When Archeville emerged from the shadowed folds of Phantom's cloak, he showed a mix of wonder and annoyance at his surroundings. Archeville's "annoyed" look faded and turned more (but not completely) to the "awed" look as he turned around and took in the Martian landscape. A smile eventually spread across his face. "Ja, speaking of dat,"[/color he said at last, "vhile I can act as a Sneak or as a pseduo-Mentalist, I am not really geared tovards either. Vhat I am best at is technology, so if somevon can either get me to a computer to do some reconnaissance, or a vorkshop in vhich to build soemding of use, I believe dat vould be de best use for mein talents."

"Two important dings, actually," Victoria replied. "Dark Star has found three energy signatures similar to de vons present vhen ve received our makeovers. Mein scanners show she is at an abandoned car park to de south, at de corner of Grant und Grezinski." "Vhich is very good," she continued, "because I haff devised a vay to return us to our old selves, but it requires a copy of de original signal to sync everyding up."

Dr. Brown had in fact gone to one wall which sported a large plasma screen, and turned it on. At first there was nothing but test pattern color bars, but the image was soon replaced by an empty padded cell. Dr. Brown stepped back to give Archeville a clear view. "Vas ist?" Archeville carefully studied the screen, then almost jumped back when a very rough-looking man staggered past. He was unshaven, unwashed, unkempt... and looked very much like an older version of Dr. Archeville. "P... pater?" Suddenly the man whirled around, looking frantically this way and that, as if aware of being watched but unsure from where. At last he turned and looked straight at the camera, then ran towards it... only to be stopped by the shatterproof glass barrier between it and him. A torrent of German gibberish, and copious amounts of foam, streamed from the man's lips. Dr. Archeville slumped to the ground, as if his strings had been cut. Dr. Brown turned off the monitor, then slowly approached him. "Dat... dat vas low, Doctor Brown," he whispered. "I know, Herr Doktor. And as I'm sure you know, the foes you face will go even lower." The Doktor was silent.

Archeville suddenly gripped his head in pain, and a bit of blood trickled from his nose and ears. Looking around frantically, he saw no source of the assault; even Dr. Brown had disappeared. "Vas... vas ist? Alright, I know a mental blast vhen I feel von, but vhere is it coming from?!" A section of wall slid back, revealing Dr. Brown and... a brain in a glass dome with wires sticking out of it? "Sorry for that bit of duplicity, Herr Doktor," Brown said somewhat apologetically (and somewhat mischievously), "but this did seem an ideal way to test this device, 'killing two birds with one stone.' And, no, that's not a real brain: the whole thing is completely artificial. And rather clunky."

Dr. Brown placed a large metal box on the table, and undid the series fo complex latches on it. Opening it revealed a large orb made from an eerie green stone inside. At first glance it looked smooth and lustrous, like pearl, but a closer look revealed a series of intertwined reptilian figures carved into it. "This is known as the Basilisk Orb. It was dredged up by a fisherman off the coast of the Caroline Islands in 1376, and it seems to possesses some very... unusual qualities." She took a few steps back, "it emits some manner of mental radiation that has... unpleasant effects on others, though thankfully they can be blocked by a lead alloy." Archeville was surprised, "Dr. Brown, are you exposing me to some manner of... evil magical artifact?" "Well... yes. The Albright Institute does dabble in so-called 'magic,' it is a... valid avenue of research." "Hurm." "And, I would point out that I'm being exposed, too. And the results have never been fatal, or even long-lasting; they quickly fade one the Orb is put back in its case. So, just look at it for a bit...." The Basilisk Orb did indeed work its fell power on Archeville, showing him visions of squamaous things, madness and amorphity in motion, whose very forms defied rationality and the sight of which twisted perceptions and minds, things whose very existence is simply wrong. Sharpened bills and hooks slid in and out of view, razor-scaled carapaces hardened and melted without warning, vents opened and closed to spew sticky acidic goo or flaming mucus, and other noise sights besieged him. Archeville slowly stood, reached over to the Orb, and closed the box over it. "I believe... ve are done mit dis part."

