Ferros (PL 11) - QuoteMyName (Gold)
Dr Archeville replied to quotemyname's topic in Archived Characters
Yes, the "Hero Code" should be removed. -
Archeville looked about the C&C a bit nervously, "ah, Thrude, could you, ah... see, all these devices here," he spread his arms wide, "are a bit sensitive around electrical surges. And while they are all shielded, I am concerned they may not withstand the full force of your... exuberance, and you may accidentally damage our dear friend Vince here." "Ah, Colt, Grimalkin," he greeted the cowboy and the resolving puddle, and clapped a hand to Mona's shoulder, "excellent! Now we just need Jack, and we can all make our introductions. Did you see him on your way down? And where are Jill and Dynamo?"
-
That sounds less like a Complication, more like something every PC on the site should have at default. Unless you mean the Captain Marvel (DC)/Dark Star/Superman level of heroism & not-killing, where you won't kill if there exists the slimmest ghost of a chance the target can be stopped by some other means. Why is Impervious Toughness linked to Move Object?

Taking 10 on a Know (Earth Sci) check, without Enhanced Int or Gadgets helping, gets Dok a 27. Taking 20 on a Notice check (Quickness!), without Enhanced Wis or Gadgets helping, gets him a 30.

Archeville's eyes went wide and his jaw dropped at Thrude's eagerness. "Not my first choice," he finally said, "but I suppose first impressions are the most important ones. Let me check the internal monitors," he approached one of the consoles, "and see who is to home. Ah, there is Fulcrum, in the gym, right down that hall!," he exclaimed, tone lifting as he indicated the northeast corridor. "And it is showing that Jack, Colt, and Grimalkin are all upstairs. Or, at least, their communicators are. Since this is really team business, I suppose we should all meet down here, rather than the 'civilian' housing upstairs." He drew out his Elektromagnetic Scrwdriver and adjusted it to override the microphone in Thrude's hand, so he could now speak through the Brownstone's PA system, "Ah, yes, Archeville here. Please come down to C&C to, ah, meet a new ally!"
-
"No full-fledged supervillains," he replied, sounding a bit disappointed, "and a mere handful of almost-weres. In most of their cases, their tentative forays into villainy came after a laboratory accident that empowered them, and the rush of it all overwhelmed them, sending them on a rampage. Oh!, ah, not accidents here! We help subjects of any sort of accident, you see, from all over. I am proud to say we have never had any serious, much less metahuman-creating, accidents here!" "So in addition to mental therapy, they also get examined physically, to make sure their change is not slowly killing them, as well as to try and discover the workings of their abilities, and a way to reverse it if desired. There were a few who were going to become villains in retaliation to toxic work environments -- here I mean mentally, emotionally toxic -- but getting them placed into a better job was just the thing they needed! We all have the need to feel accepted and valued, do we not?" "Ah, yes, the kids from the school in West End," he said over the growing din of young tweens. "Science class field trip, came to see what we have. Care to listen in?," he asked with a growing grin.

Freyja's Day, Freyja's Day, Freyja's Day [IC]
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Hanover
"Then take up your weapon," he exclaimed with infectious fervor, "and allow my Science to carry us to their base!" One hand danced across the controls to his Belt, while the other manipulated the Screwdriver. The Olfactory Obscurer went down, filling the nearby hallways with the sumptuous aromas of the feast. Heads soon poked out of doorways, and a crowd began to gather, but by the time the ArcheTech staff and interns arrived to plunder the remains of conference food (as was tradition in any place of business), their employer and his latest guest were gone. Continued here. -
Date: May 13th, 2011 (Friday), early afternoon. After Blades of Grass and Freyja's Day Conditions: Mid-60s, humid, windy (~10mph), cloudy. Brief showers predicted for tomorrow, heavier ones Sunday. Place: The Interceptors' Brownstone Friday the 13th! An unlucky day for some, but not for the Interceptors, who made their own luck! And they were about to get two new members -- too bad no one knew about it! Archeville teleported Thrude and himself to the Brownstone's secret basement control center, which had corridors leading off to the combat simulator, infirmary, personal rooms (for their heroic identities), and the garage/staging area. "," he explained after his very full stomach settled, in German since her English was still shaky and he wanted to make sure she knew what was what. "" he indicated a set of stairs going up to the ceiling, ""

