage, who seemed to be slightly hurt from the shockwave. She then focused back on the redheaded villainess. "That's it? Please, I have been more afraid helping rescue cats stuck in trees. They have sharp claws you know." "Voltage, I think we were doing better when this fight was a boy/girl dance." She yells out, then she is off in a blur of motion, streaking towards Bonecrusher, who's attention was still focused up on Voltage, a satisfied grin on his face. Once again the yellow clad speedster focused on putting a bit more behind the punch. She also took advantage of Bonecrusher's focus on Voltage, aiming her fist right at the side of his jaw. A loud *CRACK* once again sounded in the air from the supersonic punch, this time accompanied by an even louder *WHACK* from the impact of the blow, which rattled nearby shop windows. Bonecrucher's head was thrown back even more violently than the last punch, and this time he was not just knocked back a few feet. Instead he sailed to the opposite side of the street, and probably would have kept going, if he had not hit a parked car. The side of the car crumpled inward from the impact, but otherwise stopped the villain's momentum and he fell to the pavement in a heap. Velocity had been about to continue on after delivering the attack, but seeing the results, she instead came to a stop, blowing across the back of her knuckles as she looked over toward where Bonecrusher lay unconscious. "Now, who hits like a girl?"
  5. Velocity gets a critical hit on Bonebreaker with a 31. (she was Power Attacking for +15 damage again), she will take the +5 more to her damage. Bonebreaker Toughness save vs DC 35, and he gets a 16, so he is out, cold. Toughness save for the car he hits when knocked back (vs DC 23) is a 15
  6. Status at beginning of Round Five: Velocity 55 (2 Hero Points) Voltage 16 (3 bruise, 3 Hero Points) Mindfire 12 (2 bruise) Bonebreaker 9 (1 bruise)
  7. GM Mindfire looked down at the yellow clad speedster as she heard the faint *cracks* of the ball bearings zipping by at supersonic speeds. As the other hero had turned his attention to Bonebeaker for the moment, apparently to little effect, the psionic decided she could focus on the other woman for a moment. A cruel grin came to the redhead's face as she called out, "You will have to do much better than that. Not that I plan to give you the chance." "Let's see what sorts of fears are in that pretty little head of yours shall we?" The redhead reached out with a hand that flared with ghostly psionic flames. Similar ghostly flames formed around Velocity's head and the speedster felt the burning touch of her mental abilities in her mind. But somehow the speedster managed to push Mindfire out. After shaking off Voltage's attack, Bonebreaker climbed to his feet. Looking up at the flying hero, the large man grinned slightly. "Nice try kid." He yelled out. "Try this on for size!" With that, he swung his two large hands together out in front of him, a loud *WHACK* echoing down the street as a powerful shockwave rippled through the air towards Voltage, shattering windows in a nearby building as it went. Unable to get out of the path of the shockwave, Voltage felt it slam into him, but his forcefield again managed to take the brunt of the attack.
  8. Velocity makes her Will save vs Mindfire’s Bug Room (fear) power with a 27
  9. TK, getting slightly ahead of myself, but figured I would ask while I can. Bonebreaker is going to use his shockwave attack (110' range cone) against Voltage. Voltage gets a DC 21 Reflex save to take half damage. If you make the save, the Toughness save is DC 20, otherwise it is a DC 26 Toughness save. I will post sometime when I get home, Mindfire will be targeting Velocity this round.
  10. Bonebreaker just makes his save with a 22
  11. The cab driver pulled back into traffic after Kyle had indicated their destination. Dave's phone rings a couple of times before he picked up. "Well, you have not missed much so far." Dave replied after Kyle explained what was going on. "Things are pretty slow at the moment, people still making their way into the convention and such. The big ticket authors won't be start showing up until around lunch time. I will start moving over near the main entrance to wait for you." Kyle's cab ride was relatively short, taking about ten minutes, which was mainly due to traffic. After paying the cabbie (and being sure to get a receipt for his expense report), Kyle made his way into the convention center. He did not have to look far before he saw signs indicating the way to the book convention. A short walk later, he was making his way through the main entrance to the exhibit hall, his press pass getting him through without having to pay admission. Once inside, he had little trouble spotting Dave, who was standing off to one side, his camera around his neck and a camera bag over one shoulder.
