  2. "Be care-" Archeville began to say, but Fulcrum was already gone. The Lord of the Castle zipped through the air, through the empty ballroom to the castles communication's center. A handful of staff stationed there were frantically trying to contact authorities, but something -- perhaps the walking nuclear reactor one floor below them -- was causing interference. The Doktor did not need to make an outside call, though. Speakers concealed in every room in the castle crackled to life, as did several outside the castle. Holographic images of the Doktor also appeared, in every room, and at the main entrance. Feral eyes glared out, and his voice roared out, "Wissenschafts-Geschwader! Again, Fulcrum did not know what was being said, but it sounded damned frightening. It certainly had an effect on those she saw: Blackstar's face fell and eyes widened a bit, while Slick actually stutter-stepped as he almost tripped over himself. And she could just see Radium, in the courtyard, had paused... ... and was now being sprayed with a light gray foam from nozzles in the ceiling, which quickly hardened and turned him into a veritable statue!
  3. The Persian Powerhouse gives Blackstar the bum's rush... but to little effect! He staggers back a couple of feet, then turns and snorts derisively at her! Binder barks out something in German -- actual German, not the German-accented English she's been hearing all day/evening, and in a far harsher tone. He whirls his gun around to bear on her, and a stream of sticky (and quickly hardening) resin engulfs her! Before seeing how effective (or not) his chemical payload is, concealed jets in his armor's boots ignite, and he flies into the Castle, past the still-stunned Thunderbolt and the strolling Radium. Fulcrum loses sight of him as he turns left down a hallway. As she struggle with the sticky resin, the young speedster in purple appeared, though he kept some distance from her. He stretched his hands out, and Fulcrum suddenly felt the resin get even stickier! Not just that, but the air seemed thicker. He quips something in Portuguese; while the words are not clear, the tone is clearly cocky and somewhat lecherous. Blackstar, still a few feet in front of her, felt the effect, too, as he clearly struggled in his movements. He glared at the speedster, who was now literally running circles around the two.
  4. Blackstar wasn't in his dense form -- he was at normal density/weight, waiting for Cyclone to pick him up (then he'd go dense mid-air after Cyclone flung him). GM Fiat to let him switch on his Density and not be creamed rightout the gate. Fulcrum gains an HP. Your total is actually +1 higher -- you forget the 1 rank of Flight Fulcrum has outside her Array. Which puts that total at 33, which (without his Immovable) Blackstar can't beat. But how far you push him depends on how much he fails the opposed check by. Opposed Rush check; +10 Str, +2 Super-Str; no Immovable due to Fulcrum's Unstoppable (1d20+12=31) Only fails by 2, which per the Progression Table is... a mere two feet! 22 -- Blackstar -- Unharmed 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed -- 2 HP 17 -- Binder -- Unharmed 16 -- Slick -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cyclone -- Unharmed 4 -- Thunderbolt -- Bruised, Stunned 4 -- Radium -- Unharmed Binder Free Action: Start Master Plan. Standard Action: Fires his Glue-Gun at Fulcrum, attempting to bind her & anchor her to the ground. Ranged Attack (Snare) vs. Fulcrum (Defense 18); includes +2 from Master Plan; DC 20 Ref save if it hits. (1d20+8=11) GM Fiat for reroll; Fulcrum gets another HP. Ranged Attack (Snare) vs. Fulcrum (Defense 18); includes +2 from Master Plan; DC 20 Ref save if it hits; HP re-roll (1d20+8=19) just manages to hit. Move Action: Fly inside via his armor's jets (not hanging around to see if the resin holds her). Slick Move Action (Partial): Arrive at scene, staying 40 feet from Fulcrum and Blackstar. Standard Action: Use Friction Control/Snare. It's a Perception Area effect, so Fulcrum & Blackstar both need to make Reflex saves (DC 18) for the area