    Midnight Tour

As soon as she was up in the air, Lulu became acutely aware of two things. One, this was one of the most thrilling things she'd ever done in her young life, and two, it was weird and kind of inappropriate for her to be riding another student, even if they were currently a dragon. Maybe if there were some sort of saddle involved, but bareback was a major no-go. "Uh, y'know, y'know what? Ah'm kind of, uh, feelin' them White Castles swishing around funny downstairs, y'know what a mean? Maybe just do a, like, a quick pass over the river and head back, okay? Ah don't want to toss mah cookies all over your back."
  2. "Ah rode a dragon," Lulu offered cheerfully. "He's a sophomore, down on the first floor." She pointed downward quite unnecessarily. "Had a real fun conversation with Adam after that, because it got a little bit weird, actually." Suddenly feeling very exposed in front of Danica's parents, she turned to the new girl as a distraction. "Ah'm sorry, ah didn't catch your name earlier; what was it again?" She could hide her pink cheeks with an illusion, but Eira would still see them, which sort of defeated the whole point...
  3. Lulu drew in a long slow breath before letting it out slowly. "Ah miss home, ah mean, the town ah grew up in; our house...not really." She waved her hand, and an image appeared of a ramshackle home, which incorporate a construction trailer in its makeup. The yard around it was filled with weeds and scrap iron, and several cars and a pontoon boat rusted nearby. Behind the house were a few trees and then a muddy river, nearly at the level of the yard. As she looked upon it, tears spontaneously appeared in Lulu's eyes, and her throat got tight. "That's...that's home. Where you make your own breakfast, lunch and dinner most days. Two fridges, one for food and the other for beer. One air conditioner in mah parents' room to cool off the whole house; you'd set up...sheets and fans to blow some of that cool air around. We kept our clothes in plastic tubs so the floodin' wouldn't make 'em stink like the rest of the house. Like the AstroTurf and the linoleum stank." Then she turned to Judy, her eyes red with tears. "Ah don't miss it too much-" Lulu collapsed into her friend's arms as she couldn't hold in the shame and loathing any more, her body wracked with sobs.
  4. For the record, Shift would have no problem rooming with Howl. EDIT: Feel free to delete this post.
  5. Back to school was a busy time, even at a used bookstore; Silberman's NW had a decent collection of used textbooks, and certainly offered better prices than the ECU bookstore. Despite herself, Gretchen felt pangs of nostalgia around this time of year; things were so much easier when she was back in FreeSa. Sex, drugs and Call of Duty with a side of studying and working on class projects. Nowadays she staring down 30 as she still somehow toiled in retail. Then she smiled; at least she got to sleep with a beautiful faerie princess before it all went to s###. Right now, Gretch was doing the manager thing, checking prices with a scanning gun; she wore one of her ten pairs of Doc Martens, black jeans, a Banana Splits T-shirt and a sleeveless green flannel shirt, and her usual disdainful expression behind her black plastic framed glasses.
  6. "You may call me Pol, but my code name is Shift," they said with a smile. "Ah yes, the lack of eyes. I understand it can be disconcerting. I can fix that." There was a soft humming sound, and suddenly the entire surface of the robot rippled as millions of tiny plates in their surface flipped and twisted around to form a new configuration, a handsome blonde boy in a flannel shirt and jeans. "There. I hope that will put you more at ease. Shall we resume the tour?"
  7. "Don't be gross, Eira," Lulu said with a sigh. 'But thank you for the crystal computer thing; it's about time ah started livin' up to my sobriquet." Then she indicated one of her suitcases with a nod. "Ah may have one or two 'welcome back' gifts for you lyin' around." At the sight of Danica, Lulu couldn't help but smile; it was basically impossible not to love the turtle girl. "Hey, Danica. These your folks? Sir, ma'am, it's a pleasure. You're raisin' a damn fine young lady here."

    Rally Me This

"Yeah, if powers are a no-go, which ah assume they are, ah'd probably have to wear like an inhibitor collar like they first put on me when my TK showed up. Because some of mah powers go off whether ah want 'em to or not. If ah got a vision that the car ahead of us was a goin' to say blow a tire, that's an unfair advantage right there." Turning to Davyd, Lulu smiled mischievously as she lowered her voice a bit. "How soon we forget; don't you recall our little shoppin' trip, 'Olivia'? You seemed pretty comfortable with me behind the wheel." She was teasing, but it was not malicious. Then she turned and raised her hand. "Ah'm a licensed driver; ah could compete."
  9. "There's somethin' bad....nearby! Anger, so much anger!" The telepath clutched her forehead and did her best to force the pain out of mind, but not lose the connection entirely; they'd need to be able to find the source. "Ah'm not sure it's even human!" Reaching out to grab her phone, she held out an arm and beckoned for assistance to her feet, because she was still feeling very wobbly.

