  1. "Oh, all right, ah'll have a look 'round for him," said Lulu as she popped a fry in her mouth. She took a deep breath, and then her eyes went out of focus and rolled partially back in her head as she sent her senses roaming about the station. Just to be on the safe side, she used her 'rapid scan' technique to take in the facility more quickly. But after a few seconds, she grunted in surprise. "Huh. That's funny." Then she furrowed her brow and pushed, small beads of sweat popping out of her forehead. Suddenly her eyes went wide and she shot up out if her seat, knocking over her tray. "Holy f###ing s###! Something happened to Leroy, and Ramesh is up to somethin'!" She stood in a crouch, fingers curled and head cocked to one side, as she attempted to hear what Ramesh was saying.

  3. This is the first time Lulu's used this power IC to look for someone; how do we want to do this?
  4. Heh, that's fine. As a fellow sneaky-sneak, she respects Strix need for secrecy.

  6. This is a resubmit of Grimalkin; other than a few minor fluff changes, the main addition is her new Summon 16 AP.
  7. EDIT: This post "removed" because, as of 2021/10/18, Grimalkin no longer has Duplication. But I'm keeping it in case Heritage decides to Stunt a Duplicate effect, or bring it back in full. -Dok
  8. Player Name: Heritage Character Name: Grimalkin Power Level: 10/15 (250/250PP) [291] Tradeoffs: +2 Defense/-2 Toughness, +2 Attack/-2 Damage Unspent PP: 0 In Brief: Shapeshifting faerie with a human soul Alternate Identity: Lynn Epstein Identity: Secret Birthplace: Atlantic City, NJ Occupation: Bookstore owner Affiliations: Former member of the Knights of Freedom and the Interceptors, currently freelance. Former partner of the Shrike. Family: Elaine Epstein (mother, deceased), Harold 'Butch' Epstein (father), Benjamin Epstein (brother), Edna Epstein (sister). William 'Colt' Reynolds (husband, deceased), Zachary Reynolds (son), Ruth Reynolds (daughter), Jonathon Reynolds (son) Description: DOB: June 17, 1988 Apparent Age: As Lynn, early thirties; as Grim, late teens Actual Age: Over 100 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'3" Weight: 122 lbs. Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown; shoulder-length and curly as Lynn, short and spiky as Grimalkin Lynn is a lovely young woman who typically wears comfortable jeans, T-shirts, hiking boots and a denim or suede jacket by day, but is wrapped in skintight leather of black and midnight blue, complete with domino mask, when she prowls the dirty streets at night. Her ears are (normally) pointed and tapered; as Grimalkin, they are clearly visible, but 'Lynn' keeps the tips discretely hidden under her hair, though she can always alter them in a pinch. History: A young runaway from Atlantic City, Lynn Epstein turned to a life of panhandling and petty crime to survive; one day it became too much, and she crawled into a dark alley on a chill winter night to die, but instead awoke the next day transformed! For many months she used her powers selfishly, living the high life and swindling 'suckers', until one night she saw a young streetwalker attacked; the FCPD's profound indifference to the crime appalled her, and she swore that night to use her powers to help those the Powers That Be would not help. For several years, she was a member of the West End-based superhero team known as the Interceptors, along with Dynamo, Fulcrum, Jack of All Blades and William 'Colt' Reynolds. She eventually married Reynolds in 2011, and retired from active crime-fighting, and had not been seen in Freedom City since. Upon her return in 2014, Lynn reopened Silberman's Books, the store she inherited from her grandfather on her twenty-second birthday; the building had been shuttered since she and Colt where married in it 2011. Lynn currently occupies the apartment above the shop. She revealed to her friends that time moved differently on Colt's world, where she'd been for the last three years, and she's now over one hundred, having raised a family with her husband, who has since died at age 99 back in his home dimension. Lynn recently ended her relationship with Gretchen McDaniels, her former sidekick the Shrike, who relocated to the Emerald Cities, though she hopes one day they can try again to make it work. In addition, due to a traumatic event in the summer of 2018, she lost access to some of her previous powers, which will take some getting used to after all these years. Her mother died of ovarian cancer in September 2020, and her father is currently living with her. Personality & Motivation: Being that she's a shapeshifter, it's perhaps not surprising that Lynn is rather hard to pin down; she lives very much in the 'now', making few great plans and doing her best not to dwell on the past, even though she still misses Colt terribly. Her emotions are intensely felt, and she can switch from playful to angry to sad almost in the same sentence. Lynn also finds comfort in the little things, everyday wonders like bike rides in the park and lazy afternoons spent lying in the grass; she never seems to have enough of the simple pleasures, which makes her cherish them all the more. Since becoming a mother and having to leave her family behind on another world, she has taken a very motherly attitude towards her friends and coworkers. As a crimefighter, Grim is driven by many things: the desire to see a wasted life blossom once more, an end to cruelty, injustice and indifference, and a strong personal desire to constantly improve her technique. She likes teaming up with other heroes to see how she measures up and