The blonde teen was troubled by everything she was hearing; this Dr Ring wanted to put his brain in a robot body, and Terrifica was fine with that? Sure, why not! He might have made a few mistakes, but who wouldn't want to live forever in a freaky metal body? She also seemed awfully big for her britches, as her Grandpa would say, but many super-smart people were like that in her experience. But even though Casey had a feeling she and the masked woman would not see eye to eye on many issues, that didn't change the fact that this thing was still out there and needed to be taken down. Feeling she wouldn't have much to add to the conversation between the two more tech-savvy people in the room, she was content to listen and wait.

The Grimhound paused for a few seconds under a corrugated metal awning that created a veritable waterfall, soaked to the bone and growling in frustration; the cold didn't bother her as much the wind and damp. Why the hell am I even down here? I'm no good at this kind of work! There was a rush of wind and splash of water as what could only be Velocity tore past. See, she's in her element down here; I don't know what the hell I'm playing at... But down here she was, and there was nothing to do but soldier on; the magical canine panted a few times and plunged back into the wind and rain, determined to make it to the safety of the shelter at any cost.

Grim also looked a bit askance at Robert, imagining Dok would have said something similar; frickin' scientists! As they discussed possible future encounters with the Duke, the shapeshifter suddenly hunched her shoulders a bit, and got a little pink in the ears. "I, uh...might have a little something that might help us with that..." She reached into her dimensional pocket and pulled out...the Duke's journal, still in its clear evidence pouch! She turned it around in her gloved hands a few times as she spoke. "I promised the evidence tech - who was just adorable, by the way - that we'd bring it right back once we made a copy, so..." Her gaze darted between the other two as she shrugged. "I can be extremely persuasive, especially when I give 'em the 'big brown eyes'!" She did a vague gesture that took in them both. "I'd demonstrate, but you guys have a thing."

Lynn frowned as she tried to change tactics with the young man. "Uh, okay, well...what are some of your favorite scary movies? That might help us narrow it down a bit." The potential sale would be going a lot better if she wasn't so distracted by the damn town car! But then it appeared that her crimefighter's paranoia might not have been misdirected, because its passengers were now in the store, and they looked just a little sketchy. She looked over to the register and met Kiki's gaze, indicated the pair with a slight jerk of her head and mouthed 'town car'; it took the assistant manager a few seconds to figure out what she meant, but once she did she nodded and gave a small thumbs up. "What does that mean?" Kiki turned to face Gretchen, who'd apparently witnessed the interaction from behind the bar. "What does what mean?" The FreeSA grad jerked her jaw slightly towards Lynn. "You two are always flashing gang signs at each other." The older girl chuckled mirthlessly as she stepped closer to the barista and spoke under her breath, her eyes partly shielded by the jaunty fedora she wore. "Lynn doesn't like the look of the two guys who just came in, so she was letting me know." Gretchen raised her eyebrows. "Wow, she really is paranoid, isn't she?" Then she snuck a quick glance their way, the seemingly disinterested glance of the retail veteran, and nodded to herself as she turned her focus back to the bar. "Except maybe this time she's right; got it."

The snotty remark about ignorance stung a little, but Ana refused to take the bait; she'd gotten pretty used to other races looking down on humans, and found it was best to just let them roll off her back. Once It was time to go, she called up her suit's navigation system again; between it and her excellent memory, she felt fairly confident she could get them back to the ship in one piece. As before, the directional hologram hovered over her forearm as she led the group back out onto the street, eyes peeled for danger. "So how long do you figure until we get attacked, boss?" Oh Ana, ever the optimist!

Added another paragraph and a warm body to my post, just to flesh things out a bit.

Grim sat up in the palm of her hand, shook her head clear and fluttered her iridescent wings. "We can't be that lucky; we need to track all those bodies down. Hopefully that journal will give us some clues." She flew out of her friend's hand and resumed her normal size, peering down at Robert's unconscious form. "How is he? I hope my insane assault on the Duke's equipment isn't why he's like this." She turned to look back at the smouldering ruin, shaking her head. "Y'know, even if he IS dead, I have a hard time feeling bad for him, even though that's an awful thing to say." The shapeshifter shrugged. "It's like in his quest for immortality, he sacrificed everything that was good about being human; just a puppet slave to his mad dream." Grim sighed and rested her hands on her hips. "So where to? I have to drop this butler off somewhere."

