  1. Casey shrugged. "It seems fine to me, but I don't really get hot or cold anymore. I mean, I guess I'd feel it if we were swimming in liquid nitrogen or something, but..." At the mention of food, Casey's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "Oh, I love hot dogs! I hope you brought lots!" Then a thought hit her. "Hey, have you ever gone waterskiing? I could tow you along! Or maybe..." She dove underwater again, and shortly thereafter Sakurako felt strong firm hands on her hips; luckily they did not pull her under, as some kids would be tempted to do, but rather they began to push her along in the water, almost like the prow of a ship! The young genius could feel the surging power as Casey's mighty legs kicked surely below the surface.
  2. Maddy jumped in her seat a bit, startled somewhat by Sam's sudden appearance. "Oh s###, Sam, you scared me!" Then she lowered her own voice, unconciously aping the young Hellspawn. "Where did you come from?" The bookseller looked between the two versions of Sam, clearly putting all the pieces together. "So you can do magic, too, I guess? Seems to be a lot of that going around..." When Sam suggested they leave, Maddy appeared to be a bit conflicted; on the one hand, there was a lot of weirdness in the air and it would be nice to get the heck out of there, but on the other hand Lynn was her boss, which still seemed like it should count for something. "I dunno, technically I'm still on the clock-" But then she looked around the store one more time, and she realized how ridiculous she sounded. "Y'know what, she can adjust my punch later; let's get the hell out of here!" Meanwhile, Lynn gestured towards the bookshelves. "Yeah, feel free to have a look around; mi casa es su casa. Though I keep all the weird and scary stuff locked up in back." Then she indicated the bar with a nod. "You guys want any coffee or something to eat?"
  3. Ana puffed out her cheeks and ran guantleted fingers through her hair, an entirely pointless gesture due to the way the jets of cool air from the collar of her suit sent the pale strands dancing about. "By any chance does the Voidrunner have an sort of stealth capability? I'm thinking the longer we have before the Gorgon can detect us, the better." Then she gestured towards the other pale Earth girl in a suit onboard. "Dragonfly and I could work on the comms, and by that I mean she can work on them, and I can hold her toolbox." She grinned; the former astronaut and engineer was smart, but she wasn't afraid to admit when she was hopelessly outclassed in the brain department.
  4. Casey yipped slightly as Vonnie snatched the water out of her hand, then wrinkled her nose in mock-annoyance as she shook her fist at the boy. "Why I oughta..." When Saku noted the odd movement of the trash, the taller blonde joined her. "Uh, no, that's definitely not me; what would you even call that power, 'trash animation'? Trash-o-kinesis?" She began to reflexively scan the area, including the various windows and rooftops she could easily make out with her amazing eyes.
  5. Casey shortly bobbed to the surface like a cork, a sunny smile on her face as she loudly exhaled. "Pah! This is so amazing!" She held out her hand and rocked it from side to side. "The water's not quite right; you can feel it when you swim deeper. Still, for a sim it's incredible!" She flew up in the air, did a backflip and dove back in with a graceful splash, almost more like a dolphin than a human. Resurfacing again, she looked thoughtful as she effortlessly treaded water. "Say, how long can you hold your breath for? I can do it for a few minutes nowadays."
  6. As if on cue, Ana limped onto the bridge, half her torso covered in large patches of blood-streaked ice. "We've got FTL back online; shields will take a little longer." She held up a gauntleted hand in greeting, which she instantly regretted as she spoke through gritted teeth. "Ahhh! Ana Plonsky of Flint, Michigan, Earth, Sol. A real pleasure to meet you." The pale-skinned cryokinetic leaned against a bulkhead for support. "I take it we have...you to thank for the lack of killer cyborgs onboard?" She looked around with bleary eyes. "Do we have a decent first aid kit around here? And maybe some homo sapien blood plasma?"
