  2. In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your character posted IC this month (including the News forum). Please also mark things from the Non-Canonical forum as being non-canonical, as those count 1/2 (2 posts made for your char in a non-canon thread count as 1 post for the char). And if you are GMing something, list those threads, too. GM-only posts -- as well as NPC Villain posts -- also count 1/2, and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push' to get up in post numbers. When you make your list, please post a link to the IC threads -- preferably to the top of the page where your first post for that month appears -- so we (and the auto-count program) can jump right to it. When you post the link to your thread, the URL should look like this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&p=100643#p100643 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&start=10 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478 NOT this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?p=100643#p100643 The four digit number in the URL (bolded & underlined in the correct example) is the thread id number which we need to use the autocountamotron. When you start a thread, make sure [iC] is in the title/subject line of the IC thread, and [OOC] is in the title of the OOC thread. If you make a post in an IC thread as a GM or an NPC, add [GM] in the subject line of the thread. If you make a post and [iC] is not in the subject line, the AutoCounter will not count it. And if you do not put [GM] in the places you post as an NPC or Ref, it won't count those properly. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. Please clearly note any threads in which you are both player and GM/running an NPC. Also, when you start a new thread, please mark it on the Timeline (if you have a handle here, you have an account for the Wiki, and anyone with an account can edit it). You do not have to be specific on the date, but I would like to keep track of when things are happening relative to each other. The Timeline also serves as an index for everything we've done in the nearly three years this site's been active, and it's useful to know if X happens before or after Y. If you've done any extracurriculars -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, Vignette, Wiki work, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in your post counts being postponed or skipped completely.
  3. A fine post-Thanksgiving recipe! Curried Turkey (or Chicken) Salad Prep Time: about 20 minutes Yield: 6 servings 2/3 cup mayonnaise (or plain yogurt) 1 teaspoon curry powder 2 cups (approx. 8 oz.) cubed chicken or turkey breast 2 Granny Smith apples, cubed 1 cup red onion, diced 1/2 cup red pepper, diced 1/4 cup almonds, crushed 1/4 cup pecans, crushed 1. Mix mayonnaise (or yogurt) with curry powder in large mixing bowl until thoroughly blended. 2. Add all remaining ingredients and toss gently to cover with the dressing. 3. Refrigerate for 1 hour before eating (to allow flavors to mingle). Best if eaten within 24 hours, but can be stored for up to 72.
  4. "Grue/LV-13 hybrid is using assimilated minds as a neural network?", Protectron said flatly. "Each added mind increases its 'processing power'? 'Conquering Mind' is hub for a collective consciousness? Great potential, but only if all participants are willing and able to disengage when desired." It turned to Dragonfly and Miss Americana. "Lab-Friends, I propose one of us takes the Nullifier directly to the Mind, while the other two hold off any controlled assailants. Given my lack of ranged attacks as well as my expendable nature, I volunteer myself to be the deliverer." Then the explosions were heard over Sharl's call. "We must move faster," it said in the same exact flat tone.
  5. A heads up for all: I'll be gone this weekend (being a Good Son and helping Mom with some stuff around the house), Fri night-Sun afternoon. This will delay the counting of posts and awarding of points by a few days.
  6. "Challenging," he said cheerfully, joining her in the kitchen -- and trying to avoid stepping on Archimedes! -- to help in wrapping glasses. "Just got last quarter's finance reports in -- profits were on a downswing. We are still far in the black," he shrugged, "if nothing changes we will not have to start using red ink for at least five years. But, best to nip these problems in the bud before they get too big." "Which is why I am starting a new project for the company, exploring a few new revenue streams... one based on some ideas that you inspired!," he added with a devious grin.
