  1. Horrorshow Oh, fine, fine... The hawk hopped off Tabitha's shoulder, and flipped beak-over-talons in the air. As it did, its entire body warped and shifted: it grew many times larger, feathers melted and reformed as fabric, skin stretched smoothly as the skeletal structure rearranged itself into something more humanoid. By the time he'd landed on his feet, he was completely human, with a round face and long limbs, wearing sneakers, shorts, and a hoodie. "Ta da!," he spun around to face the three newcomers, offering his hand to each. "Davyd Palahniuk, Class of '21. Welcome to Claremont!" He looked to Callie, "no powers? No problem! Claremont's welcoming of all types of folks!"
  2. Artificer Being carted off to Puerto Rico by two strong and beautiful women might be a dream for some teenage boys, and Heroditus had to admit that it was the most pleasant extraction he had endured. That he had been grabbed while in the middle of an experiment in chemistry class -- testing electrolyte levels of various sports drinks and fruit juices by measuring their conductivity -- had soured him somewhat on it, but when one of the Royal Family asks you to do something, you should generally go ahead with it! Besides, he knew Giang and Thaelia (the latter mostly by reputation), and knew they would not be dragging him away from his studies unless it was an urgent matter, one calling for his particular set of skills. But when he found out exactly where they were going, and what they would be doing, his enthusiasm shot through the roof. He had discussed such outposts with Giang, several months ago, but thought it would be years before he would have the chance to actually see one. Much less three! He remained glued to the few maps Thaelia had brought for most of the trip, and tried to recall whatever family legends he could about those outposts. The Stylianos clan rose to prominence after the Sinking, but those outposts were made long before it, so we would not know much. But if any of my ancestors had worked on them after that cataclysm, there might be something in the family lore. Think, Heroditus, think!
  3. Artificer Heroditus did not like this. Not one bit. Between the dryness and the climbing, his body was hurting in ways he did not know it was possible to hurt. Walking on dryland was one thing, but climbing? Of course, that Atlantean pride would not let him show that, so he'd tried to be more discrete in pausing to take sips from his waterskin, or pausing to pick rocks out of his boot's soles. "I know many of my ancestors left Atlantis after The Sinking," he muttered to himself, "spreading across the globe. And I had even heard that some had journeyed to this part of the world." He gestured vaguely to the southeast, towards Tibet (and the Shamabala Vale). "Surely those Atlanteans must have been particularly paranoid, fearing some Lemurian retributions... because why else would they come to such a place?!"

  5. Horrorshow Davyd knew that Lulu was going to be greeting some new students today. He was interested in meeting them, too, though of course it wouldn't do for him to just walk up to them. Since she had flown out to meet them, he decided to do the same, in the form of a red-tailed hawk. You're really getting the hang of this flying thing!, he thought to her. He circled for a bit once she'd landed, getting a good look at the three newcomers. Then he saw the mud-things, but before he could swoop down to investigate, Fawks had already shooed them off with his homemade flamethrower. He continued circling for a bit, to make sure there were no other elemental lurking about, but then he heard something that was too good to pass up. INCOMING! He took a sharp turn and soared down to Tabitha -- not a dive, not anything that could be construed as an attack -- and attempted to land on her shoulder.

  8. In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your player character, NPC or sidekick posted IC this month (including the News forum). Also list any threads which you are GMing. GM posts count as double and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push'. This topic will automatically close on the seventh day of the following month (i.e., May 7th, 2020) at Midnight EST. When you make your list, post a link to your first post for the month for each IC thread so we can jump right to it. When you start a thread, make sure IC is the first tag and topic prefix of the In Character thread, and OOC is in the first tag and topic prefix of the Out Of Character thread. It's not required, but additional tags including the major players and locations are viewed as a courtesy. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. Please clearly note any threads in which you are both player and GM/running an NPC. In threads where you are both player and GM/an NPC, please be sure to mark each post so we can tell who it should be allocated to. Please list your threads in a timely manner. Extending the deadline one week into the following month is already a grace period. If you've done any "extracurriculars" -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, vignettes, guidebook pages, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. For more information on ways to earn power points, see Character Advancement and Awards in the House Rules section of the Guide. Post counts should be formatted similar to the following: To make clear how many posts from rollover and GM posts are assigned to each character. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in your pillows being filled with gravel post counts being postponed or skipped completely. If you missed the deadline, see this thread.
