  1. Velocity gets a 64 for initiative. I don't think I was clear enough in my last post AA, what I meant is that the Extended sight provided by Velocity's goggles helped her scanning the scene below.
  2. Below is a picture showing Giang's tattoos. Not quite the best job on the Chinese characters, but the best I could do with MS Paint.
  3. While Megan might normally be one to defend various modern styles of dancing, she chose not to challenge the idea that they lacked class. Instead, she gave Lord Lockwood a wide smile as she wrapped an arm around his offered elbow. "That will not be a problem. I made sure to get some ballroom dancing practice in earlier this week." Glancing over to the others, she kept the warm smile on her face. "Kristin, it has been wonderful meeting you." She said, addressing the teenager first. "Jen," she continued looking over to the slightly younger woman, "it was great seeing you again. We should have lunch soon." The young blonde then looked over towards Angus and Amir. "Angus, it was delightful, I look forward to having a chance to come and see your studio. Mr. al-Misri, as always it has been a pleasure. I am sure we will be seeing each other again after the New Year."
  4. This character would be my second character slot, bumped up to PL 10 (as Velocity has earned enough Power Points for the Bronze award).
  5. Tsunami Power Level: 12/15 (237/250 PP) [256] Trade-Offs: Unarmed: -3 damage/+3 attack; Cone of Water: -2 damage/+2 attack Unspent Power Points: 13 In Brief: Asian water controller on the run from her criminal family. Alternate Identity: Giang Trang; Xian Lou Khan Identity: Secret Birthplace: Unknown Occupation: Governess Affiliations: Claremont Academy Alums, Unofficial Seafaring Heroes coalition (Glamazon & Temperance); Socotra Royal Family Family: Kong Zi Khan (father); Murjana al-Darsha (mother); four half-siblings; Nina al-Darsah (Monsoon, Aunt) Age: 27 (DOB: 10/4/1995) Apparent Age: 22 Gender: Female Height: 5' 3" Weight: 102 lbs Eyes: Light Brown Hair: Black Giang has a light build and is very petite, standing about 5' 3" and weighing a little over a hundred pounds. She has shoulder length black hair that is usually worn in a ponytail and light brown eyes. She has a somewhat youthful beauty. Growing up in Vietnam, she wore rather plain clothing. Since being relocated to Freedom City, she has been provided more typical American teen clothing, though she tends to stick with nondescript and functional attire. She has not yet selected a costume for superheroics. Though not regularly visible, Giang has a series of >tattoos that cover much of her upper back. In the center is the I Ching trigram for water, Kan. Four pinyin characters are arranged around the trigram. Directly above the trigram is Shui, the pinyin character for Water. To the left and right are the pinyin characters for the two Celestial stems associated with Shui, ren and gui. Directly below the trigram is the pinyin character for Xuan Wu, the Black Tortoise, the Celestial creature associated with Shui. Arranged around these central tattoos are the seven pinyin characters for the seven “mansions†(or Chinese constellations) associated with Xuan Wu. Giang has had these tattoos for as long as she can remember, and they have remained clear and precise as if they were freshly applied. Power Descriptions: Giang has the ability to control water. In addition to being able to move up to 50 tons of water, she can project powerful blasts of water, create objects of "solid" water and even dehydrate people by removing water from their bodies. She is also able to breathe underwater and survive the cold and extreme pressure of the ocean depths. Water Control Giang's ability to control water is subtle, only visible to those with Magic or Mental supersenses. Forcefield Giang's forcefield is a shimmering sheen of water that covers her. Friction Control Giang covers an area in a sheen of very slippery water. Create Object (solid water) Giang is able to create objects formed from water. The objects are very clearly made of water, but they are solid enough to stand or sit on, and touching them does not disturb their smooth surface. History: Giang grew up in a small remote village on the banks of the Dan river in the northern part of Vietnam, though she often felt that she and her parents were somewhat out of place in the village. While most of the villagers' lives involved the constant toil of farming, her parents did not seem to do any work, and had a much larger home than the rest of the village. In addition, while she learned to speak Vietnamese, along with English and Cantonese, the primary language spoken in her family's home was Mandarin. Giang's parents kept her generally isolated from the other children in the village. Instead, her life was a regimented series of private lessons and training. In addition to her language training, she studied the works of Sun Tuz, the history of China and Southeast Asia (with particular focus on the history and tactics of Genghis Khan), as well as the teachings of Confucius, Buddhism and Taoism. She received martial arts training in