  1. Intimidation check vs. Rahkesh: 1d20+5=19 Edit: per chat with Ari, switching to Diplomacy for a 34!
  2. As amazing as everything about the tour had been so far, nothing could keep the look of pure joy off of Lulu's face when she spotted her first Li. They're teddy bears? Must...not...hug... This was too much for Lulu; the students had come how many lightyears from Earth, to be part of this historic event, and now their killjoy chaperone was trying to shut them out? This was bull####! Full of righteous indignation, she addressed Rahkesh directly, hands on her hips and her gaze locked in. "Ah'm sorry, but ah thought the whole point of bringin' students from Earth into space was for an educational experience, Dr. Chawla. And now, when our gracious hosts are offerin' Claremont students a literal chance-of-a-lifetime tour durin' a first contact situation, you're sayin' 'no'? This is...a unique opportunity, and you want us to stay in our rooms? How are we supposed to learn about other species, and represent our planet as heroes, if we don't have direct experience?" Then she sighed dramatically aand shook her head. "Ah mean, Lord and Lady Harrow are goin' to be so sad ah wasn't able to fully benefit from this trip..."

"Yeah, gelato sounds great," the bikini-clad fae chimed in. She made a sort of 'unzipping' motion, starting at her head, and her previous look quickly returned as she stepped out into the market. "If you're going to make clothes, I suggest some design classes, maybe even some textile science stuff. The animators at Pixar always do a ton of research before they start any project; you have to understand how something works before you can create it out of whole cloth." Lynn grabbed a few more choice veggies and a little basket of the plumpest, juiciest strawberries she'd ever seen before the group made its way towards the gelato stand. "Hey, if you guys want, we can put our veggies in my interdimensional vault; it'll keep 'em cool and fresh while we splash around at the beach."

Lynn literally laughed out loud at Mia's invitation, but without any sort of mockery of malice. "Kid, I am like the Cher of the superhero community; I do more costume changes than, well, Cher. Here, lemme-" She ushered them around a corner, then stepped inbetween two stalls, blocking her from any view other than straight ahead. After cranning her neck to make sure there were no witnesses, she waved her arms in a flourish, transforming her look with a swirl of mist into a wide straw hat, oversized sunglasses, tiny black bikini and pair of open-toed wedges. Even her shoulder bag was now a blue canvas tote. Tilting down her shades to give them both a playful look, the changeling grinned. "See? You grow up in Atlantic City, you know how to beach."

"A little bit," Lynn admitted, scrunching up her nose and holding her thumb and forefinger about half an inch apart. "But that's perfectly normal; keeping kosher kept me connected to my culture and spirituality, even all those years when my stupid faerie body wouldn't let me eat. Making fresh challah for my family on Shabbat, or making my grandmother's mahzo ball soup for my kids when they were sick, kept me sane." Then an idea struck her, and she got very excited, slapping Serena repeatedly on the arm. "Oh, oh, you guys have to come over for Shabbat dinner some Friday; I haven't done a proper one since Gretchen moved out, because it's no fun if you're alone. How about it?" Could those brown eyes get any bigger?

"They played the shiksa card?" Lynn shook her head sadly. "Ugh, old Jews are the worst. Well, they can be; some of them are super-cool." She winked, but then her eyes went wide as they finally approached the stalls. "Omigod, check out those eggplants! You get the best eggplant here in Jersey." And it was true; they were beautiful, as were the cucumbers and radishes beside them.
  8. Finally focusing on the whole reason they were down here, Lulu allowed her shared illusion to fade away. "So how we gettin' down there, Ronnie? Are we usin' some kind of mini-sub, or are we scuba divin'? 'Cause ah never done any ocean divin' before." The young redhead was excited by the thought of seeing the sunken ship, but she wanted to be safe, too.
  9. Lulu had grown a little quiet; she'd taken Ortilac up on his offer, and was learning some truly amazing things about the Coalition and life out in space. It wasn't until Nicole addressed her directly that the redhead returned to the real world. "Oh, ah don't know if drinkin' is such a good idea, especially in outer space," she said as she looked over to their chaperone and smiled sweetly. But in their heads, her fellow students heard a very different message. -My family's had a whiskey still operating out in the woods as long as I can remember; I've got no problem with sneaking out for a sip!- "Ah mean, we're hear to learn, right? Asteroids an' stuff sounds pretty cool."

