This last revelation was even more shocking in some ways; why her and Danica before Leroy? A very cynical part of Lulu wondered if asking her to memory wipe Leroy in case things really went bad was ever on the table. I bet you money Ashley considered it at least once, if only for a milisecond. Not that she'd ever want to hurt her 'sister.' Something that Judy said really bothered the telepath, even if the First Daughter phrased it as rueful joke, and Lulu took both of the energy projector's hands in hers. "Judy honey, you are not a bad person; you were stuck between your loyalty to your family and your faith in Jesus, two ideals you hold very highly, and you agreed to do somethin' that pained you for the sake of your family. That don't make you a bad person; that makes you someone in an impossible situation. And you did your best as long as you could, but a good heart can only endure so much." Then she looked between the two sisters, a look of concern on her face. "Have you figured out how your tellin' the rest of the Cahills?"
-
Soph and I have an idea for a thread where our two characters meet; we still need to figure out the details.

Based on her somewhat limited understanding of the news, Lulu was not a fan of President Cahill (unlike most of her Fox News-loving family), and even though that opinion was even more reinforced now (his own daughter!), she understood the cold, brutal logic behind the 'solution' to the 'problem'. Turning to Danica, she did her best to help. "Look, there's no denyin' this is awful, and it is...seriously messed up, but we have to understand this was not Judy's idea. Ah never met a more honest person in mah life, but if your dad is the President, you don't have a normal life. All them generals and advisors and such think they have a say in how you live your life. You think they'd let Judy date some cute Russian boy? No, they'd freak the f### out!" And then a bolt of realization struck her out of the blue, and she turned to Ashley. "Holy s###! Leroy's a foreign prince from a world that cuts folks' heads off; no wonder you freaked out the first day back!"

At the mention of finding a new job, Lynn sat bolt upright and jabbed a finger at her employee. "Wait one damn second. Do not even think of finding a new job because of this nonsense; you need the money and we're both mature adults. As far as the Moon goes-" She paused and sighed. "Part of my whole 'older than I look' thing is, well...I spent a few years in space. On Mars, to be specific. Mostly down in the subterranean colonies, but also on the surface, and even in some spacecraft." She shrugged, looking slightly embarrassed. "I was...part of the Martian Resistance during the Third Colonial War. Commander, scout, spy, assassin. There's actually a very nice Jewish day school named after me, on Mars. And I think there was a statute and a commemorative plaque." She held up her hands and shrugged. "Anyway, it was in another universe, but I assure, it was pretty damn cool. Well, except for the POW camp with all the copper dust; that was awful..."

"Sure, happy to!" The young telepath was very eager for Adam to see her new look, but she also knew that running around on the deck of a ship was a bad idea, at least if the Pirates of the Caribbean films were remotely accurate. So instead, inspired by the locale and loose and flowing nature of her garments, she tucked her arms behind her back and adopted a rather goofy rolling gait, theoretically inspired by sailors of old, but really more like Gene Kelly twice removed. As she came up on deck humming 'Blow The Man Down', she looked a radiant and very happy, and also quite silly. "Ahoy hoy!"

The truth of Ashley's words hit Lulu as she hugged Judy, and that just made her hug her friend even more fiercely. "You must have felt so alone," she whispered in her ear. "Ah'm just glad they found you a sister who loved you." The sad fact of the matter was, Lulu was no stranger to lying; heck, she'd just done it herself less than ten minutes ago! She understood the difference between lies and half-truths, and the lies some people told themselves or others to make life in this world bearable. She understood the importance of intent, spin, shading and context. And she knew very well the toll that telling lie after lie could have on a person. Judy was one of the sweetest, most innocent girls she'd ever met; it must have been agony for her. Lulu took a step back, and placed a hand on Judy's face, and though she was crying, there was a big smile on the redhead's lips. "'A burden shared is a burden halved'; let me help you carry this one, okay?"
-
"Ooh, pretty!" Lulu eagerly accepted the offered garments and added to the tops she currently had draped over one arm. At the mention of the school play, she grew thoughtful, holding her clothes to her chest. "Ah don't know; ah mean, ah can sing okay, like carry a tune? But my throat sort of tightens up whenever ah'm onstage." She sighed. "What ah'd really like to do is work on the sets, scenery and special effects; you know, with mah illusions? But ah'm worried that won't show up in any pictures or video, which would be weird. Also what if someone doesn't see 'em? It's rare, but it does happen from time to time." A magic wand suddenly appeared in her hand, and with a wave, she transformed the Gap into a 'medieval' version of itself, with the racks now full of puffy shirts, tights and elaborate gowns. No one noticed the change, as she'd made it for her and Olivia alone, so the clueless shoppers perused the 'fancy wares' in ignorance. "Like as cool as this is, it won't show up on any of the security cameras; no evidence that it ever happened." She shrugged. "The one thing ah maybe could help out with be moving scenery with mah TK? Or ah could help someone fly, but there might be, ah don't know, school safety issues with that."