Freyja's Day, Freyja's Day, Freyja's Day [IC]
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Hanover
Thrude proved a quick study, and Archeville an able instructor. By the time she'd had her fill -- and long past the point where he'd had to loosen his Gravimetric Belt a notch -- she was easily capable of speaking to anyone in the city and being understood without requiring the aid of angry gestures. "Excellent! Excellent!," he praised. "Well, I think you are ready to meet the team, if that is still your wish." He rose, slightly unsteady, and checked the devices around his waist, "" he muttered in his native tongue. -
DONE BY SHAENTHEBRAIN Dead Head's got 9 unspent pps! And at 190, he's now PL 13! Sometimes he creaks when he moves. He smells like tobacco and spices and rum, and his eyes glow with a soft blue-green light. He still doesn't get out to the shops much, but has been raiding Avenger's old wardrobe for outfits to supplement what he gets from dumpster diving (a habit he has not, and probably never will, break); he enjoys wearing a noose as a necktie. He still carries a shovel, but now he's usually able to get new ones instead of using rusty discarded ones. His voice still sounds like a harsh, strained whisper, with an eerie reverb when speaking when he shouldn't be able to (like when his head is detached from his body).
Old Appearance: Dead-Head's skin used to be shriveled and rotting, and purplish-grey in color. The trauma of his death changed his hair from platinum blonde to white-grey, and his eyes (once blue) glow with green, ectoplasmic flames. His mouth has been partially frozen into a rictus grin, and his voice usually sounds like a harsh, strained whisper. (Sometimes, such as when his head is separated from his body, it has an eerie reverb.) Having neither job nor source of income, he wears whatever he can get from where ever he can get it, though he's sure to always obtain a shovel. Currently, he's wearing discarded Army boots, old jeans, a t-shirt full of holes, and a well-worn black leather jacket; his current shovel is stainless steel model with a spade-like blade and a D-shaped handle. He smelled as bad as he looked.
Power Descriptions: Dead Head's resilience still comes not from being so tough that attacks bounce off, but rather that blasts and bullets and fists go through him harmlessly. His eyes constantly glow with a cyan light, which flares when using his Comprehend and Enhanced Feats powers.
Old: Dead Head's body is in a state of "dynamic stasis" -- constantly putrefying and rotting yet also regenerating. He takes damage like any other person -- powerful blasts don't bounce off him, they go through him -- but his body restores itself so quickly it takes a lot for him to even notice. His eyes constantly glow with an emerald light, which flares when using his Animate Dead and Resurrection abilities.
History: For full history and background, see his Wiki page, or the earlier char sheet at the beginning of this thread. [floatl][/floatl]By September 2009, he had made his way to Freedom City, perhaps the hub for superpowered and mystical activity in the world. He opposed numerous cults and necromancers, as well as some more traditional supervillains and even few Grue kaiju, but things came to a head for him on Halloween 2010. On the 50th anniversary of his imprisonment in Tartarus, Hades, Greek God of the Underworld, tried to manifest on Earth, but was stopped by a group of heroes and Baron Samedi and his agents. During the battle, something stepped out of Dead Head: Papa Ghede, Baron Samedi's good counterpart. When Malador and Samedi had opened that rift a decade ago, it was to a prison dimension holding a pseudonatural monstrosity. Ghede and some other gods rushed to close it, but the Horror fought back, and dealt him a severe blow. Desperately seeking some spot to recuperate, Ghede went to the one place available: Burton Lee. He backtracked the mystical link the Horror had set up, which it had just sent a portion of its essence into. Due to the restrictions of The Pact, Ghede still needed Burt's permissions to inhabit his body... but he was dead, his soul about to be intercepted and consumed by the Horror. Ghede had to act fast, and offered Burt a deal: he'd save him from the Horror, resurrect him, let him continue amongst the mortal world, if he could hole up in him for a bit. Burt, not really wanting to be dead (or Horror-chow), agreed... but there was an unexpected hitch. The alterations the Horror had made to Burt's mind/soul, as well as the damage it caused when it lashed out and tried to send a portion of itself into him, altered his metaphyiscal being such that when the wounded Ghede tried to bond with Burt, he was instead trapped and in a state of semi-hibernation; the resurrection also went awry, bringing Burt back as a type of super-powerful zombie, constantly rotting yet regenerating. The increased magical activities of the past month finally roused Ghede, who spent some time cleaning and undoing the damage the pseudonatural Horror had done to Burt before manifesting and carrying Baron Samedi and Hades away. He planned to take Burt's spirit with him to Guinee, where he would be rewarded in final rest, but he pleaded to stay, and his friends rallied for him. Ghede allowed it, altering him to be more resilient and left him one of Legba's hounds, to make up for the loss of his ability to animate and resurrect the dead. Fortunately for Dead Head, he knew a few powerful and skilled mages and benevolent necromancers, who could help him relearn those abilities. Personality & Motivation: At first, Burt was exceedingly depressed and horrified about his condition. All his friends were dead, twice over, and his family thought he was gone. Lacking any ties to the world of the living, he wandered and did what he could for the dead, but some of them wanted him to do horrible things. He never did them, but being constantly exposed to those requests didn't help his mood. Over the past few years, though, Burt has learned to lighten up -- thanks in part by helping to bring peaceful closure to several families -- and to even enjoy some aspects of his condition (like his Anatomic Separation power). Of course, given his appearance, voice, and mannerisms, his humor is very much in the vein of Tales from the Crypt's Crypt Keeper. He is, in fact, very much like a member of The Addams Family: compassionate and loving, friendly to all he meets, eager to help strangers in times of need, tolerant to a fault... and largely incapable of noticing how creepy and wrong he comes off, or just how badly his "idle fun" (like snapping off a hand and having it crawl around like a spider) unnerves some people. He has, of course, made a few enemies, and holds particular types of criminals with special distaste. Baron Samedi and Malador both wanted him, either to lead their armies of undead monstrosities, or to rip out whatever power is in him and add it to their own; now Samedi wants him destroyed just out of spite. Hades has also become an enemy, due to his role in preventing his possession of/merging with Daedalus. Burt himself takes special interest in cases involving children (especially those who weren't able to fully enjoy life) and those who disturb the dead (such as graverobbers and most necromancers). [floatr][/floatr]Powers & Tactics: Since losing his connection to Papa Ghede, Dead Head has lost much of his power. He's still monstrously tough and near-impossible to put down -- in fact, his body repairs itself even faster than before -- and he can still communicate with and even grab spirits of the dead, but he can no longer animate or raise them as he once could. He has recently re-learned how to control himself if separated into three pieces, and a new trick: taking on the appearance, sound, and even smell of anyone who has died. Good for confronting a murderer with their victims, bad for trying to sneak into guarded areas. His Fearsome Presence can be either contorting his body in hideous ways, channeling the chill finality of the grave, or making himself look like the decayed remains of someone the person knew.