part, then another Reflex save (18, or 14 if you made the first DC 18 save) against the Snare itself. However, his Snare is Entangle only, it cannot layer on to Binder's resin!Snare. However, do remember any penalties to your Reflex save you have from a reduced Dex if Binder's Snare got you. Reflex save vs. Area part of Area Snare (1d20+7=15) fails, so his DC for the save on the Snare part is 18. Reflex save vs. Snare part of Area Snare (1d20+7=11) Also fails. Blackstar is Entangled (-2 penalty to attack rolls and Defense, and a -4 penalty to Dexterity [which means -2 on Initiative and Reflex saves]) Move Action (Partial): Skates in a wide (40-ft. radius) circle around Fulcrum. Why? Because he can! 20 -- Blackstar -- Unharmed, Entangled 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed (Entangled? Bound & Helpless?) -- 3 HP 17 -- Binder -- Unharmed 16 -- Slick -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cyclone -- Unharmed 4 -- Thunderbolt -- Bruised, Stunned 4 -- Radium -- Unharmed Move Action: Fly to Communications Center Free Action: Activate intercom systems. Free Action: HP to us Beginner's Luck to get 5r in Intimidate. Of course, he's been using his Enhanced Charisma all evening, so no need to switch. Standard Action: Proclamations of Doom! I.e, intimidate check to demoralize them. Intimidate check (1d20+13=27) Countering Dok's Intimidate; Binder, Blackstar, Cyclone, Radium, Slick, Thunderbolt (1d20+4=20, 1d20+5=23, 1d20+4=5, 1d20+5=10, 1d20+3=5, 1d20+5=12) They all soil themselves. Expecially Cyclone. The HQ's own Defense system takes a shot at Radium, with its own Snare. Attack (Snare) vs. Radium (Defense 16); DC 23 Ref save if it hits (1d20+14=18) Ref save vs. Snare (DC 23) (1d20+7=10) Radium is bound and helpless! I'm going to wait until I see how Fulcrum's doing so far before posting the actions for the others.
  5. Got a date for the date? Also, I'll probably be telling Rav some stuff for Robin to bring up. Foreshadowing of other things...
  6. Colt's reflexes indeed serve him well, and he takes no damage from the fall.
  7. That'd be part of the move, yes. Gimme an attack roll. (Why on Earth does a Cowboy have +20 on Acrobatics, and Skill Mastery on same?)
  8. Colts climbs up to a building across the street. It's another apartment complex, smaller than the one Grim and Jack were in -- only three stories, not four, and only one pair of side-by-side units, not three -- and seemed to be far older. It was also quieter; as he made his way up he saw it was mostly college kids, studying or listening to headphones, largely living in their own little worlds. If it were a college dorm, it would be the Nerd Dorm. Reaching the roof, he saw he had a much better view of the apartment across the street. In fact, from his vantage point here, he could easily look directly into the apartment Grim and Jack were headed towards, the Diablos Rojas safehouse. Suddenly, Colt's keen ears heard the pulling of a grenade pin, and thick smoke billowed out across the front half of the roof! A moment later, he heard a thud, as if someone had leaped off from some hidden spot to the ground below. "Que?" they both said, their looks and tone clearly indicating to Grim they knew more than they were pretending. "
  9. DC was 29. So you do not see anything on the roof, so he gets a surprise round (since he does see you). Standard Action: Use Smoke Pellet (Obscure 2, 10-ft.). Move Action: Leap off roof (30 foot fall). Acrobatics check to reduce damage from fall (1d20+9=18) reduces distance by (18-5) 13 feet, so it's treated as a fall of 17 feet. Damage form a fall is +1 per 10 feet, so that's... DC 17. Toughness save, DC 17 (1d20+8=19) Booyeah. You do hear the person land, though -- he's not that stealthy.
  10. Initiative for Mysterious NPC (1d20+7=12) Colt'll go first. But what does he see? Make a Notice check (or tell me if you're using his Skill Mastery).
  11. Also, if you cannot think of anything to do about the Gruevasion directly, you can always write a tale of saving random citizens, fighting random Grue beasties, or other "slice of life" stuff.