  12. "I believe it has been some time since I have had the opportunity to dance with such a distinguished gentleman." Megan replied with a small smile as she took Lord Lockwood's offered hand, placing her other on his shoulder as they stepped out to join the other pairs gliding across the dance floor. Megan's movements matched the time of the music almost instantly, her years of dance lessons and practice, not to mention her superhuman reflexes, making it almost second nature. "Why thank you." Megan replied with a wide smile. "I would hate to think my parents wasted their money for all those dance lessons. And the Society's events have certainly provided the opportunity to stay in practice over the years. Your lordship certainly does not disappoint." Megan gave a small laugh as they continued to glide around the ballroom. "That is certainly something of a broad question. But I grew up in North Bay. My father, Donald Howell, is a senior partner at the law firm Hartford, Grayson & Cole here in town. My mother, Erin Howell, is on board or otherwise involved with a number of different charitable foundations around the city. As for me, after the New Year I will be starting my final semester for my undergraduate degree in economics at Yale, though a majority of my workload will be an internship with Summit Transnational Group here in Freedom City. Last academic year I had the opportunity to spend the year studying at Cambridge." "As for where I am going, that is a much harder question to answer. I still have not made any firm plans for what I intend to do once I finish my degree." Megan continued. "I may consider staying in private equity, possibly with Summit or another similar firm. I have also thought about possibly following in my mother's footsteps so to speak and go work for a charitable non-profit. And then of course there is always the question of whether I might want to continue on for a graduate degree." "But I must say, while I certainly have heard about your activities since you arrived in Freedom City, there is great deal of mystery around you." Megan added with a small grin. "Not many seem to know, or been able to discover, much about your past."
  13. Jacobs had taken a seat behind his desk, almost lost behind the stacks of papers piled up on top of it. "I have an assignment for you." He said as he glanced at his computer screen for a moment, checking to see if there were any urgent emails he needed to attend to immediately. "There is a book expo and convention being held today at the convention center down near the Waterfront. Normally Susie Waller," Kyle recognized the name as the Ledger's regular literature columnist and book reviewer, "would handle this, but she is on bed rest after breaking her leg while skiing over the weekend. So I need you there like twenty minutes ago. One of our freelance photographers, Dave Newman is already there, so you will have to meet up with him. Just mingle and check out the scene. Try to talk to some of the authors and publishers there and maybe some of the fans that always seem to come dressed as wizards or vampires or whatever is big these days and see what you can come up with." Jacobs looked up from his computer screen and over at Kyle. "I know this is not exactly the type of story you would prefer to work on, but we need to have someone cover this, and you’re here. We will make it up to you. Rick," Kyle recognized the name of the sports editor, "is going to have you cover the Rayguns' game with the Celtics Thursday night."
  14. The OOC for this thread.
  15. January 14, 2013 9:21 AM Monday morning at the Freedom Ledger meant the weekly meeting for the editors and staff reports of the paper. Of course, Kyle Conners currently worked as a freelance reporter, but he often found it useful to be around the office when the meeting got out. It certainly never hurt to be seen from time to time and being around after the staff meeting could lead to an assignment or two as the stories that still needed to be covered were fresh in the minds of the editors. Like anyone else with a busy schedule, if they saw someone they knew to be looking for work, the chances were good they would not look any further. While Kyle waited for the meeting to end, he was working with one of the production staff on the layout of a story he finished over the weekend. One of the graphic artists was still finishing up on a couple of graphs that would accompany the story, so the earliest the story would likely run would be the Tuesday morning edition. A sudden increase in volume in the large, open newsroom was a likely indication that the meeting was over. Glancing away from the computer screen and looking over towards the conference room, Kyle could see the staff reporters and editors all filing out, most heading off towards their desks or to get more coffee, some others stopping to talk in groups of two or three. One of the editors, Carl Jacobs, was making his way along the isles of the newsroom towards his office. As he went, he glanced over to see Kyle. "Conners." He called out. "In my office."
  16. As Megan and Lord Lockwood started away from the others, she let out a small smile as conversation once again turned to "fast" expensive cars. She would have suggested the vacation in the Maldives, but then, not everyone could outrun any of the cars being discussed. The young blonde guided Lord Lockwood in the direction of the ballroom, avoiding most of the clusters of people that might delay them. As they drew closer, the sounds of ballroom music was just discernible over the conversations. Soon, the pair had reached two large double doors which were currently open, the room beyond a large, open ballroom, around which dozens of pairs were currently gliding to the rhythm of the waltz that was currently. "I trust this will fit the bill your lordship?" Megan stated as they made their way inside.