Complications: Appearance: It's a zomumbie! Eek! Enemies: Baron Samedi, Hades, and Malador are the big three. Then there's all the graverobbers, organlegging rings, and death-cults he's busted up. Pain don't hurt: Dead Head feels no pain, literally. He wouldn't know there's a knife stuck in his back unless someone points it out to him. This could get problematic if he's in a situation where he's being damaged but doesn't directly see it. Spare Change? Chaaange?: No job, legally dead, gets most of his clothes from the dumpsters behind the Goodwill and Salvation Army (or Avenger's closet). Temper/Hatred: Dead Head has a special dislike of those who harm children or disturb the dead. Description: A mix of Mastiff (Neopolitan and Tibetan), Newfoundland, and Saint Bernard, standing about two feet (~0.6m) tall at the shoulder. Most foes only see his terrible jaws and glowing red eyes, though. History: One of Papa Legba's loyal hounds, loaned to Dead Head after the events of the Hades/Samedi debacle. Personality & Motivation: Much like Dead Head, A Mutt is friendly, loyal, protective, and tolerant. A Mutt loves the water, as fitting a creature from Guinee, the Island Beneath the Sea. He is highly intelligent (for a dog), and very protective of children. Powers & Tactics: A Mutt is a spirit, and as such naturally exists in an incorporeal and invisible/inaudible/un-sensable form. He can run up walls and across the air with ease, and his mighty jaws can bite corporeal and insubstantial foes, whether he is corporeal or not; these wounds are slow to heal. He can let our a baleful howl, far more terrifying than the call of any mere wolf. A fluke, you say? Being kidnapped by family this weekend for bday festivities, will likely be 'net-less most of Saturday & Sunday.

