Well there are a lot of little loopholes in the system like that. Without them, where would our munchkins be? Seriously though, if a player wants to spend a hero point for the effect, I have no problems with that.

Sammy looked up at the timer as the numbers slowly counted down. Sweat dripped from his hands making the lock picks harder to grip. A small pool of his blood had collected at his feet from the many small cuts he had received from failing to open the lock. Sammy turned his attention back to the lock and turned the pick slightly to the left. Each time he had tried to open the lock, he had learned a little more about the working parts. Each small bit of information allowed him to better sharpen his skills but still it was not enough to complete the job. A loud buzzer went off signaling that time had expired again. Sammy braced himself for the punishment that was about to come. He had endured the cuts for his past failures and he didn't expect this failure would be any different. He waited to feel the sting but after a moment, realized that it wasn't coming. Sammy blinked his eyes a few times before slowly standing. Perhaps something was broken. He hadn't managed to open the lock which was the task of this particular room but somehow he had maanged to avoid the punishment for failure. Slowly, Sammy walked to the door and back out into the corridor where he found Legend standing waiting for him with a glass of water in hand. "I hope things went well for you, Sammy," the older man said as he handed the glass of water. Sammy drank deeply from the glass. The cool water was refreshing with a slight minty aftertaste to it. The glass drained, he handed it back to Legend. "I think it did. I feel like I learned a lot but there may be more for me to learn in the future. I still didn't manage to complete a few of the tasks but I guess I can try again later." "Yes, you can come again and try later. I suspect that one day you will manage to complete all the tasks that are offered here at the Arena." Sammy smiled. "Thanks, Legend. I suspect Lady Fortune will watch out for me a lot more that I've put time in improving my own skills." "I believe she will at that." Sammy nodded his head and wiped down his pants. He was surprised to see the cuts that he had recieves slowly mending. "That was some water you gave me there, Legend. Some kind of healing elixir?" "Yes, I can't let my visitors leave the Arena in an unsightly fashion. By the time you leave these corridors, you should be presentable." "Well, thanks again, Legend. I'll be back here sometime later when I feel my skills need some fine tuning." Sammy smiled widely and walked back to the entrance and the world outside.

Most likely. Best to simply wing the big bady your own way just to get the thread completed. It is the longest running thread on the board I think.

Sammy looked down at the guide book in his head and reread the description of the sculpture. Something about it just didn't sit right with him. The style wasn't one that he really liked and so far, the whole exhibit had done nothing for him. 'Best to get out of here and head home. Maybe next month they'll ahve something better.' Sammy moved out of the building and stopped suddenly when the man landed from the sky. 'Great. Another super in town. Maybe I'll ahve some fun with the newbbie.' Sammy moved over to the hero and smiled. "Welcome to Freedom City, Contour. What brings you to this fine city?"

I'm going to lock up the thread for now since there has been no in character post since March. Once Heritage has gotten things in order, the thread can be reopened.

Castle seems to be down at the moment for rolls. For the present situation, Capricia and Belphegor can act before the security guards. So far there are three present: Leader type -- white hair at side of hair. Think of Reed Richards style but with muscles. Guard 1 -- Magnetic powers Guard 2 -- Force blast For Ghost his Disable Device is +14 on the roll. Notice +13

The cowboy in question lays on the ground shaking. "Please, don't hurt me! I have a wife and kid back home. Just take the money and leave me alone." The man begins to empty his pockets, dropping a wallet as well as a silver flask. He quickly begins to remove his large watch as well, knowing that the robbers would want that as well. Just as he releases the clasp, a side door, hidden behind one of the guady golden statues, opens revealing three men. The man in front was large with white touching the edges of his hair. The other two men behind him were smaller, but held the same focus as they moved passed their leader. The first man spoke quickly. "Neutralize their weapons!" before moving further into the room. The command broght the man on the left into motion. He raised his hands and a wave of magnetic force covered the group of robbers. WEapons flew from the goons hands to fly and land at the man's feet. Once the weapons landed, the smaller of the three men pointed his arms at the pile of weapons and a blast of force smashes the weapons into uselessness. Ghost looked up as the three figures entered the scene. Great! The real security is here now. I hope she can hold them off while I get to work. Ghost continues moving to the cage and stopping at the gate that protects teh money form unwanted intrusions. A quick scan showed that it was already in lockdown mode once Capricia had entered the casino. Should have had Whisper stay on the inside to open the gate for me. Oh well. Hindsight is always 20/20. The Ghost quickly removed one of his tools and took a look around to make sure everyone was focused on the diversion instead of his actions before starting work on the gate.

