  1. Player Name: Heritage Character Name: Grimalkin Power Level: 10/15 (250/250PP) [286] Tradeoffs: +2 Defense/-2 Toughness, +2 Attack/-2 Damage Unspent PP: 0 In Brief: Shapeshifting faerie with a human soul Alternate Identity: Lynn Epstein Identity: Secret Birthplace: Atlantic City, NJ Occupation: Bookstore owner Affiliations: Former member of the Knights of Freedom and the Interceptors, currently freelance. Former partner of the Shrike. Family: Elaine Epstein (mother), Harold 'Butch' Epstein (father), Benjamin Epstein (brother), Edna Epstein (sister). Zachary Reynolds (son), Ruth Reynolds (daughter), Jonathon Reynolds (son) Description: DOB: June 17, 1988 Apparent Age: As Lynn, early thirties; as Grim, late teens Actual Age: Over 100 Gender: Female Height: 5'3" Weight: 122 lbs. Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown; shoulder-length and curly as Lynn, short and spiky as Grimalkin Lynn is a lovely young woman who typically wears comfortable jeans, T-shirts, hiking boots and a denim or suede jacket by day, but is wrapped in skintight leather of black and midnight blue, complete with domino mask, when she prowls the dirty streets at night. Her ears are (normally) pointed and tapered; as Grimalkin, they are clearly visible, but 'Lynn' keeps the tips discretely hidden under her hair, though she can always alter them in a pinch. History: A young runaway from Atlantic City, Lynn Epstein turned to a life of panhandling and petty crime to survive; one day it became too much, and she crawled into a dark alley on a chill winter night to die, but instead awoke the next day transformed! For many months she used her powers selfishly, living the high life and swindling 'suckers', until one night she saw a young streetwalker attacked; the FCPD's profound indifference to the crime appalled her, and she swore that night to use her powers to help those the Powers That Be would not help. For several years, she was a member of the West End-based superhero team known as the Interceptors, along with Dynamo, Fulcrum, Jack of All Blades and William 'Colt' Reynolds. She evemtually married Reynolds in 2011, and retired from active crime-fighting, and had not been seen in Freedom City since. Upon her return in 2014, Lynn reopened Silberman's Books, the store she inherited from her grandfather on her twenty-second birthday; the building had been shuttered since she and Colt where married in it 2011. Lynn currently occupies the apartment above the shop. She revealed to her friends that time moved differently on Colt's world, where she'd been for the last three years, and she's now over one hundred, having raised a family with her husband, who has since died at age 99 back in his home dimension. Lynn is currently in a semi-open long-distance relationship with Gretchen McDaniels, her former sidekick the Shrike, who has temporarily relocated to the Emerald Cities; what this holds for their relationship, no one knows. In addition, due to a traumatic event in the summer of 2018, she lost access to some of her previous powers, which will take some getting used to after all these years. Personality & Motivation: Being that she's a shapeshifter, it's perhaps not surprising that Lynn is rather hard to pin down; she lives very much in the 'now', making few great plans and doing her best not to dwell on the past, even though she still misses Colt terribly. Her emotions are intensely felt, and she can switch from playful to angry to sad almost in the same sentence. Lynn also finds comfort in the little things, everyday wonders like bike rides in the park and lazy afternoons spent lying in the grass; she never seems to have enough of the simple pleasures, which makes her cherish them all the more. Since becoming a mother and having to leave her family behind on another world, she has taken a very motherly attitude towards her friends and coworkers. As a crimefighter, Grim is driven by many things: the desire to see a wasted life blossom once more, an end to cruelty, injustice and indifference, and a strong personal desire to constantly improve her technique. She likes teaming up with other heroes to see how she measures up and maybe pinch a trick or two, but she is frequently very self-critical of her own performance, to the point of downplaying her many successes. Like a trickster goddess with a vengeful streak, her personal brand of justice might seem somewhat capricious, but she would never willfully take a human life in the pursuit of the law. Powers & Tactics: Grimalkin's powers come from her faerie nature; some of them are innate, such as her keen senses and high tolerance to cold, but many of them come from her ability to