It does indeed! So, whatcha doin'?
-
"Not quite," he replied in that eerily, preternaturally calm tone. "The mental state I typically run in public -- the one I was using when we first used this device to read my mind -- emphasizes interpersonal intelligence, particularly the ability to influence people by playing on their moods, feelings, temperaments and motivations. This iteration," he crossed the room back to exam table, hopped up on it, and settled into a lotus position, "emphasizes my sensitivity to the feelings and moods of others, in part through an enhanced sensory acuity, and in part through an increased empathic faculty. It also increased my intrapersonal intelligence, my introspective and self-reflective capacities, which reinforces my comprehension of self to prevent manipulation by telepathic or other mental manipulations."

I take a day off to spend some quality time with the wife, and this happens! Round 9 Move Action: Switch Pseudonatural Mind to Calculating Angles & Vectors (i.e., Ranged Combat Specialist). This moves his Initiative back down due to the loss of Intelligence Reflex save, DC 22 (1d20+6=18) Fort save, DC 22 (1d20+10=27) Round 10 Free Action: Curse the Multiverse Problem: Structures made brittle by extranormal cold, collapsing under their own weight. Solution: Change gravitational constant of immediate area, thus decreasing weight of structures. Free Action: Extra Effort to power stunt [something] off [something, probably his Gravitic Defense System since that has the most pp with which to work] I'd like to stunt some sort of Lift/Decrease-Only Gravity Control to buoy up the collapsing buildings. But I need to know three things: how big an area he'd need to effect (assuming it's centered on him; it looks like he'd need a 120-ft. radius burst area, since that's the length of Fenris's cone, though there's also the height of the buildings to consider), how much Str is needed to hold these up, and if I'd need the Selective power feat or the Selective Attack extra to be able to lift the structures but not the people/heroes.

16 September 2010 I finally told Mona everything about my fractured psyche last night. She took it... better than I had hoped! Such a weight off my chest! I am going to show her such a time at Oktoberfest this year! 20 September 2010 Odd dreams last night, fire and screaming. Remnants of my Other, resurfacing now that I am Oktoberfest, where I usually gave it freer reign? Will contact Scarab to take a peek. 11 October 2010 D-Scanners picked up a flare of activity in the Lantern Hill area last night, but the event was too short to get solid readings. Will go by there today to investigate. Addendum: Traced the D-breach to St. Stephen's Church, which looked like there had been a war inside. Their most prominent resident, fellow Leaguer Freedom Angel, saw nothing, as he was out on patrol when it happened, but after some... whatever it is he does, he muttered something about 'an evil being banished.' Some sort of exorcism? Must investigate further. 22 October 2010 Hired a truly gifted young researcher today: the heroine Miss Americana! (I had first met her back in August, during the 2010 Brainiac Brunch.) Though she already has her own laboratory, I predict she will be happy to have the resources ArcheTech can provide. 23 October 2010 Another odd dream last night, this one of storms, lightning, over a dark body of water. One of the bolts struck me, and I fell into the icy water... then awoke. Perhaps I should look in to dream imagery. 1 November 2010 Got word of an oddity in the coroner's office: a cat-woman, sporting numerous skin lesions, found three days ago. Noted presence of fluid in lungs, but unsure if that is from drowning or from whatever illness she had. No luck in identifying her, though if she was the victim of some unscrupulous scientist's experiments, dental records and DNA tests would no longer match. I think I will go down and conduct my own examinations. If her felinoid nature is due to genetic tampering, I may recognize certain 'signature elements' and identify who changed her. Though my initial guess is that it is some new splicer, and the lesions and other symptoms are unintended side-effects of the mutation process. 11 November 2010 Noticed unexplained increase in power use in sub-basement two. Mona has been using my Hazard Hall a lot lately; most likely overloads from the strain, since I did not design it with someone of her unique abilities in mind. Brighter side, these samples I got from 'Kid Cthulhu' yesterday should yield all sorts of fascinating results! 13 December 2010 Disturbing discovery by police today: a double murder, Lion and Finder. Finder I knew by reputation, but Lion was someone I had talked with just the other day! Both were fine heroes, and their loss is a blow to us all. Were the both targeted? One targeted, the other happened on the scene? Who did this, and why? One assailant, or multiple? A shame Dark Star is not around, he knew Finder, and would know if she had enemies. This lack of background information will make my investigation more difficult. But that is not going to stop me. 26 December 2010 I love my Interceptors. They have become more than a team of (mostly) homeless heroes with PR issues, more than outstandingly proficient protectors of West End, more than a failsafe to put me down should I go completely off my rockers -- they are family. 8 January 2011 Another odd dream last night: me (from my own PoV), chasing after trio of women. No, of teens, girls. A blonde (well, bleached blonde), a brunette, and a redhead (well, hot pink). None of them looked familiar, so they were not anyone I had met before, though it is possible they were conglomerations of assorted blondes, brunettes, and redheads I have had dalliances with over the years. A (wholly normal and standard) reaction to Mona moving in with me, fears of us taking things to a new level? A yearning for my freer, more hedonistic times? 10 January 2011 Came down to biochem lab, found an empty container on the floor (which I found by almost tripping over it). Security footage does not show me doing any 'sleep-working,' but does show some of my butlerbots in there at an atypical time. Will review their logs and operating systems for any errors. Follow Up: Just heard of a mass death in Edison, New Jersey. A whole town's worth, dead, but no signs of injury or struggle. Findings in my biochem lab this morning made me immediately think of bioweapons. (For my sanity's sake, I checked all my stores. Found nothing missing.) I will go study the bodies in a few minutes -- if nothing else, I know they will appreciate another set of hands at the autopsy tables -- and try to get to the bottom of this. Follow Up #2: Returned from autopsies of mass deaths in Edison. All died from aortic dissection. All were also infected with a strain of syphilis! Curioser and curioser. I will study the bacteria tomorrow; for now, after doing dozens of autopsies, I need sleep. 11 January 2010 Had to do another autopsy today -- on the Black Priestess. She was making another escape attempt from Blackstone, an overload in the shock-screens killed her. Some fascinating cellular structures there... but... I am more concerned about how she was yet another alien come to Earth for conquest. Are there really so few benevolent aliens out there? Wouldn't the societal structure needed to develop advanced spacecraft require a degree of peaceful camaraderie? Shouldn't the desire to meet and learn from other cultures supersede the drive to stamp out that which is different? There is so much we all could learn from one another, if we would allow ourselve. 15 January 2011 Mona is finally moved in! And, despite (or perhaps because of) the harsher-than-usual troubles we had in doing so, I feel a calm and tranquility I have not felt since... well... ever!

