Casey had heard that quote before; wasn't it in an old Star Trek movie? She wasn't too keen on facing magical stuff, especially since she knew so little about it, but she would see this thing through until the end, because Casey Blankenship was not, and never would be, a quiter. "Sure, I can do that." She looked down at the remains of her costume. "Uh, any chance I could swing by my dorm first? I'd rather not be, you know, half-naked if I have to fight someone again. I have a few spare costumes back there. "

Color me interested! Probably Lynn would be the best choice, due to her experience and relative unflappability, though Casey's optimism might also help.

Gretchen swooped over towards Robin, holding out her hand in mid-flight as the medkit yanked itself free of the wall and flew into her grasp. Landing beside the grievously wounded teen, she flipped open the kit and began to assess its contents; it looked like a pretty good one, so maybe they had a chance. She gestured towards Robin, and her bloodstained clothes split and peeled away from her injuries with surgical precision. Without looking at Woodsman, she began to lay out gauze, bandages and other supplies in an orderly fashion as she spoke. "Are you any good at this stuff? I'm strictly amatuer, but you look like some sort of survivalist, so I assume you know a little combat medicine. I've got good hands and I know what everything's called. I can help." She turned to him and offered him a quick, tight smile. "Let's save your girlfriend's life."

1d20+8=27 to hit; DC 23 Toughness check for the portal. I hope my use of 'gamer speak' for Gretchen doesn't come off as annoying; she's very much a computer and video game geek, and it seems fitting to me, especially since she's trying to make the situation less real as a coping mechanism.
-
Gretchen wasn't sure if her shot had done anything, but she decided it was probably best if she kept on blasting the damned portal. She drifted closer to the ground, feeling a bit guilty floating safely over the fray, and sure enough she drew three Ferals almost instantly, though thankfully even the one who managed to hit her wasn't able to penetrate the Cloak's protective magics. Stay low and do your part; allowing yourself to be targeted takes a bit of aggro off the rest of the team. She raised the Ring and fired again, hoping to make a difference.
-
Gretchen slowly shook her head, unable to pull her eyes away from the magnetic yet technically terrible performance. "No, it's not just you. These guys are complete and utter s###." She indicated the front man with a nod of her head. "I would be surprised if Alec here knew more than three chords, four tops. Plus he's using way too many effects pedals, and they're in the wrong sequence. You should never have your chorus after your reverb, otherwise you're just making noise." Then she pointed at the bass and drum players. "The rhythm section is completely out of sync. They take turns coming in late on the beat." And then she sighed and shook her head. "And don't get me started on Keyboard Girl." Looking around at the rest of the club's reactions, she felt like she'd just stepped in from an alternate universe where people actually knew what good music sounded like, kind of like how she felt watching the MTV Music Awards every freaking year; seriously, why was she still torturing herself year after year? "On the plus side, we now have concrete proof there's something wrong with this band, because we haven't killed ourselves yet. Clearly sinister forces are at play."

The great beast was sent flying, launched backwards by the terrific force of the combined blasts as it traced a graceful arc that ended with a resounding thud on the other side of a wall of cars. For several seconds, there was no sound, but then Grimalkin's distinctive South Jersey accent could be heard calling out. "Alright! Good...good hustle out there! Go Team Us!" In a few moments, the diminutive changeling came hobbling around the corner, one hand on her side, wincing slightly. When she saw the alarmed looks of her employees, she held up her hand and shook her head. "It's all good, it's all good; just got the wind knocked out of me, is all." She conjured up a big, overstuffed leather chair and promptly plopped down in it, beaming up at Shrike and Presto. "That was some amazing teamwork out there, you two; very impressive, especially that last combo." Gretchen smirked and lightly bumped Sam's hip with her own. Then their boss turned to look at the ex-con specifically. "And yes, assuming everything works out well, I'd have no problem allowing some special alone time between you and Great-Grampa Ira's things " Grim gave him a playful wink, then grew a bit more serious. "But don't be so jealous that I'm 'naturally blessed'; I had to die first before I could access my powers..."

http://orokos.com/roll/383111 1d20+10=22 Did Shrike get skipped in Initiative order last round? She would've been targeting the portal again, so action-wise we wouldn't be missing much. I apologize for my recent inactivity.

Almost through a particularly brutal stretch of schoolwork; should be able to post again starting tomorrow night.

Yes; she's trying to get them to see her as a potential ally, and hopefully more trustworthy than Electro Lady.

Great; I bet they're telepaths. Or maybe just one of them; I guess that's all you need, really. She wasn't quite sure what she was supposed to do if her quary stopped running, which left her in a bit of a quandry. Maybe she could try to work on their loyalties, like Terifica suggested? On cop shows, it always seemed to work. She landed as quietly as she could a short distance nearby, then used her speed to suddenly appear beside them. "Hi guys! I was hoping to have a chance to talk with you two." She crossed her arms and grinned. "So, who's interested in getting a reduced sentence?"