  7. Casey offered the new arrival a smile and a friendly wave. "Hi Miss Grue! Can you fly? How many fliers do we have?" She zipped up to the ceiling, then dove down and hovered right in front of Vonnie and said softy, "By the way, I'm really glad you came back." Then she was back up, floating in place with her arms crossed. "Well first off, I think we need to know what people are capable of doing, at least before we start trying to split into teams or trying more advanced tactics." She stroked her lower lip thoughtfuly. "This is going to sound silly, but maybe we should start with something really simple. Like maybe...tag? Or how about combat tag, where we have to manuver around obstacles, too?" The blonde powerhouse cleared her throat, and then spoke in a clear, loud voice. "Initiate Urban Combat Configuration 345, please!" Various simulated structures rose out of the floor; wooden and chain link fences, the backs of several old buildings and what appeared to be streetlights and telephone poles. The Wreck Room had taken on the appearance of any number of alleys that could be found throughout Freedom. She alighted gently next to Vonnie. "Does this work for you guys? No flying, just to be fair."

  9. Grim shook her head as she followed the creature's progress with her eyes. "Okay, did anyone else get a super-creepy vibe off of that laughter, especially after it just made off with a blood sample? Gyuh, that can't be good!" She shivered dramatically. The changeling stepped over to her dome and gently wrapped her knuckles on its stony surface. "Yeah, a few more defenses can't hurt; maybe alternate different kinds in case they have the means to bypass some of them? Magic, energy, tech and so on?"
  10. The last few months had been somewhat trying for Ana, in no small part due to her ending her contract with Oskar; the old Kraut apparently had enough war for one lifetime, but he was more than willing to let her go with her share of the profits, as well as a sizable 'parting gift' that she hoped to use to purchase a ship of her own once the fighting stopped. Since then, she and Sei had formed an unusual partnership, though the vicissitudes of war kept them separate for long periods of time. Ana did not particularly enjoy fighting, but she was getting better at it. She was currently traveling with three other Earth women, though that wasn't always easy to tell. "Forgive me for doubting, but maybe that's a good thing? I didn't think the Gorgon was something you want to poke with a stick."
  11. As far as shields go, Grim did erect that dome over the mystics, but if we want to replace or add to it, she'd be fine with that.
  12. Oh crud, did I miss Grim's initiative? Sorry, my weekend was crazy :(
  13. I will definitely consider setting a thread there, EP, but I agree a pinned sub-thread makes sense in the appropriate neighborhood. Which reminds me, I should do one of those for Silberman's...
  14. The blonde bruiser chewed her lower lip as she listened to what Vonnie had say; her natural desire to help others was almost overwhelming, but her mom always told her you can't help anybody who doesn't want your help. She sighed and held up her hands. "Look, train or don't train; it's up to you. Me, I've always found working with other people made me better, especially if they're good at something I'm not. You're only alone if you want to be." She jerked a thumb over her shoulder. "I'm going back in; see you around, Vonnie". As she walked past Sakurako, she held up a hand and softly said, "Hi, Saku! Once back in the training room, she grinned and rubbed her hands together. "Okay, two on one; I like those odds!"
  15. Lynn pulled out her smartphone and checked the time. "Well, I've got a little while before I meet my guy, and the daughter of Poseidon here just ordered pizza, so we've got some time to kill." She winked and took a sip of her coffee, then held up a finger. "Mmm, let's have a look at our clue!" She reached under the table and traced a circle in the air, then proceded to bring out the purse she'd found. "I think this belonged to the woman who screamed, and presumably disappeared." The changeling held it up for an experimental sniff with her sensitive nose, then offered it to the Welsh girl to examine. "Here, have a look; there's some odd gold stuff inside."