maybe pinch a trick or two, but she is frequently very self-critical of her own performance, to the point of downplaying her many successes. Like a trickster goddess with a vengeful streak, her personal brand of justice might seem somewhat capricious, but she would never willfully take a human life in the pursuit of the law. Powers & Tactics: Grimalkin's powers come from her faerie nature; some of them are innate, such as her keen senses and high tolerance to cold, but many of them come from her ability to manipulate glamour, the very essence of the fey. Seeing as her body is now wholly composed of glamour, she can alter it in a number of ways, such as completely changing her appearance, making herself nearly undetectable, or eluding capture. She can also create various objects seemingly out of thin air (actually her own glamour), which she uses as props, furniture or just her own amusement. In combat, Grim prefers to use stealth to take better advantage of her claws; when forced into a 'fair fight', she uses her wits and charm to befuddle her foes to level the playing field. She has also learned how to use glamoured objects to capture or obstruct her opponents. She has also recently discovered how to adjust the density of her glamour to pass through small cracks, avoid certain types of damage and even fly, albeit slowly. Complications: Enmity of the Fey: As a fey with a human soul, and thus the capacity for genuine creativity, Grim is resented by most faerie creatures, and sometimes even considered an abomination. Momma Bear: Grim is very protective of those she cares about, especially friends, family and the staff of her bookstore. Prejudice (The Rich): Due to her lower middle class upbringing, Grim frequently has a hard time sympathizing with the well-to-do. Secret Identity: Though she doesn't go to the lengths some heroes go to protect it, Grim does try to keep the two sides of her life from intersecting. Sometimes it even works. Yente: Grim is in fact a Jewish grandmother, and sometimes cannot help herself from meddling in people's lives, i.e. trying to patch up relationships, acting as matchmaker, etc. My Old Man: Grim's recently widowed father is currently staying with her; this could prove to be problematic. 10. Casey cleared her throat. "Well, let's see. Like Fulcrum said, I am strong, tough and durable, and I can fly. I'm also very fast, mostly good for doing things like all my homework in a matter of seconds, though that has a lot more uses than that, of course. I have a few more powers, but you probably have that stuff on file..." The blonde heroine paused for a few seconds as she tried her best to sum herself up in terms of perhaps her philosophy or work ethic. "I've been doing this 'heroic thing' for a while now; I don't think that makes me an expert, but I'd like to think that's given me some insight. I was raised a fairly liberal Christian in a military family; my dad is also another hero. My mother is a nurse and my grandfather an investigative reporter. And, lastly, I am also a Girl Scout. I think all of these people and organizations helped shape my morality, my sense of duty and service. But it's not until your out in the field, facing danger and saving lives, that those ideals are tested." After a few moments of silence, she shrugged. "I like to think that I'm a good person, and that I'm good at my job; from time to time I've found myself doing some things that my younger self would find scandalous in the name of good, but I don't think I've crossed any lines that I can't go back over. I try to be mindful in my actions, to never be so pragmatic that I miss the point and do more harm than good, but I can't say for sure that I always succeed. But, I think as long as I'm still asking these questions, and not thinking the rules don't apply to me because I'm 'special', hopefully I'll remain a force for good." She shrugged again and smiled sheepishly, hands clasped before her. "And, that's me."
  11. Lulu decided that despite the ease with which she could get alcohol in this scenario (assuming it didn't kill her), that she'd be good and order something easy, like a cheeseburger, fries and a Coke. Noting Davyd's transformation, she gave him the applause he deserved. "Nice work, Davyd! We just gotta help you crack that growin', shrinkin' trick! It'll be cool once you can make yourself into like a mouse or somethin'. Stealth ops!"
  12. Grim's got a pretty tight build right now, but an idea has occured to me. If she and Shrike break their Communication Link, making their breakup official [?], she has 1PP freed up, enough to add an AP to one of her powers. This realization reminded me of an idea I had a long time ago, Grim being able to make a single duplicate. If we built the AP off of her Create Object, she'd have 16PP to work with, enough to make a 240PP duplicate if she keeps the Feedback flaw, which I'm fine with since it's consistent with the base power. This is only 10PP short of Grim's original build, much of which can covered by removing Feats like Benefit and Equipment that she logically wouldn't have anyway. Keeping Dimensional Pocket off the build lops off another 3PP, and makes logical sense to me, and then Duplicates can't have the Duplicate power, which saves another 1PP. I think taking one PP out of Immunity to lose Aging makes the most sense, as a Duplicate that's Sustained will never age anyway. So this can definitely work! I think my main question would be what's the best way to write up the dupe? Spoiler text in the main page or a second simplified sheet after her main sheet, i.e. a full resubmit?
