  1. Sounds cool to me! What would be the hook to draw us in?
  2. Well I did just adjust the ad to reflect that fact it's actually one and half bathrooms and not two full ones; mystery solved! I would be happy with either tenant, and we could do a quick thread of Lynn showing folks around the apartment as each one tries to probe the other for clues!
  3. You know, put Grim down for this! Shes good at almost every skill you listed, and she grew up in Atlantic City, so she knows this world well.
  4. Tuesday, July 29th 2014. Silberman's Books, 2pm. The IT people were almost done, though there stuff was still strewn all over the place; Lynn and her new assistant manager stopped for a quick lunch break in the boss's office for a bit of privacy. Lynn sat behind the big wooden desk and playfully swiveled around in her grandfather's old chair (no, great-grandfather's actually!) like she was maybe five, while Kiki munched on her chicken schwarma wrap, pausing occasionally to sip her mango black iced tea. "What's are those?" Keek indicated a pair of guns hanging above and behind Lynn's head, one a rifle and the other some sort of odd revolver; both looked to be antiques and were mounted on an elegant wooden frame. The petite brunette stopped her childish play briefly and looked over her shoulder. "Oh those? Uh, 'family heirlooms' I guess you could say." A pained expression clouded her face. The taller blonde noticed it and looked stricken as she reached across to grab her friend's hand. "Oh s###, is that from before...?" Lynn waved a hand like it was no big deal, but she also reached across to snag one of Kiki's napkins to dry her eyes. "Don't worry about it. I just cry at random nowadays; everything sets me off. You remember Wreck-It Ralph, that scene when he destroys her car? I was bawling." She watched her friend take a long sip of tea, and licked her lips. "Uh, not that I really get thirsty anymore, but that looks really good. Do you mind if I make myself something to drink?" Kiki shrugged. "Hey, you're the boss, do what ever you like." Then she smiled. "But thanks for asking anyway." The feyling returned her smile as she gestured towards the desk and large frozen strawberry margarita appeared in a ridiculously tall glass with a bright plastic curly straw. Kiki frowned. "Hey, no fair making yourself a better drink than I have!" And now it was Lynn's turn to shrug. "You said it yourself; I'm the boss. Besides, I probably won't even finish the damn thing; I made it way too darn big." Kiki pouted as she noisily slurped her iced tea; Lynn merely rolled her eyes as she opened a manila folder on her desk and looked over the stack of job applications for the umpteenth time. As she did so, she took a big draw of her frozen drink, but then she had to stop as she clenched her forehead in pain. "Ahhh, brain freeze! S###, that hurts!" Kiki could only stare at her in disbelief. "Did you just give yourself brain freeze, from a drink you just made up?" The changeling angrily waved a hand at the blonde, as though she was swatting at a fly, though she also appeared to be on the verge of busting out laughing. "Shut up, it's a magic thing; your puny mortal mind wouldn't understand!" She blinked a few times, then forced her mouth and eyes wide open as she rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Oh, damn that hurt! Begone, foul beverage!" With a wave of her hand, the tall glass disappeared in a burst of frightened vapor. The assistant manager shook her head as she bit her lower lip. "So, did you want to go over your final choices?" Lynn nodded vigorously, her brows still somewhat furrowed with residual pain. "Yes, please, let's..."
