FC:PbP is offering the community another "vignette" opportunity. If you'd like to read about our previous vignettes, check here. February! Valentine's Day! Twue Wuv! Carnal lust! (Well, PG-13-level carnality and lust.) Who: Any player who is interested, for one (or more) of their characters. What: Write a vignette featuring your character's first encounter/experience with love. This could be their first date, first kiss, first time having sex, first time saying "I love you" to someone (and meaning it), and so on; this can be the very first time, or first time with a particular lover (such as a current one, or a near-future one...). Length should be at least one (1) page per character involved. When: The deadline for submissions will be Monday, February 28th, by 11:59 PM EST (GMT -5). The vignettes themselves can take place at any time. Where: Anywhere. When you submit your vignette, please make a note clearly indicating in which forum it should be posted, as well as when it would be happening. Why: To enhance our community, to flex your writing muscles, to think more deeply about your characters, and to earn a bonus PP for your characters (the ones involved in this Vignette) for the month of February. How: Once your story is finished and proofed, PM it to one of the Refs (angrydurf, AvengerAssembled, Ecalsneerg, Geez3r, ShaenTheBrain, or myself). When all the stories are in, one of our staff members will post them to the appropriate forums (which is why we need you to be sure to tell us where it should go!), and provide links to them in this thread. DO NOT post them in a forum yourself, otherwise it will not be counted for this exercise. Remember that the Vignettes themselves do not count as posts. Post here with questions.

In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your character posted IC this month (including the News forum). Please also mark things from the Non-Canonical forum as being non-canonical, as those count 1/2 (2 posts made for your char in a non-canon thread count as 1 post for the char). And if you are GMing something, list those threads, too. GM-only posts -- as well as NPC Villain posts -- also count 1/2, and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push' to get up in post numbers. When you make your list, please post a link to the IC threads -- preferably to the top of the page where your first post for that month appears -- so we (and the auto-count program) can jump right to it. Speaking of the AutoCounter: when you start a thread, make sure [iC] is in the title/subject line of the IC thread, and [OOC] is in the title of the OOC thread. If you make a post in an IC thread as a GM or an NPC, add [GM] in the subject line of the thread. If you make a post and [iC] is not in the subject line, the AutoCounter will not count it! And if you do not put [GM] in the places you post as an NPC or Ref, it won't count those properly! Also, when you start a new thread, please mark it on the Timeline (if you have a handle here, you have an account for the Wiki, and anyone with an account can edit it). You do not have to be specific on the date, but I would like to keep track of when things are happening relative to each other. The Timeline also serves as an index for everything we've done in the nearly three years this site's been active, and it's useful to know if X happens before or after Y. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. If you've done any extracurriculars -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, Vignette, Wiki work, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. Additional note: When you post the link to your thread, the URL should look like this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&p=100643#p100643 not this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?p=100643#p100643 The four digit number in the URL (bolded & underlined in the correct example) is the thread id number which we need to use the autocountamotron. Help us help you (and help us keep some measure of temporal continuity )

Location: ArcheStern, the ArcheTech satellite research facility. 22,000 miles above the Galápagos Islands Archeville walked down the corridors of ArcheStern, breathing in all the science going on about him. The station had by far been one of ArcheTech's most successful (and lucrative) ventures, the former due to all his staff had done here, the latter due to all the space he had rented out to other companies seeking to take advantage of the unique microgravity environment and the views of the cosmos unobstructed by planetary atmosphere. He was on his way to the Core when his Electromagnetic Screwdriver picked up Blueshift's message. "What the- B9? B9, come in! I- blast!" The call ended before he could respond. Archeville flew the rest of the way to the Core, "status report, now!" The baker's dozen of technicians nearly fell upon themselves in reporting to Archeville, but none had any truly pressing news. It had been a fairly quiet day -- studying storms, migration patterns, and anomalies in Earth's magnetic field. A few scanners were trained out, but for today, many had been tasked with monitoring Earth-based phenomena. Then the alarms sounded. "83.9 seconds," he muttered, the commanded in a louder, clearer voice, "what is going on, people? Show me!"

