Villain PCs (and Killing and Other Related Stuff) in FC PbP
MBCE replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Archives
As the longest running active Villain on this board, I think I should share a thought or two. A lot is being said here about killing. A lot of the conversation seems to be about PvP threads. My character hasn't killed. I didn't make him a killer. My character doesn't really do the PvP as he isn't a very "flashy" villain either. Most of my threads have been solo stories examining the character's lifestyle. I've had bad luck in getting other players to play with. For the most part, I enter a thread with a few ideas in place. If it is a story that I've started, my villain is going to win. Period. He's not going to get arrested. If the story has a hero in it, I want to have a third factor present so that we can work together. Fighting directly with PCs can cause too many problems. Like most other players, I like to win. If the story is one where I have dreamt up the plot, then I'm going ot make sure my guy comes out on top. He may get bruised and hurt, but he's not going to suffer for it. Why should my villain be forced to pay for his crime in every thread if the heroes can survive every encounter with the NPCs villains? PCs should be more powerful than NPCs. Because this is a game, I do realize that the dice may not go my way but I'm not going to allow dice to ruin the story I want to play in. Now, what do I do when entering a thread with other PCs? Who gets to "win"? Well, I prefer to have the PCs work together instead of working against each other. Have a third factor appear where the PC villain and the PC hero can team up against. I know PvPs are fun, but that's where things can get very iffy. Two heroes or villains sparring tend to work out just fine. Both take lumps and can walk away with no problems. It's only the hero vs villain PvP that cause problems. That's why I think those threads need to have a code of play in place. If the dice has one win, then what happens? Talk to the other player and agree at the begining, before the story gets too far. Killing. I'm of a split mind on this one. I see no problems with villains killing generic NPCs and not getting caught doing it. Of course, this is in a solo thread which is used to further the development of the villain and is done out of the spotlight. Killing NPC police officers or civilians, no. That is against the main theme of the board. But if you decide to make Hero Joe for a one shot story that he gets wiped, cool. I'm against killing PCs, major NPCs, or non-powered NPCs. You just don't do that or you call on real trouble. Crossing that line will call everyone down upon you. I agree with AA's last statement. Villains need to have more to their characters then a lust for showboating. Making sure that we develop that side is important in a RPG. EDIT: As for timeline and clapping a player down after getting caught. I don'T think we need to do that. Having the player make threads that happened before getting caught still works or in the far future ( about two to three months after getting caught) should be fine. -
Boomer Jadon ran out of the Gadgets R' Us and headed to the nearby restroom. Outside of the store, a group of people had begun to gather trying to find out what was happening within the store. The two men that ran from the store had caused enough of a commotion to attract a number of the customers. The large number of people gathering delayed Jadon slightly from getting to the restroom. At first glance, it was empty with three stalls. Jadon headed into the stall and began changing into his costume, ready to deal with the situation in the electronics store.

Zealot Zealot ran out of the store to the nearest bathroom to begin changing into his armor. He entered the bathroom and his senses could detect the presence of magic within the room. His quick observant eyes notes five more of the creatures in the bathroom along. One was ripping at the hand dryers. Two were on the ceiling ripping at the lights. One was in a stall doing who knows what, but Zealot could hear laughter coming from it. The last one was on the sink, playing with the soap dispenser. Other than the five magical green creatures, there was no one else in the bathroom.

Zealot Notice check DC 20. EDIt: Which you can easily beat taking ten so no need to roll.

Oops, I'm sorry. That should have been acrobatics, not Dex for Leon. I started with dex and changed it to Acrobatics after looking at the character sheet again.

I agree with that assessment. When does the thread start? Could you list it here? And a link to the thread?

My luck has never worked on a group of people! But why wouldn't it? If I concentrate, I should be able to affect an area instead of an individual. I've got to try or these goons are going to drop both myself and Belphegor before we can repay our debt! Sammy reached out with his ability to affect the law of probability in a way that he had never done so before. Instead of concentrating on one target, he decided to spread the effect out to catch all the goons. Even as he exerted his will, he knew that it wouldn't hit as strongly as his concentrated effect. However, if these men weren't wearing heavy protection, it should still easily effect them. The effort left Ghost winded but it was strong enough to take out at least three of the men.

