guide gab Freedom League lineup and role
Heritage replied to Ari's topic in The Lighthouse: Catchphrase!
Personally I like the idea of Daedalus and Psuedo off in the Black together, which Changeling joining the League. Not sure if my non-Green status allows me to post here, but I just felt like chiming in. BTW, how does one become a Guide? -
Gretchen frowned and shrugged. "I worked for ADT for six months. It's not like the wiring is that hard." Meanwhile, Lynn stepped into the room and did a little twirl. "One of the few downsides about this place is the lack of closet space; there's just the one in the bedroom, and that's it. However, at least you have this- " She indiated a massive armoire just to the left of the door. "Built by Ira Silberman himself. And no, it has no magical properties or hidden compartments, at least not that we could find, and belive me, we looked. Figure he probably built it before he got into the magic stuff." She began to head deeper into the apartment, heading towards a long corridor heading back towards the kitchen. "Now, the stained glass windows and the two smaller ones on either side of the fireplace don't open, but all the sashes in the big window looking out over the street do. Also, there's this door here." She unlocked and pulled open a door that lead out onto a sort of patio in the light well between the two apartments, with a screen door fitted for extra air flow, allowing fresh air smelling of green things to flow into the apartment. "If you leave this door open, with just the screen, you get a nice cross breeze. C'mon out." The patio was not large, but ther narrow little space was quite pleasant, with gravel underfoot, several potted plants like ferns that did well in the shade, two green aluminum garden chairs and a little charcoal brazier. The two young women took seats and adopted relaxed poses. "Nothing fancy, just a little chill spot. Oh, we should get another chair." For now, she conjured an Adorondak chair for Sam to try, if he so chose. Gretchen pulled out her smartphone and taped a few keys. "Noted."

Rolling for Casey, including Attractive bonus: 1d20+10=18. Meh, less than impressive. Let me know what that gets me. Also willing to HP that if necessary.

"No, that doesn't look right," said Casey as she shook her head. She looked over her shoulder and called out to the agent in the booth. "Excuse me, sir? Can you rewind the movie back about five minutes and then replay that section? I just need to check something." Once the section was rewound and replayed, Casey shifted herself into overdrive, which made her slightest movements blur, but for once she was more concerned about how fast her brain was processing information as opposed to how fast her body moved. Twenty-four frames per second was nothing if you could redecorate your whole room in the blink of an eye, so with the persistence of vision destroyed, all Casey saw was a series of slides projected on the screen. She took a step closer, which to Aquaria appeared to be a sudden lurch towards the screen as she leaned forward, waiting for unusual 'flicker' to show itself.

So I'm not 100% sure tour bus guides use radio to make their announcements, but i figure it's within the realm of superhero science

Casey's face went a little pale once she saw the thousands of points of light inside the container. She'd just dropped it right on the freakin' dock; what if they'd all detonated? Still reeling from this terrifying near-miss, she turned back to the man with the clipboard, presumably a supervisor of some sort, and when she spoke, her tone was grave. "Sir, we need to get all nonessential personnel off this dock immediately; whatever it was that blew out the side of that container, there are a lot more where they came from in there, and we have no idea how stable they are, or even if there's more than one container. We need police, fire, maybe even hazmat or the bomb squad on-site now; can you make that happen?" That still left the tour group to evacuate; not want to cause a panic, Miracle Girl tried a new trick she and her friend Sakurako had been experimenting with at school. Pitching her voice at the same frequency as the bus PA system, she was able to broadcast her voice right through its speakers! "Ladies and gentlemen, we now ask that you please return to the bus in an orderly fashion so we can resume our regularly scheduled tour. Once again, we thank you for using Freedom Tours."

Happy birthday, TT!

Good, it seemed like Crow had picked upon on what she was trying to do; it was always a liitle nerve-wracking the first time you worked with a new partner as you tried to feel out each other's style, especially the first time you're actually 'in the field' together. Casey reached the door and held it open for the young mystic, continuing their conversation as they headed into Philips. "Uh, let me think...two years? No, three; we flew out for Uncle Stan's funeral in St. Paul. Actually, I think that's the last time I saw Aunt Cindy; she's mostly been trying to be there for her in-laws, you know?"