  12. Okay, a week's passed, no word from anyone else, so I'll take first crack. Dok has 4 HP (and is also fatigued). Let's see what he can do. He can try and stunt/use Gadgets for some sort of Teleport Others thing, and whisk everyone to safety. Or... Hypothesis: The Fake!Havok before them was a relay for the real Havok's controls, so components in it could be used by a certain Super-Genius to control the puppet-like HavokBots, and not only stop them from opening fire on the people but also save the woman who's about to fall to her doom. But, Havok may've blown up those specific components, so we can't use them to track the signals down and so track him down. On the other hand, Dok's clearly more intelligent (and good-looking) than Havok, so he can make a remote control for them with his own gear. Actually, there's probably not enough time to usurp control over them and get them to rescue the woman, but he can at least stop the 'Bots from opening fire on the others. He's fairly confident that between Phalanx's speed and Gossamer's hair, someone can rescue her. He barely knows Midnight, so he's not sure how he can help. How far are the civilians from us? And how high up are they?
  13. Free Actions to keep up Force Field and Combat Brain. Move Action: Reconfigure Gadget to mimic the bomb remotes on Malice's armor. (Not sure how much it'd take, if it needs to be statted or it's just 'plot device,' so I'll just go with all of it; yes, this means dropping the Obscure, so now Malice's viewscreens and targeting systems and so on all work now.) Standard Action: Deactivate all bombs? Or would that be a full round? Or more?
  14. Some edits for everyone's favorite zombie. First, he's PL 15 now! His saves are off, his Toughness should be Toughness +19 (Impervious 14 [not vs. blessed, magic or silver]) His Knockback, however, is correct. 3pp left to spend. 1pp for another rank in Protection, bringing his Toughness to Toughness +20 (Impervious 14 [not vs. blessed, magic or silver]) and Knockback to Knockback: -17, -10 vs. blessed, magic or silver 2pp on Feats: Dodge Focus. He's limber! Defense +10 (+4 flat-footed) Totals at the bottom will be Abilities 12 + Combat 28 + Saves 10 + Skills 14 (56 ranks) + Feats 17 + Powers 143 - Drawbacks 1 = 220/220pp Edits done by Geez3r
  15. Cyclone had seen the two heroes, and high-tailed it back to his teammates. Meanwhile, the vidscreen-window showed Thunderbolt approaching the main entrance. Before he crossed the threshold, panels above the door slid back and revealed concealed blasters, which opened fire on the intruder! The shots hit, but they just barely managed to stagger him! Radium looked back to Binder, who nodded to him. The red-suited man marched in, but he did not bring toys for good little girls and boys, he brought sickening radiation as some of the panels on his suit slid open, exposing all to his lethal energies! Mercifully, there were not many in the courtyard of entry hall, and he passed quickly enough they they were not exposed to instantly fatal amounts, but their suffering was clear in the pained expressions. Blackstar held back, standing by Binder's side. He raised his arms up, towards Cyclone, as if preparing to catch him... or be picked up by him.
  16. "Mein Gott," Archeville exclaimed as he joined Fulcrum at the window/viewer. "It is dem... de Finsteres Wissenschafts-Geschwader -- de Sinister Science Squad!" "Dey are a team of misanthropic geniuses," he explained as he began making adjustments to his Electromagnetic Screwdriver, "all from Central or Vestern Europe. All picked on, snubbed, ignored, or scorned, seeking to strike back at de society vhich 'rejected' dem. Dey haff tried to recruit me more dan vonce..." "De von in de armor, dere, in de back, is Binder, deir leader. Gifted German chemist, genius mit adhesives. Next to him is Schwarzstern, Blackstar, a Swiss physicist who can alter his density, und takes perverse joy in bullying ozhers after having been bullied for much of his life. Before dem are Munja, Thunderbolt, a brash Serbian who not only generates und controls electricity, his body is electricity, und Radium, a Frenchman whose containment suit holds back lethal radiation. Now, dere should be von ozher..." A silver blur zoomed past at supersonic speeds. Thanks to the observer's superhumanly fast minds, though, they could make out the source, a man in a very aerodynamic suit of armor, with airfoil "wings" on the back and streamlined weapon barrels along the arms. "Ah, Cyclone, de French jet engineer. De showoff!" he yelled out the window. "Since it it highly unlikely any of dem knew ve vould be here tonight, dey are likely here to steal research und components from de laboratories. Or, vorse, take hostages!"
