With MBCE gone, this is again without a Ref. Do we want to continue under a new Ref? Sand, didn't you once say you'd wanted to do a sword & sorcery-ish thing?
-
Anything more for this?

"Sounds like that's another good reason for us to stick together, then," Dead Head said after a moment, "t'keep an eye on each other, an' make sure we don't slip to our monstrous ways, or that others don't push us down that way." "Ah mean... just look at us. Ah mean, really look at us." Dead Head turned to Hellion, "ya just said you caused all that mess, and who's to say it cain't happen again? Not sayin' you would let it happen, just that it could. And you," he tuned to Avenger, "yer some kind of super-vampire. I hear lots o' the Leeches look up to ya, or at least respect ya. Well, fear might be a better word. And we know you ain't got that Hunger licked, there's always that Beast in ya cravin' warm blood. Heck, what ya did during the Invasion may've even made it stronger." "Then there's Hoss over here," he said as he twisted to face Atlas. "We all seen what you can do, and if'n you ever lose it, well, I don't even wanna think about how we'd try t'calm you down. And you, ma'am," he said, twisting again to face Phantom, "you got all sorts of magic I ain't even gonna try to describe, and we've all heard that 'power corrupts' and 'those who fight monsters should take care that they never become one, fer when you stand an' look long into the abyss, the abyss also looks into you' things." "And then, of course, there's me," he said as he untwisted his body back into a normal form. "Fortunately, unlike most undead, I don't have any sort of Hunger, not for brains or flesh or anythin' like that, though eatin' meat does let my body repair itself faster. What I do got it a voodoo god, a megalomaniacal arch-lich, and who knows how many cultists looking t'turn me into Generalissimo Undeado of some New Undead World Order, not t'mention all the spirits I hear every day callin' out fer bloody revenge on whatever wrongs they felt were visited upon 'em in life, an' wantin' me t'be their instrument o' revenge."

"A team, hunh?" Dead Head said, tilting his head left and right as if it were a set of scales weighing something. "Gotta admit, when I trudged my way up here, that's about the last thing I ever expected to be asked. As long as we're bein' up front an' honest, though, I've gotta say that th' only folks I've ever worked with fer any extended time were the spirits o' the dead, and then it was just 'til I helped solve whatever problems was plaguin' 'em... but even then, it was still me doin' all the work. What ah'm tryin' t' say is, I ain't used t'havin' someone else there with me, there fer me. This... this'll all be very new t'me." "Oh," he tuned to Hellion, "what was that she said about you almost destroying th' world? I wasn't in the best of shapes, mentally or physically, during th' big demonic invasion -- did I miss the memo explaining yer involvement?" Dead Head's voice remained flat and even, and his face had gone slack. It looked like he was going to give everyone a chance to explain things -- things he was sure they'd already explained to others, possibly many, many times by now -- but he'd been out of the loop on it all. During the Demonic Invasion, he'd been constantly assaulted by the screams and wails of all those who'd been killed, and could barely hear anything, even if that one demon hadn't picked him up and crushed him into a tight ball and threw him down the block.

The green flames in Dead Head's eyes flared brighter, due both to his own growing fury and the interaction between him and the wards, particularly the ward around the cultist he was going after. "You vile dogs! I would threaten to chop you up and feed you to that thing, but you'd probably enjoy that! So instead... " CLANG rang his shovel against the cultist's head. Okay, lots of cultists and zombies, and that big thing. Those tatters at its base -- could it have been one of their own, twisted into this hideous form? Are they till trying to control it? Whatever it is, it can't be let out.

Will save (1d20:6+6=12) No! Must... resist... Will save; HP re-roll (1d20:10+6=16 Hero Point) But the HP re-roll means that 10 is a 20, so 26 total!
-
Invisible Castle's down again But D.I.C.E. is still up! Initiative (1d20:19+2=21) Dead Head's leaning towards charging in and socking a cultist in the jaw.

Someone else had once asked if they could make a char who had 4th wall knowledge. (I don't remember who it was; I think it was Warmonger.) I said no then, and I'm still leaning that way now. In part b/c we don't have the things he'd need to interact with (like speech bubbles or comic art panels), and in part b/c that sort of character should be beyond-playably-insane/regarded as severely insane by everyone else.

I'm heading out of town for my sister's college graduation. Should be back on Sat night.

This is one reason why where those lines get drawn is the Topique du Jour in the Ref Cave. I agree and disagree at the same time on this. Some descriptors are (or should be) broader than others. "Magic" is broader than "Divine Magic," which would be broader than "Hindu-themed Divine Magic". "Electromagnetic energy manipulation" would be broader than "light manipulation." And even within a relatively narrow field, like "necromancy" or "magnetic manipulation," there can be considerable wiggle room, as decades of comics and other fictions (books, tv, movies, and other RPGs inspired by same) have shown us. Which touches on an earlier discussions held re: the broadness of descriptors, a discussion which should might should be brought back up.

