Artificer This isn't working, I cannot channel enough power to- wait, no, the Atlantean chided himself, greater power is not the way, I should be trying to finesse this, study my foe, and- One of the apparition's great blasts of steam slammed into him, knocking all breath out and sending him sprawling to the ground some feet away. The force of the blast tore open his tunic, and the skin on his chest was red and peeling away. The hastily-constructed device in his hands, and components in his still-open bandolier pouches, flew into the air, metal and crystalline bits reflecting the light of the few remaining fires, like some tiny new constellation, before clattering to the ground. Sorry, sorry, things at school/work have been magra fahrbot. First, the Reflex/Toughness save for the steam attack. Reflex save, DC 23: 1d20+5: 19 [1d20=14] ouch Toughness save, DC 28: 1d20+12: 13 [1d20=1] that fails by 15, so that'd put him unconscious. ... I have 1 HP left, but I think I'm going to keep it, and let the die roll stand. Maybe knocking the Atlantean unconscious will appease this thing? Enough for Aquaria & Nick to have better luck with it?

Cone]; PFs: Affects Insubstantial 2) [22/31] DC 20 Reflex save, then a DC 25 or 20 Toughness save. And use one of his HPs (should be down to 1 now) to nix the Fatigue from the Stunt.

Artificer Damn my eyes!, Heroditus cursed to himself, regretting the modifications he'd had done which allowed him to see mystical energies, which made the horrors before him even more psychedelic. It had seemed like such a good idea at the time... And yet already his hands were a blur of motion, withdrawing and connecting components from his many pouches, brass tubes and boxes, slivers of crystal, engraving tools. "I am not sure what that is," he called to his comrades, "but it looks to be made of steam, so let us see if a blast of cold can slow it down!" He made a quick mental prayer to his ancestors as he worked, and soon had what looked to Nick like a crude pipe gun, with Atlantean runes quickly scratched along the barrel. "Let us hope I got these inverted fire sigils aligned correctly...." Shakily taking aim, he inhaled sharply as he pulled the trigger, and an intense beam of blue-white light lanced out towards the steam creature... but missed completely, not even making a glancing blow.

Artificer To Nick's relief, Artificer did not carry him by hand as they soared through the air. He had instead created a disc of some transparent crystalline material -- seemingly grown from a tiny seed he pulled from one of his pockets -- which was wide enough for him to sit on cross-legged if he'd so wished. They arrived moments after Aquaria, and as they approached Heroditus raised a hand to shield his eyes. Part of it was to ward off the heat of the remaining flames, sure to make any Atlantean wary. But there were also the auras of Aquaria's water summoning magics. Most any mage worth their wands could sense such things, but to Heroditus, the auras were clearly, painfully visible, and akin to looking directly at a pulsar. He set down near their ally, and turned his attention to the building, and its strange sign. "'House of Doors and Mirrors'? I have heard of a 'house of mirrors,' a carnivale attraction -- could this be something similar?"

Artificer Heroditus let out a long, exasperated sigh. "We need to follow her, of course," he said to Nick as he adjusted the straps on his sandals, "but does someone need to stay here to speak with the local authorities? Describe what we have learned? Or would the regional constabulary not be prepared for such revelations?" He knew a thing or two about keeping secrets -- as an arcanist, a craftsman, and a "super-hero" -- but even with four years of experience, there was much about Surfacer customs and social hierarchies which eluded him. People should be forewarned of any threats in the area, but too much forewarning can lead to paranoia. And Surfacers seemed especially prone to negative reactions when it came to Deep Ones (probably because they were so unaccustomed to dealing with them). The tiny wings on the ankles of his sandals began to glow and flap, and he slowly rose into the air. He held out a hand to Nick, "coming with, or will you catch up?"

So the Doktor's plan is to fly up to one of the Sarcota, cling onto its neck/head, and use his "internalized electromagneti screwdriver" as an advanced MRI, to get a scan on the critter's brain, hopefully determining a] if they're of animal intelligence or have sapient thoughts, and b] what sort of stimuli they respond to/how to communicate with them. Game terms, this would be a Mind Reading and Super-Senses (Mental Awareness) effect, and maybe some Knowledge (Behavioral Sciences), Knowledge (Life Sciences), and/or Sense Motive rolls.

My, my, how the tables have turned -- looks like it's time for Artificer to protect Justicar Vor'an! He's switching from Create Object to Illusion 10 (“holograms;” visual; PF: Progression 2 [25-ft. radius]), and filling the area with illusionary doubles of Artificer & Vor'an.

Artificer Heroditus tried not to let Gaian Knight's and Moon-Moth's magics distract him, but the sheer power of the former and the alienness of the latter were hard to ignore. I really should speak with both of them, learn more about their abiiites. Were they learned, or innate? Or- His thoughts were interrupted as he saw Vor'an take a mighty blast from one of Dovox's Justicars! "No!" Heroditus' eyes went wide, and he darted towards the being who had protected him so much during this terrible battle. He landed next to Vor'an, shielding him from their assailtant, and withdrew two multifacted crystals from his bandolier. "Vor'an? Vor'an, are you with me?" He tried ot keep his voice calm and even, stamping down on the panic welling up within him, "I fear my shields will not fare well against a blast of that magnitude," he touched the rystals to each other, then held one between Vor'an and himself and held the other out before him, "but I should be able to give him some additional targets." Nearly two dozen Artificers and Vor'an's sprang into existence, filing a large section of the hangar. Would their foes be able to see through the Atlantean holograms? Artificer would hope not, but his mind was already racing to figure out a better solution to their predicament.