  7. The two men leapt into the truck, the older in the driver's seat. He started it and drove off, almost leaving the woman behind. After the younger man beat on the older man some, they spun around and she jumped into the trailer, and they sped off into the night. Dead Head's cackle filled the night air, then cut off as he turned and looked at the new spook in town. Who the heck is that? Don't think I seen her before. I should go introduce mahself! Plopping his head back on his shoulders, the grinning ghoulie shambled down the hill. "Hey there, stranger!," he cheered, waving. "Don't think I seen you 'round here. What's yer name?"
  8. Protectron extended its right hand to Katastrof. "It pleases me to meet others who work to improve human conditions," it said flatly. "Could you go into more detail on your work with prosthetic devices? As well as other technologies developed 'for the good of humankind and betterment of the species'? I am also interested, albeit to a lesser extent due to my unfamiliarity with corporations and finances, on your business proposals."
  9. Protectron looked to Cyrne, then the others. It released the centaur-alien it had been holding. "I hope I did not harm you, Engineer," it said flatly. "If you require assistance in repairing your spacecraft, I would be happy to lend any service I can." It turned partly to Cyrne, so it addressed both aliens. "Machines are the natural help-mates to organics. I would not want your opinion on us to be soured by the actions of one rogue mechanoid."
  10. Though the temperature was only a few degrees below freezing, and a blanket of snow three inches deep covered everything, the sun shone clearly through the mostly-cloudless skies. So, too, did Doktor Archeville, flying over from his Hanover home to the soon-to-be-former home of his lover. He ad been helping her over the past few days with packing her belongings, though there were much that she insisted on doing herself. He had just returned from some last-minute prep at his place, and planned to enter via the balcony. Seeing that it was blocked by her mattress, he took an alternate route. Mona felt the slight twinge of vertigo that she knew always accompanied his teleportations. "All is ready on my end, liebchen! How much more is left to do here?"
  11. Per the orbital maps for Jan 31st, Jupiter is about 5.6 AU from Earth, and 35.97 AU separates Neptune from Jupiter. Before that, though, we'll pass through the Asteroid Belt, which is roughly 1 AU thick, and starts at close to the orbit of Mars. at ~2.3 AU, enter Asteroid Belt at ~2.9AU, leave Asteroid Belt at ~5.6 AU, reach Jupiter at ~41.6 AU, reach Neptune + Asteroid 1 Astronomical Unit = 8.31675359 light minute Traveling at 25c, we can go 1 AU in 0.333 minutes Enter Asteroid Belt in 0.765 minutes (45.9 seconds) Leave Asteroid Belt 0.965 minutes (57.9 seconds) Reach Jupiter 1.863 minutes (1 min 52 seconds) Reach Neptune + Asteroid 13.8 minutes (13 min 48 seconds) (The 4 hours travel time from Earth-Neptune I mentioned earlier was wrong; that's how long it'd take us to reach Neptune going at 1c, i.e., the speed of light.) We may want to take longer getting through the Belt, to make sure we avoid collisions ;)
  12. "I am calling it Jotunnfaust," Archeville replied, "'Giant-Fist.' Seems appropriate. Tough, if we do our job right, no one will ever need know of it." Archeville checked over the flight plan again. First would be the most hazardous portion, going through the Asteroid Belt -- which they were fast approaching. "Steady on, Major," the Doktor said, confident in Victory's piloting skill. "Once through this, it is a straight shot to Jupiter, then around it towards Neptune." He glanced over at Blueshift and cocked an eyebrow; he was not entirely comfortable with her rummaging around in League computers, but from what he knew she did not seem the type who would carelessly damage something.