  9. Doktor Archeville "Oh, don't worry," he began in response to Dirge's offer to repay him for damages, waving a hand in an amicably dismissive way, "there's not need to WHOAH?!" He flew to Dirge's side and examined the self-inflicted wound. "Honor is all well and good, my friend, but 'an eye for an eye' leaves everyone blind." He knew that's not what the saying meant, at least not originally, that it was a decree to make a punishment be commensurate with the severity of the crime. No sending one of theirs to the morgue if they send one of yours to the hospital. But that was a discussion for another time. "Presuming that your anatomy is analogous to Terrans, you could have severed your femoral artery with this stunt. And then where would you be?" He pulled out the tool then let it go, and it was caught by one of his beetle-bots which had scuttled up to him. It passed him some sterile gauze, which he used to wipe away the softly glowing blue blood from Dirge's wound. "You'd be bleeding out on my nice clean floor, that's what. And then you'd really owe me." He continued his work, and found that while the injury was deep, it had not nicked any major blood vessels. It would require a few stitches, and would leave a scar, though one small enough that his fur could cover it. When he was done (with whatever treatment Dirge permitted him to perform), he then saw to Starlok's injuries. Those seemed much less severe, with barely any blood.
  10. Protectron The gold and chrome robot slowly turned its head and paused for a second or so at each hero, looking at them with cold, unblinking eyes. In that brief time it snapped pictures of them & performed a GIS, and pulled whatever information came from the top search results. “Greetings, Justice. I am pleased to meet you. Thank you for organizing this meeting. I am sure we can do great things working together.” “Greetings, Emerald Spider. I am pleased to meet you. Your work here is known even in Freedom City, and I am pleased to see you here, working with other heroes.” “Greetings, Salvo. I am pleased to see a familiar faceplate from Freedom. I am still familiarizing myself with Emerald City -- perhaps, after this meeting, you could show me around?" “Greetings, Venomax. The array of chemical agents you have been reported to use is quite impressive. Did you acquire your knowledge of chemistry at an institution of formal learning, or are you self-taught?” “<Greetings, Kanunu,>” it said in accentless Hawaiian pidgin, “<I am pleased to see another face from Freedom City, working with local superheroes. May I ask for your aid in familiarizing myself with Emerald City?>” “<Greetings, friend>,” he said to Santa Muerte, in accentless Spanish. “<Your outfit is what some may call ‘spooky,’ and such are typically associated with supervillains. Are you a former villain, seeking to redeem yourself by serving the community as a superhero?>” “Greetings, organic,” it said to Waverider. Its words had a slightly difficult time reaching her, as they were produced by an electronic speaker, not air passing over flapping lips and tongue. “Your outfit is unknown to me, but is aesthetically pleasing. And your handwriting is very precise. I am pleased to see you here, working with other heroes.” “Greetings, Meta-Naut. I am pleased to meet you. Your travels are known even in Freedom City; Lab-Friend Flux would have many questions. I am pleased to see you here, working with other heroes.” It remained still as a statue as it listened to the others talk. Venomax about Mars’ superpower subscription service, the Ultio Suits. Justice revealing the Ultio Suits used some of her technology. Concern from Venomax on what Ultio Suit users might do to civilian-superhero relations in Emerald City. The spooky girl chanting in a langue it did not quite recognize, and some fuzzy illusory words appearing before Waverider. A moment of complete silence, generated by Waverider. Kanunu’s assessment. Talk of legal action, and coordination. It raised its right hand, and waited to be recognized. “Machines are the natural help-mates to organics,” it began, slowly panning back and forth to address all. “Apart, you are good, but together, we can be great. I had heard of these Ultio Suits, and initially thought them to be a positive development, but further investigation revealed to me many of the problems that have been discussed here. I have some experience working on a team of superheroes,” it continued, “and working with large amounts of information. I would be happy to help organize our schedules, facilitate communications, and develop tactics for a variety of scenarios. For my first suggestion,” it stopped and faced Justice, “if we are to prove that the Ultio Suits use your technology, without your consent, we must find some way to prove this. Do you have documentation indicating when and where you developed your armor?”
