  1. Nanowire's shoulders drooped. There was no way they were getting out of this without a fight. Velocity had seen to that. He could almost respect the girl's obstinance if it wasn't currently directed towards putting him behind bars for better part of a decade. Grimalkin had done an admirable job trying to dissuade Velocity as well. His already-stellar opinion of Grim nudged up into the slot just below "Goddess" in his eyes. But ultimately, this wasn't going to be solved by words. Not that he could blame Velocity, either. If somebody had pulled what I did on me, I'd be pretty ticked too. "Stay back, alright?" he said to Grim, and then, "I'm sorry this had to happen." All of a sudden, Nanowire burst into action. Lifting up off the ground atop a bed of gravitic energy, he surged forward at better than a hundred miles an hour. If he positioned his strike right, he might just be able to knock Velocity down without harming her. From there, he'd likely have to hold onto her until she decided to calm down, but one thing at a time. Unfortunately for him, he didn't know what her emo-haired companion could do any more than he knew that Teke had placed an invisible wall in his path. With a terrific crash, Nanowire struck the barrier and rebounded like a crazily-thrown rubber ball. With his forward momentum halted so suddenly, Nanowire had no control as he flew back diagonally into the curb, crushing the front end of an unlucky Volkswagen sedan with far too many air fresheners draped around the rear view mirror. It took a few seconds for his vision to stop spinning. "What the hell was that?" he said, shaking his head to clear out the cobwebs.
  2. Nope. Take your Con Bonus, add 7, which is what Gaea is adding on, and add the results of a D20.

  5. Oh, my fight is not with Pitt senior, good sir. And I prefer to believe that Cussler senior is not to blame for the literary abortion I have devoted unhealthy amounts of time reading. If you will notice, Clive's son, which is where he undoubtedly got the name of his character from, (it's Dirk, in case you haven't been paying attention) is listed as co-author. Methinks the son got into daddy's writing supplies and snuck this 530 page triumph of crap out the back door while Clive was washing down his classic cars and thinking about how great it was that his halfwit of a son hadn't the brains to put pen to paper.

  8. Ah! A fellow comedian! We shall have to have a duel! Choose your weapon and venue! Knock-knock jokes at twenty paces? Or shall it be insightful cultural misunderstandings while tied at the wrists? Whatever it be, know that Veiled Malice, be he ever so humble, is up to the task! (Oh yeah, welcome and all that. )

  11. Nanowire's on the move. He's getting closer to the scene, coming from above. He's going to be closer to Vanguard than Sentinel. (That Sentinel guy's such a meanie! )

  14. Questionable organic moral decisions? Nanowire grumbled mentally. The fact that Sentinel had been able to clearly see him despite his distance and cover wasn't the first thing on his mind anymore. Instead, Nanowire felt vaguely insulted that he got passed over in preference of the other metallic man on the scene. So he participated in robbery. So he was involved as an enforcer in a drug deal. So... "Dammit, now I'm starting to depress myself..." Nanowire shook off his malaise. His cure was still present here, he could feel it. The problem was coming out of this as the winner. There were too many heroes nearby that would take a "shoot first, ask questions later" approach when it came to him. Though they were rather engaged at the moment... In lieu of taking surface streets, Nanowire flew up and over the building he was currently standing next to and made his way over the rooftops. Maybe if he got in from behind, he could do something.

  17. 'Rising Stars' sounds pretty downbeat, Cos. I got depressed just reading about it. On another note of mediocrity, Clive Cussler's novel, 'Black Wind', is an exercise in why you don't let family help you write. Get this: the villain in the book actually invited the hero to dinner after capturing him, then placed him in an easily escapable deathtrap! First off, even James Bond, the king of camp in that respect, hasn't done that since Live and Let Die! I felt like I was reading the first draft off of the new Austin Powers movie, but the writer's strike had somehow removed all the humor from it. I haven't read a Dirk Pitt novel in a while. The old dog has not aged well. :x (Oh, and it's not even Dirk Pitt! It's his son, who is inappropriately named, guess what? DIRK PITT! Way to think outside the box, Clive! Is your dog named Dog? How about the family feline? Would be a "Cat" good guess?! You putz!)

  20. Pretty much. Wolverine, despite having low strength, can cut through nearly anything. That's a definite Penetrating effect at work. Whether or not you wish to have the Mighty feat on it depends on if you want a lot of other melee attacks. If you have low strength, you might just want to have the straight Strike on there, since your bonus, if any, wouldn't be adding much to your damage.

  23. The chandelier breaks, Nanowire ends up falling and crushing a passing puppy, is chased throughout Freedom City by angry PETA people, who just so happen to have superpowers... Velocity, in the meantime, finds out that she's somehow pregnant with his child... despite the fact that's not physically possible. Standard soap opera stuff, really. :D
