  1. The melted goo at Archeville's feet -- very similar to the goo binding the handful of staff to the wall beside him -- was an unusual sight, but the grim and determined look on his face was almost frightening. "I vill be better vonce dese svine are removed from mein Castle! Did you see the speedster? He stole mein Screwdriver! But dat can vait -- I am going after de leader, who is in de process of stealing more from me! Can you stop de ozhers?" The Doktor flew off, fading from view and hearing as he went. He raced to the other laboratories around the Castle, at found Binder on the fourth floor. Still cloaked, he positioned himself for a surprise blow, but the armored foe turned unexpectedly at the last moment and Archeville's fist bounced off armored plating! The Castle's Defense Systems, having taken down Slick, sought out more combatants. It re-acquired Blackstar and Radium, and fired another round of the capturefoam at the living nuclear reactor, once more binding him.
  2. Archeville's smile broke into a laugh. "Well, that cinches it -- you are hired right now!" He looked to his Screwdriver, then to her, then back to his Screwdriver, then back to her. "I would of course love to see your inner workings, but also fully respect your desire for privacy. And I know you have been eying my little gadget... I think I know a way we can both satisfy our curiosity." "I will allow you to take control of -- or inhabit, I suppose is a better term -- my Electromagnetic Screwdriver," he waggled the device in front of her, "for... one minute, if, in doing so, you will set it to whatever sensors you would be comfortable with me using to scan you. You will find it can be quite a versatile little gadget."
  3. DONE BY AA Edits for Dok, finally spending the last of his unspent pps (5 of 'em). * addenda to history and other fluff. * editing of Complications. * Removed all ranks in Knowledge (Behavioral Science, Business, Civics) and 1 rank in Perform (Oratory). 16 ranks = 4pp. 9pp total left to spend. * 3pp to add Feats: Contacts, Online Research, and Well-Connected. * HQs: Removed Contacts and Well-Connected. Added Disguise to the Enhanced Skill -- sometimes he likes to slum it, or to just be able to go out without being hounded by the paparazzi. * Utility Labcoat: added Autofire 2 [+1 rank per 2 points attack exceeds Defense, maximum +4 ranks] to the Snare in his Utility Labcoat, representing him throwing lots of steel-wire bolos or quick-hardening foam pellets. * 1pp to remove Limited [1/2 effect] from Immunity to Aging and Sleep. * 2pp to buy off some of his Pseudonaturally Enhanced Mind Array's Action Drawback, reducing it to Move Action (like his Gadget). * 1pp to add Subtle to his Pseudonaturally Enhanced Mind Array. This is really something that should've been on there from day one. * 2pp for Morph 6 (+30 Disguise, one other form [Evil!Archeville/Chevalier]; Flaw: Uncontrolled; PF: Metamorph [to Evil!Archeville/Chevalier]; Drawback: Action 2 [standard]) [2PP] * added some notes under his Quickness. * Slight reformatting of powers. And for some reason the [ code ] blocks are acting weird, so I had to put this in two code-blocks. 4. Archeville's smile came back in full force as he removed his Screwdriver and began adjusting it, "thank you. For permitting this, and the compliment on my security. Now, if you could use your cyberkinesis to manipulate the-," he waved the techno-wand near her head, "... oh. Oh, now that is interesting." "It appears you are already using your abilities," he said, obviously curious at this, "for I am detecting a very potent -- and very encrypted -- radio transmission coming off of you. Which again makes me wonder if, given your focus on computer software and medical prostheses, the body I see before me is not a very advanced gynoid which you are 'piloting' from afar via your cyberkinesis."
  5. Archeville's smile fell, though he did not let it go completely. "Your privacy would of course be guarded, any data on you kept on highly secure servers. You are even free to submit a resume and receive your paycheque in the name of Miss Americana, keeping your identity to yourself; such practices are good enough for the courts, and are acceptable to ArcheTech. But tests would need to be done to insure that nothing here interferes with the functioning your abilities, and vice versa. I believe a simple -- and non-invasive -- scan of the particular frequencies and wavelengths your cyberkinetic abilities operate on would suffice; I could even run such a scan here and now," he opened his coat enough to reveal the tip of his Screwdriver poking out of the pocket, "if you would allow."
  6. Trevor follows the left-hand path, towards the flickering lights and baleful chanting. The path went another thirty feet or so, gently sloping to the left, before opening to an enormous (roughly 60 x 60 foot) cavern, surrounded by a narrow ledge and lit with torch, candle, and oil lamps. Six robed cultists, three in black and three in red, scampered about the room. Two chant while mixing a foul-smelling liquid in a large vat up in the northwest corner, while two others chant as they pour buckets of the slime into a deep circular groove set into the center of the chamber. The circle, taking up half he chamber, held a stone altar, with robed cultists on either side chanting and throwing some sort of powder into the air. At the head of the altar (which was the farthest side from where Trevor was) stood a seventh chanting figure, in dark red robes adorned with numerous small animal skulls. Strapped to the altar: Travis, beaten and bloodied! Bookshelves stand against the walls, though only a few books sit in them. Two slate tables in the southern section of the cavern contain chemical (alchemical?) apparatuses. At the far end of the cavern are two passages. Both are lit, and the one on the left is where the animalistic roars and rattling chain sounds are coming from.