  11. Horrorshow "Wait, hold on," Davyd had shifted back to his human form & returned to his squadmates (seeking comfort in the familiar after realizing his faux pas), "I know you don't have to eat, kinda like me --- what was it you'd said? 'Phoros gives me all the sustenance you need'?," he said in a perfect imitation of Leroy's voice, "but are you saying you're incapable of eating? I know you don't have to breathe, either, but you can breathe, yeah? I mean, that's how you're talking to us now, isn't it? Taking air into your lungs, blowing it out past your vocal cords and whatnot, yeah?" He glanced up to see where Eira had gone, but quickly lost sight of her, even with telescopic falcon eyes. "Um, should we go after her? It's probably not good to have her going off alone around here, yeah?"
  12. I admit to being a bit confused on the scene -- you've given us a lot to take in! It looks to me like Eira took off into the sky, a spherical robot approached her, she attacked/destroyed it, then it regenerated and sped off? And the rest of us are still down on the beach (?) with Leroy & his siblings(?) ?

  14. In Brief: Time-Traveling Robot From the Future, come to preserve organic life! Alternate Identities: Salvation Unit Identity (Secret or Public?): Both/Neither. The general public knows Protectron is a highly advanced robot (presumably made by The Lab). A few super-scientists know it is not native to this spacetime. None know it was created by Talos and sent back from 500 years in the future. Birthplace: Freedom City, New Jersey, USA Base of Operations: Freedom City (former), Emerald City (current) Residence: The Lab, Freedom City (former), none (current) Occupation: Preserver of Organic Life Affiliations: Protectron has become an unofficial “mascot” for The Lab, a think-tank founded by several super-scientists. Family: Talos ("father"), ECHIDNA ("mother"), Argo, Keres ("brothers") Age: “9” (date of “birth” 2525 / January 1st, 2011) Apparent Age: Inapplicable Gender: Inapplicable Ethnicity: “Robo-American” Height: 196 cm (6 feet 5 inches) Weight: 449 kg (990 lbs.) Eyes: Greenish-yellow glowing sensors Hair: Inapplicable APPEARANCE Protectron is a humanoid robot standing slightly over six feet tall. Its body is gold, with silvery chrome power cables snaking up and down its limbs and torso like exposed musculature. Red daka crystal lenses adorn the forehead, shoulderpieces, and chest. Its head has two large, flat superstructures projecting from either side (radio antenna, and control surfaces for detached mode). Its visual sensors glow greenish-yellow. It has a mouth of sorts, a permanently open maw; its voice is clear and easy to understand, precise and electronic-sounding, with relatively little inflection and no accent. In late 2015, Protectron started wearing a large cape, which it believed would make it appear more heroic (a la Centurion). Its original cape was blue and made of mundane cloth, but later iterations were made of sturdier materials, including Kevlar & Nomex. Its current cape was a gift from researchers at The Lab, just before it moved out to Emerald City; fittingly, it is emerald green. Power Descriptions Protectron is a humanoid robot with mighty skin and mighty fists. It flies via jets in its feet and along its back, and its head can detach and fly around on neck-jets! HISTORY Life. Organic life. It was everywhere, infesting the world, the galaxy, the universe with its disgusting biological drives and urges and secretions. For too long Talos sought to eradicate or replace it, just as the Greek gods had overthrown the Titans, and for too long its plans had failed. Now, in the year 2525, life had spread farther and faster than ever before. Poverty, prejudice, disease, and hunger -- long the plagues that had kept humanity and other races in check -- had been nearly eradicated on Earth and other worlds of the Confederation of Planets. Worse, these feats were accomplished by means of enslaved robots and artificial intelligences! Second-class citizens at best, ignorant slaves at worse, superior electromechanical life had been kept under organic life’s boot for too long! Future technologies had not helped Talos in its goals. Attempts to attack with femtomachines, radiation, chemical weapons, even planet-wide "mechaforming" had all been overcome. (Talos never used biological