FC:PbP is offering the community another "vignette" opportunity. If you'd like to read about our previous vignettes, check here. In the far future of 2525, the Freedom Legion does its best to restore the forgotten past of the Freedom League and the heroes of Freedom who lived and died so many centuries ago. But the great electronics crash of the 22nd century and the wars that followed wiped so many records, and even many so-called immortals are dead, silent, untrustworthy, or even simply mistaken about the long ago world of so many centuries ago. These stories are confused, and get a great many facts wrong. Sometimes they even get the era and planet where they lived wrong! (There have been a great many heroes in Freedom’s history...) But the ultimate truth of those long-ago heroes still shines through. (This vignette is inspired by this 1996 DC Crossover Legends of the Dead Earth.) Who: Any player who is interested, for one (or more) of their characters. What: Tell the story of your character as remembered by those who came long after him or her, drawing on the ancient archetypes which so many of them represent. This can take the form of someone telling the story in the 2500s, or of simply that story itself as recreated by the hardworking super-historians of the far future. Ex.: Avenger! In Victorian Freedom, Jack Faretti hunts a grim blade-wielding killer called Jack o’Knives, all the while dealing with the grim hungers of his revenant condition.Length should be at least one (1) page per character involved. When: The deadline for submissions will be Thursday, June 30th, by 11:59 PM EST (GMT -5). Where: Anywhere. When you submit your vignette, please make a note clearly indicating in which forum it should be posted. Why: To enhance our community, to flex your writing muscles, to think more deeply about your characters, and to earn a bonus PP for your characters (the ones involved in this Vignette) for the month of June. How: Once your story is finished and proofed, PM it to one of the Refs (AvengerAssembled, Ecalsneerg, Geez3r, ShaenTheBrain, or myself). When all the stories are in, one of our staff members will post them to the appropriate forums (which is why we need you to be sure to tell us where it should go!), and provide links to them in this thread. DO NOT post them in a forum yourself, otherwise it will not be counted for this exercise. Animus: Untitled Blueshift: I, Hero Cannonade: Untitled Citizen: Out Into The World Cobalt Templar: Horse of a Different Color Crow: Campfire Tales Dark Star: Untitled Doktor Archeville: Lo, Praise to Archeville! Dragonfly: Children Fleur de Joie: Bedtime Ztory Freedom Angel: The Last City Fulcrum: The Age of Aquarius Gabriel: A Life of Sacrifice Gaian Knight: Relics Geckoman: Untitled Glowstar: Untitled Harrier: No King But Freedom Ironclad: Untitled Jack of all Blade: Children of the 52 Jade Dragon: Untitled Jubatus: Knowledge Is Power King of Suits: Legend of the King of Suits Midnight (II): Untitled Miss Americana: Robot's Tomb Myrmidon: Glory of the Many Nick Cimitiere: Untitled Push: Tell It Truly Rene deSaens: Untitled Silhouette: Bedtime Stories Supercape: Untitled Wander: K. In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your character posted IC this month (including the News forum). Please also mark things from the Non-Canonical forum as being non-canonical, as those count 1/2 (2 posts made for your char in a non-canon thread count as 1 post for the char). And if you are GMing something, list those threads, too. GM-only posts -- as well as NPC Villain posts -- also count 1/2, and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push' to get up in post numbers. When you make your list, please post a link to the IC threads -- preferably to the top of the page where your first post for that month appears -- so we (and the auto-count program) can jump right to it. When you post the link to your thread, the URL should look like this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&p=100643#p100643 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&start=10 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478 NOT this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?p=100643#p100643 The four digit number in the URL (bolded & underlined in the correct example) is the thread id number which we need to use the autocountamotron. When you start a thread, make sure [iC] is in the title/subject line of the IC thread, and [OOC] is in the title of the OOC thread. If you make a post in an IC thread as a GM or an NPC, add [GM] in the subject line of the thread. If you make a post and [iC] is not in the subject line, the AutoCounter will not count it. And if you do not put [GM] in the places you post as an NPC or Ref, it won't count those properly. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. Please clearly note any threads in which you are both player and GM/running an NPC. Also, when you start a new thread, please mark it on the Timeline (if you have a handle here, you have an account for the Wiki, and anyone with an account can edit it). You do not have to be specific on the date, but I would like to keep track of when things are happening relative to each other. The Timeline also serves as an index for everything we've done in the nearly three years this site's been active, and it's useful to know if X happens before or after Y. If you've done any extracurriculars -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, Vignette, Wiki work, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in your post counts being postponed or skipped completely.