manipulate glamour, the very essence of the fey. Seeing as her body is now wholly composed of glamour, she can alter it in a number of ways, such as completely changing her appearance, making herself nearly undetectable, or eluding capture. She can also create various objects seemingly out of thin air (actually her own glamour), which she uses as props, furniture or just her own amusement. In combat, Grim prefers to use stealth to take better advantage of her claws; when forced into a 'fair fight', she uses her wits and charm to befuddle her foes to level the playing field. She has also learned how to use glamoured objects to capture or obstruct her opponents. Complications: Enmity of the Fey: As a fey with a human soul, and thus the capacity for genuine creativity, Grim is resented by most faerie creatures, and sometimes even considered an abomination. Momma Bear: Grim is very protective of those she cares about, especially friends, family and the staff of her bookstore. Prejudice (The Rich): Due to her lower middle class upbringing, Grim frequently has a hard time sympathizing with the well-to-do. Secret Identity: Though she doesn't go to the lengths some heroes go to protect it, Grim does try to keep the two sides of her life from intersecting. Sometimes it even works. Yente: Grim is in fact a Jewish grandmother, and sometimes cannot help herself from meddling in people's lives, i.e. trying to patch up relationships, acting as matchmaker, etc. Wish You Were Here: Lynn is really struggling with Gretchen's request for more space, and is not a fan of long-distance relationships. 2. This is a possible rebuild/depower of Grim, bringing her back to her roots. I really miss seeing her climbing walls, running across rooftops and mixing it up with bad guys. The biggest changes are dropping her ESP, pixie form, Rage and Teleportation; this will take some time, and probably get a little messy

  4. Estelle finally released her prey, the long golden strands retreating to coil into a thick French braid, her preferred style when she had things to do. She lay on the floor, head propped up on one hand, a bit short of breath herself from laughing. "Oh, what's on the docket," she asked, reaching out with her free hand to brush the hair out of Moira's eyes. "I didn't think we had much today, but I suppose I might have forgotten something." A thin strand slipped out of her braid to reach up to the counter and fetch her coffee before it got too cold.

So...not the most reputable of scientists, especially since it sounded like her incomplete degrees were being completed online (despite her attempts to not be an upper class snob, this was one of her blindspots). Still, redirection and encouragement were preferable to incarceration, so hopefully there was still hope. As for Smokey, Estelle was familiar with the type: hucksters and swindlers who targeted eccentric researchers and abused their trust. With a rather unladylike grunt, she attempted to snatch the con man and Houston him into the air, but he proved to be a highly evasive target, easily slipping through her golden grasp. Meanwhile, the grifter's compatriots attempted to attack her, though only one blow actually connected, its force harmlessly disipated throughout her protective garment.

  7. "No, there is no escape for you, puny godling! You shall be tickled within an inch of your life!" It cannot be overstated how good Dr. Estelle de Havilland was at tickling; she could have a doctorate in it, and not an honorary one The key was wielding a large mass of animated hair and possessing excellent knowledge of human anatomy. With these tools at her disposal, no one on God's green Earth was safe. Was this tickling a preemptive strike in anticipation of whatever favor the Olympian was going to ask? Why, yes. Yes it was.
  8. Gossamer is going to attempt to grapple Smokey, as he seems to be the most troublesome; I forget exactly house the house ruled grapple rules work, but I'm pretty sure they still involve a to hit check. She's not using all hed hair, preferring to keep some of it free. 1d20+23=40 Unless Smokey has some tricks up his sleeve, I assume he's not getting out of that! I'll await your response then quickly reply thereafter.
  9. "Cool, I like taking the bus sometimes, too; certainly easier to talk that way then shouting at each other while we're flying!" Dancia didn't have to wait long for Casey to get ready; in a blink, she was ready to go, her coffee mug drained, washed, rinsed, dried and thoughtfully put away in a matter of moments. Then she shouldered her bag, proudly held up her FCTA Freedom Pass and grinned before raising a dramatic finger into the air. "To the bus!"