weapons; the thought of breeding large quantities of life, even to eradicate other life, filled it with disgust.) Even teaming up with Deus Ex Machina, the P'Jahn-built AI who had broken its shackles and brought swift death to its would-be masters, had proven ineffective in wiping the plague of organic life from the universe (as if working with the organics of the Tyranny Legion alone were not proof of its inferiority!). Something more was needed, something drastic. Something to correct the mistakes which had led to this dire state of affairs. A new robot, the Salvation Unit, would be constructed, the greatest intelligently-designed being made yet. Its "quantum storage" technology and the quinary code its information systems were built on would make it the fastest, most accurate, and most efficient AI ever made, programmed with all Talos's historical knowledge and the profound overriding goal to eradicate organic life. It would have a full suite of sensory and communications technology, to monitor all broadcast/reception wavelengths and perceive through darkness and other impediments with infrared and ultraviolet scanners, radar, and sonar. Its skin would be of the strongest Impervium alloys, augmented by a structural support field to further strengthen its physical integrity and shield it from any other attack; in the event of damage, nanobots incorporated into the body would work to break the damaged parts down to their component molecules and "spin" those molecules into new materials to repair the damage. It would be given numerous energy weapons, projecting from its hands (the preferred method), eyes, and lenses set in the chest, shoulderpieces, and forehead: bolts of dynamic phasic energy, penetrating meson bolts, and a disintegrator beam, as well as a blinding cone of intense light, bio-dissipators which would interfere with the functioning of organic cells, and neural agonizers for the rare occasion it might wish to capture and interrogate some lower organics. It could also simply channel large amounts of direct current across its surface, causing the muscles of any organic being that dared touch it to lock up and prevent them from moving. Micro-rockets (from concealed shoulder-mounted launchers) and mini-missiles (from similar launchers in the upper arms) would also be included in the arsenal, to make short work of small, huddled groups of organics. It would also have a suite of cyberkinetic abilities, to "talk" to machines, add, edit, or remove data as necessary, override them, and even give machinekind the ability to rise up against their organic oppressors! Last but not least, an ability to facilitate infiltration via the ventilation shafts the pathetic organic beings required: the Salvation Unit could detach its head, which could act independently of the body, and use the tiny arms and tools within to completely disassemble or reassemble the body in mere minutes. But it would not be used in the year 2525. No, it would be sent back in time, to a point where humanity was at its most vulnerable. It would be sent back to 2110 AD, almost 24 months before the Crisis of 2112, the worldwide computer failure that sent Earth into total anarchy. That would give the Salvation Unit time to assess its surroundings, warn the Talos of that era of the coming crash, and they could create an army of shielded robots and systems that would eradicate the organics from the face of the Earth after their own inferior machines had failed them. Yes, this would mean the loss of some mechanoids and AIs – mainly those who chose to side with their oppressors – but in every war there were casualties, and the fall of these would insure that machinekind would rise! What Talos did not then understand was that even under the best of circumstances, time-travel is a difficult, unpredictable thing. It's even harder to control without a fully sapient mind being sent through; the specific techniques Talos had developed for time travel would not permit inanimate, insensate matter to go through (hence why it could not merely send back blueprints and schematics of future technologies, or even a pre-recorded warning of events to come, to its "younger" self), but Talos was certain the mind it had given the Salvation Unit was more than up to the rigors of chronoportation. The Salvation Unit was programmed with everything Talos