  1. I thought it was Benny v. Davyd & Aja v. Leroy?
  2. Horrorshow Davyd burst out laughing, "wait, you thought I was... no, but..." was about all he could manage to get out. Eventually he settled down, though a few giggles still escaped now and again. "No, no, no, I wasn't there actually looking to, uh... y'know. I was initially there to test myself, to see if I could pass myself off as an adult. It's more than just appearance, yeah? My original plan had been to get in, have a drink or two, look around, then go. No close contact, except with the bouncer and server. But then that pale lady-" He cocked his head, lowered his voice, "hey, you think she was a vampire, too? Uh," he shook his head, resumed his normal voice, "then she decided to play matchmaker, sent that girl over to my table, said we should chat." He shrugged, "so I had to improvise, act and talk the way someone like that young man would have. Though if she had, uh, invited me back to her place for a nightcap, I'd have come up with some excuse." He shook his head, "I'm not ready for that just yet."
  3. Horrorshow Davyd nodded and smiled, "I've no doubt you can handle whatever she could come up with." He didn't really know much about Ashley -- they weren't on the same squad, had few classes together -- but from what little he'd seen (especially under Benny's sparring sessions), he was certain she could handle herself. At her second comment, he nodded again, "love is love, and no one should have to hide who they are." A pause, "but if they're more comfortable hiding, feel safer doing so, well," he shrugged, "you've go to do what you think is best, yeah? And hope that, in time, the situation will change such that you can be your authentic self."
  4. Horrorshow Davyd watched as Ashley climbed, and gave her an impressed nod when she got up and settled in. "I would've been happy to come down," he shrugged, and resumed looking off at the garden. Okay, Davyd, you knew this was coming. Might as well just get it over with. "So," he said after a moment, still looking towards the garden, "are you... okay? I hope Summers wasn't too harsh on you. And, uh," now he turned to face her, "again, I'm sorry for ruining your... well, whatever that was." Another pause, "she seemed nice."
  5. Horrorshow It was atypically warm for this time of year, which might explain why Davyd was wearing blue shorts and a gold tee. Except "atypically warm for this time of year" meant it was in the low 50s, rather than mid-40s. On the other hand, teenage boys -- even those without metamorphic abilities -- often went around in shorts no matter what the weather was, so it wasn't too odd of a sight. (Something about their increasing testosterone levels making them run hot, Ashley had once read.) He was up in the large tree that stood between the two dormitories, perched on a limb and looking out towards the gardens. He felt Ashley approach before hearing or seeing her (so that's what tremorsense feels like), and was the first to speak out. "Hey, Ashley! Up here!" He sounded quite innocent, as if he had no idea what it was she had come to discuss with him.
  6. So I've got 18 points in Artificer's Magic Array that I could extra effort/stunt some kind of (Enhanced) Super-Sense off of. Maybe something like Dimensional Awareness (Descriptor Frequency: Uncommon {1}; Sense Type: Visual [Default: Accurate, Acute, Ranged, plus Analytical already from Goggles]; Enhancements: Counters Concealment {2}, Counters Illusion {2}, Counters Obscure {5}) [10pp] If I can keep that 23 I'd rolled on the Knowledge (Arcane) check, and Veronica aids him, that'll add +2, bringing it to 25! He'll be fatigued afterwards, but I'll keep that for now.
  7. Artificer "You Surfacers," the Atlantean said, shaking his head but also flashing a smile, "always ready to rush into things. Give Veronica and me a few moments to examine this," he brought out more components from his pouches and snapped them together, "so perhaps we can divine where -- or when -- it leads. It may well lead," he looked to Astrid, "to some lost city of gold. Or to the bottom of the sea, or the heart of an active volcano." He paused, looked at the area of the dimensional breach, "well, probably not that last one, the thermal variances would..." He shook his head, "the point, my friends, is that we all have our gifts, our strengths, and I request that we pause a moment to allow Veronica and me to use those gifts on this problem before us." He snapped the last few components together, then snapped his contraption to his goggles. It added an additional lens, one above and between the existing two, over the "third eye," and something like a three-pronged tuning fork at the lower outer edge of each of the original two lenses, curving back and up to reach to his ears. He took a step back looked towards the area, flicked one of the forks to set it vibrating, then a moment later flicked the other.