  5. Lynn walked arm-in-arm with Rene for awhile towards the back of the store, more or less letting his odd torrent of words flow over her; a look of wry puzzlement crossed her face as she tried to sort the English language out of the rest. "Uh...who can say, am I right?" Then she paused and gave the older gentleman an apologetic sigh. "Alright, I admit I have no idea what you just said, but it sounded very deep. Perhaps too deep for an Atlantic City girl who never had the time to finish college." She noticed Maddy desperately trying to signal her, and indicating a young Asian woman with a jerk of her head. "I did catch the part about glamour though, and you're right about that-" She held up her hand, slightly cupped to block the eyes of the casual viewer; a small flag in the French tri-colors no bigger than a postage stamp appeared there for a few seconds, then melted away into vapor they trailed out of her fingers. "Nothing but mercury and light. I hate to be rude, but as this is our opening day, I sort of feel the need to be everywhere. Here-" A quick flick of her fingers produced a Silberman's Books business card. "I would love to continue our conversation when I have a bit more time...and maybe a glass or two of wine in me. Au revoir , Monsieur DeSaens." She flashed him a quick smile, and then moved quickly to her bookseller's side. "What can I help you with, Maddy?" The bibliophile indicated Sam with a nod of her head. "This young woman is interested in some rare books on pre-Communist China?" Lynn blinked for a few seconds, clearly confused. "And you called me over because...?" Maddy looked somewhat flustered. "Well you know, you're so good with languages..." - - - - A petite young woman with a perpetually bored expression approached the reporter with a circular tray loaded with bite-sized bits of various delicious-smelling baked goods; there appeared to be several types of cookies, cakes and fudge brownies represented. "Would you care to sample some of Mrs. Nussbaum's famous cookies?" Her voice was flat and she made minimal eye contact as she vaguely waved a hand toward her offerings. "Every item hand-made in her kosher kitchen of delight."
  6. So if there are any college age PCs out there, there's an apartment for rent over Grim's bookstore. If they are willing to work at least 20 hours a week for her, she might be able to waive the rent entirely and still pay them $10/hr. Just putting that out there!
  7. Maddy frowned as she scanned the store. "My boss is really good with languages; scarily so, actually-" Then she noted Lynn with an elderly gentleman. "But she seems to be with another customer. Do you want to continue browsing until she's free? I could hold onto those books for you behind the counter while you shop." Then she indicated the far end of the counter with a nod of her head, where the espresso machine was being manned by a strapping young man. "Or perhaps you'd like to enjoy coffee or tea and something from our bakery?"
  8. No problem, Thev! And happy to have you, EP!
  9. This man was indeed far more than he seemed, and his name seemed vaguely familiar; Lynn inclined her head slightly, and took in the breadth of her store with a sweep of her hand. "I'd be happy to show you around, and you're right, there is a great deal of glamour in here, though I don't use it to deceive anyone." Then she cocked her head from side to side, and then smiled. "Well, not to prey on my customers, at any rate; only the unjust." She offered the crook of her arm to Rene. "Care to join me, monsieur?" Now that she'd relaxed somewhat, the South Jersey accent of her youth crept back into her speech. - - - - Meanwhile Maddy had helpfully snatched a book basket to help her customer carry her finds. "I'm not sure how much we have on pre-Communist China, ma'am, or did you mean books actually printed in pre-Communist China?" She grimaced and looked around the shelves. "Sadly I think there we might have hit a minor setback, but if you give me a moment, I can do a quick search and see if we can order something for you. Was there a particular author or title you were looking for?"
  10. Lynn's body stiffened slightly when she noticed the iron ring on the gentleman's hand; her eyes tracked it as his hand moved as he spoke. At length, she decided to go out on a limb; pausing to clear her throat, she suddenly began to speak perfect, accentless Parisian French. <"Pardon me, sir, but I assume you're in...'the trade'? If so, I'd be happy to try and find something for you, either in our own stock or from any number of excellent dealers. However, our store does draw the line when it comes to certain 'unsafe' items."> She smiled again. <"I'm sure you understand.">
  11. Lynn had been helping a young couple find the New Age section when her keen ears picked up the older customer's kvetching; to some folks, he would have sounded like an old crank, but she guessed this might not be the case. She approached the gentleman and smiled warmly. "Good morning, sir! I'm Lynn Epstein, the owner of this store. I'd love to help you find something, but I think an original copy of that particular title might be hard to find, at least outside of a museum's special collection; Late Middle Ages, isn't it?"
