  1. "Do not be so quick to put yourself down, frau Drachefliege," Archeville said supportively. "De fact you haff created a device capable of generating a pocket universe of dat size, dat is small enough to fit into your gauntlets, is an achievement you should be proud of!" The approaching tall strawberry blonde (Jessica) next caught the Doktor's attention. He'd seen her talking with the AEGIS folks, and had planned to see them next, but if she came closer to him first, so much the better. He waved her over, "hello, hello! Alvays glad to see new faces!" Archeville waved Fraser over, "John, hello! So good to see you again!" His face suddenly lit up, and he turned to Gossamer and Vivian, "Doctor de Havillan! Ve just got anozher chemist!"
  2. Silver's a relatively soft metal (like gold), and so makes for lousy edged weapons. Even "real silver" silverware isn't made from silver, it's either made from an alloy (typically silver/copper) or is just silver-plated. And since silver's about 20% denser/heavier than most steels, and a sword would require a lot of silver (an expensive metal -- 3 pounds would run over $850 in today's market), a sword would never be made from pure silver, it'd be silver-plated.
  3. The lambent emerald flames in Dead head's eye continued to flicker in the murky, casting weird shadows about him. The path was almost completely submerged now, with one small pocket of air several hundred feet in -- further than a normal man could reach, and Trevor himself almost reach for his rebreather before his keen eyes noticed the shimmer of the water's surface. He had to control himself to not gasp and take in large gulps of cool air into his burning lungs, as such would make a noticeable racket, but to his mentor's credit he retained his calm. Sinking back into the murk, the tunnel continued another several hundred feet. When he surfaced this time, he found himself in a wider tunnel, only half-submerged, opening to a small (roughly 10x10) chamber filled with lit red and black candles, set on the floor or in nooks in the wall. Strange sigils were painted in red and black on the cave walls, and a leering cow's skull with half-melted candles atop it greeted the intruders. At the far end of this vestibule was another opening, a tunnel sloping to the left. Dancing shadows indicated the presence of more candles, and Trevor's ears could just make out the sounds of chanting and movement coming from beyond.
  4. Youngest-looking, probably, what with her being all scrunched up in herself, and a tad on the malnourished side. Unless you want Evil!Dok to realize his mistake by studying her closely...
  5. "It vas... dis one" he said after a moment's scan. It was a black, leather-bound tome, and what little Erin saw as he flipped through it was all gibberish to her. He hrmed and murmured as he flipped back and forth through the book, "I dought dis vas de one, all of dese images look familiar from when I flipped through it a few moments ago... but I cannot find de page I had actually read from." Kid Cthulhu sensed that the Doktor did indeed hold the correct tome in his hands.
  6. "How in blazes should I know? It vas von of Taylor's books -- I am just as surprised dat anyding happened!" "Vait -- dey got loose? Okay, ah, let me see..." He began to sit up, then realized Erin was still pinning him. "Ah, I can think better if I can pace, or at least can see the book I vas reading dat started all dis. Und is he mit you," he nodded towards Kid Cthulhu, "or wit dem?"
  7. Archeville coughed and sputtered awake, "pfaugh!" "Vh... vhat is going on here?! Vhat dings? Released..." Comprehension slowly dawn on the confused Doktor's face, "vait, you mean dat passage I read from Taylor's book actually did someding?!"
  8. "Oh, I am sure dere are von or two ozher chemists around here, somevhere..." Archeville playfully replied, making an exaggerated show of looking around the room. His scan was not entirely in jest, though, as he did note several more people of interest. "Ah, more guests to greet!" He touched Gossamer on the elbow as he left, "pardon me, please!" A shadow fell over Dragonfly's void. "Pocket dimension, eh?," the Doktor said as he appeared out of nowhere and loomed over. He flashed a smile at Miss Americana, then back to Dragonfly. "I haff a few of dose meinself. I live in von! Doktor Archeville," he said, extending a hand, "very pleased to meet you."
  9. Kid Cthulhu's calming words do nothing to alleviate the jogger's fear, and in fact he runs all the faster from the hideous tentacle-monster come to tear out and share his precious organs with the other tentacle-monsters. "Kinda busy with some monsters of our own!" Phalanx's voice responded over the comm. Just Erin's luck -- she gets to the point where she thinks to call her teammates, and they can't help! When Erin returns to the library, she finds the Doktor still unconscious on the floor. An unusually cold wind blew through the burst window, scattering papers to and fro.
  10. A look of... confusion, maybe? It was hard to tell -- crossed the Squrm's face as what it thought was its kinfolk unleashed a fiery blast at it. The bolt struck true, and the thing tumbled down like a deflating balloon. Once it hit the road below, its form hissed and shrieked like its two brothers. The jogger lay still, and the matron and her poodle were dashing off. Faces peered out of the houses along the road, butmany turned quickly away once they say the heaving, smoking, squelching things in the road. What of the other two things? One had gone east, out to the sea, hile one had gone south, towards the river... or the heart of the city. But they were nowhere to be seen now, their wings carrying them at inhuman speeds.