  8. Artificer Heroditus smiled at Muirne's reply, "not to worry, no harm was intended by your question, and none was inflicted. Any... discomfort I may have expressed is solely my own shame, at my unfamiliarity with Surfacer technology. Which is a good reminder for me to keep at it," he nodded, "so that I may one day help both my people and yours." When she mentioned her own abilities and studies, one eyebrow went up, "fascinating. I would like to know more, if you would be comfortable discussing such things," he looked over to her guide, "once Kameron is done showing you around, of course." When Dee spoke, he did a double-take at her, and she might have prepared herself for questions (or accusations) that her fame (and infamy) so often brought. "Oh, I do apologize, madame," he bowed slightly to her, "I did not see you there. Are you Muirne's parent or guardian? Or are you to be a new faculty member? Oh, ah, yes," he glanced back at his books, "yes, I do plan to do that, but I wanted to have some idea of what I would be getting into before I started taking anything apart." She quickly realized, both from his body language and the barest skimming of his surface thoughts, that he genuinely had no idea who she was.
  9. Artificer "Oh!" He withdrew his legs from under the chair and hopped up on his feet, standing at his full 6'4" height. He bowed slightly to Muirne, giving her a closer look at his sea green eyes, "welcome to Claremont Academy, Muirne." His voice was a bright tenor, "you are quite fortunate, for Kameron," he nodded to the young man, "is an excellent choice to show you around the campus. Have you been to the Gardens yet? They are quite spectacular." At her question, he smiled at first, then his expression shifted to one of worry, then back to a (weaker) smile. "Well," he began, slowly exhaling the word, "I am from Atlantis, which is under the ocean. And, as I am sure you might imagine, our technology developed along very different lines from those of the Surface cultures. So, I am here trying to learn about Surfacer technology. In this case," he gestured towards his pile or research material, "the land vehicle known as automobiles, and in particular their internal combustion engine." "And you?," he turned back to her, "is there anything in particular you would like to study while here?"
  10. Horrorshow Davyd began whistling the X-Files theme melody as he approached Baby, growing a second mouth at the front of his throat to perform the underlying arpeggios. (It wasn't a great performance, but it was better than most people could do with just one mouth.) Hrm, can't really get in with any subtlety. May as well have some fun! Once he got to the entry-beam, he stopped just before it, and turned to face the gathering crowd. He struck a heroic hands-on-hips, chin thrust forward pose. "I have to go now," he announced, in as hammy a tone as he could muster, "my planet needs me!" He then took a step back, and began his ascent into the ship.
  11. Could Horrorshow have a relation to them like what Clayface had with the BatFam (in ~2019)?
  12. Artificer In a sitting area near the grounds-side exit was another face Kam recognized. He sat on the floor in front of one of the plush chairs, and a magazine was propped up in the seat. On the floor around him were about a dozen books, and a cursory glance would show they were filled with an assortment of charts and technical diagrams, though at least one seemed to be an astrological chart. He'd look to the journal, flip through three or four different books, then repeat the process. He muttered to himself as he did, half in English, half in the bright, sharp clicks & pops of Atlantean. I will unlock your secrets, Car and Driver magazine! As Kam and Muirne passed by, he made an exceptionally loud click-pop, clearly an expression of frustration. He leaned back, falling flat to his back, stretching out his legs under the chair, and then noticed the others. "Ah, hello, Kameron. All is well with you, I trust?"
  13. Artificer Heroditus did a double-take at Leroy, opened his mouth and was about to ask something... What? Is he saying he expects to become some manner of Gigantes? How? Why? Is it something to do with Dio? Or the... the Phoros inside him? ... but soon closed it and shook his head. "I have many questions, Prince, but they must wait until later." He turned his attention back to Benny, "I agree with Àjàṣorò, we can focus on strikes for now, to limber ourselves, then proceed to grapples." He resumed his low & wide grappler's pose, then moved his arms in closer and raised them in front of his chest, fists up -- a pose Benny had seen in many a young boxer.