Vovinam (the national martial art of Vietnam) and Wushu. When her abilities to control water emerged during adolescence, her training helped to provide her focus and control of her powers. Shortly after her seventeenth birthday, Giang's parents took her out of the village, and Vietnam, for the first time. They traveled to Hong Kong, where Giang was introduced to a man who claimed to be her true father, Kong Zi Khan. Kong Zi told her that their family were descendants of Genghis Khan, settling in China during the Yuan Dynasty established by Kublai Khan. After the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the family's fortunes had waxed and waned, at times they were advisors to emperors, at others outcasts and members of the criminal underworld. In the early part of the twentieth century, her great-grandfather had been the head of a major criminal organization in southern China. When Dr. Sin began his rise to power, Yu Qian Khan choose to voluntarily join the Doctor's organization, becoming one of his chief lieutenants. The family's service to Dr. Sin continued over the next ninety years. However, the family never forgot their own aspirations or desire for power. Kong Zi informed Giang that she was part of the family's plans to recover its former glory. Giang and her four older half-siblings represented the five phases (or elements) of the Wu Xing: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Now that Giang was old enough to join her half-siblings, together they would be a formidable force to advance the family’s ambitions. Giang, or Xian Lou Khan as Kong Zi addressed her, was shocked by these revelations. Not only had she learned that the Trangs were not her parents, instead merely Kong Zi's operatives tasked with raising her, but her "father's" ambitions and goals were counter to much of what the teenager had internalized during her years of training. While she knew she should respect her elders, she did not want to be part of any plans for conquest or criminal activity. Initially playing the role of the submissive daughter, Giang was soon able to escape from Kong Zi. She managed to stow away aboard a cargo ship bound for Singapore, where she managed to survive on the streets for a number of weeks. Eventually, some of Kong Zi's other operatives caught up with her. Giang attempted to escape again, and fortunately, Raven intervened helping to defeat Kong Zi's men. After hearing Giang's story, Raven was suspicious, not entirely certain this was not part of some plot by Dr. Sin. However, Raven ultimately decided she could not just leave the teenager to survive on her own and took Giang back to Freedom City with her. While neither Raven nor Headmaster Summers fully trust Giang, they placed her at Claremont to give her a chance to prove herself, and allow them to keep a close eye on her. Personality & Motivation: Giang generally projects a calm and thoughtful demeanor. Years of meditation and study have taught her to be centered and focused. She seeks to follow the main principle of Vovinam, expressed by the common salutation for its students: “Iron Hand over benevolent heart,†striving to better herself and her control of her powers in order to not only help herself, but also be able to help others live in peace and harmony. Powers & Tactics: Giang often concentrates on fighting defensively initially, providing her an opportunity to study the situation. She will then use her various powers as appropriate to the circumstances. Complications: Family Legacy: Giang's family has a long history as part of the Asian criminal underworld. There are many who could be aware of some of her family's activities, or alleged activities, and be hesitant to trust her because of that. Wayward Daughter: Giang has rejected and fled from her father and family. They would very much like to find her and attempt to bring her back into the fold. It is Just Business: Dr. Sin has often allowed some degree of in-fighting between his key lieutenants, both to help keep them from plotting against him and to weed out those unworthy to serve him. As such, some of the Dr's other lieutenants could see capturing Giang as a way to gain leverage against her father, or a way to weaken him if they were to kill her. The Doctor is in: There is always the possibility that Dr. Sin might take an interest in Giang, either to determine what her father has been up to, or for reasons entirely his own. 6. While Megan was certainly no expert on the British Aristocracy, dating Robert while in England had afforded her the opportunity to attend a number of events that predominantly involved members of the aristocracy, including one at Buckingham Palace. She could not recall anyone with behavior, let alone dress, quite as . . . "antiquated" as Lord Lockwood's, but she still could not help but smile, particularly given his flattery. "Well, the champagne is good." She replied. "But I can think of a much more enjoyable way to 'bask' in my radiance. I was planning to head to the ballroom for some dancing soon, and now seems like a perfectly good time to do so. Would his Lordship be interested in joining me?"
