Ana grinned. "No, but if you hum a few bars, I think I can fake it; point me at a joystick and I'll see what I can do." The Terran engineer had successfully avoided having to operate any ship armaments up until now, but she figured it would have to happen someday; she was just glad it was in a fight where she knew where she stood morally. Once the controls were explained to her, she powered down her helmet to reduce any sort of glare, and got ready to open fire. "Ready when you are, Ruby."

So just so I'm clear, is Saku giving Casey directions on how to get to the storage shed where Vicki is with the wetsuits?
-
Please give me a chance to catch up in this thread; there have been fourteen posts since my last post, and Casey is way behind right now :p
-
By now, Casey knew her roommate pretty well; she could see that sort of deflated look she got when one of her attempts at building camaraderie didn't pan out quite the way she wanted, so like Vicki she wanted to encourage her. She nodded in agreement as she finished off her lasagna and prepared to dig into her huge slice of chocolate cake. "Yeah, if you have a mad scheme of some kind bouncing around your head, Saku, let's hear it; they tend to be a pretty good time, and the new kids really should see just how crazy things can get around here."
-
Is it possible to just let the voltivore go first? Casey will basically be waiting for it to show up anyway.

recruitment That Camping Thread I've been Kicking about
Heritage replied to TheAbsurdist's topic in Archives
Casey's Scout Sense is tingling. "Did someone say 'camping'?" Obviously sign her up! -
The minute Merge uttered that title, Lynn visibly stiffened as she was about to take her seat behind her desk; without looking over at her assistant, she muttered in a low flat voice, "Gretchen, close the door." The young girl's eyes went wide as she hastened to comply. "Is that-?" "The Belgian, yes." She closed her eyes as she sank into her old leather swivel chair, as though to comport herself. "And what exactly does that vile sonuvabitch want with my great-grandfather's mirror? I always suspected it might have special properties, I just never had the time to study it more carefully." Gretchen paused in her note-taking, holding up her pen. "Wait, you actually have something called 'The Mirror of Al-Kazar'? That's an actual thing?" The shopkeeper nodded. "Yes, I do, though I've never heard it refered to so formerly before." Then she cocked her head and glanced at her assistant. "Boy, sounds like a quest item, don't it?" "Yeah, I'm pretty sure one of my WoW characters already has that." The two coworkers shared a brief grin before once again looking serious and attentive. "Please continue."

GM Lance was indeed between drink orders when the blonde with the ponytail approached the bar; he was big with a friendly face, and wore a purple Kansas State t-shirt under his brown Silberman's apron. "Oh yeah, great!" He stepped over to the register side and pulled out a pre-printed application. "Here you go; do you want to fill it out right now? I can get you a clipboard and pen, if you'd like." The application was a simple double-sided sheet with the usual questions; name, address, phone number, questions about the previous three jobs the applicant had held, schooling, special skills, hours preferred and space for up to three references. When the young brunette with all the earrings heard Lance handing the blonde the application, she looked up from her MacBook and cooly looked the new applicant up and down; her gaze wasn't hostile, merely analytic.

Casey nearly spat out her food when Vicki popped next to the new girl and nearly scared her pants off; she really didn't have a mean bone in her body, but real life slapstick sometimes caught her off-guard. Choking back laughter and lasagna, the blonde powerhouse was red in the face by the time she recovered. "Yeah, maybe less...blinking around, at least while people are eating. Oh God, that was funny! Nice to meet you, Eileen, by the way! I'm Casey." When Errant did his version of the sudden appearance act, she sighed and shook her head slightly; she still didn't know what to make of him. Part of her was sympathetic and part of her was deeply annoyed by him. "Oh yeah, that's Elias; he's a telepath, too...I.think." She frowned slightly; she was kind of unclear as to what Errant actually did.

Silberman's Books. Friday, May 1st, 2015. 12:08pm It looked like it as going to a really nice weekend weather-wise, which usually meant busy mornings and afternoons at the small independent bookstore at the corner of Pratt and Frederick; as much as purists might scoff, Lynn knew when she reopened her family's store that adding the cafe elements would help drive revenue. True, some people just stopped in for coffee and a bagel as part of their daily routine, but they often grabbed a paper, magazine or gift card for a friend, so the hassle of milk and coffee deliveries was, in her eyes, totally worth it. Except for days when the milk order was running late; then Lynn wanted to hang herself. They were out of skim by 10:30 and almost out of soy, which tended to make many of the older lactose intolerant customers grumpy; they still had lots of almond milk, but there were often allergy issues. Lynn was in her office sitting behind her massive desk, trying to reach the dairy for the third time since before opening. "Oy gevalt, this is nuts; who doesn't have voicemail in this day and age?" Meanwhile on the sales floor, Maddy was helping a young couple find a special book for their niece's fifteenth birthday, and Lance was working the bar, a bandana covering his head as usual. Meanwhile Gretchen, Lynn's personal assistant, was sitting at one of the tables with her MacBook, a stack of completed applications and a large Americano within easy reach. - - - There was indeed a 'Now Hiring' sign taped to the window next to the front door, just as Fast-Forward said there would be; now Sam just had to go up the stairs and head inside.