  16. "So I went over your record, or at least the public record, and it seems to me you do your best work when you're part of a team, like with Nightrival, the Knights or the Interceptors. I'm also assuming your time off-planet with Colt was productive." That unintentionally struck a nerve. "Yes, quite...productive." If Gretchen heard the catch in her throat, she ignored it. "I've also watched you around the store, and you're not so great with tech. I mean, I assume you can program a DVR or run Microsoft Office, but that's about it." This was starting to get annoying. "Actually, I can pilot spacecraft, up to a G-class Martian 'Intrepid'; can you do that?" That actually did catch the girl by surprise, and she looked suitably impressed. "No, I cannot. That's actually pretty cool. I'll add that to the list. 'Starfleet...captain'..." After writing it down, she cocked an eyebrow and pointed at her boss with her pen. "Ah, but can you repair a spaceship?" Now she had her; Lynn started to speak, but had to catch herself. "I, well-" She sighed and looked down at her hands. "Colt handled all the repairs..." "And there's no shame in admitting that. I have no fashion sense and I hate dogs. So, moving on, I've come up with a list of suggestions that I think will improve your heroic efforts." As the young woman began to go through a check list of very sound ideas, Lynn was completely (though pleasantly) surprised; Gretchen was revealing previously unknown depths! And the girl was thorough. When she finally got to the end, she capped her pen and set it and her notebook aside. "So, what do you think?" "I think you got the job! Why haven't you worked this hard for me before?" Gretchen shrugged as she grabbed a handful of Skittles out of the bowl on Lynn's desk. "I was bored. I like a challenge." Then she smiled as she popped some in her mouth, perhaps the first genuine smile Lynn had ever seen her smile. "You finally challenged me."
  17. Actually I think of my characters, the pairing with the most potential is Fluer and Miracle Girl, based on Casey's passion for nature and public service. Casey recently came up with a plan to sneak out at night to use her Super-Speed to clean up Freedom's parks; perhaps they might meet up like that? On the other end of the spectrum, Grim and Miss Americana might be an interesting mix; half of the proceeds of last year's haunted house went to help Freedom's disabled vets, and I believe prosthetics are a bit of a passion for Miss A?
  18. The taller girl chuckled and shook her head as she dropped her glasses into her tote. "Well I got maybe half of that. Still, forty feet?" She shaded her eyes as she looked across the 'water', then shrugged. "Yeah, I can make that work." Suddenly Casey shot up into the air, tracing a graceful shallow arc that brought her right into the most complicated part of the sim; there a quick splash, then she was gone, completely below the surface.
  19. The blonde heroine nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we could care less about whatever your secrets are; we're just here to find out what's causing all the power outages. And if that means helping all of you bag this voltivore, then we're happy to oblige". Casey scratched her head. "Last we saw, it looked like it was heading for the state forest to the west of town; any idea why it might be headed that way?"
  20. Casey rolled her eyes. "Well duh, of course you seperate the recyclables! We could set aside all the stuff you might be able to repurpose." She reached into the cooler for a water, then looked over to where their classmate toiled alone. "Hey Vonnie, you want a water?!" She held the bottle aloft and wiggled it from side to side. She took a deep breath and sighed as she turned back to Sakurako. "A lot of loners at this school."
  21. Casey rubbed her face with her hand. "Oh my God..." Taking to the air, she followed after Vonnie, even though she was fairly sure he wanted to be alone. She just couldn't let it end like this. She landed a few feet behind him, her hands shaking. "Hey! The blonde's voice cracked a bit as she looked at the boy's back, suddenly aware of just how damn perfect her own life had been so far. "If you want to be alone so damn bad, why are you even at this school? If we're all just holding you back, why even bother?"
  22. Casey was startled to see how quickly the rancor was developing between the two teams, or at the very least between Nevermore and Endeavor. Clearly this would not be resolved by any silly tactics on her part. Stepping into the middle of the room, she formed a T with her hands. "Okay, timeout everybody! There is no need for any hostility; obviously, we've never trained together, and we really don't even know each other. No one wants to show off or treat anyone like a sidekick; we just want to use the facilities together, productively." She paused to catch her breath. "Both styles of training have value, so I suggest maybe we should try both, one after the other. Maybe flip a coin to see which we try first?" Then she craned her head to one side and smiled. "Also we should invite the guy standing behind the pillar to join us; Samaritan, is that you?"
  23. Casey still couldn't believe the level of detail involved in the simulation. "Is everything else just made out of some sort of hard light construct? I've read a bit about those." The blonde dropped her bag in the sand, then sheepishly looked around to see if anyone else was present; seeing that were alone, she took off the visor, shook out her hair, and let the Madras shirt gently fall away. The transformation was stunning; obviously Casey was very aware of how attractive she was, and deliberately 'dressed down' most of the time for whatever reasons of her own. Now more visibly relaxed, she fished a towel out of her beach tote and spread it out on the sand. "So just how realistic is this? Do I need to put on sunscreen?"