  7. "Oh please." Velocity replied with a small smile. "I think your ego is a bit too big for even shoulders as broad as yours." With that, the yellow clad speedster launched another punch at the large man, another *CRACK* sounding in the air as her hand broke the sound barrier. This time, Velocity focused on applying a bit more of the speed to the force of the blow. Once again her blindingly fast fist connected, this time right under Bonebreaker's jaw. His head was snapped back from the force of the blow, and he was sent flying back five feet, landing on the pavement, which cracked slightly under the impact. He pushed himself back upright slightly and shook his head to try to get his bearings back. The yellow clad speedster was already gone, moving away in a blur and coming to a halt on the opposite side of the intersection, generally behind Mindfire.
  8. Beginning Round 3: Velocity acts on 55 (2 Hero Points) Voltage acts on 16 (1 bruise, 4 Hero Points) Mindfire acts on 12 (2 bruise conditions) Bonebraker acts on 9 Velocity’s attack, with +2 dam/-2 attack from Power Attack = 22. Bonebreaker’s toughness save vs DC 30 = 25. So he takes a bruise and is dazed and knocked back 5 feet.
  9. TK, I found this post by Kenson regarding how bruises affect other saving throws against damage. I probably looked this up sometime in the past to get the reading I had on the issue. But, in the interest of keeping things moving forward, we will go with Voltage making his save against the attack. Bonebreaker’s attack on Velocity is a 14.
  10. Yay, we've started! IC post up, Velocity's superspeed array is currently set on the alt power that includes Wall Running.
  11. Megan Howell normally avoided the Fens like the plague. But she was currently returning from an early morning meeting with some architects and contractors at a property that had been purchased by one of Amir al-Misri's charitable foundations in partnership with his equity company, Summit Transnational. Though Summit's realty group was not directly connected with the economics group Megan was interning with, she had been sent to observe the meeting under the guise of "learning more about what all Summit does." In the back of her mind, Megan wondered if it did not also have to do with the fact that her mother was heavily involved in a number of charitable foundations around the city. She was driving a nondescript rental car, as she had figured driving her BMW X-5 into the Fens was just asking for trouble. Of course, being a young, very attractive blonde in the Fens was likely asking for trouble as well, but there was less she could do about that. The meeting had gone well, and Megan hoped that Amir's plans to try to help revitalize some of the area succeeded. This was only her second full week at Summit, but so far, things were going very well. She was learning a lot and was working with great people. Outside of work, things were getting interesting as well. Last Friday she had gone out to dinner with Kyle at an Italian restaurant he had suggested. They had already made plans for another date, for which Megan had bought tickets to the Blues Brothers musical. Megan was pulled from her thoughts when an energy blast streaked across the intersection ahead of her, slamming into a light post and blasting it in half. Hitting the breaks, the young woman stared at the scene for a moment, now able to hear the distinct sound of gunfire from somewhere off to her left. Oh great. She thought as she looked around a moment. There was very little traffic in this part of the Fens at this time of morning, and the few people that had been on the street were running away from the commotion or otherwise seeking shelter. Pulling the car up into an open parking space along the sidewalk, Megan grabbed a small backpack she had inside and her purse and climbed through the passenger side to exit onto the sidewalk. Ducked behind the car a moment, she then stood up and ran into a nearby alleyway. Once inside, she accelerated to superspeed, zipping down the alleyway and up a wall onto a rooftop. In a blur of motion, she changed into her Velocity costume, and was then speeding back down the side of the building and into the street, the small backpack on her back. Moments later she was on another rooftop, overlooking the gun battle, taking a few moments to evaluate what was going on, the technology in her goggles helping considerably.