Do you think your Villain has performed a very note worthy event? Would it be enough to have Legend, the protector of the Arena notice? If so, list the event here. I'll get it placed in the thread in the Arena for everyone to see just how bad a character you've made! Take a look at the thread here. When you add your event, please list the date that the event occured as well as a one line explaination. After which, try to sum up why Legend would notice the event. Looking forward to seeing the posts! One suggestion I would like to add is the Shadow Academy's starting in Freedom. That is one event that he would definately note!

September 16th, 2009: A mysterious event causes a number of Freedom's heroes to travel to The days of high adventure.

Oh, great! The powerhouse of our little group is getting the crap knocked out of him. I wasn't chosen for this job for my combat expertise! That's what Bel's here for. If he can't take out these goons, then we're going to be in a whole lot of trouble!

I don'T think this has ever received a date for the timeline thread. As the events of this thread will happen in "different time" we only need the date when Doc and the others were "taken" I'm thinking of placing in late September. About September 16, 2009. Of course, by the end, everyone will return the same day. How does that sound?

Doctor Archeville The gesture was simple and the orbs seemed to obey his mental commands with ease. It was not unlike switching channels using a normal remote control yet there didn't seem to be an actual deviced used to perform the change. The first picture that formed within the large pool of water was that of a large rustic town. The outside of the town had a tall stone wall with men walking and keeping watch along the rapparts. The men wore similar clothing, rustic armor with a red tunic while carrying long spears. Adjusting the picture within the well, Dr. Archeville managed to zoom in closer on teh picture and noted a heldric badge upon the men's chest. Satisfied with the new information, he pulled back to get a better view of hte town again. Beyond the wall were rustic towns straight out of the fantasy books the Doctor had read for pleasure from time to time. Deeper within the town was another stone wall that surrounded a hill. Upon the hill was what could be nothing other than a castle. Again, he noted guards walking the walls with the same clothing as those as the outside wall.

Looks like it's just you and me then Doc. Not a problem. Here we go! If any of the others decide to hope back in drop a line here first and I'll catch you up to the Doc.

Sammy had always known he had more luck than other people. things just seemed to fall his way. From avoiding fights to managing to slip undetected into a house while on a job. All of that luck came before the mission that gave him the ability to avoid detectionf from machines ans such. A part of him knew that what he was told was only partically ture. If his luck came before their ritual, then his natural luck should still be in effect. The last vestige of his face were begining to disappear. Soon he would have no eyes or ears to experience anything. In effect he would be nothing. The figure before him, what was becoming stronger and firmer as Sammy's body disappeared, was ugly to his eyes. As he was losing all hope, he noted a small section in the creature's head--a black spot not unlike a birth mark. It was the only disfiguration of the creature that Sammy could see. 'There! A kink in the armor. Perhaps that's where I can retain my identity! Oh great Lady! Watch over me so that I may retain a part of myself!'

Boomer and Wesley People ran out of the sound area, but there were still plenty of gawkers standing within the store trying to see what was going on. Loud music as if all the steroes were turned on at their highest volume erupted from the curtained off sound area. A few CDs came flying out of the area to crash against the walls and other displays. Teh flying discs caused a lot of the people in the store to duck in surprise but no one was willing to go and see what had caused all the trouble. Those that had ran out of the area had various reactions. Two of the men ran from the store and into the mall proper while three others simply ran behind displays within the store. Of those three that had remained in the store, one was screaming. "Demons!! They're going to kill us all!"

