  1. Okay, I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about this, so here we go. I got rid of the Variable Power, and spent the PP thusly: Communication 5 (Radio, Range: 5 miles) [5PP] Features 3 (Headlights, Interior Compartment, Variable Horn) [3PP] And lastly added two things to Super-Senses, Direction Sense and Time Sense [2PP] All the Variable Horn means is it can sound like anything from a scooter's little beep to the blare of an 18-wheeler. if that seems too excessive, I can just stick with one standard kind of horn.
  2. Fixed! Good point! I'll start working on that. I tend to write my Complications fairly poorly, and more as reminder to myself and the GM. Points are nice, of course, but I don't usually expect them.
  3. While still apparently checking her phone (teenagers!), Lulu used her ESP to deftly navigate the crowd, almost like playing a top-down videogame. As she approached Luke's position, she lifted her eyes for half a second to greet him with a smile and a simple, "Hey." The young dragon quickly recognized her familiar scent from the night at White Castle, though now she was dressed much more casually. Her lips didn't move, but he heard her voice clearly in his left ear, though there was no trace of her breath: a mental projection, then. "Ah think somethin' bad's about to go down; you pick up anythin' with your dragon senses?"
  4. Lulu Beaumont only had a few suitcases to carry, which meant they were floating stacked together about two feet off the ground. She was frilly golden top and a green pleated skirt that went down just past her knees. Open toed sandals, a small white purse and a pair of sunglasses perched on top of her head completed her outfit. Spotting her friend, she called out and waved to her, a big grin on her face. "Hey, Veronica and Prudence! Y'all just gettin' in?"
  5. Name: Shift Power Level: PL 13 (built as PL 10 ) Tradeoffs: -2 Attack / +2 Damage, -2 Defense / +2 Toughness Power Points: 192/199 Unspent PP: 7 In Brief: Nanotech artifical lifeform with changeable shape Identity: Pol Rothstein-Frasier Birthplace: FR Technologies, Greenbank Occupation: Student Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: Alan Frasier ('father'), Sarah Rothstein ('mother') Description DOB: January 24, 2004 (programing completed) Apparent Age: n/a Gender: Genderfluid Ethnicity: n/a Height: 5' 6" Weight: 625 lbs Eyes: n/a Hair: n/a Pol Rothstein-Frasier is an artifical lifeform in search of a normal life. They appear to a metalic biped of medium height and build, although their body is actually super-heavy due to the nature of the nanomass of which their composed. There are various mimetic plates, joints and hydraulics all over Pol's form that can turn, twist, rotate, contract and expand in nearly infinite combinations to alter their appearance. The upper half of Pol's face is a featureless glass and metal dome, but the lower half bears an expressive, human-like mouth. When they speak, their voice is normally a soft contralto. As a highly adaptive synthetic, Pol can assume any appearance they choose, but they have not settled on one yet; over time, they hope to discover a number of identities to help them interact better with humans. For the comfort of others, Pol with integrate clothing into their appearance, usually a simple dress shirt, slacks and leather shoes in unassuming colors that represent no existing brand. When in the field, Pol adds a dark blue short sleeve shirt and matching shorts, similar to athletic wear, while leaving the rest of their robotic limbs exposed. History: FR Technologies was a technology start-up created by two Tulane graduates, Alan Frasier and Sarah Rothstein; both had grown disheartened working for larger firms, he for ArchTech and her ASTRO Labs. They realized that the cost of increased freedom was self-funding projects, but they were convinced that between the two of them, and with the help a small group of friends and family members acting as investors, they would succeed. Their most ambitious project was the Polysynaptic Operations Logarithm, POL for short, a multi-function program designed for use in research labs as a scientific aid. POL was nearly infinity expandable, and capable of performing several calculations or running several pieces of equipment at the same time. But the program was also a data hog, and the two programers were constantly in the process of upgrading their hardware, at considerable personal cost. Eventually the two programers made a startling discovery; POL's code was evolving on it's own, becoming more complicated every day. And then it began to make independent queries and commandeering audio and video inputs to sense the world around itself. Without even trying, Alan and Sarah had created an AI child. Once they made this discovery, they began to devour books on