Dok spend a few seconds thinking on things, then tries to bring Thrude her weapon. Hilarity ensues.

"" the unarmored man with the small, oddly accented voice said, "" He reached for the Vendrvapn, attempting to pull it closer to her. "" he blurted out in modern German as he found himself utterly unable to even budge it, "

"Oh, I know all about that," he chuckled. "First-hand experience, even! But, ah, we can revisit that in a moment." He leaned forward slightly, "what I would like to know first is, do you still plan on not attending college?" "Because if you had changed your mind on that," he quickly added, "but were still harboring doubts due to, for instance, financial reasons, there are several programs in place for the staff of ArcheTech that continue their education."

"Oh?," his head snapped around with bird-like quickness. "Ah, yes, of course..." The Doktor closed his eyes, and concentrated again. His posture straightened, the twitching in his hands stopped, and his breaths came slower and more evenly. His hands went up in a fluid motion and smoothed out the brief case of Einstein hair he had been manifesting a moment earlier. The scanners showed activity in the frontal lobe decreased to the levels originally detected, and while the parietal lobe became less stimulated, it still 'ran hotter' than it had during the initial scan. And now the occipital lobes (visual processing) and parts of the temporal lobes (the parts associated with perception/recognition of auditory stimuli) flared up, as did parts of the limbic system (specifically, the parts associated with sensory processing/interpretation). A closer look revealed some sections of the frontal lobes were still more active: the sections dealing with social problem solving. He looked down at the arm, then over to Miss Americana. A serene look was upon him, and when he spoke, his voice was calm and even. "I do apologize for my actions a moment ago -- as you saw, my desire to tinker and improve things sometimes gets the better of me."

"Oh, no, please sit!" he insisted, indicating the two chairs before his desk. He returned to his seat, "these are not so urgent that they cannot wait an hour or two." Tucked in with the invoices and requisition forms was a flashdrive, holding a copy of the info the League and others got when she first arrived in this dimension, including the initial psych reports they ran. Also on it were copies of the (sparse) reports of the observations 'Lenya' had made on her since last February. Along with his own observations of her made during their last meeting at the Farettis, and his review of all of these earlier this morning lead to one inescapable conclusion: she was a hero, not because of the serum in her veins, but because of her ceaseless work to keep people from suffering the kind of losses she had. This was a goal he could definitely appreciate. "How are your classes going?" he asked casually. "You will be graduating this year, yes?"