  12. Okay TK, Voltage needs to make a DC 25 Will save against Mindfire's attack.
  13. GM Voltage's bolt of lightning shot out and once again to strike the redheaded villainess. However, this time, her psychokinetic aura took the brunt of the shock, though she still jerked slightly from the blast. Climbing back to her feet, she looked up at flying grey haired hero. "You had better believe I am dangerous!" She called out, her eyes flaring with a ghostly flame as a similar effect covered her hands as she lifted them up before her. A similar ghostly flame formed around Voltage, as he felt a searing pain reaching for his mind, but he was able to resist Mindfire's mental attack. Back on the ground, Bonebreaker turned to regard Velocity, a faint smile coming to his face. "Nice punch, for a girl." He commented as he then leapt into the air, easily covering the distance between them. "But I think you're in over your head here." As he came down, he brought his large fist down towards the speedster in the similar attack as he had made against Voltage. However, Velocity easily sidestepped the attack, and the large man's fist only ended up smashing into the pavement where she had just been standing, sending chunks of pavement flying in several directions.
  14. Sigh a 15, want Mindfire’s first appearance to be a bit more exciting, so she will get a GM Fiat (and Voltage gets his hero point back) Much better, a 25, so only another bruise condition.
  15. After looping back around towards the direction of the electronics shop, Velocity spotted three costumed individuals. Given the amount of free time her powers tended to give her by reducing the time needed for studying, she generally was able to keep up to date on various superheroes and criminals active around the country. She recognized all three, though she actually could not recall reading too much about the hero, Voltage. Seeing Voltage take a powerful hit from the large guy, Bonebreaker, the speedster decided to try to help get some of the pressure off the other hero. Streaking towards the pair, she passed between them with a WOOSH of air and a streak of yellow. There was a faint *CRACK* as she delivered a punch at supersonic speed as she passed by. The punch hit Bonebreaker squarely on the left side of his jaw, but did little more than make him turn his head slightly to one side. The yellow clad speedster skidded to a halt a short distance from the pair. "Being big really only means your louder and easier to hit. So where's the challenge?" She quipped.
  16. Round Two: Veloicity gets a 55 for Initiative Voltage is on 16 (now with a bruised condition) Mindfire is on 12 (bruised, will recover from being dazed just prior to Voltage acting) Bonebreaker is on 9 Velocity's Gather Info checks (via Well Informed) Voltage 13, Mindfire 31, Bonebreaker 18 Velocity's attack roll on Bonebreaker 18 Bonebreaker's toughness save (vs DC 28) is 29
  17. GM Mindfire let out a cry of pain as Voltage's electrical bolt knocked her to the ground. She pushed herself back up to a sitting position, but otherwise appeared to be dazed for the moment. The large man, Bonebreaker as Voltage's internet research had determined, glanced back at the redhead for a moment before focusing back on the superhero. "Oh, big man huh? Attacking the girl first?" With a powerful leap, he closed the distance with Voltage, landing in front of the hero. "Afraid to take on someone bigger?" He asked as he swung a large fist down towards the hero. Unable to dodge in time, Voltage took the powerful hit, but managed to stay on his feet.
  18. Bonebreaker’s attack is a 27 Need a toughness save. (DC 29)
  19. Okay, some more info on Bonebreaker, sorry for the delay. Andrew Davis is a former professional football player who was banned after his rookie season for use of illegal enhancement drugs. With the help of good lawyers he managed to avoid any criminal conviction. He then disappeared for a couple of years, before reemerging as the supervillain Bonebreaker. He generally works as muscle for hire, and thus far has managed to avoid capture.
  20. "Well, I still have one more semester to go at Yale." Megan replied to Jen's question about her plans for after the New Year. "I just managed to maneuver things so that my internship will be most of the credits I need, but I have a couple of seminars as well, though I will mostly be able to attend them via teleconference. I will probably only have to head up to New Haven for a day or so ever few weeks." Megan smiled at Amir's continued antics, and Jen and Kristin's comments about him. It was then that Lord Steam made his grand entrance to the small group. Taking another glass of champagne from a passing waiter, the attractive blonde watched Angus' interaction with the newcomer, taking the few seconds before Angus made introductions of the group to try to recall what she might have heard about "Lord Lockwood." And a few seconds was a long, long time for Megan. "Very please to meet you Lord Lockwood." Megan stated after Angus' introduction. "I have heard a bit about your many recent business ventures, investing in not only the arts, but science and literature, with something of a focus on mechanical engineering companies, if I recall correctly. My mother has also mentioned the stir you have caused in the social circles in the city, as well as your very generous work as a philanthropist."
