Not many people know it, but the infosphere has it's own equivalent of a heartbeat. During times of stress, a human heart beats faster. Same deal with the information transmitted over airwaves during an emergency. Tacnets fill up with police and emergency services calling into their commands, 911 operators deal with frenzied bystanders, and automatic alarms alert their parent stations. The only reason an entire area goes dead, or has a heart attack, to keep with the anthropomorphizing trend stated before, is if something truly catastrophic befalls it. So it was that Nanowire, fully decked out in armor and trawling the city's information pulse for something to do, took notice when nearly all of Parkside went dark all at the same time. Even hardlines took a severe hit, indicating something big hard just gone down. There was only one thing to do - go out and see what was up. Maybe he could even get out of the funk he'd been in since before the New Year. Nanowire blasted off, flying high over the city before locating Parkside. He lost altitude quickly as he angled downwards. The entire area had been choked by a smoke cloud, hindering any normal sight from viewing the area from the sky. This helped him out a lot. Though the cloud had no effect on his radar, others that were not so enhanced wouldn't be able to see him enter the disaster zone. Nanowire took up a position down the street from what looked to be a flying saucer, and waited for the smoke to clear before moving in closer.

Y'see? This is why the girls on this board are so cool. I pull off a line like that around my girl friends, (Friends who just so happen to be girls. I don't have multiple girlfriends.) and all I get is owl eyes in response. And then I feel dumb. :|

Yup, David Boreanaz, Buffy's biggest crush himself. Eureka's very fun, very tongue-in-cheek. I'm a big MythBusters guy, myself. Debunking urban legends alongside explosions. Beautiful. :)

"Breakaway" by Joel Shepard. The second in the "Cassandra Kreznov" trilogy. It's like a mash up of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" (Or Bladerunner, for you that saw the movie) and Ghost in the Shell, both of which I love. Androids, political intrigue, and dry British humor. What could be better? :)

Hey! You're back! And you're fired! Well, that's a toughy. I'm still keen on playing out Daisuke's experiences in Japan. Getting his name, deciding to be a hero, meeting his first bad guy, etc, but I've figured out most of that in advance. The only thing I'm not clear on is how he gets to Freedom City. Oh wait! Brainstorm! Okay, I figured his first real "bad guy" would be Doc Otaku, who is back in Japan laying low after some suitably nefarious scheme went wrong. However, let's assume he comes back over, with Mashin-kun stowing away after escaping from his clutches. Once in Freedom, however, he'll likely start up his heroing once again, so I wouldn't be adverse to RPing their first meeting. Or we could just glaze over that and get to the good stuff. :)

Breathing a bit easier now that the nursing staff had left, Daisuke crawled out from under the curtain and looked around the room. Although there didn't seem to be anything immediately evident, his eyes finally settled on a chart near the foot of his bed. He picked it up and scanned the top page. School had never been a priority for Daisuke, but he knew how to read, and what he was reading wasn't good. The entries started in October, which is the month he thought it was. However, it appeared he was off a bit. "January?" he squeaked in surprise. He'd been asleep for three whole months? Not just asleep from the look of things, either. There was a laundry list of injuries he'd been diagnosed with when he'd been brought in. Most of them he didn't even recognize. For example, he had no idea what 'massive blunt force trauma to the thoracic cavity' meant, but massive blunt force trauma to anything had to be bad. Then he got to the final page. Words like 'decompensating', 'exsanguination' and 'sepsis' were sprinkled throughout, gradually building and becoming more frantically scribbled until... "no..." the chart slipped through Daisuke's nerveless fingers before clattering to the floor. It sounded like a gunshot in the silent room, but he couldn't hear a thing over the horror rising inside him. The clipboard landed face up, on the same page he had seen last. The page that had declared him dead. Daisuke sank back down to the floor, hugged his knees to his chest, and began to cry.