"Oh, I love a good cabbage roll," Lynn said with an appreciative groan. "My bubbe has an amazing recipe from back in Poland; we'll have to swap recipes!" This led to an impromptu rendition of 'Hava Nagila', as she was talking recipes like an old woman, and feeling particularly Jewish just then. After the moment has passed, she turned to more serious subjects, raising her hand to be recognized by the chair. "Okay, point of order! On the gelato question: when, how much and what flavors? I need answers now." She playfully drove her fist into her palm to show the gravity of the situation.

As soon as the words had left her mouth, Lynn instantly regretted them. You know what teenagers really like? Adults pointing out unusual things about their appearance! If you needed any more proof she was a mom, you had it now. "I'm sorry, Mia, that was rude as hell; tall girls are cool. In fact, I make myself tall all the time." She held a hand over her head. "Five eight is about as tall as I can go and still look normal, since I can't increase my mass; taller than that, I start to look scary." Serena's compliment made her grin, and oh what a smile it was! The changeling tended to smile with her whole body. "Oh, thanks! Yeah, I spent a lot of time out West on Otherworld, and the style kinda stuck. So, what are we shopping for today? I don't anything specific planned, besides salad fixings "
  12. Lulu sat back on her haunches, the top of her head grazing the 'ceiling' of the shell, hands on her hips. "Huh." She didn't see any bottles labelled 'Drink Me' nearby, which was mildly disappointing. She could use her sight to see beyond the door, but that seemed rude. Plus who knew how her powers worked in another dimension? So she acted like the polite Southern girl she was, and rang the doorbell.