  21. Freedom City, New Jersey [6] The first light of morning was just beginning to appear in the sky over Freedom City when Megan zoomed back into her apartment in the Wading Way. She would have been back home sooner from Honolulu, but she had stopped for coffee and quick breakfast at an all-night dinner that was part of a truck stop in the Midwest. Once back in her apartment, the young woman dropped her backpack down on the coffee table in the living room, then she was off in a blur of motion. Removing her costume, she dropped it into the washing machine in the kitchen with the other costumes she had worn during her around the world trip. Starting the machine, she was then off to the bedroom. A moment later, the young blonde came to a halt at the foot of her king sized bed, wearing only a deep blue robe. "That was awesome!" Megan exclaimed out loud as she fell back onto the bed, her arms falling out to either side. She lay there for a few moments, looking up at the ceiling as complete exhaustion began to fully set in. She had been on the go for over twenty-six hours, had seen the New Year arrive in twenty four different places around the world, and run close to 62,000 miles in the process. Time to get some sleep. She thought as she forced herself to roll over and crawl further up the bed and under the covers, not bothering to take off her robe. And dream of gorgeous Brazilian guys, was her final thought before she drifted off to sleep.
  22. Honolulu, Hawaii [11] Megan was glad to be back into the warmer weather around Hawaii after the cold in Alaska. She was also looking forward to her last stop to see in the New Year. As she approached the island of Oahu, the young woman could not help but remember how she had started this New Year’s journey, just over twenty four hours ago. She thought about the group of friends she had met on Kiritimati, a little over 1,300 miles almost due South of Hawaii, wondering what they were doing. Probably sleeping after a long day of surfing. The young speedster thought with a small smile. It was still somewhat hard to believe that she had been at this for more than twenty four hours. She was certainly starting to feel tired and ready to head home to get some sleep. But she had planned this one last stop, and did not want to quite when she was so close to being done. After making landfall on Oahu, Megan quickly made her way towards Honolulu. Quite the opposite of Anchorage, Honolulu offered countless choices for where to stop for New Year's. But while there were certainly a number of posh nightclubs in the city, the nice weather and pleasant temperature left little reason not to choose an outdoor venue. So Megan had easily decided on Waikiki Beach. Megan arrived near the beach to find a large crowd gathered out on the sand and the streets along the beach. While not nearly as large as the crowds she had seen on the beaches in Rio or Valparaiso, it was still a lot of people. Once again, the sudden appearance of the yellow clad speedster attracted the attention of some of the revelers, and Megan soon found herself surrounded by a small crowd of people seeking autographs or wanting their picture taken with her. Though she was starting to really feel tired, Megan managed to keep a wide smile on her face as she went about signing and posing for pictures. Eventually the crowd seeking autographs and pictures died down, and Megan was able to make it out onto the beach and just mingle with the crowd. There were people dancing in a number of places to some live music. Others were just standing around in groups, talking and waiting for the arrival of midnight. Megan made her way along the beach for awhile, being stopped occasionally for more autographs or pictures. Not long after posing for another picture, Megan heard the various music around the beach stop, and people began to be focused towards the water where the fireworks show would be. Soon, the final countdown of the last ten seconds of 2012 began. Tired as she was, Megan was excited, this was her twenty fourth, and last, time greeting 2013. She joined the crowd in counting off the seconds, and they screamed the final (at least for another year) "HAPPY NEW YEAR" as loud as she could. Moments later, the fireworks display over the water began, the crowd cheering with each explosion. Megan stayed for the entire fireworks display, and as the echo of the last firework died away, the crowd began to disperse somewhat. Some stayed on the beach to continue dancing as some of the live performances resumed, but a majority of the crowd made their way off the beach, to return to some nightclub or some other destination. Beginning to feel very tired, Megan wasted little time before she was speeding off across the water to make her return trip to Freedom City.
