"Vellllll..." he began as he place Avenger's samples into an boxy machine, "normally it vould take me just a couple of hours to run all de tests I anticipate needing to run... but if even separated parts of you exhibit de same 'cloaking' field you do, den most of mein eqvipment vill not work on it, und I vill have to come up mit entirely new vays of testing it, as I had to do mit de skin samples you gave me back in April." "However, de samples I get from Taylor und her fetus," he continued, holding up his device (which looked like a wide wrestler's belt, covered in circuitry and glass vials), "should not present any troubles to mein scanners, und a full work-up can be shown in an hour or so. At least, presuming dat de fetus does not share his father's cloaking field." Archeville held the 'belt' up, turning it so Taylor & Jack could see all side of it; the inside seemed lined with circuitry and glass lenses. "It is based off mein own gravimetric belt, but instea dof creating a vormhole to teleport de vearer to someplace else, it vill teleport minute parts of the vearer into de glass vials on de belt. De controls on de belt determine exactly vhich bits get teleported out. I put in some hardvired block so de targting beams vill not go in too far; it vill just take blood samples from Taylor und de fetus, und samples of de amniotic fluid."

"Oh, de targeting scanner's connected to de molecular imaging scanner... de molecular imaging scanner's connected to de Heisenberg compensator... de Heisenberg compensator's connected to de..." Archeville continued working, waiting for the two to return.

Science! Free action to activate Force Field. Free action pump Power Reserve into Flight, giving him Flight 7 (1,000 mph / 10,000 feet per round) Standard action to reconfigure Gadgets into something that will negate Liberty's photonic flight power Move action to fly 2,505 feet, and be in front of Lady Liberty. Extra Effort to SURGE! and gain another Standard action. (And use an HP to nix the fatigue) Attack roll vs. "Lady Liberty" (1d20+8=16) probably misses, so HP to re-roll (down to one HP now) Attack roll vs. "Lady Liberty"; HP re-roll (1d20+8=21) 21 hits? If so, Nullify check vs. her Flight check or a Will save. Nullify check is... Nullify Flight check (1d20+5=15) .... I would use my last HP to re-roll that, but I can't. So let's hope she rolls low. Though if she doesn't, that works, too, since her powers are semi-magical. ;)

Archeville was suddenly enveloped in the blue-grey light of his force field, and took off like a rocket towards Lady Liberty. As he streaked after her, he manipulated the controls on his wondrous Electromagnetic Screwdriver, and one end began to emit an eerie dark red light. "Guten tag, Dame freiheit!," he shouted as he approached her. "I am afraid to say dat dese actions are going to get you..." Archeville jammed the glowing end of his E.S. into the small of Lady Liberty's back, and the dark red light crept from the device to encompass her. Theoretically, the energy field would cancel her photonic manipulation abilities in such a way that her flight would simply turn off (and remain off, for as long as he maintained the field), but leave her superhuman toughness intact so the fall from so high up should not do her any serious injury. "... grounded!"

Spent one HP so far, got two left. Keeping Gadgets at: Extra Effort (an and HP to nix the fatigue; down to 1 HP now) to Increase Power, so that's a Drain 9 effect. A 27 should hit.
-
"Hold her!," Archeville shouted to Dark Star as he trained his E.S. on the Frankenfemme and unleashed more laser pulses at the stitches on her major joints. "Ace?," he called out, "still with us? Stesha, vas anyvon else injured?"
-
Archeville smiled weakly at Atlas, then began to pace back and forth. "vell, you said you first changed vhen some Mafiya thugs began beating on und shooting you," he started, seeming to choose pursuing a scientific conundrum over any real social interactions. "Adrenaline is often a catalyst to de manifestation of metahuman abilities -- dis is von reason so many metahumans manifest deir powers in deir teen years -- und your system vould haff certainly been flooded mit it den." "Is dere anyvon else in your family who has exhibited metahuman powers?"

Wherein it is revealed that Doktor Archeville has been receiving psychological therapy from Scarab for the past few months. And Archeville asks Scarab some unexpected questions.

Date: February 11th, 2010 Clear, high 37, WNW winds at ~20 mph (wind chill 27). Six inches of snow fell the night before; total snowfall to date for the year is 50+ inches, a record. Even though it had been almost five months since the Knights of Freedom disbanded, at least two of its members still met semi-regularly. But they did not meet to make grand plans about how to fight the forces of evil, or how to change the world. At least, not exactly.... An ankh-shaped door of golden light appeared in the medical facility of the Scarab's Lair, out of which stepped Doktor Viktor Archeville. Once he was through, the portal closed, and he pocketed the coin-sized teleport beacon Scarab had entrusted him with. He was a bit surprised to find it empty, though not completely surprised -- he was nearly an hour late, after all. "Elena? Hello?!," he called out. "sorry I am so late -- I vas helping restore power to parts of de city, und reinforcing de systems dat had not fallen to make sure dey do not fail."

Restored 'Metropolis' to stream live

Bad news, everyone: according to the B:tBatB Facebook page, "New episodes previously announced for February have been postponed indefinitely, including this week. We'll keep you updated when Cartoon Network announces the new schedule." Doubly sad: this week's ep would've featured the Batman of planet Zur En Arrh, who would be voiced by Kevin Conroy. There's also to be a "Batman hunts down the man who murdered his parents" ep, with The Stranger Phantom (Kevin Conroy) & The Specter (Mark Hammil), and Adam West & Julie Newmar as Thomas & Martha Wayne.