For several decades while living on Otherworld with Bill, Lynn Epstein was unable to eat human food; apparently it was a side effect of her increasingly Fae nature. Sure, she could conjure food, and it could taste delicious, but it was incapable of making you feel truly full. So she made do, and took vicarious enjoyment in watching her family eat her wonderful Jewish home cooking. But then last summer, during her disastrous road trip vacation with Gretchen, the changeling had to sacrifice some of her glamour to save her girlfriend's life. And even though that was the beginning of the end of their relationship (or whatever it was you called it), one positive side effect was a return of her mortal appetite. Since then, she'd once again begun shopping for food, something she missed so much. And whenever she could, she loved to take in a local farmer's market. At five foot three, with a petite frame and brown curly hair, Lynn definitely fit Serena's description. This afternoon, she wore a white peasant blouse with embroidered blue floral designs, a denim shirt and Teva hiking sandals. She also wore a black Stetson and big sunglasses, and had a hemp shopping bag over one shoulder. She was indeed energetic, and almost unnaturally attractive. "Hey, stranger," she cheerfully called out as she waved at the pair; however, once she got a glimpse of Mia, her reaction was comedically extreme. "Holy s###, you're tall! I take it that comes from your dad's side?"
  15. "Any sort of lodging would be lovely right about now," said the Eel. "However it does seem like I'm rather short on funds; could either of you loan me a few bob until I get back on my feet? I realize it's a lot to ask of someone you just met, but I'm not sure what else to do right now." And it was true; unless she started stealing to acquire money (something the Eel was fairly sure she'd be good at), she would need a leg up, at least for a week or two. She needed a more permanent source of income, but that would have to wait for the moment; she needed to take care of her basic needs first.
  16. -Hi, Davyd! I try not to pry, but if you're actually calling out to me, I will hear you, silly!- Other than one arched eyebrow, Lulu in no way acknowledged the interaction out loud, instead focusing on the surface conversation. "Oh, like in that movie Shakespeare in Love? That was a good'n!" Then she smiled when a fun thought struck her. "But hey, you could prob'ly do a great Desdemona now! With your shapeshiftin'? You could a do a one man show, an' play all the parts! And I could do all the scenery!" The more she thought about it, the cooler it seemed, and she sent another message Davyd's way in her excitement. -Just imagine it!- And with bit a thought, Lulu used her illusion powers to redecorate their table to look like something out of a renn faire: the wooden floor strewn with straw, the cheaper steel and Formica now thick timbers. All the students wore 'period' costumes: pretty peasant dresses for girls, and doublet and hose for the boys. No one else seemed to notice the change; it was for Davyd and Lulu alone.
  17. Lynn shrugged a very Jewish shrug. "It's all good." She started to get out of her chair, then stopped. "He's right, you know. About the power of atonement? I should know; we've got a whole holiday all about it." She came out from behind the desk and stretched, and for just a fleeting second, the changeling seemed much older, like a grandmother with creaky bones. But then it was gone, and she looked like a teenager in her enthusiasm as she scampered over to the glass pastry case. "Oh wait, let me give you something to go with your coffee! Do you like cinnamon rolls? Ours our great!" She deftly fished out a roll the size of a softball, and put it in a cardboard box. "There you go! Enjoy it now, or take it home to share with your girl. Put it in the microwave for 20 seconds, and you'll plotz!"
  18. Lulu had been whispering silly things to Adam for a bit, but then something Davyd said made her prick up her ears. "Hold up, hold up; you can't just fly past that story and keep on goin' like it was nothin'. If there's a tale to tell, let's hear it!" Then she leaned across the table towards the young shapeshifter, one thin eyebrow raised, a look of mischief in her dark brown eyes. "What's this about you wearin' a corset?" The telepathic redhead wasn't always super-forthcoming about her own life, but she loved a chance to hear about somebody else's, especially if it was funny, weird or embarrassing.
  19. As the others started talking, Lynn had actually fallen silent, her eyes unfocused; from time to time her lips moved slightly, or she would jerk her head a bit. Finally as Richard and Holly made ready to depart, she snapped out of it. "I'm sorry! Telepathic phone call with the EC office!" She rose from her seat and shook Richard's hand, and gave Holly a friendly wink and a wave. As they left, the shopkeeper resumed her seat. "So I was just in contact with my better half, as it were, and she gave you a clean bill of health: no criminal record as an adult, no crimes committed in your costumed persona that lead to death or permanent injury, etc." Then she shrugged. "Now, is she happy that I want to hire another ex-con; no, but we agreed that I run my store and she runs her store, so..." She drummed her hands on her armrests. "So yeah, drop off your resume when you get a chance, and we can get this party started, alright?"
  20. "I said 'or something', Little Miss Thang," Lynn playfully groused as she waggled her head back and forth, then she grimaced. "Electronics, though-" She sucked air in between her teeth. "If you have a set of earbuds on you, I could shape something around them, but I can't do metal, sweetie. Just plain ol' cat ears are easy, though." The changeling drew an arc in the air with her finger, conjuring a pink and blue cat ears headband directly onto Holly's head. Then, as an afterthought, she smirked and conjured an identical set on Richard's head. Then she turned to Serena. "My kids begged me to let them get tats, but Conservative Jews don't do that, so..." She shrugged. "But once they figured out shifting, they went nuts, so it all worked out in the end. Here-" Lynn held her arms up in the air, and two simply beautiful sleeves of ink scrolled up out of her T-shirt; the colors were bold, the designs based on classic Japanese paintings of waves. "See, once you can do it on your own, it's less exciting. Still pretty cool, though." She looked at her own handiwork and whistled slightly. "Ooh, those turned out nice."
  21. Lynn could see Serena was a bit overwhelmed, but was glad she seemed to be considering her offer. "See, that's the thing people don't realize; if you're a 'good guy', you're a good guy all the time. I swear I help more people out of costume than in. And sure, drop off you resume," she said with a shrug. "I mean, it's retail...pretty much anyone can do it. But yeah, there's paperwork and whatnot, so we need to go through that. Even if you only work part-time, I still give you benefits." A business card appeared between her flicked fingers, which she handed over to Serena. "You can just email it to me, if that's easier." The changeling then turned her attention to Holly's very important question. "Nah, I'm not as versatile as a Grue; most of the changes I make are cosmetic. I used to be able to shrink down into a pixie form, like Tinker Bell, but that's a lot harder for me to do now. But I can still look like just about anyone; I can also do animals and inanimate objects, as long as they're about my size."" She placed her chin on her fist. "You like impressions? I do good impressions. Or I can make you something cool, like a unique toy or something."
  22. "Oh, poor little turnovers! Well, they sacrificed themselves nobly so we could snack on them." The ever-hungry MG began to fish out several good-sized chunks of goodness before remembering her manners, which made her a little pink in the cheeks. "Oh, I'm sorry! I'm Miracle Girl. Or, uh, Casey if we're sharing first names. Very nice to meet you, Mona." Using a touch of her heatvision, the blonde paragon heated up her tasty nibbles until they steamed like they were fresh out of the oven. Before she popped the first piece into her mouth, she hesitated for a moment and looked to the other two. "Uh...either of you want a warm-up? Makes 'em taste like home!"
  23. Lynn leaned forward, her hands resting on top of the desk. "Look, I start people at fifteen an hour, with medical, dental and vision. I don't need to make a profit, because I'm independently wealthy; I just run this place 'cause I love, and because it gives me a chance to help out folks like you." She pointed upstairs. "I've also got a one bedroom upstairs, if you're looking to relocate." She shrugged. "Just sayin'."