  11. For the Minions, you can Take 10 on the attack. I said KC's eldritch fire counts as fire for the Squrm's weakness, so his Blast 8 is treated as Blast 12 (DC 27). Toughness save, DC 27 (1d20+8=25) it's KO'd Wander's up... but the other two are long gone.
  12. Enough to still worry about Grim, do something!
  13. Round 2 30: Wander -- unharmed -- 4 HP 25: Dok -- unharmed, fatigued, KOd -- 6 HP 24: Squrm D -- KOd, -1 Con 21: Squrm E -- KOd, -1 Con 17: Squrm A -- unharmed 10: Squrm C -- unharmed 7: Squrm B -- unharmed 6: Kid Cthulhu -- unharmed -- 3 HP Squrm-with-Jogger drops jogger (who is rendered quite unconscious), tries to telekineticaly grab Wander. It's TK is Perception range, so it automatically hits, but the best result it can get on the Grapple check (32) is less then the lowest result Wander can get (35), so the grapple fails. It flies off, towards Kid Cthulhu. The other two continue flitting off into the distance.
  14. The two squishy squid-things fall to Wander's blows, and when the hit the street below their bodies begin hissing and making a noise like fingernails on a chalkboard. The woman she's saved is in shock for a moment, but as soon as her dog is restored to her hands, she snaps to and bolts. The third thing, seeing its brothers fall, drops the yuppie jogger it had lifted (who now lies very still on the ground), and waved its tentacles at Wander. She felt a force around her, like invisible tentacles encircling her... but these things had never encountered anything like Wander before, or they would have known their force was insufficient. Seeing this, it bolted, somersaulting towards Kid Cthulhu. The young hero almost got the impression it was... seeking aid?
  15. I'm not really tracking initiative at this point, so you're free to post. Opposed Nullify check (DC 26) (1d20+10=23) Huzzah! Colt gets a cone-shaped area of fire put out.
  16. I'm sayin' he's old, and has been doing the Hero thing for far longer than most other PCs.
  17. "Norse, eh? Well, I-" Archeville's eye was caught by another newcomer, or, rather, he acted as if it were. In truth, the woman's words were setting off alarms in his head. "Vell, ancient und hidden technologies are not someding I haff made much study of lately, due to mein attentions being drawn to so many ozher projekts. Ah, do excuse me -- so many people to greet!" He made his way over to Don and Quentin. "Ah, Professor Fried, Professor Quill! So good to see you both made it!" He shook both men's hands enthusiastically, "I vas hoping to talk mit both of you on some projekts I am vorking on!" "Ah, do excuse me, gentlemen, more guests to greet!" he said as Gossamer's golden hair caught his eye. "Doctor de Havilland! So good to see you again!" He greeted her with a hug, "glad to see ASTRO vas villing to spare you for a few moments."
  18. "In a bad position" was my attempt to give an in-game reason why you rolled so poorly on the Nullify check. I.e., if you roll better on your next attempt, it's because shot from a better position. ;)
  19. This is what the apartments look like, from the front (where Colt is now). Well, more like this, what with it being night. That do?
  20. She KOs them if they fail the Toughness check. ... but with only +8, the best they can do is fail Wander's DC 29 punching by 1, so, yeah, she KO's 'em.
  21. Hunh, they gave her ranks in a skill (Research) that doesn't exist in M&M (but it does exist in D20 Modern). KENNNSON!!! :argh:
  22. DC was 15 (to get them from "Indifferent" to "Friendly"), so that does it.
  23. I'm going to be nice and assume that he does take a move action to close that 270 foot gap between him and the target. Flight 1 = move 100 feet, so he's 170 feet away. KC's Blast 8 has a range increment of 80 feet, so he's 3 increments away, imposing a -2 per increment after the first (-4 total). That reduces his attack from 17 to 13. I'm listing this for the sake of completeness, as the original roll the Defense 18 critters anyway. Knowledge check of 17 tells him a few things (check IC). Wander's up! The three playing with people are about 500 feet from the house, the two that veered off are 2,000 feet away.
  24. Kid Cthulhu, still far from the scene, loosed a blast of eldritch fire, but the distance was still too great, and the blast was off by quite a bit. As his weird energy bolt sped out, the young hero heard strange whispers in his mind, giving him brief glimpses of what he faced. He saw these things, which he somehow knew on a gut level were called Squrms, soaring through alien skies and commanding hordes of thralls, human and otherwise. One waved its tentacles, and the ruins of a building crumbled; another made strange gestures, and the rubble lifted up and arranged itself into a crude obelisk-like pile. Some of the thralls, not quite fully conditioned, tried to fight the Squrms, with fire and with talismans (bearing symbols which hurt the hero to look upon); these held the things at bay for a time, but their number were too great, and all who were not enslaved were picked up and consumed by serrated beaks concealed within the writhing masses of tentacles.
  25. Oh, and for the record, Dok is rocking his Enhanced Charisma during this thing. 8-)
