"It's nice," Ren said, an atomic-level blush starting to work it's way onto his face. If she only knew how hot she looked to him right then... "A surprise?" He stood where he was told to and looked into the mirror intently. "What kind of surprise?"

Ren pulled back farther into the stall, trying to fold himself up as he heard the woman coming closer. Wasn't Lynn supposed to have sprung her little trap by now? Maybe she still wasn't in the right position. It better happen soon, he thought worriedly as Jawbreaker approached the door. I can't do much more than hope she bruises her fists while battering me into unconsciousness like this. Then he noticed the light above the stall, just hanging there, filled with hundreds of amps of electricity. On the other hand, maybe there is something I can do...

There is something you should know about Jawbreaker, Heritage: she's likely colored like one. She's named for the actual candy, (and the rather painful condition) so she'll fluctuate between reds, blues, and magentas. Maybe we should come up with a bizarre color now so we can make fun of it later.

Nanowire skidded in midair, reorienting himself so he could take another shot at the nimble little spidermech. His reactionless thrusters boosted him forwards and he brought a fist down on the machine.

Ren was about to nod when he noticed what Lynn had on. His mouth opened and his brow furrowed in thought. "Magician's assistant... Vegas showgirl... there's always plain old magical girl, but she's missing the bows," he muttered to himself, seemingly unaware he was broadcasting his inner monologue. Finally, he shrugged. "Alright, I give up. Who are you supposed to be?"

Deck her? Ren thought incredulously. Like this? I'm barely stronger than an average man right now. Although game with Lynn's plan, he wasn't sure if he could really do anything to help. Still, he did need to get away from the door, so he went back into the stall he had been in and stood atop the toilet, hiding his feet from a casual observer. He needed to get to some kind of machine to get his powers, and soon. Without them, he was just a tougher-than-average guy.

Ren raised an eyebrow at Sean's mostly unsuccessful attempt to pull him off the wall. "I'm heavier than I look," he explained, then pushed himself to a standing position. "And I'm getting less and less worried about paradoxes as we go on. I know just enough about parachronic theory to be dangerous, but assuming a lateral spacial curve along which time flows, our actions here should have had a far-reaching butterfly effect long ago." He looked out where Lynn was before and frowned when it appeared she was no longer there. "I don't know what she wants. We... well, we only met recently." Absurdly recently, he thought. "If she wants to stay, that's fine. I just don't know if I can do the same." "C'mon, let's go find my wayward 'girlfriend'," he said, walking into the front room and looking around for her.

"He didn't tell you," Renichi said in an awed tone. Then he chuckled without mirth. "Of course he didn't. For once, it's not him that's screwing up the future. It's me." Ren sagged against the wall behind him and rubbed his forehead with one hand. He didn't know if it was possible for him to have a headache anymore, but if he could, he'd soon be developing one. "Can't believe I screwed up like that," he muttered under his breath. "And the closest thing to a friend?" Ren took his hand away. There was a crooked smile on his face, as if he couldn't quite believe what he'd heard. "This is all academic now, because the future is screwed up beyond repair, but do you want to know how he and I met? We got in a fight." He shook his head. "Oh yeah, not an actual battle, just some juvenile slap fight. And he destroyed me." "Took me apart like that," Ren snapped his fingers, then shrugged. "Not exactly the best way to start a working relationship, but there you go. It's really sad that he..." Ren left off, then looked as if he was thinking about something. "Although I suppose he's my best friend too," he said softly. "God, how frigging pathetic is that?" Ren was quiet after that revelation, just standing with his back up against the wall.