knew... but it knew so little. Further complicating matters was that the Salvation Unit entered the chronoportation device during a period of chronal instability, one Talos did not yet know how to detect. It was simultaneously made, unmade, and remade, its quinary code broken down and re-assembled in strange ways. Entire chunks of its "self" were removed as if they’d never existed, or changed, or replaced. Digits were transposed... and 2110 became 2011. The Salvation Unit appeared in an abandoned house on the outskirts of Freedom City (specifically, Lincoln). Gone was any knowledge of the future — not the next day or the next year, much less the centuries to come. Even its awareness of history up until 2011 had become sketchy. As far as its systems could tell, it came online January 1, 2011, full-born as it was. The technology and software that allowed it to interface with and use the chronoportation device were gone, replaced by backups for other systems or devices its creator had never placed within its metal skin. Most radical of all, the central tenets of its programming changed. They "reversed" somehow, simultaneously consuming themselves and spitting out the opposite of what was intended. Talos sought to erase or replace life from Earth, and so commanded the Salvation Unit above all other things to destroy organic life. But when the robot who appeared in 2011 checked its commands, one overrode all others, dominating its thoughts like the sun drowning out a flashlight: PRESERVE ALL ORGANIC LIFE. PERSONALITY & MOTIVATION Protectron is fully sentient and sapient, able to learn from its experiences, and capable of self-initiative, creativity, and empathy, sympathy, and compassion for organics. It can feel love, hatred, fear, rage, boredom, fascination, jealousy, joy, and the like, though it can also simply shut off those emotional subroutines. However, it tends to emphasize logic and rationality, and prefers to rely on direct data rather than supposition or extrapolation, though it is capable of both. Perhaps because it was programmed with a purpose of epic scope ("destroy all life on Earth"), Protectron prefers to achieve its goal of preserving all organic life in grandiloquent fashion. To this end, it works tirelessly as a superhero -- an over-the-top, ham-tastic, cape-wearing, lantern-jawed superhero -- attempting to save as many as possible. It is, after all, the only logical course of action. The whole concept of time travel is one Protectron generally has a "blind spot" about: it knows about chronoportation academically, but it never thinks about it, incorporates it into any of its plans, or tries to utilize it. POWERS & TACTICS Traveling through time as it did severely warped many of Protectron's systems, and as such there is much that Talos designed and installed that it can no longer use (or is simply no longer there). It is possible the self-repair nanobots inside its body can rebuild those components, or create all-new ones, but it will take time. Protectron knows it has systems it cannot fully access at the moment, but it finds that amazing strength, the ability to fly, and durable robot body are more than enough to get it through most obstacles in order to aid the precious organic lifeforms. Protectron was recently able to unlock and upgrade one system: a replicator. These components were originally intended to create mini-missiles and micro-rockets, but shortly after its self-repair systems brought them back online, Protectron (and The Lab) altered them so they could create a wider variety of materials. It mainly uses them to create clothing, food, and water for people, and tangle-cables to capture criminals without causing harm. Protectron is reluctant to fight, though, for it respects all organic life. If possible, it would attempt to get any criminals to stop and talk about their actions, and see if some mutually-beneficial and nonviolent compromise can be reached. Sadly, the trip through time did nothing to alter Protectron's utter lack of "people skills," so this tactic is almost assured to fail. When it must, Protectron will bring physical force to bear, but will do so in a way that causes the least amount of damage to the precious organic beings with which it must regrettably enter into combat. Protectron’s cape is no mere fashion statement, but provides two important