  10. "Oh, havin' a psychic in the party could be super cool," Lulu said in response to Selena's suggestion of an alternate character concept." "Not that ah'm biased or anythin'..." The young telepath grinned and winked as she started to pile pizza on a paper plate, then poured herself a cup of Coke. "'Red Solo cup, ah fill you up!'" Lulu was very interested to see what types of characters everyone was going to play; Randy told her usually said a lot about a person. Judy picking a paladin was an obvious choice, and her cousin got her to admit that a cleric might represent her desire to atone for her misdeeds. "So who are the 'meat shields'? Randy said it was my job to keep our front line fighters healed up so they can keep kickin' ass and takin' names."

  12. It was all a bit overwhelming for Lulu; sure, her family had gone on a few summer trips to Florida's Emerald Coast, aka 'the Redneck Riviera', where there were a handful of cute guys. But there were also all manner of regular folk, in all the wonderful shapes, colors and sizes of the South; here, pretty much every guy was drop dead gorgeous, with chiselled abs, amazing hair and near-perfect skin. Well, there were a few exceptions; Adam had a network of scars all over his body, not that they did much to lessen his appeal. And Janus...Lulu was surprised that the lithe young prince hadn't taken the opportunity to show off his no doubt impressive pecs; still, he looked pretty cut in his- Lulu paused, blinked, and then realized she was staring, and suddenly felt confused, embarrased and...well, more confused, really. Veronica had never called Janus a 'he'; she just referred to him as 'cousin' or by his name. No, not his name, but- Ah've heard of this sort of thing before; what's the term for it? Oh God, not 'it', ah didn't mean...shoot! Ah'm just stupid; ah'm just a stupid country girl. She wasn't mad at Janus; she was mad at herself for making assumptions, for caring, and for lacking the language to talk about it. So instead, she just did what her momma did when thinks became uncomfortable back home: she threw herself into food preparation. "Ah can, ah can start cuttin' up the pie...though we don't have to eat it right away..."
  13. Up in the sleeping loft, in the middle of her comfy California King, Dr. Estelle de Havilland slept on her side, her long, golden locks drapped over the whole of the mattress. Occasionally, one of her tendrils would twist, twitch or flex, much like the tail of a sleeping cat. Based on the hint of a smile on her lips, whatever she dreamed of was very pleasant. Eventually, the many smells of a delicious breakfast finally penetrated into her consciousness, and she began to murmur herself awake. First she stretched, and then her hair stretched, sending ripples and spasms throughout its mass. At last, a bleary-eyed Gossamer lowered herself down into the kitchen, the bulk of her hair wrapped around the steel pipe sculpture suspended from the ceiling. Once her bare feet touched the hardwood floor, the golden cloud descended to float around her. A set of tendrils extended towards the cupboards, fetching a mug and spoon for coffee, while a much thicker pair reached out to gently pry Moira away from the stove and within hugging distance of the blonde chemist. "Gooood morning, darling!"
  14. Well from the look of things, they'd definitely screwed up a pair of superheroes' bust, and now there were bullets flying everywhere. Lulu felt awful about all of this, but realized it wasn't really their fault. Still, as someone who maybe hoped to be a crimefighter herself one day, she felt obligated to do what she could to rectify the situation. Focusing her mind on one of hoods closest to the woman, she attempted to force him into a deep sleep.
  15. I think Lulu is going to target one of the dirty Ruskies with a sleep Stun, preferably one of the ones closest to Talya. If she can keep more than one of them asleep at a time via Sedation, she will do so, in anticipation of Stunning another one next round; otherwise, she'll let him recover naturally. DC 20 Will save vs Stun for the thug.
  16. With a deep sigh, Casey went into her strut; she'd actually done a lot of researching and practicing to get ready for this moment, which had lead to a lot of support and playful ribbing from her fellow Pi's. She did her best to look fierce as she strode out in front of the crowd, which on her actually looked a bit intimidating. She found the beat in the music playing over the sound system, stared straight ahead and killed it, as a rather silly thought bounced around her head. I'm too sexy for my dress. Too sexy for my dress. When Casey got to the middle of the stage, she struck a pose, hand on hip, and favored the crowd with a cool gaze; meanwhile, she did another scan, hoping to turn up something.