  12. This is an open thread for anyone who wants to show up and have a look around the newly opened store; there would have been the usual notices in the paper and whatnot. Feel free to NPC any of the staff and help flesh them out a bit.
  13. Wednsday, July 30th 2014. Silberman's Books. 10:00am Maybe she should have waited until next week for the grand opening, but Lynn just couldn't imagine making it through the weekend on pins and needles, so she just took a deep breath and opened the store in the middle of the week. Things would be a bit bumpy, of course, but that was to be expected with any new endeavor. Just to be on the safe side, she decided to have >her full staff for the opening, on the off-chance there were any actual crowds; back in the day, her grandfather's store had been something of a local fixture, and that was before Lynn's decision to add a full espresso bar and food. There was a good chance she was deluding herself, but better safe than sorry; she could always send some folks home early if it came to that. She turned a gaze over her team; they were all wearing brand-new brown aprons with the 'Silberman's Books' right across the front, and they all looked eager and ready to go. Well, except Cred0, but that was to be expected. For herself, Lynn was trying to look as relaxed as possible in a pretty summer print dress and well-worn pair of cowboy boots. "You guys ready?" There were nods all around; the brand-new proprietor lifted the dark ring up on its lanyard, kissed it for luck and dropped it back down her dress before turning the bolt and swinging the door open. "Good morning, and welcome to Silberman's Books!"

Kiki aka Katherine Knox - Assistant manager, inventory manager and Lynn's solid right hand. A professional dancer by night, which pays almost nothing, but a dedicated bookseller by day. One of Lynn's oldest and rare non-superhero friends. Mrs. Nussbaum Part-time bookseller, baker of amazing foodstuffs. 16. Monday, July 28th 2014. Silberman's Books, lunchtime. Lynn was seated at one of the several comfortable wooden chairs that now dotted the store floor, along with three small round tables to join the old rectangular one from Grampa Lou's day. "Now I know it's a lot to take in..." "Well, yeah, kinda!" Her old friend Kiki snorted as she shook her head and continued to pace around the room, fiddling nervously with her straw hat. Lynn swore she'd never seen her wear the same headgear twice; just how many hats did the girl own? "But I'm still the same girl who shared the apartment with you in Riverside all those years ago; the same girl you met back when we both rode around like idiots for the Fleet." The willowly blonde looked unconvinced as she chewed her lip; finally, the shorter brunette threw up her hands in frustration as she hopped out of her chair. "Dude, who was the one who rode with you to the hospital when you had that nasty compound fracture? I was the one who called for the frickin' ambulance, remember? I'm still the same Lynn! " The tales of their shared bike messenger days seemed to finally be thawing the glacier of mistrust and disbelief that had formed the minute Lynn had (perhaps foolishly?) decided to tell her old friend and roommate the truth about herself. As in all The Truth. Well, most of it, anyways. Kiki slowly slid down into one of the new chairs before bouncing right back out of it again in alarm. Lynn buried her face in her hands. "It's a real chair, Keek, for all intents and purposes; it's not going to go away unless I want it to, and I don't want you be sprawled out on your ass, so please just...sit." The former dance major mutely did as she was told, though she squirmed a bit, as though there was sand in her jeans. "Okay, I get it; you'e still the same you I knew back when...whatever. But you have to allow me to be freaked out a bit, okay? It's not every day you find out someone you've known for years is a magical pixie superhero person. This is a big deal." "I know, I know. And maybe it's unfair of me to tell you, but I think at least one person other me needs to know this stuff, okay? One other person of authority in the store, in case, y'know, someone has to cover for me now and then." "I guess..." Kiki rested her head in her hands, elbows on the table. She was quiet for a few moments. "And it's not like I can't use the money; I'm about to age out of my dad's health insurance, and dancers get hurt all the time, so..." The young blonde finally lifted her head up and met her old friend's gaze with a crooked smile. "Alright, fine; my answer is 'yes'." In an instant, Lynn was up, vaulting through the air and landing on the floor next to her former roommate to give her a warm hug. "Yes, yes, oh thank you so much, Keek! You won't regret it!" She suddenly frowned thoughfully as she stroked her chin. "Actually, you probably will, but that won't be 'til years from now..." Kiki laughed nervously as she slugged Lynn in the arm; sure it was weird as hell having a superhero for a friend, but it was kind of cool, too. "Alright, knock it off, you little freak! So, what do we do next?"