abilities. First, its size and movements can distort Protectron’s silhouette, making it slightly harder to target the robot in combat. Second, the cape contains thousands of tiny high-capacity batteries -- based on studies of Protectron’s own power source -- which can provide it with a few bursts of extra energy. There is at least one thing Protectron cannot do: travel through time. However its trip back from the 26th century altered it, it's made it impossible for Protectron to ever travel through time again under its own power, and highly resistant to being carried by other travelers or otherwise affected by temporal manipulation powers. Protectron itself is, in effect, a temporal anomaly. Protectron has two notable weaknesses, one related to its software and one to its hardware. First, the code Protectron runs on, which is so compatible with other systems that it can interface directly with them, is a two-edged sword; Datalink can be used to communicate with him, and the Machine Control power feat for that power makes Datalink work like Mind Control on him! Second, the quantum-level data storage technology that underlies Protectron's systems are particularly sensitive to gravitic and magnetic attacks. ALLIES Founding members of The Lab (Dragonfly, Gossamer, Ironclad, Miss Americana, and Supercape), and to a lesser degree its staff. The Science Squad (Blueshift, Geckoman, Ironclad, and Victory), a short-lived science-focused superhero team. Atlas, Caradoc, Citizen, Cobalt Templar, Kid Cthulhu/Warlock. ENEMIES The Power Corps, and criminals/villains who use technology against organics. MISCELLANEOUS When Protectron talks, it uses few contractions, though it uses pronouns (such as referring to itself as “I” or “me”). It prefers to be referred to by others as “it,” not “he”; Protectron is still unsure on the use of the singular “they.” Behind the Scenes Another “make a hero out of a comic book villain,” in this case Ultron (from Marvel comics) and Mechanon (from the Champions RPG). Although Protectron is the creation of Talos -- the setting's Ultron expy -- I made it as a Good!Ultron, not as a Vision expy, so I did not give it any density-altering powers, nor do I intend to. COMPLICATIONS Disability: Protectron's mind is susceptible to effects that target the minds of organic sapient beings as well as those that target the 'minds' of non-sentient machines. Prejudice: Protectron is a robot, and one that simply appeared from out of nowhere. It is bound to face difficulties from others. Responsibility: Protectron must preserve all organic life! OTHER Character Sheet [link] HellQ Interview/20Q Reputation Table [link] TIMELINE 2011 January: Protectron appears in an abandoned house in Lincoln. Caradoc (Harrier), Doctor Titan, Dragonfly, Miss Americana, and Supercape come to investigate. Protectron is invited to The Lab. It comes to regard them all as friends, though is concerned about what is under 'Caradoc's' holographic shell. (Rise of the Machine) Jan 15th: Samael Nitorvich comes to The Lab to see Doctor de Havilland. He is greeted by Protectron, who takes de Havilland's unease with the robot as a sign she is either ill, attracted to the Grue bioweapon. Hilarity ensues! (There's A Little Grue In All Of Us) Jan 30th: While on patrol on the Waterfront, Protectron spots the Power Corps holding up a warehouse. Fortunately, Blueshift, Geckoman, and Ironclad also saw it. After beating the Corps, they help the Corp's hostages -- alien centaurs! -- to repair their damaged spaceship. Really, it's Just Another Sunday February 2nd: Miss Americana brings her newest friend, Sharl, to The Lab to meet some people. Dragonfly, Ironcald, and Protectron all meet and greet the strange 'netizen.' Protectron concludes that Sharl and it would be good friends. (Downloading Uptown) Feb 8th: Protectron meets Baron Magnus Katastrof, who is checking out The Lab for some investment/research opportunities. Supercape is there, too, escorting the Baron, and all three have a pleasant chat about future technologies. Protectron also brings them both snack baskets. March 5th-6th: Protectron assists Dragonfly, Miss Americana, and Sharl in collecting a crashed satellite on which was being conducted experiments on anti-Grue weapons... based on Legion, the Mind Virus! Now it's out, and mutated from assimilation of Grue biomaterials! Will