  23. Fireworks at Waikiki Beach.
  24. Anchorage, Alaska [11] Megan had on her yellow micro-fleece once again as she approached the town of Anchorage. This stop had proven something of a challenge as well. Anchorage was really the only option in the time zone, but the real problem had been in finding a place to greet the New Year at midnight. The city annually hosted the Fire and Ice celebration, with ice skating, music and fireworks. But its fireworks display was held at 8 PM, not midnight, most likely because at midnight the temperature would be well below freezing, close to being in the single digits. So with options for outdoor celebrations, Megan had been left looking for something at a bar or nightclub. Given that Anchorage had a population of a little under 300,000, it did not have quite as many choices as she might have liked. But after a little looking Megan had found Mad Myrna's , a gay bar/nightclub in the city. The reviews Megan had read made it sound like it was a pretty fun place, she had had gay friends over the years (not the least of whom was Johnny Rocket), and been to a few gay clubs in the past, so she figured it seemed like a good choice. A few moments later, Megan was speeding through downtown Anchorage. The streets were rather deserted, so the speedster had little to worry about as she zipped towards her destination. In little time, she arrived at her destination. From the outside, Mad Myrna's did not look like much, but Megan could hear the faint base of music from inside. Well, I'm already here, and don't really want to look for an alternative. The speedster thought as she made her way over towards the nightclub. The interior of the club had a somewhat cramped feeling given its low ceilings. The first large room Megan entered had the main bar, some seating areas, and a number of pool tables. Music was playing in her from a jukebox, and there was an open doorway in the middle of the far wall, which lead to another room from which the sound of cheering and singing could be heard. The appearance of the yellow clad speedster drew a fair bit of attention in the first room, with people looking up from their drinks or pool games to regard her. Some of those in the room were pretty clearly part of the LGBT community, others it was not so easy to tell, and yet others were clearly not LGBT, but all were mixed together, and seemed to be having a good time. After a brief moment, several of those in the room came over to talk with the superheroine. "Your that speedy girl that was Johnny Rocket's sidekick right?" Asked a twenty-something man with a slightly affected tone. "Umm, well we were teammates for awhile." Megan replied with a warm smile. "Johnny and I got along great though." She then added. "We used to regularly compare notes on new hair products. Believe me, running around at supersonic speeds can really cause a mess of tangles and split ends." Megan received a few laughs in response as people began introducing themselves, a few asking for her autograph, and others just wanting to hear more about being a superhero and Johnny Rocket. Megan began answering the questions, politely turning down an offer for a drink but instead getting some bottled water. It was not long before the group of people led her into the next room, which was much darker than the first one. Inside Megan found one of nightclub's drag shows underway, with a very lively crowd of spectators. The performers were all dressed in rather outrageous costumes, and lip singing their chosen songs and very entertaining to watch. With everyone focused on the performances, not many noticed the speedster, and the few who did remained where there were for the show. When the show came to an end, another man in drag made his way on the stage, and began to lead the nightclub in the final countdown for the New Year. Megan joined in, though she could hardly hear herself over all the other voices in the room. Soon, everyone was crying out "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" as some were blowing party horns. The DJ played Auld Lang Syne, and people were hugging and some kissing. After the song ended and a few minutes of celebrating, the MC was able to get the crowd somewhat quitted down once more. It was then that he announced a special guest who would start off the karaoke and a spotlight shone on Megan. Megan reluctantly let herself be guided up onto the stage, taking the microphone from the MC. Singing certainly was not Megan's strong point, but she performed an at least bearable rendition of Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe. While not much of a singer, Megan was a great dancer, and she was able to make the performance more entertaining by dancing while she tried to sing. The crowd cheered at the end of her song, and Megan handed the microphone back to the MC as she made her way back off the stage to a number of people who had come forward to meet her. While the next person began their karaoke performance, Megan was signing some autographs and posing for pictures. But it was not long before she was able to just focus on listening to some of the other members of the crowd as they took the stage to perform a song, cheering them on along with the rest of the crowd. At about twenty minutes past midnight, the speedster started to make her way back towards the first room with the bar and pool tables to get on her way.