Leon and Atlas I need a Dex check DC 15 for Atlas to grab and stop the treadmill from flying through the window. (the strength check you can make taking 10 so only the Dex is needed.) I need a Dex Check DC 30 from Leon for him to get to the weight machine in time to save the man. (The strength check you can make taking 10 so only the Dex is needed.) I need a Notice check DC 29 from both Atlas and Leon. If you make a DC 20 check on the roll, you notice that the machine you're at has a hole in it and sparks fly from the opening in the machine. [Atlas, the treadmill, Leon the weight machine]
-
Leon and Atlas The two oddly paired men react quickly ot the sounds of distress. Each man reached the treadmill and acted just as quickly. Samael easily grabbed the woman and lifted her clear of the speeding treadmill. Leon stood on the other side, waiting to assist if there was a need. The treadmill continued moving at a tremendous speed causing the apparatus to shake and rattle. If the speed continued, the treadmill could tip over through the large pane window. Leon's placement was just right to see one of the weight machines suddenly go haywired behind Samael. A man was doing bench presses when the pressure the computer regulated machine suddenly tripled. The weight of the bar would snap the man's kneck if Leon didn't move quickly enough.

Zealot Victor began moving towards the creature while letting his perceptions check for the telltale signs of magic. What he noticed was that magic seemed to be in several locations within the store. Not only was the creature he was stalking of a magical nature, there were more in the store, lots more! The green creature had stopped at a video display, showing the latest release. Its claws had already begun ripping their way into the machine, unaware that it was now being stalked. A number of people walked aobut the video area, oblivious to the small creature's presence or actions.

However, if the changes radically alter the character, we may request that the character goes through the approval process. It is decided case by case, so still put the requests in the Edit thread.

:?: Dc 5, right? You rolled a 4. That means you're fatigued, correct? -4 on all rolls.

Boomer and Wesley The Tvs were of the best quality. The pictures were clear and the prices weren't actually that bad considering that the smaller screens were on sale. Still, there were other things for Jadon to buy and look at. He jotted down the information of a couple of the Tvs and moved on to the gaming area. As he walked out of the Tv section, he caught sight of an athleticly built man with cornrows. The man's baggy pants, high tops, and white tanktop screamed wannbe thug. Of course, considering that Freedom had people of all walks of life, the man could actually be a thug. Wesley didn't see much in the news program to get bother with. He still had to pick up those presents for Arrowhawk and the others. Just as he was about to move on passed the TV section, he noticed a young boy dressed in casual clothes looking at him. The boy's short blond hair marked him as someone that had life easy, unlike Wesley. He often got looks from the more well to do kids when he was out shopping so it didn't upset him. After a moment, the boy began moving out of the Tv section, heading for the games area, a short distance from the security devices. As the two young men began moving to their respected shopping corners, a loud noise was heard over by the sound systems. The noise sounded like an small explosion followed by screams of pain. Glaning in the direction of the music section, both men could see smoke and people running away. Most of the people running held their hands over their ears.

Leon Mighty and Atlas Leon reached the clothes section and began to look for something that would suit his purpose. There was a decent selection but most of the items carried prominent logos. It took him a while to find a pair that didn't have a logo on it. He moved back towards the cash registers passing another well muscled man. From his practiced eye, Leon knew that the man could most likely rival his own incredible strength. Samael had easily caught up with the strangely dressed man while he was searching for pants. The scene was most comical as most of the other people stood silently gawking at his attire. After a short while, the bare chested man managed to find a pair he liked and began to head to the cashier. As he came closer, Samael could see the man sizing him up. Just as the two men were an arm's width apart, a loud roar of engines running came from the training machines. Following the roaring engines, came a woman's scream. Looking in the direction that the sounds came from, the two men could see smoke rising form one of the tredmills. Upon the treadmill was a woman running full out, trying desperately not to fall. From the sound of her scream, it didn't sound like she could keep up the pace much longer.

Zealot Victor grabbed the items and began walking to the music csection when he caught sight of a small figure moving quickly through the aisles. Normally, victor would had simply assumed it was some child playing in the store, but it was moving way too fast for any normal child. Though it was moving fast, he did manage to get a very good look. And what he saw caught his attention. It was no child though it was smaller than a toddler. It, for that was about all he could call it, was green. The creature's skin was scaly like a snake with splotches of brown intermixed. The creature moved on two legs like most people, but its hands ended in wicked looking claws. The creature moved directly to one of the listening displays and quickly began racking it with those same claws. It had breached the other layer in very little time and had begun to sink its teeth into the wiring. Small sparks went off from the machine before the creature turned and dashed off.