  14. Horrorshow Davyd shook Leon's hand with one of his and Tabitha's with the other, with a smile on his face, one perhaps wider than any human should have. "Good, good! Oh, and you're Callie, right?," he asked the third newcomer, offering a third hand from an arm that wasn't there a moment ago. "Always a pleasure to meet new folks!" He turned back to Lulu, "hey, I know you're the official-unofficial greeter and all, but since they're coming in near the end of the school year, and I came in near the end of the school year last year, I thought I could offer them some advice, yeah? I mean, they'll be facing a few unique challenges, trying to get caught up on everything."
  15. Horrorshow It was about six miles from Chester's Club to the Claremont Academy, as the crow flies, but as the werewolf runs -- factoring in traffic and getting around the bridges spanning the South River -- it was a bit further. Had Davyd been thinking more clearly, he might have taken on a winged form, but he was not thinking very clearly. He was in full-bore panic, running both from the monster he'd seen and the monstrous assault he'd made. I've never attacked someone that viciously! I either killed him... or I've made him really pissed off! In fact, at first he was headed more east, towards Riverside, and his parent's apartment. Home. Home was safe. Home was warm. Home had loved ones. Loved ones who'd be torn to ribbons by an angry vampire! So he veered south, towards Bayview, and the Academy. Headmistress Summers will know what to do. She's got to. She'll know. She will. And then there was Ashley, and her... associate? Partner? He knew it was against school policy for them to be out like this, no less in a bar! He might get expelled, or detention. And so might Ashley! And she hadn't done anything (really)! But right now the thought of facing Headmistress Summers was slightly less terrifying than the monster out there. Almost there... almost there... one more block...
  16. Protectron “Increase in metahuman activity in Emerald City drew me here,” Protectron replied to Salvo, “in hopes that emerging metahumans can be guided/persuaded/steered towards heroic roles, or at least away from villainous ones.” Protectron’s head rotated 180 degrees when Visionary entered. “Hello,” the gold and chrome robot replied to the newcomer. “Are you here to join in superheroic activities? To aid organics, and Homo superior?” Protectron was silent during the discussion, until it wasn’t. “I can serve as a hub for electronic communications; my systems can encrypt incoming and outgoing transmissions. As for acquisition of Ultio Suit, persuading someone who has already purchased one seems most efficient. May have secondary benefit of leading to recruitment. Purchasing an Ultio Suit can be the backup plan. Perhaps one of you could do so, in your non-costumed identity? MARS would investigate the buyer's background, so an alternate identity, or “false paper trail,” would need to be crafted -- do any of you have experience with that? If purchasing funds are an issue, I may be able to assist with that, as my most recent update includes an internalized molecular forge.”
  17. Horrorshow Davyd noticed Tarva's entrance (wowza!), and her smooch with the azure apparition (aww), and Mia's sudden departure (should I?... nah, I'm sure she'll be fine), but he was much more interested in the shaddow doggos (shadoggos?). He knelt down to ruffle one as Indira & Erick described their encounter with the Meta-Grue. "Victim?," he looked up to her, still scritching the shadow dog behind the ears, "hrm, yeah, I can sorta see that, from what I've heard about... them." He still didn't feel right thinking of himself as part of the Grue, but on a deeper level it felt wrong to not be considered part of them, too. His gaze had gone back to the dog, but he looked up to both of them, "have you had any encounters with him since then? Or with any other Grue?"
  18. Horrorshow She's been a spy? Hunh, I wonder how she got into that. I wonder how I could get into that? Davyd chuckled at Benny's question. "Mister Erik said I'm to use my own muscles, so I'm guessing he means I am to stay in this form. Which I will try to do," he gave a small shrug, "though I'm sure you might prefer dancing with someone who looks more... feminine." He curtsied before the bouncing boxer, then offered his hand, "maybe they'll let me change a bit later. As for leading, I get the feeling you'd be more comfortable doing so, so let's go with that. For now, anyway."