  7. Archeville's smile broadened, "well, as long as you are not opposed to occasionally being asked to direct your inventiveness in certain directions, I believe you would do quite well here. As I said, we do permit some time for solo and personal projects," he clicked the Screwdriver again, and the holograms switched to showing scenes of a lone scientist, or a scientist directing a handful of interns, "and we encourage staff -- to the extent our insurance and HR policies allows -- to take initiative and push boundaries." "There is one other caveat for you working here," he clicked off the image and twirled the Screwdriver in his fingers for a moment before returning it to his pocket. He fixed her with a steely gaze, "and that is that you must submit to a physical. It is something we have all Metahuman staff undergo, partly to make sure there are no potential problems with your abilities interacting with some of the more delicate equipment and sensors we have here, and partly to further our own understanding of metahuman physiology."
  8. Archeville was about to say something to Liebniz when he started, but Fraser beat him to the punch. "Yes, vell," he paused to clear his throat, "now dat ve all know who ve are, ve can begin to formulate how best to use our intellect and skillsets. At you seats you vill find a tablet computer, virelessly connected to de holographic display system I have set up; you can use it to sketch out designs or ideas und dey vill be projected above de table for all to see. Now, I vould like to use someding Herr Fraser said as a starting point-" "De subject of veaponry. Firearm proliferation is a problem; vhat are some ideas you have for better protective gear und non-lethal veaponry for law enforcement agents?"
  9. Dok 'ported KC and himself to the shore, as KC instructed. The Squrm is half a mile (~2,500 feet) off shore. (International waters!) Even if KC flew all-out, that'd get him 400 feet closer. He still wouldn't be able to even see it, and even if he could, his Blasts can only reach a max of 800 feet. Would you like to change your IC post?
  10. Archeville nodded and smiled, "well, the entire purpose of ArcheTech is to broaden horizons -- in a safe and socially conscious way, of course -- and you certainly seem to have the technical qualifications. And you seem a fine fit to the psychological ones as well; anyone specializing in medical prostheses is bound to have a compassionate streak. How well do you work in a collaborative setting?" The Doktor withdrew a slender wand-like device from his coat pocket -- his famed Electromagnetic Screwdriver -- and pointed it at the desk in front of them. A life-sized hologram projected from it, out to the middle of the room, showing an assortment of laboratories filled with busy scientists and technicians. "You would be allowed some time for solo projects, but there would be some collaborative components to what you do here, too, aside from the numerous interns we have from FCU and HIT. The default set-up here is to work on projects with others, to foster camaraderie and a general spirit of cooperation; many projects here are worked on by people from a variety of fields, since many problems can only be tackled with an interdisciplinary approach. Since medical prostheses is itself an such a field, crossing anatomy and biology with cybernetics and robotics, I cannot imagine that aspect would bother you, but would you be able to work well with others?"
  11. I've PMed tryrar and Darksider to intro Dyne and Rift. Anyone hear from them lately? Looks like tryrar hasn't been here in a week! :argh:
  12. "I bet that ability has been of great help in your inventing," he said as he skimmed the holo-resume, and then over the holographic emitter. "Being able to put yourself inside a device as you work on it, able to feel how it works and better intuit how it should work or could work... I can only imagine what that must feel like!" He turned, and met her intent glare with a questioning one of his own. Mentally he was reviewing everything he knew of her, both as presented here and from the Brainiac Brunch. "Ah, Miss Americana, at the risk of violating certain HR policies..." he began, leaning forward a bit, "I must say that your appearance does not match what one would expect from your resume and what you have told me. The few cyberkinetics I know, and most of the inventive geniuses of your caliber that I have had the pleasure to work with, are... a rather plain and unassuming bunch. You, on the other hand, not only look like a model, but you carry yourself as one, too. Which is a bit confounding." He unclasped his hands and tapped his chin with one finger, "how long have you had your Metahuman abilities? Did they manifest after some particular trauma, or exposure to some mutagenic agent?"
  13. "Well, I know you will be easier to study than Avenger is," he said as he returned with a few more covered dishes, "since my cameras can actually see you! As for 'breaking natural laws'..." "... let me be the judge of that. If you break them too much, I will need to give you a ticket!" He laughed again, the looked over the table and nodded, "Alright, I do believe this is everything!" He pulled out a chair for her, and began uncovering the dishes. "I decided to focus on South Indian cuisine, since that is the type served at the restaurant I have the room patterned after, as well as the type I am least familiar with. I considered doing a bit of Hyderabadi cuisine, too, but that is a bit too far advanced for me... for now." He winked as he passed her a poured glasses of ice water for them, "please, do help yourself!" The food was quite tasty. Lynn'd had better, but she'd had far, far worse, too.