  17. Sunday, July 27th 2014. Silberman's Books, the corner of Pratt and Frederick. Early morning. For the second time in living memory, Lynn Epstein's hand shook as she tried to fit the key into the front door of her grandfather's...of her bookstore; it had been almost three years Earth relative since she'd set foot inside the place, but of course it felt longer, two or three lifetimes ago at least. The last time she'd been in here it was to tidy up after her and Bill's wedding (still hurts, of course), which had been relatively quick due to most of the decorations being glamour, other than Stesha's amazing floral arangements. The ageless fey finally managed to get the blasted thing open and made her way inside. Today her hair was longish and curly, the way she currently favored it, and she wore big plastic sunglasses, a light short-sleeved cotton blouse, khaki shorts and open-toed leather sandals. Her face and body had filled out a bit since last she was in town; no longer a girl, she now looked to be a young woman. Tucking the building's keys back into her small leather purse, she carefully closed the door, then paused to take in the place with all her senses: beneath the dust, it was like the wedding was just yesterday, with all the flowers, hair spray and aftershave lingering like olfactory ghosts. Bill was still here, as were Erik and many others; Grampaloo's spirit puttered around by the back office, keeping himself busy as in life. Small tears appeared in the corners of Lynn's eyes as she turned back towards the door, arm stretched out and back as she smiled and spoke to no one. "Come and see." After a few moments, she let her hand drop as she moved over behind the long wooden counter and put her purse down next to the vintage cash register she has every reason to keep using, just as her grandfather did; with a sigh, she realized her new staff would soon grow to hate her strong sentimental streak. At least there would be new computers for inventory and everything else, and who knows, in time she might even be able to let the register go. Maybe. On to more practical matters; tomorrow Lynn had appointments with the gas and electric people to have all the utilities switched back on, then Tuesday the IT people descended on the place like a biblical plague, with their miles of optical cables. "This is going to work." The tiny heroine nodded to herself. "I know it will."
  18. I think the reason is that the not being able to make metal is a more of a challenge from a Morph perspective than a Create Object one? I will inquire.
  19. I'm thinking that the Emo Control 6 with Reaction might work out fine, so that's something I'm more than willing to do.