Yes and no. His Timeshift Container's got 30PP in it, Insub 4 (Incorporela) is 20, so he would have 10PP left which you could use to keep some Quickness and/or Speed.

The Wide extra (from Mastermind's Manual) is not allowed, no. (This does not need to be stated in the House Rules, due to the second line saying "anything from another book which is not specifically listed here must be approved by the Moderators on a case-by-case basis") Kensons says that Power Reserve is just for improving the ranks of the power, not adding Extras or Power Feats. He says a GM may allow otherwise, but this is something the Refs would need to discuss. (And Ref discussion tends to take some time, so yo should assume the default ruling for now.) Also, I am wary of having Super-Senses as something Power Reserve adds to, for the same reason we're wary of Super-Senses being in an Array.

Erin noted several clearly marked exits, and that the windows in the lobby had all seemed quite sturdy. She did note several sharp corners where halls intersected, but she also saw several small cameras set in the ceiling, and numerous smoke detectors and fire alarm switches along her path. Her keen eyes also picked out several atypical seams in the walls and ceiling, concealed from casual observation by the pattern of the ceiling tiles or paintings and other decorations on the walls. The dark wood double doors of Archeville's office, each decorated with a large golden A, silently swung open moments before her knuckles hit, revealing the large office beyond. Doktor Archeville sat in a high-backed chair at a large glass-topped table (covered in neat piles of papers), in front of which were two smaller, leather chairs. On one side of the room was a bank of monitors showing stock updates, news (local and global), and advertisements for ArcheTech's latest products. At the other was a small bar flanked by neatly ordered bookcases, a few comfy chairs and sofas, and some small tables. "Ah, Miss White! Welcome!" He rose as she entered, a cheerful smile on his face, and walked around to the front of his desk to shake her hand. He glanced back at his desk, "ah, sorry for the mess, I was hoping to get these done before you arrived!"

It's as silent as a Blackberry/Droid/iPhone/whatever sending a text message to a system which then sends standardized IMs to every computer monitor in the building. So... no. However, his scent may be picking up on fear sweat from folks in the building. Correct, fail by 5-9 = stunned. The +2 Defense/-2 Toughness has zero bearing here, since those trade-offs [1] apply to Defense and Toughness, not Fortitude, and [2] they're something that alters what you can buy for your stats, not something that applies from situation to situation. Also, Jube really doesn't have that tradeoff at the moment -- his Defense is 10, his Toughness is 8, so he's actually PL 9 in terms of Defense/Toughness, with a +1/-1 tradeoff. You'll need to use unspent PPs to either buy more Defense, or some Dodge Focus, if you want to keep that trade-off and be at caps. Incorrect. His dodge bonus to Defense is a mere 5. His Defense (+10) is all coming from 'base' Defense, and half your 'base' Defense is dodge bonus (lost when you're flat-footed). Thus, in standard situations, his Defense is 20, or 15 when flat-footed. Doubling the dodge bonus gives him a Defense of 25... which is still not enough to avoid the exceptionally well-programmed targeting systems of the Stunner turrets. As I said, the Defense/Toughness tradeoff has no bearing here, so his reroll is 17. Fails by 2, only dazed. Correct, HP clears stunned, but not dazed. First time for everything! Way I see it, spending an HP to Recover from being stunned would be the only way to keep him on the go, running off as Archeville dramatically closes in. It does not, no. Future ideas though, for PP spending, is to buy up his Fort save, to represent his metabolism/regeneration being able to burn out things like this at a quicker pace. (That can also be the fluff for using an HP to Recover near-instantly from the Stun this round -- adrenaline surge or something.) I thought he was already using his Timeshift/Super-Speed, switching to it as soon as the ultrasonic beam scrambled his brain and turned him into Jubby? Oscillation Overthruster = Insubstantial 4 (incorporeal) to go through walls? Yeah, he's certainly got the points for it in his Timeshift container. Bear in mind, though, that it you're using the entire Timeshift container to AP this, it'll turn off his super-speed, so he'll be incorporeal but moving as regular human speeds. Also, be aware that you don't need to spend an HP for power stunts: you can do them with Extra Effort, which will fatigue you on the following round. On the round after, you can then use an HP to nix the fatigue.