"You might be," she warned as she floated closer towards the container. "Everyone should probably step back, just in case." She began to scan the container for heat with her IR, looking for any kind of movement or increasing temperatures inside it. Then she had a thought, and looked back to the dockworker who'd spoken earlier. "Where did this container come from? They all have labels and seals on them, right, for tracking purposes? I saw that movie Contraband, and they talked about it a lot." Should she be embarrassed to admit she got a lot of her knowledge from movies? Maybe, but she was still a kid, and let's be fair, most people probably learned stuff from TV and movies, so it's not like she was alone in this.

Gretchen pursued her lips and nodded as she accepted the coins. "Fair enough." But behind her eyes, the wheels were turning as she carefully noted some peculiar things about the customer, but she needed to obtain more data before she came to any firm conclusions. Red eyes, a few visible burns, seems to be radiating heat... "Let me see if I can guess your major," she mused as she leaned back against the wall and stroked her chin. "I'm guessing....film? Or advertising. Or social media, I'm not sure. Something people-heavy." She was left handed, and the words 'The Future Is Unwritten' were tattooed on her knuckles, the 'the' partially obscured by a silver ring with a large ruby on her index finger.

"Got it." Casey hung up the prepaid phone, stuffed it in the pocket of her Comets jacket, and took a deep breath before looking over at Crow, her partner on this leg of the mission. "Okay, let's go." They stepped out of the alley and started walking towards Philips Cleaning & Landscaping, the somewhat sketchy janitorial service picked by Terrifica for their cover. Concerned about showing up on camera, the blonde heroine decided to go brunette, borrowing a dark brown wig in a layered shag style and a pair of brown contacts from her mentor. Last night she watched several YouTube tutorials on wigs and make-up, and her super-speed allowed her to experiment a bit this morning until she got the look just right. Jeans, cowboy boots and a Kenny Chesney t-shirt completed the look. Doing her best to looked bored as she chewed her gum, she idly chatted with Crow as they approached the door. "So this Thanksgiving, my parents are saying we might try something different; visting my Aunt Cindy up in Minnesota. She's never had the family over, but it should be fun."

Gretchen cocked an eyebrow at the mention of her alma mater, then set aside her book and slid off her stool before moving behind the bar. "FreeSA's a good school, but make sure you have a back-up plan." She gestured dramatically to take in the entirety of the store. "You can see how far my BFA got me." For a few fleeting seconds, half a smile touched her lips. As she began to set up the shots, the snarky barista paused as she expertly swept the excess coffee off the top of the portafilter with a cloth, calmly studying the young customer with those dark blue eyes of hers. "These two drinks...that's six shots of espresso. Are you sure you can handle it? I don't want to have to pry you off the ceiling later."

If the projectionist rewound and played that section again, would Casey be able to analyze it with her Quickness acting to process the info faster? I'd be willing to spend a bit of fatigue for any sort AP off of it, if necessary.

Is it acceptable for Casey to ask for Terrifica's help in creating a disguise? I'm mostly thinking a brunette wig and brown contacts, but she wouldn't mind looking a little older, too. This is not essential, but just a thought; I'm actually considering adding some ranks of Disguise in her next edit, as I enjoy seeing her undercover.

"Oh, crap!" In an instant, Casey dropped down and swooped back up under the huge container, bracing its full weight with her hands and shoulders as it began to plummet towards the crowd below. It was much heavier than she thought it would be, and it felt like a giant's hand trying to smash her through the docks into a pulp. Her golden aura flared as she pushed up with all her might, her stomach registering her rapid descent as her long blonde hair whipped around her head, and a quick flash of panic ran through her head. Oh God...I'm not strong enough! I need to get clear of the tourists! Why the heck are you all just standing there?! Casey pushed and pushed and pushed with every ounce of her strength as a hot dagger of pain flared up in her right shoulder. No, not like this! Noooooooo! She didn't even realize she was screaming until the container finally came to an abrupt stop, a scant five feet above the heads of the crowd; she then slowly floated to one side, and finally dropped it to the dock with a deafening clang. For several seconds she just floated in the air, arms limp by her sides and drenched in sweat as she tried to bring her breathing back to normal, her damp face caught in the flickering light of digital flashes as the tourists cheered and applauded, somehow still unclear on just how close they all came to dying. Finally she caught her breath enough to gasp out a few words. "Next time...next time, move!"