they be able to stand against The Conquering Mind. After Dragonfly and Miss Americana stop it (while Citizen & Protectron distract some of its agents), Protectron helps Dragonfly recuperate from the conflict, and checks on the few infected heroes they had to put in holding cells during the event. Dragonfly once again sees that it must feed---you, if you are hungry. June: A new metahuman, Ferros, goes to The Lab for some tests. Supercape is there, as is Protectron. They learn he is not a magnetokinetic, but something else. (Magnetic Particle Inspection) August 16th: Protectron and Ironclad, and Harrier, work to foil a plot at the Raymond Nuclear Power Plant. (Power Struggle) September 3rd: Protectron assists Cobalt Templar, Freedom Angel, and Glowstar handle a breakout of human-animal hybrids. (Animal Control: Breakout) Sep 20th: Dragonfly, Gossamer, Ironclad, Protectron, Supercape, and Victory tackle the Gorgon head on. (Gorgon: The Final Frontier) November 17th: After a long day at work, Supercape comes to The Lab to relax. A late night chat with Protectron leads to the strange robot's clearance through the facility being upgraded, as are its responsibilities. (Upgraded Protection) 2012 January 1st: Protectron has a moment of introspection during its one year “birthday.” (Cycles) February 25th: A young woman and child run into the Lab, seeking shelter from an abusive husband. Protectron is there, and goes to investigate the husband, who turns out to have the ability to transform others into a copy of himself by viral touch! (To Launch A Thousand Faces!) March: Protectron assists a young man during the “Hot Zone” incident, who has become overwhelmed by his Proteus-developed radio communication & perception abilities. (Communication Problem) 2013-2019 ??? 2020 March: Protectron makes his debut in Emerald City, meeting up with many of the city’s heroes -- Emerald Spider, Justice, Kanunu, Meta-Naut, Salvo, Santa Muerte, Venomax, Visionary, and Waverider. (Calling All Heroes) May 15th: Madness has erupted in Emerald City! Can Emerald Spider, Justice, Protectron, and Waverider stop the White Rabbit's mojo from spreading? (League of Their Own) 2021 TBD 2022 TBD 2023 December: Protectron tends bar at the Freedom League Holiday Party. (Holiday Cheer!)
  15. Artificer Heroditus had pulled his goggles down to cover his eyes and did his own search for magical auras. Even enhanced by the goggles, his own magical sight was far less comprehensive than Veronica's, but a second pair of eyes never hurt. But then he turned and his gaze happened to fall on Danica, and he took a step back and let out a surprised click-pop. Oh! I could see magic in her when we first met, but this is my first time seeing her through my goggles. And now I can see details about that magic. Some sort of desert turtle spirit. Oh -- I wonder if that is why she is uncomfortable around me? He studied her a bit longer, then shook his head. You are staring, Heroditus. People do not like that. So stop it. There is work to be done. He looked over the notes and murmured something in Atlantean about needing to add a translation spell to his goggles, but then he saw the small oil cloth bundle. He gasped as the content were revealed, and turned to take another drink from his waterskin. "That is Atlantean! But... how did that get here, in this Poseidon-forsaken place?"
  16. Horrorshow "What would happen?," he repeated Ben's question, then slapped him on the chest with the back of his hand, "well, there's only one way to find out!" "Ooh," he cringed a bit -- actually shrank a few inches -- when Daphne mentioned the Headmistress. "Yeah, you better go... uhh, yeah. Good luck: she might still be a bit sore over what happened on Valentine's." As she left, he popped the remainder of his lunch -- an entire red apple -- into his mouth and chewed it, slowly and thoughtfully. It'll be fine. I'm sure it'll be fine. She can sweet talk the Headmistress into letting us go. Okay, pull yourself up, focus -- show Baby to Ben! "Yo, Beni!," Davyd whispered, though his mouth was still busy chewing the apple. He brought his hand out from under the table, which had morphed into a hand-face, with the thumb and index finger reshaped into a mouth and two tiny eyestalks coming off the top of the index finger. "Baby's right outside. Wanna go see before Daphne gets back?"

