  1. On October 24th, 2007, Endless Flight (and Barnum) started the Freedom City Play-by-Post board. About three and a half months later, on February 8th, 2008, I joined the site. Six weeks later (March 20, 2008), I was elevated to Refhood, and about nine weeks after that (July 29th, 2008), following the shocking [redacted] of Barnum and a brutal [redacted] of Endless Flight, ownership & Admin-ship of the site was transferred to me. (Muah hah hah hah hah!) Some Numbers: Total Members (who have made at least 1 post): 206 Current Active Characters: 69 Current Active Refs: 7 Average Posts Per Day: 81 Average Topics/Threads Per Day: 4 I would like to think that, on balance, FC PbP has been a fun place for all involved. I fully intend to continue keeping this site chugging along for the foreseeable future; we've told a lot of good stories, and there are still many more left to tell. I have no changes in mind for the site, except in trying to keep a better eye on things, making sure characters and adventures fit the overall mood/theme/tone of the board (DCAU-esque -- Relevant, not Cynical, and overall Enjoyable). Some things have slipped through that ought not have, and the Refs are going to try and be better about that. We do still have plans for several Big Adventures, which we're still working on figuring out how to implement; some recent Big Things (Fisticuffs 2, the Grue Invasion, the "Explosion" at Claremont's Prom) are showing us how (and how not) to best do these. Thanks for being such great players, and making this such a fun place to run :)

  4. "Well, let's see how good an eye fer sizn' ya got," the Revoltin' Revenant said, chuckling. He had his shirt off before Erin had turned, and she averted her eyes just before he got his pants off. [bg=#000000]Dude, that's gross, I don't wanna see-[/bg] "Oh, get over yerself, kid. Ooooh-wee! Feel that night breeze!" he exclaimed. "Seriously, do ya feel one? There's no trees around, so I cain't tell." After several moments of colorful commentary and idle chatter, Erin finally heard him say what she'd been waiting to hear: "So, how do I look?" Turning to see him, she'd see he was in the Claremont outfit, boot, and gloves, and the mask propped up on the top of his head.
  5. The Revoltin' Revenant had indeed waited, though not idly. When Erin got back, she saw him in the middle of a conversation with... well, nothing, it appeared. "Well, d'ya got any idea where ta start lookin'?" [bg=#000000]If I knew that, would I still be here?![/bg] "Whoa, WHOA!" he said, holding his hands up defensively, "okay, ya got a fair point there, but gettin' riled up ain't gonna fix anythin'. Alright, so I'll talk to yer Ma-" [bg=#000000]She is not my mother![/bg] "Okay, okay, get in touch with... with tha woman what raised ya, see if she can contact tha orphanage. But I gotta warn ya, kid, ya might not like whatcha-" He turned just enough to face Erin. "Oh, ya came back," he said to Wander. "Thought you'd had enough'a me fer tha night."
  6. Archeville allowed himself a brief moment of pride in his medical skill at the patch-job he'd done on Jack of All Blades... ... before setting his mind to the imminent battle. "Alright, Taylor," the Doktor muttered, referring to Knievel by his original name, "let us see vhat I haff learned from our last encounter..."
  7. Ack! Sorry, I totally missed it was my turn! Free Action: Maintain Force Field Free Action: Maintain Obscure Full Round Action: Switch Tentacle Brain Array to "Combat Mode"
  8. Free Action: Use HP to nix fatigue. (4 left now) Free Action: Maintain Flight Free Acton: Maintain Cloaking Field Standard Action: Attack, attack, and attack some more! Same as before: Unless Havok can see through Dok's concealment, he's flat-footed, and Dok's Sneak Attack comes into play. Power Attacking -5 Attack/+5 Damage Damage is 4 (Mighty Strike) + 5 (Sneak Attack) + 5 (Power Attack) = 14, DC 29 Attack vs. Havok; Toughness DC 29 if it hits (1d20+15=35) Natural 20! Crit! So that's DC 34 Toughness. Move Action: Move around to attack from a different angle. Free Action: Extra Effort to SURGE Standard Action: More highly scientific ass-kicking! Attack vs. Havok; Toughness DC 29 if it hits (1d20+15=32) Another solid hit! Will be Fatigued at start of next round due to Extra Effort.
  9. Alright, let's get the save out of the way first... Reflex save, DC 22 vs. Area Missiles (1d20+6=18) but not unexpected Toughness save, DC 27 vs. Area Missiles (1d20+15=17) Fails by 10, which'd leave Dok staggered and stunned HP re-roll! (4 left now) Toughness save, DC 27 vs. Area Missiles; HP re-roll (1d20+15=18) Wow, IC hates me. But, due to it being an HP re-roll, that 18 is really a 28, leaving Dok unharmed!