Lulu shrugged as she responded telepathically. - I mean, if you can do it, do it. I trust your judgement. - Looking down at the sweater, she sighed. "You might be right. Red hair and green eyes is easy; red hair and brown eyes, mmm, now that's a challenge!" She started put together a set of sweaters to try on. "So if you could play any part in any story, like from any movie, play or book, who would you want to play? Like ah think ah'd like to play Maid Marian, but only if ah got to shoot arrows and have swordfights and such." She frowned and shook her head. "Ah couldn't just wear pretty dresses and wait to be rescued."

Despite herself, Lynn stiffened a bit. "Ah." Her boxers discretely shifted into a pair of pajama pants that slid down her legs, as she sat up and ran nervous fingers through her hair. "I, uh...s###; this happens a lot, actually." She winced and shook her head. "Not 'a lot' a lot, I mean not...recently. Gah!" The changeling rolled her eyes, took a deep breath, and then turned to face Serena, holding one hand out to count off her points. Her voice was awkward and stilted, filled with a mixture of both humor and frustration. "One: Thank you for the complement! It is nice to hear! Two: I find you attractive as well - yay! Three: I am your boss! This makes things complicated! Four: I have slept with an employee before! Her name was Gretchen! Five: I'm not always a good person! Sometimes I do things that are wrong!" Then she flopped back down on the couch and covered her face with her hand, and sighed a long sigh.
-
Oh s###. Oh s###. OH S###! Lulu jumped up out of her chair and clutched her hands to her mouth, her eyes wide as they darted between the two 'sisters'; it made so much sense, and completely fit the facts, yet still somehow managed to be completely mind-blowing. It took a few seconds for the telepath to catch her breath and resume her seat, tears forming in her eyes from which particular emotion, she could not say. All she could do was look at Ashley, and smile as she softly muttered, "Watchdog." Then she turned back to Judy, and grabbed her warm hand. "Ah forgive you, both; of course, ah forgive you both! You were tryin' to make an impossible situation work, and that's..." Then one last look at Ashley as the full weight of her situation sank in. "Wow, your life must suck!"
-
"Feh! It's your day, be as comfortable as you want." Lynn waved a hand dismissively, and her jeans melted into a pair of men's boxers and her sandals disappeared. She then slid down on the sofa and balanced her plate on her belly. "All of us, and I mean all of us, spend too much time worrying about what other people think of us. Now, I'm not saying that means we should be a##holes, but I do think taking the occasional break from obsessing over our appearances is valid." The beautiful changeling scooped a big spoonful of mushroom fried rice up and completely missed her mouth, getting greasy rice and soy sauce all over Princess Jasmine.
-
"Oh s###," Lulu blurted out, and she quickly tossed 'her' Bible on Ashley's bed as she found a seat. "No one outside this room can hear us; as of right now, all they'll hear is just the sound of the TV and some light chatter." She turned to look at Ashley with a wry grin. "Nothin' goin' into your head or Judy's, ah promise." Other than the small amount of mental energy needed to maintain the auditory illusion, which was hardly any at all, Lulu's attention was focused entirely on Judy; whatever her friend was going to reveal, she was here for her, to the end of the line. Where do I know that from...?
-
Lulu happily accepted Judy's hug; who needed a warm fire when you had a warm friend? But then the very sweet, very Christian girl made a logical assumption that the telepath now had to run with, for better or worse. "Yep, just got this one," she fibbed smoothly as she nodded and flipped through the pages of the erstwhile gift. "Mah old one is kind of, you know, plain, but this one has some beautiful illustrations in it..." There was an....interesting vibe in the room; Judy seemed more relaxed than Lulu had ever seen her, yet also a tad nervous, while Ashley was what, resigned? Oh God. They're going to tell us the truth, whatever it is. Or Judy's becoming a nun...or a missionary...
-
"Thank you for invitin' me," Lulu murmured with a smile; she'd come dressed a little bit nicer than she normally did, in a dark green sweater and some dark wool slacks, and her red hair was pulled back in a ponytail. She also had what looked like a gift bag. "Ah wasn't quite sure of the occasion, so ah-" She pulled out a beautiful vintage illustrated King James Bible with a leather cover; she'd asked Miss Megan to help her pick it out. She wasn't sure which version Judy's denomination normally used, but she hoped at least the lovely illustrations might offer inspiration and reflection.
-
Sorry about that!
-
Lulu laughed when she saw Olivia's cheeks go a bit red; she didn't have to be a telepath to figure out what that was about! She sent a mental reassurance her cousin's way. - You don't have to go into the changing room if you don't want to, silly! Though if you did want to, I could probably just 'blur' anything inappropriate! - She continued in her normal voice as she began checking out some overstock sweaters. "You did lots of theater stuff in high school, right? Like costumes and makeup and such? Ooh, look at this one!" She held a deep green sweater under her chin. "Ah think this one makes mah hair really pop! Whatcha think?" She smoothed it out as she waited for Olivia's opinion.