  13. Awkward!Dok is the best Dok!
  14. Lynn was not as surprised as the others when Archeville sang, since she had been exposed to his particular brand of song stylings once before, but she probably did not expect the extent of what he did. "Deck the labs with rubber tubing Fa la la la la, la la la la. Use your funnel and your filter Fa la la la la, la la la la. Don we now our goggles and aprons Fa la la la la, la la la la. Before we go to our lab stations Fa la la la la, la la la la. Fill the beakers with solutions Fa la la la la, la la la la. Mix solutions for reactions Fa la la la la, la la la la. Watch we now for observations Fa la la la la, la la la la. So we can collect our data Fa la la la la, la la la la." "There was Cobalt and Argon and Carbon and Fluorine Silver and Boron and Neon and Bromine But do you recall the most famous element of all? Iron the red atom molecule had a very shiny orbital And if you ever saw him You'd enjoy his magnetic glow All of the other molecules used to laugh and call him Ferrum They never let poor Iron join in any reaction games. Then one inert Chemistry eve Santa came to say Iron with your orbital so bright won't you catalyze the reaction tonight? Then how the atoms reacted and combined in twos and threes Iron the red atom molecule you'll go down in Chemistry!" "On the first day of chemistry, my teacher said to me write down the safety rules. On the second day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, hydrogen is a gas and write down the Safety rules On the third day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas and write down the Safety rules. On the fourth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the fifth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the sixth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the seventh day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, is everyone on time, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the eighth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, don't touch the equipment, is everyone on time, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the ninth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, don't throw the glassware, don't touch the equipment, is everyone on time, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the tenth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, put down the matches, don't throw the glassware, don't touch the equipment, is everyone on time, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas,and write down the safety rules. On the eleventh day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, shut off the gas, put down the matches, don't throw the glassware, don't touch the equipment, is everyone on time, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules. On the twelfth day of chemistry, my teacher said to me, clean up the classroom, shut off the gas, put down the matches, don't throw the glassware, don't touch the equipment, is everyone on time, don't blow up the lab, get off the desks, wear safety goggles, acids are harmful, hydrogen is a gas, and write down the safety rules." "Test tubes bubbling in a water bath Strong smells nipping at ypur nose. Tiny molecules with their atoms all aglow Will find it hard to be inert tonight. They know that Chlorine's on its way He's loaded lots of little electrons on his sleigh And every student's slide rule is on the sly To see if the teacher really can multiply. And so I offer you this simple phrase To chemistry students in this room Although it's been said many times, many ways Merry molecules to you." And once the singing was done, ArcheClaus sat in a chair, book -- A Visit from St. Nicholas -- in hand, and gave a sly wink. 'Twas the night before Christmas, The lab was quite still; Not a Bunsen was burning (Nor had they the will). The test tubes were placed In their racks with great care, In hopes Father Chemistry Soon would be there. The students were sleeping So sound in their dorms, All dreaming of fluid And Crystalline forms. Lab-Aids in their aprons And I in my smock. When outside the lab There arose such a roar I leaped from my stool And fell flat on the floor. Out of the fire escape All of us flew. What was the commotion? Not one of us knew. The flood-lights shone out O'er the campus so bright It looked like old Stockholm On Nobel Prize Night. My fume-blinded eyes Then viewed (dare I say?) Eight anions pulling A water-trough sleigh. And holding the bonds Tied to each one of them Was a figure I knew As our own Papa Chem. With speeds in excess Of most X-rays they came. As they Dopplered along He called each one by name. "Now Nitrite, now Phosphate, Now Borate, now Chloride On Citrate, on Bromate, On Sulfite and Oxide. Forget what you know Of that randomness stuff, Let's go straight to that roof, If you've quanta enough." As fluids Bernoullian Behave in a pinch, Those ions said "Alchemist This is a cinch." So up to the lab-roof Those "chargers" they sped With Pop Chemistry safe In his water-trough sled. Just a microsec later Electroscopes showed Charged particles coming To our lab abode We raced back inside, And what d'ya think? Down the fume-hood Pop Chem fell, Right into the sink. He was dressed in a lab-coat, Quite ragged and old, With removable buttons (The style, we're told) A tray-full of beakers He clutched to his heart-- And under his arm Was an orbital chart. His eyes through his goggles I just couldn't see His hands were all yellow From H-N-O-3. His head was quite bald With a fringe all around Like a ring test for iron, That same shade of brown. He puffed a cigar With a smell not at all Unlike the organic lab Right down the hall. The smoke billowed forth From his angular face And with Brownian Movement Enveloped the place. He was thin as a match And not terribly tall He wasn't the type I'd expected at all But a look at his clothes, In the lab's harsh white light, With their acid-burn holes-- He's a chemist all right! He didn't say much (He had no time to kill) And filled all the test tubes With nary a spill. Then placing them back On the benches with care He dashed to the fume-hood And rose through the air. He called to his team And his ions took off And kinetics took care Of Pop Chem and his trough, But I heard him cry out As he flew down the street "Merry Holidays to all! May your stockrooms stay neat!"
