Protectron The mighty mechanoid received Emerald Spider's message as Bill evaded its last grapple attempt, moments before the White Rabbit's broadcast blared in its mind! "Warning," it announced in its flat yet forceful tone, "White Rabbit is sending more people to this area, with orders to 'help' Bill and Doormouse. 'Help' may manifest as attacks up on us." The multitasking mechanoid lunged for the Bill again, attempting to wrap its arms around the dazed man-lizard and squeeze him into submission. "I am working on tracking both Doormouse's location and the source of White Rabbit's transmission."

Yeesss!

Horrorshow "Oh, what's the worse that could happen?," Davyd responded. The young metamorph had changed (ahem) quite a bit over the past year, coming out of his quiet theatre techie shell to... well, still not an extrovert, no, but definitely more comfortable expressing himself. Being around friends, friends who understood what it was like to have the kinds of problems he'd find himself in, certainly helped loosen his tongue. (And maybe some of his roommate was rubbing off on him.) "It's not like Veronica is going to... kidnap us... and harvest our organs... as part of some black book Danger International project! Or that she has been replaced by an alien shapeshifter, and has taken us to this remote location in order to capture us and send doppelgangers back in our place! Why, the very idea of that is absurd!"

Horrorshow Davyd's smile grew a bit wider, "nah, we're not confined, really, though they do want us on our best behavior while we're off-campus. Don't do anything to make the school look bad, be careful when using any extranormal abilities, don't allow vampires to follow you back to the dor- hey!" He greeted Pan with a quick hug, "eh, summer was okay. Got a job at the Freedom Aquarium. Didn't get to see as many critters as I would've liked," he frowned a moment, casting his eyes down, then looked back up again and now had a mischievous grin, "but I did get to see a lot of people! What'd you get up to?" A flash of greenish-blue movement Davyd's eye, and he knelt down to get a better look. An alien, maybe? "Hello, friend! Are you a student here, too? My name's Davyd." When Ryder made his presence known, Davyd stood upright and offered a hand to shake, "hey!," then held both out, "looks heavy, you need any help?"

Artificer Heroditus had tried to stay by Danica's side, as a good squadmate should, but the lure of the mysteries around them pulled him like iron filings to a magnet. He dashed from column to column, giving them a close visual inspection before reaching out to gently touch the carvings. He traced a finger along some of the letters, wiping away dust in an attempt to get a better read on the messages, then reached into one of his many beltpouches and brought out a small brush, which let him do a more thorough cleaning. "<Fascinating,>" he muttered, though it was in his native Atlantean, so all Danica heard was a series of clicks. He turned to her, "definitely Atlantean, from before the Sinking. I think my people found something in this spire, and built the structure around it, to study and," he nodded towards one set of markings, "if I am interpreting that correctly, to contain it. Possibly a naturally-occurring dimensional fissure," he placed the brush back into his pocket, "which they tried to harness," then reached into another and brought out what looked like a fingernail-sized pebble, "or maybe just seal off to prevent anyone from stumbling into it. If there are more carvings inside, shielded from the elements, they may be in better shape, and able to provide more information." He held the pebble in one hand, between middle finger and thumb, up to his forehead, and concentrated a moment. The stone began to glow with a soft yellow light, and slowly circle around his head, about two feet from him.

Horrorshow "Oh, hey! Don't think I've seen you around!," a welcoming voice called out. "Is this your first time here? Need any help getting around?" Utsuwa did not see the speaker at first, but as the new voice continued addressing him, he realized the speaker was an unspeakably plain-looking student that was slowly approaching him from the other end of the hall. He looked to be about as tall as Utsuwa (though his poor posture might be concealing some height), with medium length shaggy hair somewhere between dark blond and light brown, dull gray eyes over a pleasant smile all set in a round face, and white skin that had not seen much sun during the summer months. His outfit practically blended into the surroundings: a simple shirt the same color as the walls, boots that matched the floor, and khaki pants that somehow slowly transitioned between the two colors. The figure extended an open hand, "hey, I'm Davyd. Ooh, nice ink! Have you had that long?" Utsuwa's tattoos reminded him of some of the business associates his Uncle Sasha had dealt with, though those meetings always seemed so tense.