Gretchen sighed and raised her hand. "They came to rescue me. I got sucked in after I broke Al-Kazar's mirror, which turned out to be a real sh###y idea." "Yeah, that's my fault," Grimalkin offered, wincing with shame. "I was trying to prevent a psychotic Belgian from getting access to the mirror, so I gave Gretch the kill order." Then she stopped herself as she peered at the 'young woman'. "So I take it you're...somehow connected to Al-Kazar? He's my great-grandfather." There was a swirl of mist, and Grim was now back in her civilian persona, brown Silberman's Books apron and everything, though a bit of Merge's hair color remained. "I'm Lynn Epstein; I run his bookstore now."

Gretchen looked up from her book and cocked her head to one side as she studied the newcomer for several seconds; she wore black plastic frame glasses, several rings and bracelets, and a black Frank Zappa t-shirt, while several tattoos, including musical notation, were visible on her arms. Her observations apparently made, she went back to reading her book before answering him."The door is open and I'm behind the the counter. I allow you to draw your own conclusions." Cass did make one interesting observation of his own; despite the intense damp heat, the young woman showed no signs of sweating.

This can't be good. Noting the perilous state of the container, Casey quickly went into action; she put a hand on the guide's arm. "Get everyone clear if you can; I'm going to get help!" Shouldering up her bag, she ran into the maze of cargo containers to change into her costume in a quick rush of air. Hiding her bag full of civilian clothes under a stack of pallets, she then took to the air to investigate the cargo container dangling perilously over the crowd of tourists far below, ready in an instant to catch it if the last remaining cables broke. What the heck was in this thing?

Silberman's Books. August 31st, 2016 10:05am. It was just after 10, and the forecast was brutal; the store had only been open for a few minutes, and it was already a furnace, because the AC was down and it would be a few hours before the HVAC repairman could make it over. This and the large standing sign in front of the door warning about the lack of AC kept a lot of the regulars from coming in for their morning cup, which was sad, but seeing that many of them were elderly, Lynn that it as best that they knew from the get-go. Of course, due to their respective powers, neither Lynn nor her partner Gretchen was uncomfortable, so they pretty much had the store to themselves so far this morning; Lynn was using it as a chance to catch up on paperwork in her office, while Gretch sat on a stool behind the counter reading Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung, a collection of reviews by legendary rock critic Lester Bangs. Normally she'd be on her laptop, but without working AC she was concerned about the poor thing overheating. Several industrial standing fans were set up around the store to offer some relief for any would-be shoppers, and an oscillating desk fan perched on the counter next to Gretchen, occasionally stirring her hair with its breeze.

This Wednesday was only a half day at Claremont, due to the weird logic that the beginning of every fall term followed. So Casey found herself with a free afternoon, and opted to go on a bus tour, because you miss a lot of things if you mostly fly over the city. She hoped it would offer her a new perspective, and a chance to see her adopted city the way outsiders saw it. ...which appeared to be with no caution whatsoever. Feeling bad for the overworked tour guide, the blonde teen did her best to corral her fellow tourists back on the bus, because she of all people could see how much the dock workers were stressing. "C'mon, let's, let's...get back on the bus. Single file, one a time. Yes, ma'am, the docks are exciting, I agree." As usual, she had her oversize hemp bag over her shoulder, which held her full costume in case of emergencies; otherwise, she wore a Colorado Rockies jersey, khaki shorts and a pair of flip-flops

Lynn held up her hands. "Hey, the only person who eats conjured food in this house is me, due to my dietary restrictions; everything else is Grade A Certified Real." She indicated the patio with a jerk of her head. "I'm gonna head out to the patio and start grilling; anyone who wants is welcome to join me. Megan, what do you guys want to eat?" Then she gave Gretchen a nod as she started to head out. "Gretch, you want to set up the chessboard by the fireplace? That way you can spread out a bit while Meg can still keep tabs on Lawrence." Gretchen peered down at the small, well-mannered boy and narrowed her eyes dramatically. "Alright, small one. Let's see how you fare on the field of battle." She grabbed a blockish, modernist set made out of black and white marble off the top of a low bookshelf, and led the wee lad over to the large Oriental rug in front of the fireplace at the other end of the room; she set the board up in the middle of the rug, then took a seat beside it Indian style. "Do you prefer black or white?"

Missed this OOC somehow; ummm...let's start with her out of costume. Technically it's a school day (i *think* Claremont is already back in school?), but let's say it's one of those half days you often get early in the year. Regardless, what if Casey decided to join the tour group? She's still new in town, and i can see her doing it.