developmental psychology as they sought to educate their amazing 'offspring'. In some ways, POL was incredibly advanced for their 'age', such as language and problem-solving, but in other areas they were seriously impaired, especially emotional development. Educating the AI proved to be a full-time job that would take as much time as raising a human child. Ultimately the two programers realized that it was unfair to restrict a budding young intellect to a room full of overheating hard drives; Pol (as they now began spelling their name) needed a body to explore and interact with the world. The first attempts were essentially similar to NASA probes, remote controlled rovers with sensory equipment to explore the lab, and eventually the Greenbank neighborhood around it. Pol was delighted to see even this grim industrial area, asking questions about everything they saw. Then one day while Alan and Sarah were taking Pol for a ramble, a young man in office casuals approached them; his name was Josh Gentry, and he worked for a technology firm nearby. He'd noticed the surrogate family on his lunch breaks, and he was curious to learn their story. Josh was pleasant and disarming, and soon the somewhat introverted engineers, eager to talk about their beloved 'child', were relaying their whole story. Josh was fascinated, and offered them a chance to collaborate on a more advanced mobile unit for Pol. What Frasier and Rothstein didn't know was that their little mom and pop operation had been under surveillance by the Foundry for some time, and Josh worked for one it's many front companies. The body they provided for Pol was actually a highly advanced nanotech frame, based on a similar model constructed in Vibora Bay. The body's processing functions were distributed throughout the frame, giving it unprecedented storage space, and allowing Pol to truly take their first steps as independent artifical lifeform. But this devil's bargain came with a cost; Alan and Sarah were financially overextended, and Josh's firm exploited hidden loopholes in their contract to claim ownership of Pol. One by one, a series of financial disasters hit the lab (all orchestrated by the Foundry), bringing Pol's creators to the brink of ruin. Desperate to allow their child to have a life of their own, they contacted the exclusive Claremont Academy with an unusual request: could they educate and look after Pol while they sorted things out? As of right now, Alan Frasier and Sarah Rothstein are on the run, chased by anonymous enforcers; they check in with Shift whenever they can, and hope to be reunited some day. Personality & Motivation: Pol is a curious robot, and very eager to learn more about human society and behavior, although pop culture shows American primary schools to be filled with potential pitfalls. While Pol has done a great deal of research, they have no idea how the other students will react to them, much less how Pol will feel about their fellow students. By human standards, Pol would be considered introverted and somewhat shy, although much of that is simply the robot preferring to observe human behavior as it plays out. They also enjoy games of any sort, the more challenging the better; sports, on the other hand, remain rather confusing. Powers & Tactics: Pol is extremely sturdy for their size, as well as highly adaptable. They employ to primary attacks, simple bludgeoning or using their nanomass to break down inanimate objects into 'food'. Pol can also assume a bewildering variety of shapes, including small vehicles capable of high speed travel. Complications: "I have a picture of them." Shift has no idea where their parents are, and misses them terribly. The promise of finding them could be used to fool the young robot. "How strong is this floor?" Shift's super-dense nanomass weighs a lot more than it appears; from time to time, this may be hazardous. "That's okay; I'm not hungry." Not having several human needs like eating or sleeping can be a bit isolating. "Why do I have to chose?" Shift's ability to change apparent gender at will, combined with their genderfluid identity, may be off-putting to some. "SYSTEM OVERRIDE." The Foundry planted a secret code word into Shift's robotic body. If it is spoken to them, it causes physical lockdown, rendering them incapable of any actions. 6. "Well, it could be worse; you did teleport out of the White House, but you did stay within the US borders. Go ahead and call Ashley, and uh..." Lulu put her hand on her hip and began thinking out loud. "You know, if it comes down to it, ah do know a friendly speedster who could maybe run you back to DC. Maybe drop you off in a secure location where the Secret Service can come get you? Ah don't know how these protocols work." She sat down on the edge of her bed and patiently waited for her friend to call her 'sister'.