  10. Archeville smirked, "I know enough about Claremont. Von of de perks of being on de Freedom League." "ArcheTech does offer scholarships for dose pursuing scientific und technical fields," the Doktor said as the pyramidal build came into view, "und I am sure you vould qualify for it. Also, I am vorking mit HIT to see if I can get my employees a discount on tuition; ASTRO Labs had been vorking on someding similar." He touched down on the ArcheTech helipad, "I see much potential in you, Herr Rift, und vish to encourage it, in as many vays as possible."
  11. The cloaked Archeville zipped over behind Havok and delivered a precise blow to one of his armor's power feeds, causing a painful feedback in his systems! But not painful or damaging enough, for the madman barely faltered in his nefarious task!
  12. Vince's already a Tier 2 NPC, meaning he can be used by anyone, but the creator (i.e., me) reserves the right to run/take over at any time. And, in his case, any Ref can also take him over.
  13. Idiom meaning "to gain one's first experiences." This term alludes to having teeth first emerge through a baby's gums, and has been used since the late 1600s.
  14. The strange one-eyed zombie's rictus grin drew wider, "yes... an' yes." The creature marched back outside, where the body still lay sprawled out. It shambled to a nearby tree and plucked a small glowing green orb from it -- its missing eyeball. The zombie popped it back in, as casually as one might put in a contact, then went back to the body. It looked over the body, poking it a few times, then looked back to Trevor. "Yup, he's dead. Which means I can work with'im." Trevor's limited medical knowledge agreed, the body was dead. "Hey!" it yelled at the body, which then sat upright. "My frined here's got some questions, an' yer gonna answer 'im, alright?" [bg=#000000]Yes.[/bg] The newly-animated corpse nodded, but continued looking straight ahead.
  15. "Whinin'? The hell?" Dead Head straightened up, but his tone remained as flat as ever. "I ain't complainin', I'm pointin' out a fundamental inequality in human society. If Lady Liberty or Siren pointed out that women tend ta get paid less than men, wouldja consider that whinin'? If Johnny Rocket said homosexuals get treated unfairly, wouldja call that whinin'?" Keep the tone even, she's freaked out enough as-is. "An why're you so hung up on the way I look? Ya think dressin' me up in one'a yer uniforms -- which, fer yer information, I would be happy ta take -- or stickin' a mask on me'll change how other see me? Will change what I am? Ya think if I dressed an' acted like a 9-ta-5 businessman, had a job an' bought property an' paid taxes an' attended a book club, that you'd be any less inclined to knock my block off an' set the rest'a me on fire? Shoot, you'd prob'bly be more inclined ta do so, seein' me as 'intrudin' onyer world' and not 'stayin' where my kind oughta stay.'"
  16. Dead Head took a few steps back, and put his hands up defensively. "I'll take that as a 'yes,' then." "An', yes," it continued, lowering its hands halfway, "they do take prisoners. If they were gonna turn yer friend into some sort'a undead, they'd likely need lengthy rituals an' such. Unless they's really pow'rful necromancers, but if they was that powerful, I'd'a sensed it," he said as he tapped one temple. "Other possibility is roundin' up folks for some big ritualistic sacrifice, which'd give us more time, since near as I can tell this group ain't been active long, an' so ain't got a chance t'gather up many folks. An' since I ain't heard'a them walkin' 'round with any new undead, I'm leaning t'wards thinkin' they's roundin' 'em up fer a big ritualistic sacrifice. Which still ain't good, granted, but it does mean we got a bit more time ta find 'em." "Uh, ya do realize that guy's still out there," he added with a nod towards the front door, "on yer friends lawn..."
  17. Archeville was about to check on Freedom Angel, and see what the Bee-Keeper had done to him and how to change him back, when Dark Star flew up and undid the villain's work. "Ah... good to see you back," the Doktor half-muttered to the Angel. Then he perked up, spun around and grasped Freedom Angel by the shoulders. "vhat vas it like? Do you feel any residual effects Dark Star may haff missed? Your mind vas affected -- vhat vas going through it?" He glanced over at Dark Star and Fleur, and tapped his comm. "Are you two okay? Vhat is de current situation?"