  14. "I try to employ the best, and give them the best to work with," he said, smiling. He appeared unphazed by her show of leg, focusing on her eyes and the rest of her face as they talked. "What sort of position were you looking for? Any particular field you wished to work in? We are always hiring, in all sorts of areas. Ah," he folded his hands in front of him, "I do not suppose you have a resume on you, do you? Or some examples of devices you have created?"
  15. "No, no," Archeville chuckled as he leaned in, "he simply overlaid Mister Lorre's image with that of Godzilla, and tweaked his lines so they sounded more like Godzilla was roaring them out. Like how Peter Frampton can make his guitar 'talk'..." He snapped his fingers, "a fitting analogy, since in the original films, Godzilla's roar was created by rubbing a resin-covered leather glove along the loosened strings of a double bass and then slowed down the playback!" "What?" he whispered back, reaching up and twining a lock of her hair around his finger. "Can a man not relax with the woman he adores, and a few 'work buddies'?" Archeville was definitely in a more relaxed and jovial mood, and had been for the past couple of weeks. The fact he was not speaking in his usual outrageous accent -- something he was fully capable of doing, but usually only did amongst those he was fully comfortable with, like Fulcrum after their first few dates -- was itself enough to indicate this, but his relaxed and casual nature, and interest in 'hanging out', left no question. Dynamo's talk of his education was just enough to pull some of the Doktor' attention away, though he smiled when he heard Mona's encouragement joining his. "An excellent attitude to have, young man! Science will get you far in life, especially when you can apply that knowledge to the workings of your own abilities!"
  16. 25 does hit. Its Defense is 18, so it hits by 7, which allows her to add +3 (7 / 2 , round down) from Autofire, for a total DC of 37. Toughness save, DC 37 (1d20+8=15) Fails by 22, it's KO'd. Or torn to pieces, if she's doing lethal damage.
  17. Archeville smiled and sat at one of the seats in front of his desk, and gestured to Miss Americana to join him. "Actually, I was referring to the guidance system within ArcheTech itself. The little glowing arrows which lead you here. No detours or anything? I upgraded the security here a few months ago, and there have been a few... issues with the integration." He shifted slightly in his chair, "Always glad to hear we have fans, though. And I do mean 'we', because everyone here at ArcheTech has contributed much to the whole, something I strive to make sure is never overlooked. Ah, tell me, though," he shifted again, crossing one leg over the other, "what is it that brings you here? A follow-up to some of our discussions at the Brunch? Or," he chuckled, "have you come seeking employment?"
  18. "Ha ha! Caught you off-guard, did they?," he replied, mouth a Cheshire grin and looking around with hands on hips, quite satisfied at his surroundings. "Though I do have to say, even I am impressed at how efficient they can be!" "Robots, you see?" he exclaimed/explained as he helped Lynn set the dishes down. "There are scores of them skittering all over the place, tending to the day-to-day maintenance of the house, as well as rearranging furniture or other tasks as needed. I had set them to start rearranging the dining room after the Kammerdieneraffe lead you through here -- a recreation of a charming little place in Malaysia I had visited once -- and I had hoped that by the time I got everything out and ready they would be done, but half-expected us to walk in and see them doing some finishing touches." "And, yes, after the meal, we can go down to the laboratory for some tests," he added as he returned to the kitchen for more items.
  19. ... if all of you do that, you're all gettin' pinched!
  20. The elevator did not open directly to an office, but to a carpeted hallway. When Miss Americana stepped out, small arrows of light appeared on the walls, pointing down a certain path. Her own radio senses detected the signals coming from her visitor's badge, interacting with the building's systems to escort her to her destination. The arrows lead her to a set of dark wood double doors, with large As in gold on them. Before she got within five feet of them, they silently swung open, revealing the large office beyond. Doktor Archeville sat in a high-backed chair at a large glass-topped table, in front of which were two smaller, leather chairs. On one side of the room was a bank of monitors showing stock updates, news (local and global), and advertisements for ArcheTech's latest products. At the other was a small bar flanked by neatly ordered bookcases, a few comfy chairs and sofas, and some small tables. "Ah, Miss Americana! Welcome!" He rose as she entered, and walked around to the front of his desk to shake her hand. "No problems finding the place, I trust?" he asked with a slight chuckle.
  21. So it's 31 -- Wander 14 -- KC 13 -- Dok 10 -- Mobs 08 -- Squrms
  22. Yeah, no one else can beat that. Dok Initiative (1d20+7=13) Squrm at Ocean (Minion) Initiative (1d20+4=8) Squrm at Asylum (Non-Minion) Initiative (1d20+4=8)
  23. ... yes, and Dok's speaking was "introduce yourselves, schnell!"
  24. Hey, look, there's an IC thread to post in and make (semi-)formal introductions! ;)
  25. Archeville quirked an eyebrow at Kid Cthulhu's mention of his own experiences with mystic tomes. "To the shore!," the Doktor exclaimed, and both he and the Cthulhoid Kid were sucked away in a swirling blue-grey wormhole. A few miles away, Archeville and KC appeared on the shore, behind the throngs of staring people who still looked outward to the ocean. The Squrm was still out there, but from this spot, the heroes could not see it. Erin was alone in her employer's house. But there was something that needed punching over at Providence Asylum.