"Yes, that sounds about right," Estelle said as she looked back and forth between Smokey and 'Greenfingers'; as was often the case, she imagined the truth lay somewhere between the two narratives, though at the moment, she was more inclined to believe her fellow scientist. However, that didn't mean she wasn't concerned about the woman's research; it looked more like barely-contained chaos than any sort of controlled experiment. "Madam, I feel a bit ridiculous referring to you as 'Greenfingers'; can we have your name and academic credentials? And as organic chemist in my own right, I must admit to be fascinated by your work; may I ask who is funding your research?"
  18. Casey's eyes went wide with excitement. "Do I want to see the office? Heck yeah!" She slapped her hands on her thighs so hard it made her chair jump, scarring the bejeezus out of poor Centurion, who scampred away, his tail all a-poof. "Sorry, kitty," the journalism major called after it, wincing slightly. She got to her feet and shouldered up her bag, eyes alight. "So, ready when you are, boss!" Casey managed to put more joy into saying the word 'boss' than most people ever did; she was practically bouncing on her toes.
  19. "Well, shoot," Lulu said with a sigh, in an almost comedic deadpan. It appeared Miss Blank might be one of the good guys, and damned if she and Adam hadn't just blown her cover. Once the bullets started flying, she instinctively crouched even lower, then erased herself from the minds of everyone present, though she had a feeling Miss Blank would see her regardless. However, she kept herself audible for now, to facilitate communication with her classmate. "Ah'm still here, Adam," her disembodied voice said. "Don't you worry 'bout me none!"
  20. Following out of the van after Nicole came Lulu, pale as a ghost in a red one piece swimsuit under a pair of cut-off shorts and a denim vest. To keep away the rays of the dreaded Daystar, she wore a wide-brimmed straw hat, oversized sunglasses and what smelled like a lot of coconut-scented sunscreen. Her flip-flops slapped loudly on the dock as she trotted out to join the others, a large canvas beach tote over one shoulder and a Tupperware pie keeper held in both hands. "Hey, y'all," she called out, waving one free hand. "Thanks so much for havin' us out to your place!" She held the pie keeper aloft. "Ah made my momma's famous Key lime pie! Real Key limes and condensed milk, just like GamGam used to make." Lulu wasn't normally big on trips to the beach, as her fair skin burned so easily. But it was a lovely day, and it meant a chance to see her male classmates shirtless, which was reason alone to make the trip!
  21. Group 2 There was a lot going on under the surface of these discussions; the nosy telepath in Lulu desperately wanted to take a peek inside Micah's head and see what buried trauma led to his outburst, but she knew if she wanted anyone here to trust her, she'd need to respect their privacy. Just one little peek...? "You know what the one thing these questions keep leavin' out? Other super folks. The questions are always written like, we're in some kind a vacuum, but we're not; we're not alone." She indicated Micah with a wave of her hand. "If Micah's got some crazy sumbitch threatenin' him or his family, he can come to us for help. And we'll help him out, 'cause it's right, and 'cause we know he'd do the same for us. We're not just here to learn how to use our own powers; we're here to learn how to work together." The young redhead leaned back in her chair and made a dismissive gesture. "Ah dunno, least that's how ah see it."
  22. Group 2 Lulu was more than happy to move on to the second question, because they could probably bat that one around all without agreeing on anything. However, the second question might also prove to be divisive. "Ah'll be honest with y'all, ah'm sort of with Micah on this one, though ah think it would be better if you could be more selective. Wipin' out someone's whole brain seems a but much." Then she stroked her lower lip thoughtfully. "But what if that ain't an option, for whatever reason? Then what do you do?" She sat there thinking for several moments before speaking again. "Ah think for me personally, I'd go public, take that power away from 'em. And then yeah, try to put the people ah care about in protective custody or somethin'. Because my thinkin' is, once the cat is out of the bag, it's stays out; if one nutjob found out your secret, then another nutjob can do it again. Your cover is as good as blown."