13 December 2009 I have combed through thousands of books and magazine articles, and hundreds of hours of films and television, regarding vampires, and have assembled a hypothesis on their function. Later I shall assemble schematics for anti-vampire weaponry. Said weapons will be designed on the presumption that my hypotheses are correct; without further study and testing their true efficacy will be unknown. Avenger may be able to control his hunger -- and I am not entirely certain on that -- but the fact the other Knights knew of and yet kept quiet about the existence of vampires in Freedom still grates on me. We cannot stop all crime, not all at once, and we cannot punch out all the bad guys everywhere... but a vampire infestation? If rumor is to be believed, Foreshadow took out a nightclub's worth of vampires a few years ago; surely the Knights (if not the Freedom League!) could take out all the vampires in the city?! Put down the feral ones like any rabid animal, at least; those who show restraint, who are "tame," can be offered counseling and medical assistance, as the Albright Institute would do to any metahuman. I need more subjects!

"I haff a particle vave ray gun und bipolar disorder! I haff no idea vhat it might do to you if I pull de trigger!"

"Selective intangibility vould probably not suffice: if you vere to turn your hand intangible, blood vould not suddenly gush out of your wrist, vould it? Dere is typically a sort of... 'translocalized interference barrier' dat prevents such from occurring." "It vill take me a bit to put together a teleport system dat is sufficient for de task," he continued, going back to one of the workstations and pulling components out of drawers and cabinets, "but vhile I am vorking on dat, Jack, dere is someding you can do for me in order to help in mein caregiving. I vill be needing samples from you. Und since you haff already told me you haff no blood of your own, und ve are discussing your child," he said as he tossed a small sealable plastic cup to Jack, "you can guess vhat sort of samples I am referring to. Dere is a restroom down de hall on de left." Archeville glanced up again at Jack, then to Taylor, then to Jack, then to the components he was assembling, then to Taylor again. "Oh, er, dis vill take soem time, so if you vished to go mit him...."

Dead Head returned Phantom's nod, then shambled carefully towards the massive twisted shadow. As he approached, he let out a high-pitched staccato whistle. "Heeeere poochy poochy poochy. Who's a big fella? Who's a big fella? You is! Yes you is! You just wants to gobble us up, don't yous! Yes you does!"

Sure! EDIT: Now that I've thought on it more, I think a Disarm check, not grapple, might be more appropriate. But I'll give you the bonus that your elasticity/prehensile hair gives on grapple checks to the disarm check. So the 15 you rolled, +10 (Gossamer's melee attack) = 25, enough to hit. So now it's opposed Str checks (remember that her Super-Str does add to this check). Power Corps member has a 18

No. Her Hair-Snare has the Engulf extra, so she has to be in melee range to use it. And when using that Snare, she 'loses' her Prehensile Hair power (since they're APs of one another), so she loses the 100 foot range of her Prehensile Hair. However, you could just reach out and grapple him.

Doc want in! (Actually, no, he'd hate going to a quasi-medieval world where sorcery reigns... which is why I want him in it!)

"'Ambassador of the Hereafter?'," the zombie repeated. "I thought that was my shtick!" Dead Head had been shifting back and forth and side-to-side on his feet while the others talked and an answer to his question was eventually (if somewhat obtusely) given. "Well, can't say I'm exactly thrilled with yer answer... but, if'n she vouches for ya," he said, nodding to Phantom, "then I guess yer okay." He extended his right hand to the angel, "Welcome to Freedom City!" (Yes, DH's hand will detach if Freedom Angel shakes it.)

Nifty, though I would point out that Doc's Will save is +15 only when he has his Enhanced Wisdom up; without it, his Will is +8.

Take a position as a research chemist at ASTRO Labs (or ArcheTech)? Easier to make a Peter Parker-esque jaunt off that than from teaching, I'd think.

15 September 2009 I learned three things tonight while meeting with the Knights of Freedom (who are now defunct): that Jack Faretti is a vampire, that there are additional vampires in Freedom City, and that other members of the Knights (Ace, Phantom, and Scarab) knew this for some time. I am not sure which bothers me more: that there are such monsters lurking in this city, or that half the Knights knew yet did nothing. Given how the group initially formed – after fighting a demon and its cultists – I would think they would be particularly interested in combating so-called "supernatural" menaces. Perhaps I shall revisit my own studies of the "supernatural," and develop some "anti-vampire" weaponry. (And anti-werewolf, anti-ghost, anti-demon, anti-warlock, and so on.) Any insufficiently understood phenomenon is indistinguishable from magic, so surely my fantastic mind can cut through the legends and folklore, find the root similarities, and develop countermeasures for them. 18 September 2009 Leaving tomorrow for Oktoberfest. Must remember to double-0chek all the security measures, and notify a few locals of my absence. Not that it is exactly a secret that I do this every year, but still... 5 October 2009 Ah, back from Oktoberfest -- I am recharged! And while away, an idea has formed: my own superhero team, on that is more proactive than reactive, intercepting troubles before they grow too large. I have the know-how, and once ArcheTech is up and running in a few weeks I will have the resources (though I will have to find some ways to hide them, so they are not immediately traced back to me). And there is certainly no shortage of candidates... but who to choose? I would want at least one person with whom I have worked before, one of the Knights. This is an idea that shall require much thought. 8 December 2009 Well, well, well -- looks like Jack and Taylor are getting married! I guess there really is something there. I wish to give them a gift… but what? What could they need? Ah, of course! As "domesticated" As Jack may be, he is likely still feeding on human blood. Specifically, Taylor’s. But surely that must be a drain on her. Developing a synthetic blood substitute for him would be no challenge at all... but developing a small machine for them that could synthesize it, now, would be a challenge! Perhaps some sort of bio-elemental converter, using tap water and dust particles (mostly made from the shed skin cells of Jack and Taylor, and any guests) as the raw fuel for the process. In fact, why not build in a regular vacuum as well?! It will help ward of Jack’s hunger and keep the house tidy!