I'm game, EP!

Casey frowned and narrowed her eyes as well; she really didn't trust this woman at all, since she was clearly holding back a ton of information. But if there really was a dangerous robot on the loose, Terrifica could probably use the muscle when she went up against it. Then again, Casey was also a Girl Scout, which among other things meant she didn't like to lie, though not talking to the authorities about any wrongdoing was technically more of a lie by omission. Think of her as a source; sometimes a reporter can only get the facts by promising anonimity. Woodward and Bernstein probably thought 'Deep Throat' was a complete jerk, too! The blonde powerhouse shrugged. "Sure, I can keep a secret; but if it comes down to having to choose between saving an innocent life or protecting Mr. Big Brain's reputation, that's not even a question, okay?" She landed next to Terrifica's bike and patted the seat with appreciation. "This works for me; sweet ride!"

Sorry to be so quiet on this thread; the next post is gonna be fairly big, and I haven't had a lot of computer time this week. Look for something awesome (I hope) shortly!

"Probably not," Ana chimed in helpfully. It had the look of something very old and dangerous; totally innocuous and insignificant on the outside, but actually the key to something really, really bad. Ana chose not to trust it. But that was nothing new, since Ana was not the trusting type by nature. As an engineer, she was constantly thinking in terms of failure: metal fatigue, power loss, human error. She spent most of her life in a state of resigned anticipation, waiting for things to go wrong; she really wished she had a more positive mindset, but the universe kept confirming her suspicions. The ice-blonde Terran turned to address both Ballus and Uloc. "So do you guys haggle, or is that considered bad form? I love to watch people haggle." Ana rested her elbow on a small vacant spot on the counter, her jaw in her hand, ready for a show.

Grim rolled her eyes and began to tidy up a bit as the Duke started one of his patented narccissitic rants; she piled the journal and one of the crossbows and poisoned bolts on top of the still-groggy Rutte, the sinister butler, traced an oval around him as he mumbled on the couch, and dropped the lot into her Vault. But then the Duke's rambling took on a darker tone, and the hairs on her neck stood on end. "Oh no..." She just had enough time to dismiss all her glamour from the room (the Impact of the Duke's Rolls would be nothing compared to the pain of a full-on explosion) before Velocity grabbed her by the arm and started to pick up speed; the changeling's full-sized body melted back into vapor which trailed behind the speedster, leaving only Grim's tiny pixie arm in her grasp. "Eep!"

Lynn beamed and nodded. "Great, let's go!" As they began walking, the bookstore owner began to cheerfully explain the nature of her trip up from Freedom (leaving out the magic parts while out on the street), and casually mentioned the odd disruption on the train as it approached the station. Despite the appearance of an off-hand conversation, Lynn was actually choosing her words carefully, editing out the mystical bits while still bringing the two teens up to speed on what she'd seen and heard. Once at the diner, she held the door open for them while gesturing for them to enter. "When you're back in town, you should visit my shop; Claremont students save fifteen percent!" Luckily a roomy corner booth was available, offering a modicum of privacy and plenty of room for Glamazon; even though she didn't eat anymore, Lynn reflexively picked up a menu and began browsing. "Order whatever you want; I'm pretty loaded and I'm just having coffee. Ooh, they've got mushroom ravioli!"

Grim waved her hand, and the roboDuke was securely bound with thick black loops of galvanized rubber. "And in case you think they'll take your side, you did very loudly fire them all and call them traitors while you were waving your poisoned crossbow and trying to run me over, so...they might not be as fond of you now." She stood up, drew another circle in the air, and dropped the 'original' Duke she'd been holding in her Vault onto the couch she'd just been sitting on, and quickly bound him as well. Then she walked to the table and indicated the pair of crossbows she'd confiscated earlier. "Plus we've got some physical evidence; these are covered with poison and your prints, and we've got your journal." The petite shapeshifter stood by her friend and sighed as she rested her head on the taller woman's shoulder. "I'm tired. And my arm hurts again..." She rubbed the spot on her left shoulder where the Duke shot her, forgotten for a while in her fury.