  15. "Of course I do not mean to give any sense of false hope, Mr. Xavier," the Doktor said calmly, still maintaining a friendly tone, "so, yes, it is possible that even we will not be able to undo the transformation. But, I do have to say, both I and all those I have in my employ here have excellent track records, so I am fully confident that we can at the very least do something to bring you closer to something you desire, and to alleviate any pains or discomforts you suffer." When Jubatus produced the baggie of hairs, Archeville's face registered -- for just an instant -- sincere shock. "A most commendable attitude, Mr. Xavier!," the Doktor replied, his smile growing a bit wider as he took the pouch. "Though I suppose I should know better than to assume you would be living in the same place. I will have a genome writeup done on these, that will let us know what you were, and will thus help us in our attempts to get you back to that point." He examined the pouch, looking for root bulbs which would hold the most useable DNA.
  16. Archeville nodded, a frown flickering across his face for the barest fraction of a moment, then he smiled and chuckled again. "I am, yes, though it is going quite slow. Seems it is quite hard to find practitioners who are both reliable and willing to come forth, no matter how much I offer in compensation." He let out a soft sigh, "I suppose my own reputation may be partly to blame for that, but, if I keep at it, I am sure I can figure out something. Clearly there is something there, more than just standard mutations and alien gadgets and otherdimensional entities, but what it is, I am still in the dark on. I do wish the Farettis would return my calls, they would be an immense help in this endeavour." They talked on into the night, about the past, the present, and the future; about projects each was working on, recent battles and superhero team-ups, how their relatives were doing, and many other things. He made some oblique reference to moving in together, but they were either too subtle for Mona to pick up on, or else she did get them, but chose to avoid the topic (but kept it in mind, so she'd know how to respond when he finally did outright ask her, some months later). He also mentioned his plans to go back to Germany in three days, for the two-week-long Oktoberfest, and invited her along; as with the first time Archeville brought her to is homeland, many interesting times were had. But one night, after falling to sleep in one another's arms after a lengthy and tender night of lovemaking, something not human rose from their bed, turned, and regarded Mona Teymourian with cold, black, bulging eyes. The figure shuffled off quietly. When dawn broke, a smiling Archeville walked in, with breakfast in bed for the two lovers.
  17. Archeville's smile grew so broad it threatened to crack his face, and he hugged Mona tight. He eventually relaxed, and cleared his throat. "I mean... that is excellent, yes," he said seriously, chuckling at the end. "I do hope Archimedes like me; I knew you had a cat, but never did see him. Animals never did seem to like me much. Never could figure out why," he shrugged. "Maybe some odd biochemical marker in my sweat. Perhaps I should experiment with different deodorants and colognes..." There was of course a very good reason why animals didn't like Viktor Archeville, or any of his ancestors: they could sense the pseudonatural heritage of the Archeville family line. But since that corruption had been separated and pushed deeper down in him, some four and a half months ago, animals would start seeing him as no worse than any other human.
  18. The Doktor chuckled, "it is not the planning. It is the funding. Well, I suppose that does go hand-in-hand with planning...'" He tilted his head for a moment, lost in thought then snapped back up and regarded the fresh target in the range. Archeville's gun was as impressive as Colt has figured. Single shot, semi-, and fully automatic modes, with a variety of ammo styles (standard, armor piercing, rubber, high explosive). All told, it functioned like a primitive version of Colt's own guns.