Artificer "<Oh, thank Poseidon that worked!,>" the Atlantean muttered to himself as he dashed to his squadmate's side. "You were not harmed, were you?," he asked as he looked her over, remembering the basic first aid lessons from both his mother and the Claremont instructors. If she had become injured due to my negligence... "I, ah," he began once he realized she had asked him a question that didn't pertain to an imminent threat, "no, I am unfamiliar with that one. OctoBen has been introducing me to many Surfacer tee-vee shows and movies, but that is not one of them. On the other hand," he turned to face the ancient temple again, "my people had extensive experience with dimensional breaches, both natural and artificial. And many are the tales told to Atlantean children which feature some overly-curious child falling through some tear in space and time." He took a step towards the ruins, then swiveled to look back to Danica. "There may be some artifact inside that is tied to the portal which our companions stepped through. My presence," he stuck one thumb under the pouch-lined bandolier across his chest, filled with Atlantean widgets and gewgaws, "may have interfered with it, pulling you and I in. If we are lucky, we may find something within which can help us track anyone who came through the portal -- and get us all back home." He extended a hand to her, "shall we?"

Protectron The emerald green cape Protectron wore was no mere fashion accessory: it contains thousands of tiny high-capacity batteries -- based on studies of the strange robot’s own power source -- which can provide it with a few bursts of extra energy. Which is exactly what it needed now, as Bill's tail coiled tightly around it! "Observation," it announced, while straining against its opponent, "the citizens are not authentically happy, nor are they operating of their own free will. Therefore, they cannot be said to be giving anything to you or your associates." With a surge of energy through its mechanical muscles, Protectron shrugged off the lizard tail from around it, then quickly brought its arms back in to clinch Bill's tail! But the larcenous lizard proved too tough to be affected by the blow, and fast enough to slip his tail from its grasp!

Protectron gets a 24 on its Toughness save, which fails by 3, so that's an Injury. For the Grapple check, that'll be a... 31! That fails by 5, so Protectron is bound & helpless! I'll let that stand for the moment. Protectron's turn Starting Conditions: 4 HP, Injured (x1), Bound/Helpless (by Bill), will be Fatigued at start of round. Reaction: Spend HP to nix fatigue. 3 HP now. Move Action: Attempt to Escape. Protectron rolls a 30 on the grapple check. Hrm. Reaction: Spend HP to reroll. (2 HP now). Grapple check re-roll is... 45, much better. Standard Action: Attempt to punch Bill, and -- if successful -- follow up with an Improved Grab. Melee attack roll is 22. (Better than the 16 I got last round!) If that hits, Bill will need to make a DC 27 Toughness save. In addition, Protectron will start its own grapple (as a Reaction) against Bill, getting a 32 on the grapple check. End of Round: 2 HP, Injured (x1).

What I Did Over The Summer of 2020 Mom wasn't too happy with my grades last semester -- no Ds or Fs, thankfully, but more Cs than anything else -- so she decided I needed a summer job. (She'd wanted me to get one last year, but between the trips to the Virgin Islands and to space, that never happened.) I was fine with this, and looked forward to a bit of "normalcy." (Is that the right term? What is "normal" for a Claremont Student? For a Metamorph? For a Grue hybrid?) Unfortunately, my first idea -- working at the Hanover Zoo (so I could study more animal forms) -- was shot down, since it had been the site of so many attacks and they feared for my safety. Also, mom didn't want me going all the way to Hanover, she wanted me to get something in Riverside. Fortunately, there was a compromise: the Freedom Aquarium. Fish, crustaceans, cephalopods, sharks -- such variety! Of course, that didn't work out as I'd hoped. Oh, I got a job there, sure. Had a week of training, then six weeks of work. Six weeks of working as a gift shop retail associate! Something about my "aptitudes" being better suited to customer service than to anything else. It wasn't a total bummer, though. I did get to interact with a lot of different types of people, and most many some of them were pretty chill. I got to work on time management techniques (which I definitely needed), and de-escalation skills. And I got employee discount, so on my off hours I could see the exhibits and all the cool animals. I just couldn't get as close to them as I'd hoped.