  20. I'd be fine switching it back to standard action, if the consensus of judges preferred that.
  21. Changes have ben made! I leave it to the judges now.

Family: Elaine Epstein (mother), Harold 'Butch' Epstein (father), Benjamin Epstein (brother), Edna Epstein (sister). Zachary Reynolds (son), Ruth Reynolds (daughter), Jonathon Reynolds (son) Description: Apparent Age: Mid-twenties Actual Age: 108 Gender: Female Height: 5'3" Weight: 121 lbs. Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown; shoulder-length and curly as Lynn, short and spiky as Grimalkin Lynn is a lovely young woman who typically wears comfortable jeans, T-shirts, hiking boots and a denim or suede jacket by day, but is wrapped in skintight leather of black and midnight blue, complete with domino mask, when she prowls the dirty streets at night. Unless she is going undercover, she always wears a leather lanyard around her neck, from which dangles a dark black ring with a row of diamonds set along the top; she frequently fiddles with the ring while deep in thought. Her ears are pointed and tapered; as Grimalkin, they are clearly visible, but 'Lynn' keeps the tips discretely hidden under her hair. History: A young runaway from Atlantic City, Lynn Epstein turned to a life of panhandling and petty crime to survive; one day it became too much, and she crawled into a dark alley on a chill winter night to die, but instead awoke the next day transformed! For many months she used her powers selfishly, living the high life and swindling ‘suckers’, until one night she saw a young streetwalker attacked; the FCPD’s profound indifference to the crime appalled her, and she swore that night to use her powers to help those the Powers That Be would not help. For several years, she was a member of the West End-based superhero team known as the Interceptors, along with Dynamo, Fulcrum, Jack of All Blades and William ‘Colt’ Reynolds. Three years ago she married Reynolds and retired from active crime-fighting, and she had not been seen in Freedom City since. Upon her return, Lynn reopened Silberman’s Books, the store she inherited from her grandfather on her twenty-second birthday; the building had been shuttered since she and Colt where married in it 2011. Lynn currently occupies the apartment above the shop. She recently revealed to her former teammates that time moved differently on Colt's world, where she'd been for the last three years, and she's now closer to one hundred and eight. Personality & Motivation: Being that she's a shapeshifter, it's perhaps not surprising that Lynn is rather hard to pin down; she lives very much in the 'now', making few great plans and doing her best not to dwell on the past. Her emotions are intensely felt, and she can switch from playful to angry to sad almost in the same sentence. Lynn also finds comfort in the little things, everyday wonders like bike rides in the park, ice cream of nearly any flavor, and lazy afternoons spent lying in the grass; she never seems to have enough of the simple pleasures, which makes her cherish them all the more. As a crimefighter, Grim is driven by many things: the desire to see a wasted life blossom once more, an end to cruelty, injustice and indifference, and a strong personal desire to constantly improve her technique. She likes teaming up with other heroes to see how she measures up and maybe pinch a trick or two, but she is frequently very self-critical of her own performance, to the point of downplaying her many successes. Like a trickster goddess with a vengeful streak, her personal brand of justice might seem somewhat capricious, but she would never willfully take a human life in the pursuit of the law. Powers & Tactics: Grimalkin's powers come from her faerie nature; some of them are innate, such as her keen senses and high tolerance to cold, but many of them come from her ability to manipulate glamour, the very essence of the fey. Seeing as her body is now wholly composed of glamour, she can alter it in a number of ways, such as completely changing her appearance, making herself nearly undetectable, or eluding capture; a favorite form is that of a pixie, just under one foot tall with a two pairs of gossamer wings for flight She can also create various objects seemingly out of thin air (actually her own glamour), which she uses as props, furniture or just her own amusement; she has now found a way to maintain a connection with these objects, and can use this link for surveillance purposes. In combat, Grim prefers the stealthy strike to take better advantage of her claws; when forced into a 'fair fight', she uses her wits and charm to befuddle her foes to level the playing field. She has also learned how to use glamoured objects to capture or obstruct her opponents. Complications: Cannot Eat Normal Food: Though she can still consume mundane liquids, Grim's faerie body can no longer process mundane foodstuffs; her body violently rejects any human food. Enmity of the Fey: As a fey with a human soul, and thus the capacity for genuine creativity, Grim is resented by most faerie creatures, and sometimes even considered an abomination. Prejudice (The Rich): Due to her lower middle class upbringing, Grim frequently has a hard time sympathizing with the well-to-do. She’s the Boss: Lynn employs a small number of employees at her recently-reopened bookstore; sometimes they are overly curious or manage to get into trouble. 23. Okay, so here we go! I know there's a few thing I need to fix still, but I just wnated to get the damn thing up, y'know? Her Defense and Knockdown need adjustment and the whole DC Block needs to be worked over, but otherwise she is done! I can't think of anything else to do with the remaining 4 PP right now, so I'm leaving them alone for now; I may yet need them to fix a few patches in her build anyways. Thank you Supercape for all your help with this!

Like a trickster goddess with a vengeful streak, her personal brand of justice might seem somewhat capricious, but she would never willfully take a human life.