  13. "I think I miss my Cloak of Mystery," Shrike said with a smirk. "I could do quick change tricks that saved a buttload of time. And looked pretty hot." However addressing the subject of Grimalkin, she drew a long sigh; that hint of cheeky fun evaporated. "Yes. We were partners. In more ways than one." She looked up at Justice, a twinkle of moisture in her eyes, and shrugged. "I needed more space." Then she stiffened up a bit and motioned towards the door. "Let's get back out there, and deal with this annoying s###."
  14. Yes, of course! Ye gods, the potential this character has!
  15. Another concern: I was thinking of giving her a few powers, such as Ranged Damage and Leaping, that she could only use in her humanoid form, but it seems like 'Limited: Can Only Use in Human Form' might be stretching the definition of 'Limited'.
  16. 'Metamind'? Oh no, he was a f###ing telepath! What did Lynn sat about these? "Break their concentration as fast as you can, especially if they're using people as puppets." Well, time to finally try out her red grenades in a hostage situation! Floating directly over the telepath, she called down to him, more than a little cocky. "Hey, Metamind! Eat this!" A glowing egg-like mass of light appeared in her hand, and she dropped it straight down at her target. Once it was at his head level, she squeezed her thumb like she was holding a detonator, and there was a blinding flash of light that ignored the telepath's victims but sent it's full power into his body.
  17. So at Grumble's suggestion, going to shift Torque into a 180 slot, which is much less restrictive. I'm interested in the Matter-Eater power on page 172 of UP, and having it only be available in her 'human' form. It works well with her Weakness, and could prove useful. Does it violate any house rules? I'd probably cap it at 10 ranks.
  18. Shrike is going to lob one of her magic bombs at Metamind. To Hit with Magic Bomb: 1d20+10=22 This requires a DC 21 Toughness save only from the people she wants to hit. So she can drop it right on top of him and not affect any of his mind controlled victims!
  19. Can I Delay my action until after Metamind? Gretch hasn't even gotten the lay of the land yet.
  20. Friday afternoons were normally a bit slower at Silberman's Northwest, or at least they were up in the main store. Downstairs in the cafe, however, things were jumping. The live music and delicious caffeine-based drinks were a big hit with the University Hill crowd, and it was only 4 pm! The store's manager, Gretchen McDaniels, had jumped behind the bar to help knock out a few mochas when someone shouted to turn on the TV over the small music stage. At the sight of the chaos on the Riverfront, Gretchen drew a long sigh. "S###." Turning to Callie Ann, the other barista, she told her to borrow a Merge from upstairs for backup, and quickly excused herself to change. - - - Soon an armored figure wrapped in silver and black was floating over the Riverfront, a bird-like mask covering the upper half of her face as a cloak billowed behind her. Never one for witty banter, she simply called out to the so-called 'Upstarts'. "Hey ###holes! Stop throwing cars!" Then she raised a gloved hand to acknowledge the two other heroes. "Hey!"
  21. As soon as Bee released her hug, Miracle Girl stepped in and offered one of her own. "It's going to be alright, miss. I promise you thst we will do everything in our power to restore Mohinder to his old self." Then she reached down and pulled out a reporter's notebook and a pen. "So for starters, can we get your full name, and Mohinder's as well? And then, if you could tell us the time and place the attack took place. Oh, and if his girlfriend was a witness, we'll need to speak with her as well. Any bit of information could be helpful."
  22. The door was locked, but a few seconds later, she heard a muffled voice call out from deep within the apartment. "Moira? Is that you?" A few seconds after that, she heard the slap of rapid barefoot footfalls approaching, and then the sliding of various chains and bolts before the door popped open to reveal the startled but still pleased face of Lynn Epstein, flawlessly beautiful as always, with her long curly hair up in a ponytail. It was clear she'd been relaxing, judging by her sleeveless Princess Jasmine T-shirt and FCU sweatpants. In an instant, she leaped onto her old friend with a crushing, full-body hug. "Omigod, girl, how're you doin'?"
  23. In response to Judy's question, Lulu began to search through her phone's gallery for some of the selfies she took while in space; she found a great one of her and one of the giant teddy bear-like aliens (Was it Lu Chu? It was probably Lu Chu.) making duck faces and flashing the V sign, or as close to those things as the Li could manage. With a grin, she shared it with Judy, and apparently Danica! - Oh hi Danica! This is an alien I met!- -They're called the Li, and you just want to squeeze them ? In response to Judy's other question, she sighed and shook her head. -i don't know. This summer's been great, but I do miss everyone! ?- -it'll be great to see y'all again, for sure!-