Protectron fails the initial Reflex save (with an 18 ), but get a 21 on the follow-up and so is not Snareded!

Artificer "Just a little further in," Heroditus called out, "that beast should not be able to foll-" He'd turned back to make sure Danica had not tripped on some bit of rubble, and realized she had barely moved from her original spot at all! Foolish guppy!, he chided himself, you need to remember all your teammates strengths and weaknesses! Retrieving various components from his pouches as he dashed back outside, Heroditus quickly assembled a krýo blaster, which could unleash a bolt of freezing energies at a target. This will likely not be enough to seriously injure the beast, much less kill it, but hopefully it will suffice to- oh! Once outside, and able to see the full size of the beast, and the fury of its attack on Danica, he froze for half a moment. But duty quickly won out over fear, and he drew a bead on the terror-bird and began firing. "You will find no easy meals here, you great... winged... thing! Go hunt elsewhere!" Somehow, he could feel OctoBen facepalm at his attempts at trash talk.

Artificer's gonna shoot the demon bird thing (with a nonlethal Blast of cold), getting a 26 with his attack. Now it needs to make a DC 20 Toughness save.

Artificer Heroditus had been leaning back in his chair, trying various breathing exercises to slow the shaking of his hands. The exercise would be going a bit better if he could manage to stop grinning like a fool. “That was incredible! To think, these machines, these computers, not only helped to create those foteinous beings, but had also bound them!” He clasped his hands together and peered closer at the terminal he’d been working at, “we have somewhat similar devices in Atlantis, to help with calculations for certain technomagical formulae, and they are approximately as large as these,” he unclasped his hands and made a sweeping gesture to indicate the entire room, “but nothing so potent! Would you-” He had turned to address Leon, but stopped when he saw everyone heading out (and caught the last bit of Danica’s protestations). “Oh, ah,” he sprang to his feet and followed, “I take it we are done here?”

Protectron "Halt!," Protectron called out to the Doormouse, kicking its jets on to close the gap between them. But it was not enough, and by the time the golden guardian reached the Doormouse's door, it had already closed behind him. "Halt!," it repeated, pushing the door open, "you must cea-" But the door opened to an empty building, with no sign of Doormouse or of the loot that Bill the Lizard had been shoving through. Protectron quickly spun around and fly at Bill the Lizard, arms wide, "your criminal activities must cease."

Protectron 4 HP, Unharmed Per a discussion with RocketLord on Discord, P will use extra effort to SURGE, giving the 'bot enough actions to move to Doormouse's door, check it, move to Bill the Lizard, and attempt to grapple him. And for the attack roll, Protectron gets a 16. 4 HP, Unharmed, will be fatigued at start of next round.

Artificer Heroditus made a few click-pops noises, "I believe the portal flared out and brought us along with the others," he was shifting his gaze between the structure and Danica, "though it deposited us some distance away from them. And we are definitely in another dimension, not another location on Earth. Which is troubling, yes, but even more troubling is that it was not just Atlantean magics I saw in that portal, but-" Danica's words finally made their way through to Heroditus, and he followed her gaze and saw the beast above them. "Ah. Uhhhh...," he turned back to the ruins, "we can find shelter in there!" He moved towards them, looking back to make sure Danica was following.

That's more than Heroditus has, so he'll (try to) assist. Got a 20 total, with a 13 on the die roll.