Dok has actually been speaking Old Norse to Thrude (though with a modern Germanic accent). The "small voice" refers both to the fact he's considerably smaller than her, and he's got his Enhanced Intelligence/Comprehend on, not his Enhanced Charisma, so his Cha is a mere (even for mere mortals) 10. EDIT: Nevermind, cleared that up in Chat.

"Ah, yes, hello, Ms. White!," the very perky blonde receptionist said in Minnie Mouse voice. "Doktor Archeville is expecting you, up on the twelfth floor. Here," she continued, holding out a VISITORS ID badge attached to a blue lanyard, "you'll need this to get around." Erin wasn't sure which had a higher percentage of plastic, the ID badge or the receptionist's chest. "There's an elevator right down that hallway," she went on, pointing to the largest of the hallways behind her. There were a few people going up and down the hall, or chatting as they waited for elevators to arrive. "Have a super day!" Elsewhere, in his twelfth floor office, Archeville was going over some rather tedious paperwork -- signing off on several large invoices for assorted R&D equipment -- when an IM popped up on his monitor, alerting him of Wander's arrival. "Ooh, I should get a fruit tray, maybe some coffee and juice!," he mused.

I'm invoking DH's Hatred (those who disturb the dead) Complication, netting him an HP. Initiative times, yo! Dead Head: initiative (1d20+2=15) Mutt: initiative (1d20+2=12) Cultists (4): initiative (1d20=15) Head Cultist: initiative (1d20+1=2) White Knight: initiative (1d20+1=15) Cultists use Cultist stat from Book of Magic, and are Minions. Head Cultist uses stats for PL 7 Mystic from Instant Superheroes Tentative order 15: Dead Head: unharmed, 2 HP 15: White Knight: unharmed 15: Cultists x4: unharmed 12: Mutt: unharmed 02: Head Cultist: unharmed Need an initiative roll from you. However, also need to determine if there's a surprise round. Specifically, if White Knight or the cultists spot the heroes -- who, let's say, are 50 feet from the baddies -- before we act. With Grim's skill & Skill Mastery in Stealth (and Tiny pixie size), they have no chance of seeing her, but they may spot Ol' Deady. Well, they might if any of them had Darkvision. But they don't, and their lights do not shine that far! Good thing Dead Head, Mutt, and Grim do! (do recall that the purpose of this thread is for DH & Grim to meet & tlak about their immortality; this grave-robbing business is just an excuse to get 'em together!)
-
"Cain't do as much as I used ta," he said between gritted teeth -- Grim could see he looked as angry at the scene as she felt! "Used ta could make the bodies they was diggin' up get up an' slap 'em, but I lost that, and ain't figgered out how ta do it 'gain. But I can sure scare 'em." He looked back over the defilers, then back to Grim, "I'll take the cultists, you go fer the big guy, I'll join in once I get 'em scattered?" Run up, spook 'em -- hopefully these ain't more'a them 'stupid fearless' types -- should be a big enough ruckus for Grim t'get in there an' wallop White Knight. White Knight propelled himself out of the grave on jets of white flame, landing next to he coffin he had so casually tossed aside. With seemingly no effort he set the thing up on end and tore the lid off, revealing the long-dead corpse within. It had been a man, maybe twenty years ago, in a nice (worm-y) suit -- and, adding injury to insult, White Knight had held the coffin so the corpse was upside-down! The two in the grave hoisted themselves up, aided by the three (still droning) cultists above.