At first, no one knew how to react, but then Lynn, who was standing with hands clenched over her heart and the biggest 'aww!' look on her face, swept over to them, still in her full evil Queen regalia. To Sam, she looked much taller than the last time she'd seen her. "Hi, Sam! I'm so glad you could make it!" She gestured towards the zombie quarterback, who now had his helmet tucked under one arm. "Lance here was just blowing our minds with his rendition of 'Sweet Transvestite'!" The beefy blonde grinned and shrugged. "We did 'Rocky Horror' back at Kansas State; of course, back then, I played Rocky." He stepped over to the pale redhead and offered his hand. "Nice to meet you, Sam; Tona's told us absolutely nothing about you." Maddy and her girlfriend Christine soon joined them, followed by Kiki in her scarecrow outfit; Cred0 and Gretchen hung back a bit, being a bit shyer than the others. Lynn met Tona's gaze and asked a question with her eyebrows and a slight tilt of her head.

Just over the front entrance to the building at the corner of Pratt and Frederick was a small sculpted head, added by the new owner; it looked to be carved out marble, but was actually conjured forth out of glamour, which allowed her to peer out of it onto the street every ten seconds to look at the strange car- Lynn snapped back to attention when Kiki casually elbowed her as she walked by the bar, where her boss was leaning while scrying. "Horror books?" she repeated with a nod towards the young man. "Horror books? I'm sorry, yes, we have lots! And they're all twenty-five percent off during our After Halloween sale!" She gestured for the youth to follow her as she led him to the appropriate section. "Here we go, all alphabetical by author; also King, Lovecraft and Poe each have their own section, clearly marked, though there are probably a few Poe over in the Mystery section as well." It made Lynn happy to see the store busy, even though she never planned to make a huge profit running the place; it was more about continuing a family legacy and creating a sense of community. Watching Kiki chat and grin as she closed a sale, or Gretchen roll her eyes as she explained the difference between cyberpunk and steampunk to a customer while pulling shots behind the bar, she realized that was starting to come true. These goofballs are like my second family.

As soon as she saw the blood oozing out of the wound, Grim was furious with herself. "S###s###s###s###s###! Damn it, s###!" She had to get him to medical attention, now, but she already had four kids tucked into her little bower, which Grim had a feeling would soon have blood soaked into its bed of pine needles. Finally she made a decision; she would run over to the shelter as fast as she could, drop off the four kids, then make a mad dash back to the bus driver. To keep a lower profile wind-wise, she would have to go on all fours; the shapeshifter slipped back out the window, took on the shape of a huge wolfhound, and began bounding across the muddy streets towards the shelter.

Yeah, I'm sure you just happened to call their radio by mistake... For her part, Casey was content to just hover in the background, head slightly tilted forward, doing her best to look menacing; she felt pretty good about it, until she happened to catch her reflection in one of the Institute's windows. Oh my God, I look like an idiot! I need to get a costume of some kind, so I don't just look a girl from the track team trying out for 'Peter Pan'.
-
The first one sounds like it will be well-suited to Endeavor's skills, and Casey could help out with flying and punching

Here I am!

A tall athletic blonde in red flannel shirt, jeans and hiking boots approached the group; she wore glasses and had her hair up, but there was no denying how beautiful Casey was, since she practically glowed. When she saw her roommate, she grinnned and bowed. "Konnichiwa, Haruko-san! Ii tenki desu ne?" She was still limited to basic phrases, but her accent was noticibly improving. Then she turned to the less familiar faces and waved. "Hi, I'm Casey!" She held up her tray, which was piled high with double portions of everything. "Can me and my giant pile of food join you?"
-
I would like to get Casey in more threads, so I'm game!

Ana paused in her examination to glare over her shoulder at the three crewmen, but her face quickly softened when she saw the fear and desperation in their eyes. "What I need are the full schematics for your FTL and while you're at it, your atmo system as well, since that's the next order of business after we get this baby back online." She patted it affectionately. "Also I need parts, any spares you can find." The pale blonde turned back to the drive, but then stopped herself. "Oh, and something to drink, too; good old-fashioned water or whatever liquid-based stimulants you have. Terran coffee would be best, but I'm not picky. And ice cold!" She even remembered to smile and say, "Thanks."

I know technically Grim's still supposed to be raging, but I can't in all good conscience still have her wailing on him. So she's channeling her anger (and disappointment) into words. *shrug*