  18. Dead Head let out a long, loud sepulchral laugh. "Girlie, you got any idea who I hang around with? A vampire, a witch, a half-demon -- that'd be yer pal Hellion -- an' a red-skinned hulkin' alien what nearly got all'a us killed. An' even if any'a them had 'normal' clothes, I doubt any'a 'em'd fit me!" "An' as fer tha help ya get -- ya do realize tha differences 'tween us, right?" He sat up, spinning around so he kept facing her, "That yer a moderately attractive, healthy chick, an' I'm... not? Folks are a lot more willin' ta give you stuff than they would me; most'd sooner run from me than give me tha time'a day. Bet ya got guys lined up ta give you flowers an' junk..." "Ya may feel like an outcast..." It paused and cocked its head, "okay, well, ya are, technically, but ya can hide it, no one can tell jes' by lookin' atcha that ya don't belong here. I ain't got that luxury. An' while ya may technically be homeless, ya got Claremont -- ya got a roof over yer head, reliable access ta food an' showers an' AC an' all that good stuff." It cocked its head the other way, "Seems ta me ya should focus on what ya got, not what ya lost."
  19. The Revoltin' Revenant let out a rattling sigh, "you livin' folks, always hung up on appearances..." It remained on its back, looking up at her, "I dress the way I do 'cuz it's all I can find. I'm basically homeless an' destitute, but with less options for clothes than most hobos -- it ain't like I can jes' walk into a shelter an' ask fer some new threads. Can only get what I can from clothin' store dumpsters when they get somethin' they can't send back to tha manufacturer, or stuff not even the folks at Goodwill'd take." Dead Head began idly tapping his feet together, "As fer my voice, well, it weren't always this gravely thing, though I got some aunts an' uncles what're heavy smokers an' had somethin' similar. Heh heh... Guess it's jes' part of how I am now, same as how mah body always pieces itself back together, but never stops looking like a corpse what's been left in the sun fer a few weeks." Should I ask about her world? Hrrmmm....
  20. You really should have an approved PC first, before submitting NPCs. :)
  21. "Ohhh yeah. I think I saw him as my head was soarin' over th'arena after that speedster fella -- Dynamo, I think his name was" he said as he tunred back to face her, "tried jump-startin' me. Didn't realize Hellion was on another team, though. Hunh, guy really gets around. Thought there was some unspoken rule 'bout not bein' on more'n one team at a time...." The zombie spun around and laid back, arching back slightly to look at Wander (who now appeared to him to be be upside down). "So, whatcha wanna know next? I'm happy ta talk as long as yer willin' ta listen."
  22. Move Action: Draw Power Knuckles (Mighty Strike 4) Move Action: Move to Havok Free Action: Extra Effort to SURGE Standard Action: Highly scientific ass-kicking! Unless Havok can see through Dok's concealment, he's flat-footed, and Dok's Sneak Attack comes into play. Power Attacking -5 Attack/+5 Damage Damage is 4 (Mighty Strike) + 5 (Sneak Attack) + 5 (Power Attack) = 14, DC 29 (Sneak) Attack vs. Havok; DC 29 Toughness (1d20+15=16) HP to re-roll (down to 5 now) (Sneak) Attack vs. Havok; DC 29 Toughness; HP re-roll (1d20+15=18) Okay, that's a 28 to hit, but still... Will be Fatigued at start of next round due to Extra Effort.
  23. "Oh..." the zombie replied, seemingly saddened at the thought of not fighting Samedi alongside Wander. "Well, I s'pose that makes sense. Mebe after yer therapy progresses..." Should I tell her Samedi's "unholy army" would be an undead army? Maaaybe not jes' yet.... Dead Head turned to look at the gravemarkers she was looking at, his spine making loud popping noises as he did. "So who all's on Young Freedom? I ain't had much contact with many supers -- our paths rarely cross, less they's investigatin' a murder. An it's kinda hard fer me ta keep up with tha news, on account'a not havin'... well, anythin' but what's on my back. Heh, it's one reason I hope they never cancel newspapers -- gettin' those from tha trash's my main way'a keepin' up ta date on stuff!"
  24. "Wow-ee!," the zombie exclaimed. "This is a nice place! Yours? Friend'a yours? Or didja jes' happen by an' see all these folks knocked out?" "So, Midnight, hunh?," it asked, looking around the place. Wait, did it only have on glowing eye now? Yes, it did! "Guess yer one's them grim 'vengers'a the night, yeah? Like Raven?" Why did the zombie now only have on eye? Because the other was perched on a tree outside, looking at the corpse on the lawn.
  25. The estate was empty, and, oddly, showed no signs of anyone having entered. No ransacking, no cabinet shelves swept clear or drawers left hanging open. The only thing Trevor saw missing was the ornate marble ashtray which lay outside, next to the (apparently long-dead) thug it had bashed. There was no sign of a wounded Travis slumping back into the house, so that was good, in a way. But Trevor had not gone to the secret parts of the house yet, since there was an unusually chipper zombie tagging along.