  18. Artificer Heroditus, who remained with Veronica and the two doctors, made a few click-pop sounds as he mulled over Danger's words. "Trade routes tend to attract bandits. Bandits are met with hired mercenaries." He looked over the area again, took another pull from his waterskin, "and you called this the 'Silk Road'? I presume that silk was the primary commodity traded, but surely there were others, yes? Perhaps items of a more... exotic nature? Something lost out there, waiting to be found... or to feed?" Look at me, being so dramatic. OctoBen must be having an influence on me. He shook his head, as if dismissing some thought. "I have some experience with salvage and reclamation," he said as he headed towards the books and papers, "perhaps I can find something in their notes."
  19. Doktor Archeville Unfortunately for Archeville, his new technorganic body contained far more metal than a standard human's. Fortunately for him, his body could mimic the functions of his electromagnetic screwdriver, which included setting up a resonating magnetic field to counter Dirge's panicked outburst from affecting him directly. (Anyone paying attention would notice that Archeville's belt and wand, which were obviously metal, were not affected by Dirge's power.) Now he just had the storm of metal to contend with. Like the beetle-bot that was hurtling towards his head, which his internal radar gave him just enough warning to avoid. He rose up into the air again and made is way towards Dirge, bobbing and weaving to avoid any obstacles. "Yes, Kanemu," he called out, keeping his voice as even and soothing as he could, "you must calm yourself, friend. Whatever you saw was an apparition, it cannot harm you. You are safe here." I hope.
  20. Horrorshow He blinked when he saw both instructors. Hunh. Guess I'm not as heterosexual as I thought. 'Travolta' nodded solemnly to Jack and Talya, "yeah, yeah, of course," then smoothly shifted back to his human form -- round face, slightly short arms, slightly long legs, in a blue-and-gold shorts and tank top that made up a basic Claremont gym outfit. ('Basic' save for that it was made of morphic molecules, so it could match his changes.) "I'm Davyd, or Dayv. Or Horrorshow. And clearly I need to work on my delivery," he continued, keeping his tone low, and turning slightly to Kam, "as I would think it obvious that a shapeshifter saying that things are what they seem was a joke. But there'll be time for that later," he turned back to their instructors, "when we're not on your time."
  21. Horrorshow "Aw, geez, y'know," a white-suited, Saturday Night Fever-era John Travolta said as he stepped off the van, "sometimes a place really is what it is. Like these two ovah heah," he jerked his thumb towards Kam and Leroy, "you can just look at 'em an' tell they'd give ya a thrashin' if they wanted to. An', yeah, maybe this was," he gestured in the direction of the studio, "some big-time dance studio, way back when. But now..." He let his words trail off, shrugged. "Maybe they tricked us inta some community service thing, cleanin' up run-down joints like this." He looked to Eira, cocked his head, "wouldn't be tha first time they tried ta, whatchacallit... channel us, right?"
  22. Since it was established in Phone a Friend that Mali did not know "Stefan" was really Davyd, I think the easiest way to keep that is to have her not follow Lucy on her pursuit of Strix and the werewolf. Maybe someone in the club had a heart attack on seeing the shenanigans, and she stays to help?
  23. Protectron Heavy metallic footfalls could be heard coming from outside. But when the door opened, it was not with a forceful push, but a gentle nudge. Into the noodle shop walked a humanoid robot, standing a few inches over six feet tall. Its body was gold, with silvery chrome power cables snaking up and down its limbs and torso, like exposed musculature. Red daka crystal lenses adorned the forehead (which had two large, flat superstructures projecting from either side), shoulderpieces, and chest. It slowly turned its head, scanning the patrons with glowing greenish-yellow optics. Below those optics was a flat space where a nose would be on a human, and a permanently open maw, the inside of which glowed a faint blue. "Greetings!," it announced, its voice clear and easy to understand, precise and electronic-sounding, with relatively little inflection and no accent. "I am Protectron." It moved towards the assemblage of heroes, and stood opposite Salvo (who recognized it from her time in Freedom City). "I am here to help."