Date: February 6th, 2011 (Sunday) "So, what are you doing for her, Billy?" KPOW! "And do not tell me she said not to get her anything, or do anything special, because when a woman says that, it always means 'you should know what it is I would like!'." KPOW! "So, what? A night out? Romantic get-away? Jewelry?" KPOW! Doktor Viktor Archeville had simply appeared in the Brownstone's training room a few minutes ago, as Colt had entered to begin his morning target practice drills. The Dok had asked if he could join in -- he had even brought an assortment of weapons in a gun bag with him -- and who was Billy to say no to the man who cut his monthly stipend cheque? Currently he was shooting off a Mauser C96. Oddly, the first real topic of conversation to come up, after the perfunctory small talk, was on the subject of Lynn, and his Valentine's Day plans for her.
-
Date: February 5th, 2011 (Saturday) Erik Espadas had just entered the Brownstone's training hall, when he spotted a familiar silhouette against the wall. "Ah, Jack, there you are!," Doktor Archeville greeted, stepping forward with hand extended. "I had hoped to speak with you, and thought you might already be in here practicing, so I teleported here directly. Guess I got here a bit early!" "So, how have you been?," he continued, shaking the swashbuckler's hand. "How is Jill? Doing well in her studies, I trust?" Erik wasn't sure which was more 'off' -- Archeville's original balls-out Mad Scientist routine, or this newer, kinder, softer version. One thing that was certain, though, was that in the last few times they had interacted (which had been over the course of several months), Archeville didn't set off the eerie tingle Erik would get when near him. Well, he didn't set it off as badly; the tingle was still there, but much reduced. Whether that was due to it truly being reduced, or Erik just acclimating to it, was up in the air.

Skies Above Freedom gets no love, so I say use that one. "Being a Superhero is NEAT" (a reference to Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking) ? "The Heros Are NEAR" (Near-Earth Asteroid Removal) ?

Dead Head looked at the staggered Nazi-Ghoul-Thing stuck between a tree and the business end of his shovel. He noticed that the Nazi's wounds were bleeding freely, as it would with a being, not an undead. Yet these three all had the stench of undeath about them, the same way someone possessed by a demon stank of the infernal. And that gave Dead Head an idea. "Bad enough you lot's tryin' ta hasten the world's destruction, but ta open yerselves ta this kind'a corruption? That's jes addin' insult t'injury." He spun the shovel around in his right hand, sinking the blade into the earth, while bringing his other hand around and placing it on the cultist's chest. "But I'm bettin' that if'n this lil' dark seed were taken outta ya," he said, the balefire in his eyes flaring, "well, ya jes' may start singin' a diff'rent tune." Buck up, Deady, this is gonna hurt. A lot. The balefire flames in Dead Head's eyes spread down his left arm and slammed into the Nazi-Ghoul's chest; the cultist's body began glowing with a sickly purple light. The cultist's light (both of its body and the weird red light in its eyes) flickered and began flowing towards the chest, concentrating in the spot where Dead Head's hand was; as it did, the Nazi-Ghoul's skin coloring shifted to a pinker hue, and its claws and nails shrank. The Nazi-Ghoul shrieked, first the shriek of a feral animal but turning to the shriek of a frightened man, as Dead Head pulled his left hand back, taking the eerie light went with it, concentrated into a ball of deep purple flame. YAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH bestrongbestrongbestrong bestrong bestrong be strong "Now...," the revenant said, ignoring the twin streams of black ichor falling from his nose, "you... gonna... talk?"

A normal person would see Other!Archeville instantly reply, as his inhumanly fast mental processes meant he could think through his blinding rage in a fraction of a second. But Mona, who was much faster, did see him pause and gnash his teeth for a (subjective) moment. In a different context, the look would be almost comical, but in this context, seeing the man that was and was not her man practically foaming at the mouth in rage, was anything but funny. "" he said mockingly. She unfortunately knew the lewd joke that would be the first thing. "" He made a dismissive wave, "Last month I acquired and have been studying blood and skin samples from Lukos, a werewolf! I've scanned Grimalkin and Jack of all Blades through countless training routines! I've been doing extensive work on Avenger, a vampire, and his meal-ticket, Phantom, the witch, and the little abomination they've got brewing in her belly! And you know what I've found?>" "" he spat. "" He snorted, ""

The robot hovered into the craft, and gently dumped the armor-less merc onto the floor. "Greetings, Geckoman," it said in a flat, electronic, but clear and easily understood voice, "My name is Protectron, and I had asked if you had any restraints with which to bind this antisocial human. This criminal." It rotated its head towards the suit it held in its other hand, then back to Geckoman. "My onboard communications systems are not fully operational -- I can receive but not transmit. I should be able to use component from this suit to communicate with you, Victory, and Blueshift. However, modifications have been made to this suit, which may impair my ability to- -utilize components to supplement own systems. Additionally, if this suit has been modified, and as Blueshift has indicated that two others are larger and appear stronger than usual, then there is high probability that all Power Corps suits have been modified. Caution is advised."
-
Some rightly feared what might happen if Doktor Archeville got a chance to study Protectron. Their fears were not unfounded.
-
Silly Power Corps, having Hard to Lose Devices. Your suit is Protectron's now! Well, it's likely way too small to fit. But he can at least take the helmet!
-
Protectron looked around to where Victory and the Pitchoo were (it was still not certain where Blueshift was, since it had been too far to see her when she first contacted everyone), then down to the unconscious Power Corps sniper. Protectron examined the knocked out mercenary, recalling files it had read while at The Lab on tech-using supervillains. This suit was slightly different from what had been scanned in previous encounters, but many basic elements remained the same, and it was able to remove the suit without much fuss. Suit in one had, unconscious merc in the other, it took off, towards the Pitchoo, and hovered before the main viewport. "Do you have any restraints with which to bind this antisocial human?" it announced, unaware that Geckoman was utterly unable to hear it.