Errant has 'used record store employee' written all over him! For now, I think I'm just gonna stick with Starlight, but I appreciate the interest!
-
Sign Miracle Girl up as well, if there's still room!
-
I think Lynn would feel more comfortable with a legal adult, which in NJ means 18. Now after January 2016, Lynn would be happy to bring on Sakurako, so maybe next summer?

Casey was used to leaving her clothes in weird places...which really didn't sound all that good when you put it that way. She was happy to follow Endeavor and the rest of the team, doing her best to keep out of view from the road. When it came time to swing around back, she did so gracefully, gliding in a long lazy loop and taking up a position in the tree tops where her amazing eyes could best be of use. "I've got eyes on the back of the house," she said softly into her comlink. "Let me know when you're going to make your move."

Believe it or not, if Sam is completely honest with Lynn, she would everything she could to help her; Lynn lived on the street for four years by panhandling, so she would sympathize.
-
She was actually the character who made me think of starting this thread, though it looks like she could give Gretchen a run for her money on poor customer service :D
-
Yeah, we don't a flood of super-employees; in fact, it's a made-up store, so it's not like staffing is an actual problem :p I just thought if there was a player who wanted to give their character a job with free hooks, the offer is out there!
-
With Gretchen looking to become Grim's Sidekick, this means fewer hands minding the store on a regular basis, which means one thing: Lynn's hiring! If any PCs, especially recent or soon-to-be Claremont grads, are looking for a job with built-in story hooks, please note the ad below: Silberman's Books is looking for part-time help over the summer, with the potential for full-time employment after 90 days. We're a friendly neighborhood used bookstore and cafe in the West End, and we want you to join our team! Good pay and benefits, excellent job for students. Cafe and/or retail experience prefered. Contact Lynn Epstein.

From the Secret Blog of Gretchen McDaniels March 27, 2015 Last night I finally managed to pop Boss Lady right in the kisser; I've never seen anyone so happy to get a split lip. She was trying something different: instead of a disguise, she'd gone invisible, and when Boss Lady doesn't want to be seen, brother you don't see nothin'. I began to sense a presence, like a quick flash of movement out of the corner of my eye or a icy fingers going down my spine. Something was out there, and it was out to get me. Finally at one point, when I couldn't bear it any longer, I just spun around and hauled off with a solid punch, and I connected: wham. Then I heard someone fall and then a burst of laughter. And there she was, laid out on the ground and rubbing her jaw, blood trickling out of the corner of her mouth and the biggest s###-eating grin on her face. That was awesome. I'm so proud of you. See? Insane. She called off the Cato project early and took me out to dinner at this real swanky restaurant in Riverside. We polished off two bottles of wine and I only threw up a little. It was a pretty good day.

From the Secret Blog of Gretchen McDaniels March 21st, 2015 I cannot trust the homeless. Or cute guys who hit on me at the library(?!), or women with big maps asking for directions, or sweet little old German ladies or fat Boy Scouts selling candy. All have turned out to be the Enemy. Why does she have the time to follow me around; doesn't she have a store to run? Classes to attend? Crime to fight? She told me during last night's workout that this will only last until the end of the month, and then things will more or less return to normal. I sure hope so; last night I was attacked by a bench.

This did not look good; Casey's eyes darted around to look for innocent bystanders, both to keep them out of harm's way and to protect her identity. If this thing kept getting bigger it was probably getting stronger, which raised the grim specter of collateral damage; it just wasn't acceptable to have stoves and refrigerators flying around the neighborhood. "If this turns into a fight, we have to keep it contained; be aware of possible civilians and flying debris." The powerful teen's arms were at her sides, fists slowly clenching and unclenching.

Heritage replied to The Sailor's topic in Rivers, Lakes and Oceans
"Hot cocoa sounds great! Do you have mini-marshmallows?" When it came to food or drink, Casey was in fact still just a teenager. "And yeah, we did detect a cargo ship nearby; not me personally, but another member of our team. He's got some kind of special-sonar-sense, I guess." She looked back toward the Claremont boat. "Tell you what, let me check back with the rest of our team, and then we'll follow you back, okay?" The blonde teen drifted back to the school's boat. "Okay, they seem to be legit Coast Guard, and they're out investigating the same thing we are." She pointed back the way she came. "They've got a cutter, and they're offering hot cocoa; maybe after we warm up and break the ice a bit, we can all work together on this?" She leaned forward slightly and lowered her voice. "I don't think they've seen Blod yet, but we can't just leave her on the buoy; what should we do? Oh, and they've got a metahuman of their own, with some kind of special vision powers." -
I fixed all my links in my original post.
