  1. On the one hand, I've got the Veteran Awards to have Dok cover this. (Means I'll have to do his spaceship as an HQ w/ Space Flight, not as a Vehicle.) On the other hand, should he? Dok founded the team, but I don't know how they're going to react to him post-ArchEvil, or if they'd want him anywhere near them (though I hope to get the threads where that is sorted out started soon!). If they don't, I'd have a character contributing points to a shared HQ he isn't a member of... which is not a precedent I'd want to see set.
  2. Hurricane Irene may prevent me from being around this weekend. Current predictions are that we'll just get the far edge of it, but hurricane tracks do have a nasty habit of changing at the last minute.
  3. Just before the thing restored itself, a mass -- a man-sized tumor, it appeared -- was pushed up out of it, which rolled down the beast's side and struck the ground. It bulged and stretched before splitting open, assorted ichors spilling forth, and out of it slowly wriggled a naked, slime-covered Viktor Archeville. He tried to breathe, to scream, but instead coughed up more gunk, his new body convulsing as it used its muscles for the first time. "Mo... Mooonaaa!" He turned, looked up, shielding his new eyes from the flashes of battle, and survey the scene, and his gear-less state. "I have to... there must be something I can..."
  4. But that which is eternal cannot die. The two halves of the great beast had barely hit the ground when they began rejoining, limbs sprouting out from the interiors to pulls the thing that should not be back together. The thing was almost halfway back together when is paused and shuddered, and small wisps of light and smoke pulled away from it. The wisps drifted towards another hero who had come to the scene, the psychobilly necromancer Nick Cimitiere, who had been working to exorcise the spirits of the dead Archevilles which made up the thing's form. Mercifully, this slowed its horrible regenerative abilities, though it did not stop it -- now living tentacles of horribly warped flesh and plant matter lashed out to one another to finish pulling the beast closed.
  5. The Interceptors fought valiantly against the unspeakable foe, despite the less than impressive impact their assaults seemed to have. The great beast seemed tougher and to be healing even faster once it had fed on Thrude, leading some to wonder what it might gain if it fed on any of them. And then, a strange thing happened: every television set and radio within two blocks of the monster (those that still worked, anyway) lit up, just long enough for Dragonfly to scream an invective, just before a massive, rippling beam like god's own wrath cut down through the atmosphere and cleaved Dokthulhu nearly in twain. Torrents of ichors and organs flooded the streets and choked the gutters as a cacophony of screams and shrieks filled the night air.
  6. "You cannot run!," the Mad Doktor screamed. "Whatever I am come from you! You made me! I am your every anger and foul thought made manifest!" Even as the Mad Doktor raged against the heavens above, Phantom and Scarab realized the truth as they fought the alien intelligence, and saw the faintest traces of connections between it and the Mad Doktor. It was shaped by Viktor's darker impulses, but it was given autonomy by this thing, long before the vile tome in Taylor's care broke the dam in Viktor's mind. Archeville's "Other" was not some split personality, it was more like an interface the alien intellect had created through which it could interact with and experience the world. Lacking both the familiarity with arcane matters (specifically pseudonatural threats) Phantom has, and the experience with mental matters Scarab has, Ferros did not realize this, and was at something of a loss regarding Viktor's departure.
  7. "Fool! Without me you would have no 'life'! You are an Archeville! Born of a line of geniuses and conquerors, yet you lick the boots of those lesser than you!" The Other backhanded Viktor, knocking him towards a wall made of screaming faces, but the hero stopped in mid-'air' and faced his counterpart down. "You betrayed yourself, relied too much on others, and as a result grew weak and stupid!" "I... I have relied on others," Viktor said, his voice strengthening with his resolve, "and I think... you are about... to find out why." Thousands of bolts of crimson lightning arced throughout the mental laboratory as "Dokthulhu's" body was cleaved by an orbital maser. Once the outburst subsided, Viktor flew off, towards a tear in the starry sky above.
  8. Ferros continued reciting his koans, and Viktor did hear them. Slowly he pulled himself together; the processes quickened once his eyes were restored and he could see Phantom and Scarab there with him. But his eyes saw more: they saw through the myriad eyes of his now-warped physical body, and the devastation it wrought upon North Bay and the Interceptors. "Mona?" In a flash of blue-white light and swirling equations, Viktor stood, whole, before Ferros, something the Mad Doktor instantly noticed. It broke off from the fight with Phantom, Scarab and the alien intelligence, leaving them to fight amongst themselves, and stalked towards Viktor.
  9. Phantom & Scarab fought on against both the formless alien intelligence and the Mad Doktor as Ferros spoke to the man at the ceter of it all. Viktor was hesitant at first, "Is... you... you are real? Really here? The Other, it can be... very clever in its torments." "Cleverer than you'll ever be, you naive child!," the Mad Doktor screamed as it deflected one of Phantom's blasts with its sword. "I no longer control this mind... this life. The Other gained control when I read from Phantom's book, has been exerting control these past nine months... but I am guilty! I bore him, I am to blame!"
  10. Making science-fiction a reality: Bulletproof human skin made from spider silk and goat milk developed by researchers ILgwy5c6W04 (Note: video is in Dutch) I, for one, welcome our bulletproof Dutch Man-Spider Overlords.