  19. Artificer "WHAT?! DID ANYONE SEE WHERE HE WENT?," he called out, still with Astrid's headphones on blaring music at him. "BE-- OCTOMAN! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" He quickly surveyed the scenes, saw Fear-Master was out cold and his squadmates seemed unharmed. "IS EVERYONE ALRIGHT? IS-" a hand went up to his ears, "AH, YES. ONE MOMENT, PLEASE." He removed the headphones and let them dangle around his neck, "is everyone alright? Do you know who that great beast was, or," he gestured to the unconscious Fear-Master, "who he is? I do believe he is the one who set up that device," he pointed to the smashed remains, "some manner of akoustik device that instilled fear in all who heard it."
  20. Artificer's Notice check: 9. And now he's got 1 HP. And is still fatigued, but undamaged.
  21. Artificer When Heroditus noticed the ambient mystical energies, he lowered his goggles over his eyes so he could get a better look. "Oh. Oh, yes, I see," he nodded at Veronica. "There appears," he took a few steps to the left, then the right, trying to look at it from various angles, "to be some sort of dimensional gateway. Wait, no, not gateway," he shook his head, "that would imply intentional creation, whereas this appears to be a natural phenomenon. Or maybe it was artificially generated, but has degraded over the millennia. It is a dimensional... fissure, or tear. Ben," he looked over to his squadmate, "be careful, please, I cannot quite make out where the edge of this is -- it would not do to have you fall in, as Doctors Schneider and Warren must have." He began rummaging through the pouches on his bandolier and belt, "I have been studying such fissures for some time -- there are several in what you call the Bermuda Triangle, and several Atlantean outposts were studying them -- and I may have something that can tell us more about it."
  22. Horrorshow "Hrm, plaza means people-watching," he clapped his hands sharply. "I'm in!" Hey, Lulu -- stay alert, yeah? I've got a feeling there's some stuff about this place that Leroy isn't cluing us in on, though whether it's to put up a nice face or because he himself doesn't know, I can't decide. He glanced at Dio, back to Spethia & Gideon, then back to Dio. "Ah, sure, I think a ride'll be nice. Why fly when you can be flown, yeah?" And maybe I don't want them knowing just how much of a shapeshifter I am. He hopped onto Dio's back -- with a bit more grace than Leroy but considerably less force -- and settled down behind the prince. "Onward!"
  23. Knowledge (Arcane) check to see what Heroditus can figure out about what he sees 1d20+10: 23 [1d20=13] Not bad, not bad
  24. Horrorshow Davyd had resumed his one-faced, two-armed form before they'd left the Devotion, and had been mostly quiet while they walked about. He 'oohed' and 'aahed' at the sights, like everyone else, and was passingly curious about the great feats of engineering that went into making this. But he was more focused on the panoply of species that walked and talked and shopped all around them. He felt an urge to mimic some of them, but -- not knowing how such a sight might be interpreted -- fought it and remained in his human form. Eira's flight elicited a laugh and applause from him. What else has she got in there?, he wondered. Then she was back down with them, conversing with a vendor, and showing off some large beans. "Stories? Ooh, do you have a preference for which kind? I'm sure we can come up with some great ones," he looked to Lulu and Mia, "right?" And even provide special effects...
  25. Horrorshow While Pan's keen hearing got him up quickly, and Adam's habits had him not sleep easily in the first place, Davyd was another matter entirely. He was deeply asleep, dead to the world, with only the snores rippling through his gelatinous flesh giving any indication that he was still among the living. Pan's initial attempts to wake his cabinmate yielded no result, and the conversation between Pan & Adam drew out a muffled grunt from the young Grueling. Eventually the commotion from his classmates forced one eye open, then another. And then another, and another, and another. "Hunh? What's going on?" He rose from his bed, shook himself awake (and back to his human form), and made his way to the deck. "Morning already?," he asked with a yawn.