  17. As we discussed in chat, I am interested with Tsunami :)
  18. I did add some discription to the power indicating it was a trip effect triggering a Reflex save. Also added it to her DC Block at the bottom of the character sheet. :)
  19. So, after Velocity ran down the wall, her array was switched to Sonic Boom. They get a DC 23 Reflex save. They fail, DC 28 toughness save, if they make it, it is only a DC 21 toughness save (unless they have Evasion or Evasion 2)
  20. Velocity watched the scene below for a few seconds, not liking the look of those weapons the bikers were carrying. She had after all, already seen what a stray blast from one of those could do. She saw the arrival of the new Bee-Keeper, whom she had read about (it was a not too hard to keep up on things when one could read at superspeed), and saw another speedster on the scene, Jubatus, she believed his name was. But the bikers did not seem impressed, in fact, they appeared ready to continue their assault, including the two heroes as targets now as well. They should have taken the hint. She thought to herself as she noted a pair of bikers that were away from the two heroes, but close enough that she could catch them both in a sonic boom. In a blur, she was off, running down the side of the building she was on and down onto the street, in a split second, she had crossed the space between her and the target point where she could catch the two bikers. As she approached, she accelerated herself to supersonic speed, cutting through the sound barrier to generate a shockwave. There was an audible *CRACK* in the air, followed almost immediately by an even louder *BOOM* which echoed down the block as a shockwave went out in all directions. Velocity was already at the next intersection, skidding to a halt as she looked back to see the results.
  21. Thanks for the comments Supercape. Fluff stuff: I can understand your view on some of her complications, but she does not have any issue with Dr. Sin or any of his other lieutenants (not any more than any other hero that is). Certainly Dr. Sin is the linking factor in those complications, but they represent why different individuals/groups might come after Giang, and for different reasons. I can probably think about some more complications to add, though, I still haven’t come up with any really good new ones for Velocity yet. The thought about having her need water, I did consider this as a complication. But as I reworked things regarding her background and thought more about her powers (and those of her half-siblings), I decided against it. She certainly needs water for her Water Control base power (as she can currently control up to 50 tons of water), but I did not think that was worth a complication. I’ll think about it a bit more and maybe say she needs at least a tiny bit of water to serve as the medium for using her other powers. I will add a bit more descriptions of some of her powers. Currently, only Water Control is subtle (as it is just Move Object by another name (with a limitation of only water) and that power is explicitly NOT subtle (ie involving things like big glowing hands or something that is very apparent that something is moving the object)). The forcefield is indeed a swirling sheen of water that surrounds her (not subtle at all). I will work on the “solid†water as well. Crunch stuff: Not sure how I missed correcting the Attribute total up top, I will fix that. I will take out the Equipment line. I will fix the Water Control coding stuff, and, Water Control is actually the base power of the array, not Friction Control, and I will work on the array to make that more clear. As for Friction Control, it is the power by the same name. How it works for her, she covers the area in question with a slippery sheen of water, and anyone inside the area must make a Reflex save of be tripped as described in the Friction Control power. I have made all the crunch corrections, and many of the fluff ones.
  22. Velocity watched Mindfire take off into the air and then hit Voltage with some sort of telekinetic attack. While the attack looked like it hurt, Voltage still seemed very much in the fight. The big guy seemed to be recovering as well, but for the moment he was on the ground and a good fifty feet away. Velocity looked back up at Mindfire as her hand went towards one of the pouches on her belt in a movement most would not be able to follow. Taking a small handful of steel ball bearings from the pouch, she then brought her hand up to rapidly launch the projectiles at the flying supervillainess at supersonic speeds. However, her aim was a bit off, and the supersonic projectiles miss their intended target.
  23. As mentioned in chat, Voltage picks up another bruise, but otherwise is fine. Round Four Velocity 55 (2 Hero Points) Voltage 16 (2 bruise, 4 Hero Points) Mindfire 12 (2 bruise) Bonebreaker 9 (1 bruise, recovers from daze just before Velocity acts) Velocity's attack roll against Mindfire is a 16, so she misses as well. Voltage is up.
  24. TK, Voltage needs to make a DC 26 toughness save from Mindfire's telekentic "punch."
  25. GM As Mindfire managed to sidestep the latest blast from Voltage, she glanced over to see Bonebraker on the ground and trying to recover. Glancing over to where Velocity had moved, she hissed at the yellow clad speedster. "I will deal with you in a moment." With that, her flaming wings reappeared, carrying her up into the air, and out of the reach of the speedster. Focusing back on Voltage, her eyes flared once again. This time, instead of his mind, the flying hero saw the ghostly flame form in front of him before slamming into him, with a considerable amount of force. Down on the ground, Bonebreaker had pushed himself up into a sitting position, and was still trying to clear his head.