  11. For comparison, you might want to consider adding the chars from the books. See how a PC's strength matches up against Megastar... or even the Centurion! (I'm thinking of doing something similar for skills...)
  12. I've got several meetings this afternoon, and some things to do this evening, so my next post will be later this evening (probably after 10pm EST).

  14. The bodies of Scarab and Phantom remained still, but their minds raced forth into the core of the beast before them, the beast that had once been their ally. Scarab, sensing some vital quality to the task in one of the new arrivals, brought Ferros along on the mental journey. Scarab had been in Archeville's mind several times before, so she had some idea of what to expect, even with these terrible new changes. Where before there had been countless points of light, a galaxy of thoughts and ideas, now there were innumerable flickering points of chaotic flame. Underneath this was Archeville's sprawling mind-mansion, where ideas were stored, catalogued, and turned into action. Spiders crawled all about it now, and dark and boneless things slithered through its corridors. At the core of this was Archeville's Ideal Laboratory, as beyond what his real laboratories were as his workspaces were beyond those of normal science. The place was in shambles now, simultaneously flooded and aflame, with two titanic figures fighting in the center. One, so inimical to rational thought it hurt to even look upon, a fathomless and formless mass that refused to be recognized as any definable shape, was the mind of the creature which rampaged in Freedom City, here rampaging through Archeville's mind with equal abandon and devastation. Locked in combat with it, spewing forth a string of curses and invectives, was Archeville -- or, rather, part of him. Scarab knew this was Archeville's dark Other, all the fears and hates and prejudices and jealousies and other negative impulses that were normally not even whispers in the minds of others, but for Viktor they had been an insistent voice for so many decades. "Get out!," the Mad Doktor screamed, both to the beast and the newly arrived heroes, as he pushed on with an impossibly serrated laser-zweihander. But if that was what was fighting the beast, where was the Viktor they knew? "Elena? Taylor? Jin?," a weak voice said from somewhere off to the side. The source was soon found: Viktor, the Archeville they knew, lay in pieces, torn apart yet still (barely) cognizant, strapped to operating tables, locked in cages, suspended over vats of boiling chemicals.
  15. Aaaaa a week later and there's nothing. And I don't want to hold anyone else up any longer. So, new tactic, to get this resolved faster: after my next IC post, everyone else post. You don't need to post in initiative order. Post about five rounds worth of actions (this should be a long and epic fight!); after everyone's in (or 48 hours passes), I'll post something to add in Dragonfly & Nick Cimitiere's vignettes, and stuff from the other Dokthulhu thread. (Which means no killing Dokthulhu in your posts, though posting where it seems to die only to surge back to hideous life is good; do feel free to play up all manner of disgusting Body Horror moments.) Once I post that, one more 'round' of posting from everyone (possibly encompassing multiple combat rounds), then a final post from me will be the end of this combat.
  16. Fulcrum's torrent of Terminus energies had the most visible effect on the thing that had been her lover, flesh and bone boiling away, new mouths forming to shriek and hiss at the new sensation. As with that damage done by Dynamo and Colt, the flesh began to mend back, necrotic hides forming thick scabs over the wounds, but the process was slower with these injuries. Was it the nature of the attack? Or the nature of the attacker? As the battle rage, Dokthulhu's new body underwent a plethora of hideous changes. Here, vents opened to spewed a vile goo that mutated trees into lashing barbed dervishes; there, pustules ripened and burst to release swarms of dog-sized cockroaches which wore Viktor's maddened face, whose bites carried a horrible (and horribly fast-acting) wasting disease. One mouth vomited forth dozens of hideous frog-men, that loped and leaped both at the heroes and towards the other homes in the neighborhood, sharing mad visions with those who touched their hallucinogenic skin. Once, when the beast seemed to suffer a heavy wound, it lashed out with a lightning-fast tentacle to ensnare Thrude, feeding on her divine blood and life force with the lamprey-like mouth concealed within; later, portions of its hide thickened to an insectoid carapace, reflecting back any attacks on it. The very air and ground around it continued to warp, colors and sounds running together like melting wax, as the heroes continued the dire battle with a thing from beyond reality.
  17. alder & quote (and Shaen, if you can), let's wrap this up.
  18. I think his pp total is off: if he's earned 106, and this is him without any PL bumps (so he's start at PL 7/105 PP), then he should have 211 PP, not 216. (And he could be PL 14.)
  19. A 1993 study on the personality of Dungeons and Dragons players finds kinda what you'd expect: Link to study abstract.
  20. DC Adventures: Heroes & Villains, volume 1 (table of contents here) is out in .pdf format. Pre-order a dead tree version, you can get the .pdf for cheap.
  21. I thought we (the Refs) had agreed that a character needed some Mental senses before they could take Uncanny Dodge (mental)?
  22. Bold the categories (Abilities, Combat, Skills, etc.), a return/space between each power, italicize Extras/Flaws/Power Feats/Drawbacks -- and have them all in one (line), not (a) (line) (for) (each) (category) -- and put his Array's stuff under a [ list ], and I believe that'll do it!
  23. You need to submit this using the proper format. (You're a Ref, you should know better! )