  17. Mona's super-fast scan revealed many things. First off, none of these guy were known to her -- if they had followed them from Freedom City, they must be very, very new. Second, she realized the 'window' she was looking out of had two images, one superimposed on the other. This was no mere window, it was also a viewscreen, tied to cameras all over the castle! The window looked out on the rear of the castle, while the video feed showed the main gate at the front! At the main gate was a quartet of men, all in colorful costumes. In the back was a man in battlearmor, gold with green trim, with a golden gun. The gun was no a standard firearm, but was some manner of glue-gun, as the numerous gummed-up and bound guards had learned firsthand. His helmet's faceplate is divided in two vertically, giving it a vaguely insectile appearance. Next to him was a powerfully built man with slate-gray skin in a dark gray costume, with a black star on the chest and a matching star on his belt buckle. His gloves, boots, and belt are gold, but his mask matched the rest of his costume. He also wore a high-collared golden cape. Before them, their hands still sizzling with energy form the blasts they'd unleashed on the main door, were two others. One was in a featureless, skintight, red containment suit; sections of the gauntlets were open, allowing sickly green energy to escape. The other wore a charcoal-black bodysuit with red boots, belt, gloves, and a red M on his chest; lightning crackled at his hands and in his eyes. The armored one was clearly giving orders to the others, though the video feed did not come with matching audio, so she did not know what they were saying. Their intent was clear, though: breaking and entering, and they'd already got half of that done. A purple-blue streak raced by along the ground around the Castle, which stopped beneath Fulcrum's window just long enough for her to make out the silver swirl design on his chest... and a rather handsome Portuguese face, looking up at her, and winking! In a flash he was gone, and Fulcrum knew that only her own super-speed allowed her to see him in the first place.
  18. Something I should've mentioned earlier (though I don't think it'll affect you as much as it affects me): remember that this takes place in January 2010. Of course, I don't expect you to have a copy of Fulcrum's char sheet from that time (I certainly don't have one for Dok!), I would like you to treat Fulcrum as PL 11 (her PL at the time)... which is actually what she still is now, so you actually don't need to make any changes! I, on the other hand, will treat Dok as if he's PL 14 (as are his Castle's Defense Systems). More importantly, his Belt/Force Field doesn't have the Enhanced Fort save or Shield, or the Incorporeal AP, or the Shrinking AP... except I already displayed those when they met at ArcheTech... so I'll say he's wearing an older Belt, one that looks nicer . Also, he does not have his two Combat-centric APs on his Enhanced Mind; those he gets later (I even have a storyline planned for them!), so he'd have to stunt to get them. So, yeah, it does affect me a lot more than it does you, as it doesn't affect you at all! Also, the map for the castle I'm basing Schloss Wissenschaft on (as seen here!) has the dining hall near the back, so we normally couldn't see attackers at the front gate. But, thanks to Archevile's (and the Radius on All Vision it grants, via cameras all over the place and how each window can become a screen that shows the feed from any camera), we actually can see the front door while looking out a window that would normally show the back! Finally, the baddies have someone on their team with Master Plan! Master Plan check (1d20+8=22) So +2 on all rolls for the first 3 rounds, and +1 for round #4, once the plan starts. And with that out of the way... 22 -- Bl -- Unharmed 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed -- 1 HP 17 -- Bi -- Unharmed 16 -- Sl -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cy -- Unharmed 4 -- Th -- Unharmed 4 -- Ra -- Unharmed Bi continues keeping a wary eye out. Sl, running around the place, may be able to catch a glimpse of us as he runs 'round. Since you did not mention that she looked out the window with any discretion, I'll assume she's not using Stealth in doing so. Her size gives more of a penalty, though the distance from the ground floor does help some. I'll say it'll be a DC 12 Notice check for Slick to spot her peering out the window. Notice check for Sl (1d20+6=22) Yowza! He sees her, and dashes back to the others. Does he recognize her, though? Knowledge check (untrained) for Sl to see if he recognizes Fulcrum (1d20=10) No, not really! He just sees a giant in the Doktor's castle laboratory. Clearly it's a monster of his creation! 