When the stage show began in earnest and the smoke did its freaky, freaky thing, a single thought echoed in Gretchen's head. Magic. Oh sure, it could have been some amazing tech, or elemental control or psychokinesis, but if there was one thing the Shrike had learned from people like her boss or Presto the Preposterous, it was that people who worked with magic were always theatrical. There were props and costumes and rituals, and they always go for the big entrance. And what an entrance it was! So much do that the cynical young musician found herself on her feet, whooping and applauding for a band she hadn't even heard of until two seconds ago. It took all her willpower to return to her seat, which was more than a little unsettling. "This is bad. I'd go so far as to say 'very bad'. This smells like mind control of some kind." She jerked her chin in the apparent lead singer's direction. "If this ###hole snapped his fingers, how many of these kids do you think would do whatever he asked?" She snorted with little humor. "I might even take him up on it, and I despise guys with goatees."

Casey wandered back over once the paramedic let her go; the very nice lady really wanted her to take it easy and not strain herself, which actually made them both laugh. She'd done her best to field repair her costume using some suture thread and bandages, which mostly made her look like some sort of punk rock mummy. She was rotating her shoulder to test the repairs as she approached Aníbal and Terrifica. "Well the medic cleared me, though she wasn't super happy about it." She frowned. "I'm still not sure how a lion that goes 'poof' was able to tear me up so good; could that have been magic?" She laughed and shook her head. "Boy, it sounds so silly when you say it out loud, doesn't it?"

Was there any noticible effect on the portal by Shrike's blast?

Tuesday, March 8th. I never knew Gretchen could be so...nice. And gentle and thoughtful and sweet. We don't have a name for what we're doing yet. Well, *I* don't anyway; Gretch has labeled this time as our 'Initial Machine Experiments', which makes it sound much kinkier than it actually is. It's all about 'systemic desensitization', you see, i.e. getting used to each other, and she made this hilarious chart and put it up on my fridge. You'd think this scientific approach would feel cold and clinical, but oddly enough it makes me feel safe and protected; the level of detachment helps keep the hint of panic at bay, that part of me that's terrified of moving forward, being happy and letting Bill go. By mutual agreement, she hasn't moved in yet, though she does have a drawer and a shelf in the medicine cabinet. She stays over a lot, and we snuggle on the sofa and fall asleep in a tangle of limbs. But not the bed yet, even though part of me *really* wants to; sharing a bed, even just to sleep in side by side, is a whole other level of intimacy that's just... But soon. Soon.

Shrike shrugged as she continued slowly scanning the area and moving in a semi-crouch, looking more like Special Forces than any sort of magic-wielding heroine. "You might get sued by Corey Hart, but it would be worth it. And for the record-" She tapped the side of her silver mask. "I can see in the dark. And so can she, as well as hear us and smell us. She can take on any form as long as it's the same mass as her, but she can't do metal." Then she shook her head and waved her hand, anticipating his next question. "Don't ask me how the pixie thing works. All I can figure out is she's somehow converting mass into thrust. E=mc2" Just then, a massive black panther leaped onto the hood of the car next to them, its weight causing the whole front end to dip and rock; the great beast snarled and bared its fangs in a truly frightening display. Though clearly startled and afraid, Gretchen quickly regained her cool. "One, two, three, blast her!" Her left hand snapped up and fired at point blank range just as the creature pounced!
-
The Shrike chuckled as she moved forward slowly, holding her left wrist again like she had a piece. "Pretty darn powerful. Technically even I'm not a hundred percent sure of everything she can do. She still surprises me everyday." There was a great deal of affection in her voice, which perhaps spoke to more than mere professional admiration. "I'm not too worried about my bonus, because she loves it when I kick her ass. And she knows your reaction time by now. She would've dispelled that weight before it crushed you, so you were never in any real- " Suddenly there was a deep, angry rumbling from somewhere amongst the rusted hulks, and Gretchen stopped, her eyes wide with alarm. "Oh s###. I think I managed to piss her off." And just then Butch killed all the lights.

Grim had heard about places like this, thin spots between Realms that you could walk into as naturally as breathing, and not even realize you'd left. Or maybe it was a veil of illusion? Either way, she imagined the monks only allowed a select few to cross over."So beautiful," she murmered to herself as drank in the place with heightened senses. - - - For several seconds, Gretch just stood there blinking and holding the edge of the door. "Well, then," she finally managed. Reaching into her pocket, she fished out a penny, then took several steps backward to throw it into space and note any reaction.

As usual, I will throw Grim and/or Shrike in as potentials; you certainly aren't lacking for eager volunteers! -
Okay, doing a little research about traffic copters online, she's probably about 700-800 feet in the air.

The massive weight barely missed the quick-thinking conjurer, but it thoroughly demolished the Ford Fairmont he'd been hovering over mere seconds before, crushing the roof, shattering all the windows and causing the doors to buckle. And then, just like that, it melted away into vapor like it was nothing, leaving destruction in its wake. The tiny pixie crossed her arms and sniffed petulantly as she floated down towards Presto. "Fine! Be that way! Don't get smoothed like a bug. See if I care." Suddenly there was a loud yell as Gretchen jumped out from behind a Toyota Corolla, grinning like a madwoman, left arm up, right hand 'round her wrist. "Gotcha, bitch!" She nailed Grim full-on with the Ring, sending her itty-bitty body spiraling through the air, trailing smoke as it disappeared among the wrecks. The young barista mimed putting a gun back in its holster and motioned for Presto to follow her. "Come on. She can't have gone too far."