The Flying Batmobile on Batman Beyond seemed to only have visual and maybe radar/radio concealment. It still made noise when it flew, and I don't believe any mention was ever made of it having an "emissions masker."

"Ah, here she is!," SantArcheville exclaimed, flitting over to Mona; the familiar blue glow of his Gravimetric Belt peeked out from behind the wide black leather belt. "How far would Weihnachtsmann get without Wehinachtsfrau, hrm? Not nearly as far as he would on his own!" He flashed a warm smile at her (through what she realized was a real beard!), and laid a soft kiss on her cheek. "So, now that we are all here," he turned back to Lynn, "what next? Presents? Feast? Games? Movies?"

Got an idea, but it may be too much a stretch for TT's liking. He's GM here, so he's free to veto it. Dead Head's going to try to de-necromancy-fy the staggered Nazi-Ghoul-Thing he's standing next to, hoping that doing so will make him more pliant to our requests. Lacking any sort of Magic Array, I'll be stunting it off the closest thing I can think of: his Anatomic Separation [3PP], using the pervasive necromantic energy he's got coursing through him (and under his mental control) which lets him control separated bits of himself to reach out, sync up to the necromantic energy coursing through the Nazi-Ghoul-Thing, and remove it. (TT said these guys are in fact alive, but heavily necromancy'd, like a person possessed by a demon.) Yes, this is probably going to hurt. Free Action: Extra Effort to stunt Full Round: Nullify Nullify check: Nullify check (1d20+12=31) Will save vs. Damage: Will save vs. Mental Damage, DC 18 (1d20+6=16) fails by 2, takes an injury. And he's exhausted, having suffered 2 fatigue conditions (one from Extra Effort, one form the Tiring power).

Meanwhile, in an unclaimed corner apartment on the 7th floor, Archeville had kept up his end by monitoring all security feeds and making sure everyone was on the up-and-up. (Though security was on the 4th floor, he knew that was going to be part of the tour, and since he didn't want to be seen, he used a bit of wireless gadgetry to monitor them from this apartment.) Surrounded by images of the camera feeds projected from his electromagnetic screwdriver, his inhumanly fast mind took in all the security scans, a sensation he was not unfamiliar with but tried to limit himself on, for fear of misuse. For now, though, he was content to sit back, pop open a second can of root beer, and take it all in; it would take hours for the grin to fade from his face. "," he thought out loud, in his native German, "" He manipulated the controls, and one window flicked to and stayed on the two scientists. "" Archeville continued monitoring all the security feeds. As he did, another thought popped into his head.

"I do not believe that is correct," Protectron said flatly. "Latest astrophysical measurings and calculations indicate the universe is a sphere with a radius of approximately 46 billion light years, approximately 13.73 billion years old, and containing an estimated 300 sextillion stars. Number of planets is, however, unknown. As imagination is defined as 'the ability of forming mental images, sensations and concepts, in a moment when they are not perceived through sight, hearing or other senses,' and since much of the findings of astronomy is based on supposition and extrapolation, it could be said that the findings of astronomy are mostly imaginary." "It was a pleasure to meet you as well," it added, extending one hand to the program.

"Dangit, Push!," the revenant yelled as he braced himself for a reckless kinetic wave, like the one he'd seen in their earlier encounter and knock down one of their own. The look of irritation quickly faded to confused relief as the wave went around him. "... hunh." But more pressing matters were at hand! Specifically, the hands of the Nazi-Ghoul-thing clawing at him (though the flesh swiftly re-knit itself), though now the two that were on him had been flung away, and one was stone-still. "Same hunger?," Dead Head roared, and raced towards the Nazi-Thing, shovel held high. "Only thing I hunger fer is justice!" The last was punctuated by the resounding CLANG of his shovel against the side of the Nazi-Thing's jaw. "Buddy, you think I seen the same light as y'all," he said with shovel blade directly over the thing's heart, "y'all need t'be gettin' yer eyes checked! I ain't even from th' same pantheon as y'all! Now, how 'bout ya tell ol' Dead Head what y'all are doin' up here, hrm? Last I checked, Hel's boat weren't ready t'set sail, so y'all got a while 'fore Ragnarok kicks off."

DH had attacked Nazi #2, and he's out. So, new target. Free/No Action: Regeneration knocks off 1 Injury, he's now at 'full health.' Standard Action: Charge Nazi #3 (the stunned one) Charging (+2 Attack, -2 Defense), All-Out Attack (+2 Attack, -2 Defense), Power Attack (-5 Attack, +5 Damage), Sneak Attack due to flat-footed target. DC 30 Toughness (1d20+11=22) If he falls, then Move Action to speed-shamble over to the last standing Naz-Ghoul.