22 -- Bl -- Unharmed 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed -- 1 HP 17 -- Bi -- Unharmed 16 -- Sl -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cy -- Unharmed 4 -- Th -- Unharmed 4 -- Ra -- Unharmed Move action to zip over to the window. Free action to describe who all is down there. Standard action to reconfigure his Gadgets into a 'remote control' for his Castle's systems. 22 -- Blackstar -- Unharmed 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed -- 1 HP 17 -- Binder -- Unharmed 16 -- Slick -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cyclone -- Unharmed 4 -- Thunderbolt -- Unharmed 4 -- Radium -- Unharmed Cyclone was also doing aerial recon. Does he spot Fulcrum and Dok? Notice check, DC 12 for Fulcrum, 16 for Dok (she dwarfs him!). Notice check (1d20+3=16) He sees us both! He flies off (move action), towards the front of the castle, towards his teammates, radioing in as he goes. Thunderbolt runs towards the entrance, but is attacked by the Castle's automated defenses! Attack vs. Thunderbolt (Defense 14); DC 27 Toughness if it hits (1d20+14=19) Toughness save, DC 27 (1d20+12=21) Fails by 6, Bruised + Stunned. Radium strolls in, opening sections of his containment suit as he goes, flooding the area with deadly radiation. The few people down in the courtyard and entry hall fall. Begin Round 2 22 -- Blackstar -- Unharmed 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed -- 1 HP 17 -- Binder -- Unharmed 16 -- Slick -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cyclone -- Unharmed 4 -- Thunderbolt -- Unharmed 4 -- Radium -- Unharmed Blackstar... holds his action. Because Fastball Specials don't happen by themselves. You're up!
  19. Alright, so combat order is So the combat order is: 22 -- Bl -- Unharmed 18 -- Fulcrum -- Unharmed -- 1 HP 17 -- Bi -- Unharmed 16 -- Sl -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cy -- Unharmed 4 -- Th -- Unharmed 4 -- Ra -- Unharmed Yeah, go ahead and make a post, then I'll do GM-y stuff in the IC thread.
  20. And now... doom! Due to our positions -- we're on the second floor, they're on the first -- we have cover from the bad guys during the surprise round. Since they can't see us, we have concealment, too. Vice versa's also true, a least until one of us goes to the window. Initiatives for baddies Bi: 17 Bl: 22 Cy: 11 Ra: 4 Sl: 16 Th: 13 For the purposes of this thread, all six will be treated as proper villains, not minions. Bl and Bi take out the guards at the front door, Ra and Th spend the surprise round trying to blast in the front door, and Cy and Sl are flying/running around scouting the area. (Don't worry, they'll get full names soon ) The guards at the front gate are there for show, they're mooks, so I won't both rolling for them. They're KO'd. (Well, not quite, you'll see exactly what's happened to them later.) The front door is reinforced wood, toughness 5. Normally I would have the door take 10 on the toughness save, for a 15 total. However, Ra and Th are not only combining their attacks (so Th delays to initiative spot 4, same as Ra), they're using a full round to blast through, so the attacked object only gets to take 5, for a 10 total. Against their combined blast 13 (DC 28), that fails by 18, and is destroyed. The door explodes inward. Initiative for Dok (1d20+7=14) So the combat order is: 22 -- Bl -- Unharmed 17 -- Bi -- Unharmed 16 -- Sl -- Unharmed 14 -- Dok -- Unharmed -- 5 HPs 11 -- Cy -- Unharmed 4 -- Th -- Unharmed 4 -- Ra -- Unharmed Once I get an initiative from you, I'll start posting more IC.