Then it becomes simple. If a character wants to know a language, they buy it by putting points into the skill. The Jack of all trades feat should not work with languages.
-
Right now, the Thugs are out of the fight. It's a chase between Shui and Icarus at the moment. With Icarus moving only at Flight 1 and Shui moving at Speed 2, Shui will catch him fairly quickly. What he does then is up to him. As for Icarus, he can try to lose Shui by doing opposed Dex checks. This way will be simpler than using power ranks and so forth as speed isn'T the problem. For each 5pts over the other, equals a success. Icarus needs 5 success to get away. Everytime Shui wins a success, lowers the successs that Icarus has gained. Total of 0-2 successes means both players are in range of each other. 3-4 means slightly out of sight and unable to affect the course.
-
I'd have to disagree. Jack of all Trades should not apply to languages at all. If you want your character to be able to speak many different languages, simply buy the comprehend power. Letting people get a benifit from the feat for languages just over complicates things. For the effect above, I would go with the Benefit feat and say that the character has been exposed to various languages.

Is Shui going after Icarus? I was unclear with the last post.
-
No new map. If Shui does something to try to stop Icarus then we get to continue. The Skin heads have had enough and will be running next round. Ball's in Shui's court. Right now, Icarus is still within range of Shui but next round I doubt that he will be. Shui can deal with the remaining Skinheads if he wants.

Shui blasts the downed thug again into unconciousness but then he notes the other thugs still down begin to stand up. Whatever force that was holding them down, had released them. Icarus creates a gravity field around the canister to protect it from from water getting in--that is, as long as the force of water isn't stronger than his field. With the canister protected, he steps out of the van to see the thugs begin to stand up. Only one was already standing their eyes locked for a moment before Icarus began flying away from the scene. Shui, from his higher vantage point saw the armored man exit the van with a canister in hand. Slowly the figure began to fly away from the scene but it was clear that he was accelerating. If Shui didn't do something right away, the armor figure would be well out of sight.
-
Shui's attack hits, but is unable to further damage the down thug. Tough DC 25 (1d20+10=29) Icarus feels the van rock more from the water blast. Colton decides to follow the Thug that got away. Norseman follows after the Thug that ran last round. One of the thugs manages to stand. Str check DC 22 [10+gravity control (12)] (1d20+12=28, 1d20+12=14) ROUND 13 ---
-
Icarus easily rearranges the canister in his hands but is sure that the crack is going to be a problem if water enters it. Again, he feels the van shake from water hitting the side. Outside, Shui's blast again hits its mark but something about the angle just isn't enough to damage the thug further. Colton chases after the thug into the building and out of sight. Norseman, seeing Shui and the armor clad figure had the situation in hand, follows after the red skinned thug he was beating on earlier. His war cry echoes behind him as he moves. One of the thugs manages to regain his feet as he strains against Icarus' gravity control. The others remain either pinned or unable to move.

For a good example of a solo thread, take a look at the Burning Down the House in Southside. It's a great example of a solo thread. For a weaker example of a solo thread, take a look at my thread A Night of Culture. You can come up with something in between and get a story out for yourself. Sometimes, the solo thread attracts attention and another player might request to join, like Summer Vacation There is a lot of options here at the site and no reason why something can't get started. If you are interested in seeing other players join in perhaps at a later date, simply put that information in the OOC thread that you open at the same time as your IC thread. And don't forget to PM players that you would be interested in playing with as well. You'd be surprised at how many people will be willing to join in. Good luck!

Okay, thanks!

The lights came on and Sammy stood with the others in the audience clapping thier approval of the performance. He scanned the crowd again thinking of trying his luck at the purse but the play had put his heart into a different light. I'll let her keep her bag for now. I have more important things to do than to lift purses. Time for me to get in touch with Lenny. Sammy left the theater and worked his way home. In the morning he would search out Lenny for the information on a place to hone his skills.