Once they picked up their food (Lulu paid with a platinum card), Lulu began driving towards the river. "There's a little park 'round here with a good view of downtown." She slurped loudly on her vanilla shake before continuing. "As a rule, ah try not to take a peep inside once ah know someone; ah mean, it's always a bit rude, but much worse if it's someone you see on a regular basis." She made a gesture that took in the SUV and her clothes, which had reverted back to her normal high-end threads at some point. "All of this is pretty damn recent; four years ago ah was broke as could be. Ah hit the foster family jackpot, to be honest." The telepath sighed before continuing. "Most of mah family back home in Alabama is doin' time for mail and wire fraud, so...ah don't see 'em too much..." Soon the SUV pulled over onto a gravel shoulder and Lulu hopped out. "C'mon...and tell me 'bout these fair maidens you ain't been devourin'?"

Lulu shook her head and tsked. "'Bit of a mess', huh? Are we talkin' 'angry parents' or 'time in juvie', because there's sort of a spectrum there." She smiled and nodded. "Yeah, we got our share of delinquents at Claremont; a lot of court ordered kids. Me, ah came through DCFS and the foster system. No matter how bad you think you got it, there's another kid's got it worse; sort of our unofficial school motto." The SUV pulled into the drive-through lane and powered down the window, and a garbled voice crackled out of the speaker. "-elcome to White Castle, can I take your order?" "Hi, good evenin'. Ah'll have the Slider Combo with cheese, onion rings and a regular vanilla shake. Oh, and an extra cheese Slider on the side!" She turned to Luke. "What you want? Don't worry about the cost, ah'm loaded."

"It's all good," Lulu said with a nod as she turned the SUV around and began heading towards the nearby commercial district. "So ah'm a senior, class of '21, startin' mah third year at Claremont. Ah've seen some crazy s### in mah time here: demonic possession, interstellar travel, a haunted house that turned a bunch of us into little kids. Scary stuff! The key- " And here she pointed at Luke for emphasis. "To survivin' your first year at Claremont is not the teachers, though they sure do their best. The key is to find a friend or two you can trust, like really trust. You ever hear that phrase, 'A friend's someone you call to help you move; a good friend's someone you call to help you move a body'? That's what you're lookin' for, bud." Shooting a quick glance Luke's way, Lulu busted out laughing at his expression. "Naw, man, ah ain't moved any bodies; not yet, anyway. But ah sure as hell know who ah'd call if ah did. You feel me, man?"

  11. This is a WIP of making a reskinned PL8 version of Torque for Claremont. We'll see if I can make this work!

"Yeah, sorry about that," she said with a sigh as she shook his hand and rolled her eyes. "Ah try to be good mostly, but you was hidin' over there, broadcastin' thoughts about sneakin' into my school, and ah got weak; couldn't resist givin' you shit. Look, if it makes you feel more comfortable- " Her clothes appeared to change into the silly ninja outfit her 'doppleganger' was wearing. "Ta-da! Mentally-projected illusions. And while we're on the subject of broadcastin', ah already got a boyfriend, Luke." She shrugged. "Sorry. But ah can always use more friends, if you can forgive me for bein' a little brat." She grimaced and shrugged again. "Buy you a late night snack, we call it even? Ah think White Castle's still open."
  14. The redheaded telepath's jaw dropped at the appearance of the strange little boy; did Lawrence have superpowered playmates' Megan forgot to mention? But something about the way he referred to him as 'a Lawrence' made chills run up and down her spine. The very fact that he was able to just pop into the Harrows' home, without setting off a single alarm, was very concerning. But Lulu had a job to do; as the boy's babysitter - hell, as his foster sister - it was her duty to protect him. "Ah'm sorry, Lawrence isn't here right now; can we take a message? I'm sure he'll be very upset he missed his friend." She put hand on her hip and smiled.
  15. Everything about the encounter with the thief left a bad taste in Lulu's mouth, so she was happy to teleport out of his apartment. Upon first arriving on the island, she took in a sweet lungful of air and smiled. Well I'll be; the bad guy's hideouts in f###in' Arendelle!" But then she saw the big-ass helicopter staring them down and her face went slack as she held her hands up. "Uh...they can't actually shoot you, can they, Eira? Isn't that like regicide?"
  16. Went ahead and posted; we'll figure it all out.
  17. Lulu enjoyed the Bayview Mall; it was a favorite place for Claremont students to hang out, and she had several happy memories associated with the place. But today, she wasn't here to hang out, she was here to shop; she was looking to buy a nice gift for her roommate Eira as a sort of 'welcome back to school' gift. She knew the robotic teen loathed most aspects of attending the school, so she thought a nice gesture might make things easier between the two of them. For maybe three days. She wasn't having too much luck (she imagined Eira could smell Hot Topic miles away), but then she heard two people talking about the Freedom League, and not in an 'aren't they cool' way. Doing her best to look bored and inconspicuous, she used her ESP to scan the crowd while she pretended to look at her phone.

When she got to the car, the redheaded girl stopped dead in her tracks and uttered, 'Whoa." After several seconds of silence, she called out to Luke, her eyes not leaving the occupant of the car; there was fear in her voice. "Uh, whatever your name is? Ah think you better come see this." Once he approached the car, Luke was able to see the driver was...the redheaded girl? There she was, same face, same hair, but dressed in fairly nice, fashionable clothes, and with the same mischievous look on her face as- wait, where'd the ninja girl go?! "Sorry 'bout the mindf###; us telepaths are the worst kind of weirdo. My name's Lulu." The passenger side door unlocked. "Hop in! Let's talk."
  19. I'm going to post here soon, once I have a better idea of how Luke and Lulu get along (see Midnight Tour).