Archeville closed his eyes again, and the brainscans showed his mind reverting back to the 'standard' iteration he had when it it was first used on him, the charismatic 'face' one. Archeville's hands shot up, "sorry! Sorry! As you can see, sometimes my mind gets away from me. I will of course be happy to pay for any damages! But, ah, no, my only other regularly used one is melee combat-oriented, and I do not think that would go over well. So, I shall go, and return in two weeks for the results!" Soon he was gone, leaving the two Lab scientists to consider what all had just transpired.

Time displacement seems the easiest way to not have the others in on this. Hard for the team to mount a rescue if she's already back mere moments after she gets nabbed!

Indeed, since a Teleporter would be the Power feature for the HQ, which'd give you 30 points (2 x PL of highest PL member) of Powers for a mere 1 EP!
-
We don't allow characters to start with unspent points. His Combat numbers are way off Your Attack + Damage (which can be actual damage as from a super-strong punch or energy blast, or some attack effect like a blinding flash or ensnaring webs) cannot be more than 2x your PL. When these numbers are at 2xPL, you are said to be "meeting caps," and this is a Very Good thing for a starting character to be. His Str of 15 (+2) would give him an Unarmed Damage of 17 (15 base + 2 from Str), or 21 in cases where he can use Sneak Attack (since his Sneak Attack 3 adds +4 to the damage). When using his Quarterstaff, these go up by +2 (since that's the damage of the staff), to 19 and 23. At most, he does +8 damage (2 from Str, 2 from Staff, 4 from sneak attack). With a maximum of +8 damage, he can have Attack of up to +12 (since 8+12 = 2 x PL of 10). You have down Attack Focus (Melee) 4 (which gives a +4 to Melee attacks) and Attack Specialization (Staff) 2 (which will give an additional +4 to Attack with the Staff). That's +8 right there when using the staff, so getting it up to +12 requires buying 4 ranks of 'base' Attack. (Which works well, since our House Rule is that at least 1/3rd of your total Attack and Defense must come from 'base' traits). This will cost 8pp (since 'base' Attack and Defense each cost 2pp/rank). It would be written as so: Right now, he's spend 0pp on his Attack, which should be written as so: This goes against our aforementioned house rule, and also puts him, in terms of Attack/Damage, at an effective PL of 8. Similarly, your Defense + Toughness cannot exceed 2 x PL. Right now, his Con of 11 (+0), Defensive Roll 3 (+6 Toughness when not flat-footed), and Undercover Shirt (Protection 2) give him a Toughness of +8. This allows him to have a Defense of +12 (since 8+12 = 2 x PL of 10). You have written that he has Defense +12, which works fine! But that costs 24pp, and you have listed that he's sent 4pp. Also, his Will save is off: he has +1 from his Wisdom of 12, not -1. Spending 6 more points on it would give a total of +7, not +5.

After the wedding (which I believe Heri is working on now), and probably right after Evil!Dok has his Big Reveal (which may be a contributing factor for why they're no longer around). Also, my latest edit request for Dok has him contributing 5 EPs to the team.

I know there's been some talk of not adding anything more (since we're already over budget!), but I did just have an idea for an upgrade Dok could make that may be useful: a teleportation system. Specifically, one that has the visual effect of creating rainbow-colored bridges/portals, making others think they're something the team's newest member, Thrude, brought along with her.