  21. Archeville nodded at the offer of dumplings, taking a break from pontificating to savor some more beer. "Coffe, eh? Vell, for dat, I believe ve haff your own family's religion to dank for de vide spread of it. I believe it vas first used in Ethiopia, around de 15th century; writings attributing its discovery to a 9th-century goatherd are largely believed to be apocryphal. From Ethiopia, it vas introduced into de Arab vorld through Egypt und Yemen; by de 16th century, it had reached de rest of de Middle East, Persia, Turkey, und northern Africa. It den spread to-" An intense flash of light outside the window, accompanied by a thunderous BOOM, interrupted the Doktor. Lightning and thunder? The skies, while cloudy, were not the sort to carry rain, and lightning was rarely a sickly green color.
  22. Reminder: when you make a GM or NPC post, please put [GM] in the Subject Line.
  23. 1 May 2010 Success! Well, not fully, but I have hit another milestone in my development of treatments for certain chronic medical ailments... and I have Solo Takashi to thank for it! A little over a year ago, I and several other heroes were subjected to Doc Otaku's experimental Gender Ray, which turned men into woman and vice versa. After we tracked him down I was able to use the device and Otaku's notes to reverse the process, and though Otaku managed to escape, I was able to salvage the device and its schematics. The devices used a low-frequency biorestorative radiation to stimulate regeneration of the Y-chromosome (which is really just a broken X-chromosome), turning it into an X-chromosome (and thus a man into a woman); in a target that already had XX chromosomes, it altered one of them at random to emit chemical signals which caused the body's natural immune system to attack and dissolve part of it, turning it into a Y-chromosome (and thus a woman into a man). Of course, each and every cell of the target had to be hit by the transformative radiation, and it did take a few minutes for the anatomical changes to occur. However, I do not believe Otaku fully knew just how revolutionary this device was. With a bit of modification, I was able to use the device to inflict any sort of sex-linked chromosomal abnormality -- Klinefelter's syndrome (XXY), Turner syndrome (XO), double-Y male (XYY), and others, as well as reversing said conditions. (Attempts to use the device to create androgynes/hermaphrodites have thus far met with no success.) But this is just the tip of the genetic iceberg! If I can get it to work on the autosomes -- the non-sex-determining chromsomes -- I can use it to cure any trisomy (extra chromosome) or monosomy (missing/damaged chromosome) disease, such as Down syndrome (extra 21st chromosome), Edwards syndrome (extra 18th chromosomse), Patau syndrome (extra 13th chromosome), Wolf–Hirschhorn syndrome (deletion of part of the 4th chromosome), Williams syndrome (deletion of part of the 7th chromosome), Jacobsen syndrome (deletion of part of the 11th chromosome), and many others. It could even pave the way for an "eternal youth" treatment, by regenerating the telomeres at the end of each chromosome! It could not, on its own, be used to aid those suffering from ailments caused by chromosomal translocations, which includes many forms of leukemia, lymphoma, sarcoma, and other cancers... and some forms of schizophrenia. Unless I can figure out how to get it to delete the 'incorrect' sequences and then replace them with regenerated 'correct' sequences, a considerably trickier proposition. Note that draining Constitution not only decreases the Fortitude save (making it harder to resist further blasts), it also drains the Recovery Bonus (making it harder to recover from the damage). And, of course, draining Con to 0 kills the target.
  24. "Too little to talk in vords," Archeville snapped, with a noticeable 'that's not what I meant and you should damn well know that' tone, "but by dis age he should be making some vocalizations. Babbling of simple sounds, cooing, changing his pitch und tone depending on his emotional state... someding to indicate he is capable of speaking. Has he done none of dat yet?" The Doktor remove his finger form the baby's chin, inhaled and exhaled sharply, and looked up at the two. His tone now was a complete 180 from a moment ago, "I... I am sorry, dat vas qvite uncalled for. I haff had qvite a lot on mein mind of late, at mein company und mit de League, und it is causing qvite a bit more stress dan I had anticipated. I do not offer dat as an excuse, dough, for nutzing should excuse an outburst such as dat; again, I apologize. Und you are correct, fraulein Vhite, little Jack Junior should not be using true vords until after eight months of age." "Now, may I ask von of you to assist me in inspecting his teeth und throat?"
  25. ... if by "magical shield Device" you mean a Device with the Shield power, and "magic" is the descriptor, then sure ;)