My concern on super-senses isn't just the potential mechanical abuse, but also making sure the fluff works, too. To use this particular set-up's example: why would switching to x-ray vision make him suddenly unable to hear as far or as wide-spectrum-ly? I can understand losing other vision-based things -- he's cycling through optical modes, like the Predator in Predator 2 -- but the hearing/vision thing makes me scratch my head.

Those might not be valid, if I understand Cyroa's plans correctly.

*pokes head in* You are correct, teleporter is in the basement. Which is where all the personnel/staff should've been herded to in the first place.

*pokes head in, sees his chars are indisposed*

6 tasty pp for Dead Head. I'll just spend 2 for now. First, please edit to reflect he is PL 12 now. (It says so in the thread title, but the sheet itself still lists him as PL 11.) 1pp to add magic awareness to his existing super-senses, bringing it to: Super-Senses 4 (darkvision, magic awareness, mental awareness; Drawback: Darkvision is Noticeable) [4x1 -1 = 3pp] 1pp to add acute & analytical for that magic awareness, but only for necromantic effects: Enhanced Super-Senses s (acute and analytical for magic awareness; Flaw: Only for Necromantic magic) [2x0.5 = 1pp] Explanation: Dead Head is generally aware of active magic around him, but if the magic is of the necromantic sort -- the sort that's animating him -- he can tell exactly what it is. *pokes head in* Three DC 30 toughness saves = three DC 30 Toughness saves (1d20+17=20, 1d20+17=27, 1d20+17=33) 2 failures = 6 wounds 1 success = 1 wound 7 wounds total. Toughness is now +10 To eat demon brains, or not to eat demon brains....

"Vell, in dat case," the doktor said, "let me get started!" Dr. Archeville leaped to the stage, and began searching through the karaoke's options. In a few seconds he'd selected one, and started it up: Mambo #5, by Lou Vega. Or so it seemed. "Damen und Herren, dis is Cell #5. I have a story to tell It's about all the organelles in a cell The little bitty organs that make it run So that we can still learn and have some fun Look at your hands and arms while I sing They're made up of cells as are all living things The cell is the basic unit of life And if you understand that it will be alright Cells are small can't be seen with your eyes But if you use a microscope you'll get a surprise Inside a cell there's a whole lotta things These are organelles of which I sing A little bit of nucleus controls it all And if it's a plant cell it has a cell wall A little cell membrane for in and out Cilia and flagella to move about A little bit of ribosomes to synthesize The proteins that travel on an ER ride A little bit of Golgi to package them All of these organelles are in your cells" Archeville danced a bit during the instrumental interlude. "Inside the nucleus is DNA Tangled up as chromatin but that's okay Cells have mitochondria for energy Stored in the form of ATP Vacuoles to store more stuff And thought there's more I think that's enough. A little bit of nucleus controls it all And if it's a plant cell it has a cell wall A little cell membrane for in and out Cilia and flagella to move about A little bit of ribosomes to synthesize The proteins that travel on an ER ride A little bit of Golgi to package them All of these organelles are in your cells" More dancing during a second instrumental interlude, including giving a quick twirl to Grimalkin and Phantom. "A little bit of nucleus controls it all And if it's a plant cell it has a cell wall A little cell membrane for in and out Cilia and flagella to move about A little bit of ribosomes to synthesize The proteins that travel on an ER ride A little bit of Golgi to package them All of these organelles are in your cells"* At the end, he gave a slight bow, then handed the mike over to Grim. * lyrcis © 2003 Annette M. The door to the mausoleum Avenger had been standing ominously over slowly opened with a loud CREEEEAK. An eerie green glow could be seen from within, but it soon became apparent the source of the glow was moving. Slowly the source of the light was revealed -- the glowing green eyes of some sort of hideous zombie, shambling out of the tomb! "Good lord, people, do you know what time it is?" it said in a notably Southern, and (clearly feigned) indignant voice. "Y'all are bein' loud enough t'wake the dead!"

Just makin' sure. I have been out of the loop, what with pneumonia and my face sloughing off.

After Hell comes to Freedom? Before? During?

You can have Penetrating on the damage caused by the Enhanced Strength. Like what Belphegor has.
-
Technically, he's not a new player, he was just on a very long hiatus. But everything else Avenger said is Truth.

Buh? I'm on one of them social networking sites with you, and this is the first I've heard of it! As someone who spent the month of October taking care of someone who was bed-bound, I know full well how taxing it can be. My best wishes to both your mother and you.

I blame Sandman.