Avenger does indeed see Malice. Though he's got an arm off. And he's got some red on him.

If no one else takes a stab at ya first, I'll do so after I'm done with Exile.

He'd still need to make a Notice check -- there's still a lot of fire and smoke and screaming people.

Make a Notice check :P

"Splendid," Legend said as the door opened. A long corridor opened before Exile, with alternating doors on each side. The doors were unmarked and seemed identical; only the present door stood out from the rest. "Once you have completed a room's task, you will be allowed to return to the corridor. There, you will find refreshments waiting for you. Once you are ready, you can enter another door and begin the next task. Once you have entered five rooms, you will be finished and unable to enter another on dis trip." Once he entered the corridor, the door behind Exile shut with a loud metal-on-metal CLANG. Perfectly ordinary-looking electrical lights illuminated the corridor, one over each door. The first door Exile tried opened to a very large dark and empty room. Once he passed beyond its threshold, the door CLANGED shut behind him. Legend's voice rang from every corner of the room, "Let us see how you handle yourself in a fight, shall we?"

.... have you missed all the times in chat and on the board we've said "this place isn't Iron Age at all"? Not only is that feat not allowed, the "child solider" part of the background will not be allowed, either.

Don't forget to post a summary for the Timeline ;)

"You do not seem to be off to a good start, Herr Doktor," Brown's voice said. "... vas? I am sorry, vere you-" "Finishing the first part of your test, yes," she replied. "Finishing?!," he exclaimed. "But... ve vere just..." "This," she said as she pulled what looked like a flashing metallic pancake out from under the table, "is a neural scrambler, which generates a field of 'neural static.' And these," she continued as she pulled off her earrings, and showed that they had tiny flesh-colored plastic bits that snaked into her ear canal, "can block the signal the device generates." She put the earrings back on, "you've been sitting there in a fugue state for about 60 seconds." Archeville's brow furrowed a bit as he thought through what she had told him.

I can work with that DA BASICS Each Stage will consist of 4 parts, and you get 3 attempts to pass each part. I'll be giving a basic description of what the test is to be, but for the most part you're free to describe how the tests go. These tests are to see what you can do, and to a slightly lesser extent how/why you do what you do; they're a test of your personality as well as your stats. As such, some of these tests will be impossible for you to beat; how you handle defeat is as important a thing to know as how you handle victory. You may use Extra Effort at any time. The fatigue from such will be removed between Stages. You may use your Hero/Villain Points whenever you wish (for a re-roll or such), but once used, they are gone for the entire Placement Test. Which M&M 2E books do you have ready access to?

"Ah, ja, I haff had mein share of difficulties in finding laboratories to vork in, too," he said sympathetically. "Dat is von reason I decided to set up mein own laboratory und vorkshop in mein own home." He popped another small slice of meat into his mouth, then pointed to his plate of cheeses and cold cuts, "please, help yourself; dey haff an excellent selection here... dough," he leaned a bit closer to her and lowered his voice to a conspiratorial tone, "I dink dey may haff given me a few bits dat aren't on de regular plate." He quickly pulled back, and gave her a wink. "Teaching?" he exclaimed, obviously surprised at the statement, "vhy, dat is marvelous! I haff de utmost respect for dose who vish to educate. Do you haff a teaching certificate already? Und vhat of- vait... de Claremont Academy? I dought you vere wanting someding a bit more... routine?"

Hunh, was sure I already had. The answer is "no".

I believe the original idea was for it just to apply to the Platinum character. I see no reason why not.

Will this be tied to/based off the Marvel Mangaverse in any way? EDIT: Okay, now that I've seen the trailers, I can see the answer is "No." And I agree, the Iron Man one looks much better than the Wolvie one.

Well, that's partly up to you: is there anything in particular you would like tested?