Lulu laughed and shook her head. "What, and miss a chance to get my Khaleesi on? Not f###in' likely!" As soon as she made the Game of Thrones reference, her hair and outfit appeared to change to more closely match Daenerys Stormborn as she practically leaped onto Luke's back, one leg on either side. "Oh, this is goin' to be fun to explain to mah boyfriend," she said with a rueful chuckle. "'Look, when ah say ah was ridin' him, that's exactly what ah mean! Ah mean, ah'm sure you can ride him, too!'"
  11. "You don't ever have to apologize to me, hon; ah know you got a lot on your plate, plus the weight of the world on your shoulders, seems like. The struggle is real." Lulu sighed and looked around her room. "So, this is home. Can ah...can ah get you anythin'? Ah know you don't need for much nowadays, but mah manners require me to ask." She laughed and looked embarrassed. "You know how it is." Southern hospitality was deeply ingrained, and very hard to overcome.
  12. Lulu is using her ESP to get the lay of the land, while hovering invisibly to the right and a little below the helicopter cockpit.
  13. Lulu cried out in shock when a sniper's bullet actually hit Pan in the side; clearly these men had no issue shooting children! The telepath quickly made herself vanish, knowing full well that no cameras or targeting systems would be fooled, merely the naked eye, Then as quickly as possible she flew straight at the helicopter, hoping these troops would be a little more reluctant to cause a friendly fire situation. Hovering as close to the cockpit as she dared, she began to rapidly scan the base to locate this 'Ecogrid' before flying over to it.

    Rally Me This

Lulu's eyes went wide at the sight of the three vehicles; she ran around a bit before focusing her attention on the tricked-out Mini. "Oh s###, Veronica; are you lookin' to start an off-road racin' team! Mah dad used to take us to all kinds of white trash sportin' events; one of his few redeemin' features, to be honest." She ran her hand lovingly over the Mini's fenders as she continued. "Monster trucks and demolition derbys, mostly, but we took in some Southern Rock Racin'. You couldn't wear anythin' nice, out of fear of all that splatter."
  17. A stranger figure approached the group; it appeared to be a slender...human, in a long sleeved dress shirt, khaki slacks and comfortable black shoes, the kind of look you usually saw in Land's End catalogs. As they drew closer, with graceful, deliberate steps, it became clear that it was not a human, or at least not an ordinary one. The hands bore thin metallic fingers with black rubber tips, and the head was entirely hairless and skinless, a smooth eyeless, featureless dome of glass and metal, with the lower half fashioned of some sort of flexible white vinyl, worked into a pleasant mouth. Which was smiling. "I hope I am not late. Has the tour already begun?" The voice was surprisingly warm and pleasant, perhaps a contralto if they were to sing.
  18. "Oh, ah ceded any control over that that side of the room to you a long time ago; there shall be no border disputes our last year. Let peace reign in our time..." Her weird, improvised speech trailed off as she took in the new girl. "Well, aren't you just full of sunshine! Lulu Beaumont, pleased to-" She began to offer her hand, but then a look from Natalia made her think better of it, and stuck both hands in her back pockets. "Well, you know the drill; welcome to Claremont."

    Rally Me This

"Hey, if it ain't sketchy, ah ain't interested," Lulu said with a shake of her head. She looked deadly serious as she counted off on her fingers. "Ah was told there would be kidnappin', body snatchin' and a general ruckus, and ah am expectin' my friend to deliver!" It was so good to have everyone together again! She was especially happy to see Elizabeth, who she rarely got to hang out with other than big school wide events; she'd have to correct that this year. Seeing it was Veronica, Lulu had chosen to wear light hiking boots, loose denim shorts, a sea green, short sleeve peasant blouse and a wide brimmed straw hat. Oversized sunglasses and a notable smell of cocoanut sunscreen completed her outfit.
  20. "Murgh!" Lulu dropped her phone and clutched her head, her eyes squeezed so tightly shut that she saw flashes of color behind her eyelids. Her whole body quaked as muscle spasms shook her from within. Finally she fell to the ground, clearly in pain.

    Midnight Tour

"You have no idea," Lulu groaned as she rolled her eyes as she led Luke to the water's edge. "Mah powers kicked in when ah was ten, long before ah'd developed any kind of moral compass, so ah pretty much went into everyone's head. It took me a while to accept the fact that pretty much all men are pigs, but that ain't exactly their fault; they're just wired that way. If you're a good lookin' girl, boys are goin' to undress you with their eyes; same as a girls checkin' out a sweet ass. But beneath all that filth, which is just part of our animal nature, most folks are alright." She shrugged. "The good Lord made us both weak and strong in different areas. Now, check out that view!" Across the Wading River, the skyline of Freedom loomed, all lit up and reflected in the rippling water. It truly was an impressive sight. Turning back to the sophomore, Lulu arched an eyebrow. "Sounds like ah'm in for quite a show!" She closed her eyes for a few moments, then opened them and nodded. "Alright, mental screen is activated."
  22. Lulu frowned and shook her head. "No, of course not!" It was indeed hard for her to keep that secret from her beloved foster mother, but the telepath had made a promise to a friend. Besides, surely Velocity would understand the need to protect a secret identity? All of the Southern-born heroine's instincts told her to make tea or bring Judy some food, the better to comfort her, but her logical brain told her that Daystar no longer needed sustenance. So for lack of anything better to do, she sat behind Judy, put her arms around her, and laid her head on her shoulder.
  23. NEW STUDENTS Name: Pol Rothstein-Frasier Codename: Shift Year: Sophomore Pronouns: They/them/theirs (varies) Prospective Roommate: I would be comfortable with any roommate, but it is possible they might be uncomfortable with me. If there are any other non-binary students this year, that might be best. Goal: Attending Claremont is going to be a very big change for me, so I am unsure what the future holds. I am very eager to meet other students and learn along with them. I suppose if I had one goal, it would be to help make humans more comfortable with artificial lifeforms. First Impression: I believe in honesty, so I will introduce myself to my fellow classmates in my default form, and then take the opportunity to demonstrate my capabilities. That way, if they would prefer to socialize with me in another form, I could easily adopt it.