So we need to start generating some ideas here, lads and lasses! Strong, virile ideas to make the heavens SHAKE! I haven't read through the entire VB book, but are there any cool villains in it that we should start converting to our local 2e Homebrew? Or FCU ones that would be a good fit? Torque is up for anything!
-
'I think we have discussed everything we can today," stated Torque with a nod. "Any further discussion should probably wait until we're all in a place where we feel more comfortable." When the subject of a team name came up, she frowned slightly and shrugged. "I must admit, I hadn't given it much thought; can we be called the Defenders, or is that too obvious?" The shapeshifter took a step towards the door, then stopped and turned back towards the others. "Does anyone require a lift home? I'm much more reasonable than a Uber."

Lulu sighed and shook her head slightly at Judy's powerful combination of positivity and bull-headedness; the Alliance would have officers! But it was impossible not to like the girl, especially considering the size of her heart. The telepath had no interest in a leadership position, but she was still willing to help. "If either of you needs help, like makin' flyers or anythin' like that, just let me know; ah'm always available for cheap labor!" Noticing Nick's discomfort, she reached out to him mentally as she helped herself to another slice of Southern goodness. - I know you're not the best at gatherings like this, but it means a lot that you showed up. Most of us at Claremont are one sort of outsider or another; we all need to stick together, right? -
-
"'Just a job'," Grim inquired, her brow furrowed. None of this seemed to make sense; you can only have so many puppets before you have to find a puppet master. "Are you suggesting you work for someone? Because it seems to me like you're leading this operation. What can you tell us about the nightmare back at Hawthorne's Books?" She increased her height by several inches, her face growing long and feral. "And remember, we can smell if you lie." Well, it was kinda true.
-
"Hey now," Lynn said in a comforting voice as she put an arm around Serena's shoulder. "That's the great thing about being a parent; nobody knows what the f### they're doing!" She took a sip of her drink and winced. "Look, we're all making it up as we go along, right? The fact that you're worrying so much about all this, that your stomach's all twisted up in knots? That shows you care. You're going to make mistakes, and you're going to agonize over them. The ones who're convinced they're great parents? Ninety-five percent of them are f###ing their kids' lives up; I guarantee it." She sighed as she rolled her glass back and forth between her palms. "Bill and I made so many mistakes with our kids; I was the indulgent parent while he was the strict one. Jewish mother, right? I'm always going to pamper my little noodles. They were constantly getting mixed messages from us, plus my daughter kinda hated me for years because I looked so frickin' perfect all the time. I never thought about the impact looking like that all the time would have on my daughter; I was just being vain and selfish." Lynn set her glass down and sighed. "This thing with Mia and Jenna, it's going to be rough for a while, no question. Jenna needs a good role model now, but on the other hand, how can Mia not feel weird about it? You're going to have to give them both some time to sort it all out. Thank God it sounds like Mia's got some good friends at Claremont she can lean on for a while when it gets tough; Jenna doesn't really have that yet." And here she gave Serena an affectionate shoulder shake. "And remember, you're not alone in this; you've always got me to talk to, am I right?"
-
There was a lot of weirdness going on, and Lulu was struggling to keep it all straight in her head; the one thing everyone seemed to agree on was the room was bad, and they should probably leave. One school of thought was that Daniac's shell might be safer than anywhere else, so the tiny redhead reached out a pudgy hand, grabbed Roly-Poly Pumpkin Davyd with her mind, and slid him across the floor towards the entrance of the extradimensional shell. Even as she did it, she felt oddly jealous, because the Slip N Slide style of movement looked awfully fun. "In you go!"

Lulu sighed with relief, because she'd learned that both Davyd and herself could be mature about things. A big warm smile spread across her face as she reached out and grabbed his hand. "Great! Awesome! Let's just have a great day, alright? Oh, and don't bother with the accent; just be yourself...ish." Leading her 'cousin' by the hand, she practically ran into the mall, which was full of shoppers young and old. Lulu and 'Olivia' looked like any other pair of female friends excited to be window shopping. "So normally you just make your clothes yourself, right? You never try things on?" From the look of it, she was heading in the direction of the Gap.

"This is so cool!" No matter how jet set-y her life had become living with the Harrows, at her heart Lulu was still a small town girl, and being in the heart of 'the greatest city in the world' nearly took her breath away. "Oh, right, let's have a look 'round." Her eyes went unfocused as her senses quickly scanned the neighborhood, taking in so many wonders. At last, she squeezed Mia's arm. "Ah think ah found the perfect place! And we get to walk through Times Square to get there!" With an unusual confidence for a first time visitor, the Southern gal led her friend down Broadway, pointing in delight at the giant posters. "Oh my Lord, they've got the Frozen musical! And Aladdin! And Beetlejuice?! Oh, we have to see that, Mia!" Soon they arrived in front of a very New York-looking pizzeria known simply as 'Joe's Pizza', and Lulu rushed up to the counter and grinned at the middle-aged man behind it. "Hi! It's our first time in New York!"