  19. "The Feds have been looking after those two for many years already," the Doktor said simply, "I was merely continuing some prudent and cautionary observation, in as unobtrusive as manner as I could. You watched with us last June when Alex revealed her nature and her past, which I had known of for some time. I was not comfortable with what I did, but I did -- and still do -- feel it was the best option." Archeville was silent, and seemed to find the contents his glass of water endlessly fascinating.
  20. After about 10 minutes of searching, a sound caught Grimalkin's attention: a bloodcurdling shriek! Fairly certain that it was either Dead Head or someone Dead Head had just terrified (and because what heroine could not react to such a sound?), she raced towards the source of the yell. Moments later, she saw a pair of men, one young, one old, and a young woman, all making a mad dash down Lantern Hill and towards a worn pick-up truck. At the top of the hill, outlined by the light of the nearly-full moon, staggered the revoltin' revennat himself, holding his head up high! [bg=#000000]"Bewaaaare!"[/bg] he intoned, his voice carrying an eerie flanged, echo-y (one might even say speulchral) quality.
  21. Phone/Cable/Internet went out this morning, and the soonest they can send a tech is tomorrow afternoon. So, tonight, no internets for me :(
  22. Protectron looked over the two captured heroes in the holding cells. "Could the 'Conquering Mind's' telepathic network be used against it?," it asked flatly. "We have two infected subjects, and thus access to the network. Can any of you generate a signal to send across it which can temporarily overload/crash the network? Or replicate the signal of the Conquering Mind to issue conflicting orders to all infected?"
  23. Shortly after Supercape and his guest reached conference room 3-6, a strange golden robot zipped in on air jets protruding form its back and legs. The jets slowly cut out and it landed, but it still towered several inches above the two humans. Silvery chrome power cables snaked up and down its limbs and torso like exposed musculature; Daka crystal lenses adorn the forehead, shoulderpieces, and chest. Its head had two large, flat superstructures projecting from either side, and its visual sensors glow greenish-yellow. It had a mouth of sorts, a permanently open maw. And in each hand was a small basket, filled with fruits, power bars, and bottles of water. "Greetings," it said, speaking in a clear, precise, unaccented, flat voice. It turned to face Katastrof, "I am Protectron. This is for you." It held out one of the baskets to him, "I hope particles from the peanuts do not cause your mast cells to release inflammatory mediators." It turned its head slightly towards Supercape, and extended the other basket to him. "This one is for you. I do not know when your last meal was, but I know you have a predilection towards neglecting proper nutritional intake while working on your projects."
  24. Archeville chuckled, "not sure I would ascribe maturity to him," he continued circling, trying not to gape at Erik's blatantly superior moves, "at least, not yet -- but he is definitely working that brain of his. A refreshing thing to see! I have-" A loud beeping from Archeville's labcoat diverted his attention. "Pardon me," he pulled his Electromagnetic Screwdriver from his pocket and answered it as one would a mobile phone. "Archeville here... yes... oh... yes, of co-" Erik was unable to hear the next few words, due to an alarm going off in the Brownstone. The alarm just as suddenly cut off, replaced by the crackling voice of the police band. "All units in the vicinity of Hanover Institute of Technology report to the Wayne School of Management. Sightings of giant robots rising from the construction site have been coming in..." "Looks like a cache of killer robots was unleashed as they were digging for the foundation of a new building," the Doktor said, with a somewhat disconcertingly huge grin on his face. "Care to join me?"
  25. A faint whirring sound could be heard from Protectron's eyes as its optics zoomed in on Gossamer!Atlas. It turned back to Gossamer, "your friend possesses a remarkable ability," it said flatly, then turned to the other Gossamer. "Was this an ability you were born with, did it develop naturally later in life as you went through puberty, or is it the result of some accident or exposure?"