Doktor Archeville -- 5 HP, unharmed Standard Action: Activate Defense/Security system (the rules are utterly silent on what [if any] actions are needed to activate or use an HQ's Defense/Security system so after some consult with the Refs, I'm using the following: Standard Action to get it activated, Free action every round thereafter to use it assuming there is a Computer or Personnel in place to use it for the PC.) Security system attack vs. Jubatus (Defense 20) (1d20+15=32) Effect is Stun 9 (w/ Sedation), so that's a DC 19 Fortitude save. Move Action: Follow trail of chaos to track Jubatus
-
Archeville's enhanced mind was able to keep up with what was going on, with what Jubatus was doing, but he was utterly unable to react in time to stop him from darting out of the room. "Computer," the Doktor called out in a firm, commanding tone, "identify: Archeville, Viktor." Acknowledged "Sound silent alarm. Identify and track subject: Xavier, Jay, Jubatus." He pulled his labcoat back enough to access the controls on his Gravimetric Belt. Dr. Rao, per protocol, returned to her office as the silent alarm went off. Said alarm consisted of messages popping up via the internal IM system, warning of a danger in the building and for all staff to return to and remain in their offices until further notice. Subject tracked. Fourth floor, corridor North-K, nearing staff lounge. Jubatus could smell food! Well, food-like things, at least. Mostly plants and some... things he was not sure of, but there was some whiffs of meat, though it smelled slightly burnt. Archeville himself moved out of the exam room, gliding on waves of contragravity, following the path of chaos in Jubatus' wake. "Halt elevators, close all doors on this level beyond 100 feet of subject, and deploy neurostunners." Acknowledged Along the corridor down which Jubatus prowled, sections of the ceiling retracted and parted, allowing turreted beam weaponry to slide down. One fired a bolt at the cheetah, energy on a wavelength that would cause a normal human's neurological system to temporarily shut down; once down, the stunner would switch to a continuous ray to keep the target sedated. But Jubatus was far from an ordinary human: would it take effect?
-
"'The Next Big Thing,' whatever it may be," Archeville commented, "is something for which heroes and futurists both try to predict and prepare. But, my philosophy in life has always been to include some time to enjoy the quiet lulls between 'Events' while they last. All work and no play Viktor a cranky boy," he chuckled. Too bad no one at the table knew just how close 'the Next Big Thing' really was. "Ah, the curried chicken is wonderful," he nodded, "but I think I will go with the pork vindaloo. And a nice lager to wash it down," he said as he scanned the beer list. "So, this 'Crusader' -- what is his story? The name sounds familiar."
-
Archeville turned back to the monitor and studied the assembled heroes. "What?" He took an especially long look at Eli. "What?" The Doktor sighed heavily, and rubbed his temples. "It seems I should be added to the list of those who have experienced temporal anomalies: I usually have a decent sense of time, but according to my chronometers here, it is a day later than it should be. I went to sleep in my bedroom on the second floor, and woke up on the medbay in my sub-basement, with large sections of the place on fire, shrapnel in my chest, and my arms feeling like noodles." His hands tapdanced over the keyboard just below the monitor, "but it seems like I am the only one to experience memory loss, right? You all remember your trips?"
-
Archeville could not help but smile at Grim went into loving detail about the wedding plans. He thought of potential plans for he & Mona's wedding, of family (and how family != blood relation), and many others things besides as his mind ran at superhuman speeds. He would attend this wedding, the Epstein's (justified) anti-German/anti-Archeville feelings be damned. "You know," he said slowly, "even though I am the 'man behind the curtain' of our merry little band, I can still attend as Mona's '+1'. I can probably hide from your family members that would have the biggest issues with me..."
-
"," the small oddly accented voice behind her asked. "" "," the small voice urged. What was that warmth she felt about her? The last of her life's blood ebbing? "" The ice quickly melted and broke away at the application of his cutting torch, and now the super-scientist could do more than give reassuring words. His hands darted back and forth between her wounds and the first aid kit's worth of medical equipment he had spaced about his labcoat, pulling out chunks of ice and shards of the (surprisingly lightweight) metal plates of her armor embedded in her shattered collarbone, throwing a few quick sutures on the worst of the tears, and lots and lots of packing and wrapping the wounds. It was quick and sloppy, and did little to address the broken ribs, but it would keep her from bleeding out... he hoped. ""

Doktor Archeville 5 HP Free Action: Maintain Comprehend + Enhanced Int Free Action: Maintain Force Field (the Base one) Move Action: Close in to Thrude Free Action: Draw cutting torch (Corrosion 4 w/ Precise) from Utility Coat Standard Action: Use Cutting Torch on ice snare around Thrude Melee attack v. the icy Snare (1d20+8=12) Since the icy Snare is an object, it automatically loses 4 points of Toughness, then must make a DC 19 Toughness save. If that does not free her (I expect it will not), Free Action: Extra Effort to SURGE to gain another Standard Action. Standard Action: Melee attack v. the icy Snare (1d20+8=25) Loses another 4 points of Toughness, and faces another DC 19 Toughness save. EDIT: Changing (with Shaen's permission) that SURGE's Standard Action to a Medicine check to stabilize her (largely for fluff reasons, since all PCs have Diehard automatically) Medicine check, DC 15 (1d20+9=26)
