Triple Murder in Riderside, Rebooted [OOC]

That was my idea, yes. (That thread had been for several chars, but about half have left.) -
Cyroa (Silver) - Hellion - PL14 Hero
Dr Archeville replied to Cyroa's topic in Non-Player Characters
I was saying that "Devil" doesn't work for a hero name, but changing it (even slightly, to something like "Blue Devil" or "Kid Devil") is more acceptable. But Hellion works rather well, too. ;) -
Raylis, are you still with us?

Melancholy - PL 6 Hero (or so he hopes) - ex3lev3n
Dr Archeville replied to ex3lev3n's topic in Archived Characters
You may want to look into taking a more direct attack effect as one of the APs. As it stands now, your best attack is your Despair, which calls for a DC 16 Will save. On an average roll, a Bystander (getting a 10) will fail that by 6, which makes them shaken (-2 to attack rolls, defense, and checks). Other PL 6 chars will probably get better results on their saves. I could see something like Dazzle 6 (visual [extreme crying]; Extra: Alt Save [Will instead of Fort to shake off]) Mental Blast 4 (grieve yourself to death; Flaw: Action/Full round) Paralyze 6 (depression; Extra: Range/Ranged; Flaw: Slow only) Or expand it to give him more ghost-like powers, like Telekinesis 5 (Str 25; PFs: Indirect, Subtle) or Telekinesis 3 (Str 15; Extra: Range/Perception; PFs: Indirect, Subtle). -

Dr. Archeville's face grew grim as the state of the world was laid out. He made mental notes of the superbeings his counterpart's screens showed them. "A grim view indeed; I am doubly sorry ve had to meet under such circumstances. Dat magical nullification field: someding somevon else put into effect as de vorld vent to pot, or some 'natural' phenomenon? I haff mein on theories on da-" He caught himself, "no, no; now is not de time." The Doktor tapped his chin again, "is dat de only impediment to Arachnos' conquest? Vhat of de Farsiders on de Moon, or other extraterrestrial beings?"

Good question, as I had been working on an IC post, then was stopped when I started getting all sorts of error messages from the board (and co-workers appeared to ask me questions). I'll need a Notice and Search check from you, and a Reflex save from you. I also need you to make a decision: Easy or Hard. Easy = going into the easier-to-get-to house Hard = going into the harder-to-get-to house EDIT: Don't need toughness save. At this point.

Cyroa (Silver) - Hellion - PL14 Hero
Dr Archeville replied to Cyroa's topic in Non-Player Characters
I'd really prefer if a Heroic char's name wasn't exactly the same as that of the Satan figure from Middle Persian mythology & Zoroastrianism. ("Blue Devil" or "Kid Devil" are okay names for heroes, "The Devil" really isn't.) EDIT: the above, of course, applies just to heroes; many comic villains are named after evil figures from associated mythologies and religions, but heroes, not so much. -
If you can't think of examples, it's probably not a good idea to use it Best way I've seen is Tough Range General Area attack, with Progression to shrink the Area.

Moira - Doctor Zhou - PL13 Villain (NPC Tier 2)
Dr Archeville replied to Moira Morley's topic in Archived Characters
I thought you were going to go with the Array, not a VP? (Arrays work better for NPCs) -
Well, I see one problem trying to model the effect: due to the differences in how creatures, construct, and objects are damaged in Mutants & Masterminds, there's no one effect that an both make items crumble and make people sick. Drain Con would make people ill (and could kill them), but does squat to items. Ditto on Drain Fortitude save, though that can't kill folks. Drain Toughness would make items crumble (if it has the Affects Objects extra), and would make people weaker, but not ill (in the sense that their resistance to disease and poison -- their Fort save -- won't be affected). You could in theory do a Linked Drain Fortitude + Affects Objects Drain Toughness... bu that seems a tad clunky. Closer, I think, is some sort of Area Strike effect for the "items crumble & people get hurt" thing, and have some sort of flaw/drawback on your other powers that you have to periodically use the Strike in order to "power up" the other abilities... but I'm not exactly sure on just how that would stat out. But, as Shaen pointed out, heroes who have to make others sick/destroy property in order to use their abilities (even if they do angst over said powers) doesn't fit well with the overall mood/tone we're trying to maintain here.

Um, one of your Emotion Contorl Alt Powers is exactly the same as base power, and another alt is the same as another alt. -

And as for Alternate Powers, each Alt can be built on up to as many points as the base power. So for Emotion Control 6 (Extra: Burst Area; Flaw: Limited to Despair only) [12pp] you could have any of the following as an Alt Emotion Control 6 (he focuses on one person, he can evoke any emotion; reminding someone of the love they felt for a deceased partner, or filling them with rage at the memories of friends they have lost, or the calm finality of Death itself) Emotion Control 6 (Extra: Penetrating; Flaw: Limited to Despair) (he can make even people with Mind Shields feel despair) Emotion Control 4 (Extras: Burst Area, Selective Attack; Flaw: Limited to Despair) (with some effort -- reflected by the reduced ranks -- he can affect only some of the people in a group) -

Much better background/motive His Super-Sense will need a sense type associated with it. I would suggest Mental. And speaking of Super-Senses, I'd think his "Emotional Mind Reading" could be better done as a Super-Sense, since you can't get nearly as much from reading emotions as you can from reading thoughts. The Selective Power Feat is not appropriate for either Area Emotion Control or Area Mind Reading, since both effects call for saving throws. If you want to be able to affect an area, but not everyone in the area, you'll need the Selective Attack extra. You may wish to look up Comprehend (Spirits). -
Holy frack! Terhune stood dumbfounded, his jaw actually a bit slack as the presentation was made. A moment or two after Gwen spoke, he found his voice, "madame... am I to understand that this... system can be used to create items, or most any size or description, to fit most any need or desire?"

Triple Murder in Riderside, Rebooted [OOC]
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Archives
Let's wrap this one up first before I shuffle you all off there, hrm? ;) -
One of my planned beach vacation reads is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Also the 2nd and 3rd Star Doc novels, which are kinda like the Sector General series I mentioned a few posts up, but not as good. (True, there's not the "women can only be nurses b/c the female brain can't possibly learn all that's needed to know to be a doctor" 50s sexism holdover as seen in SG, but that is that series only flaw; the medicine and science in that series is up front and solid, and the aliens aren't of the Star Trek "mostly humanoid, and can interbreed with anything regardless of background" type, they are weird and wondrous in variety. By contrast, the first SD book had about as much medical science as an ep of Grey's Anatomy, and there is repeated mention of cross-breeding.)

I will be at a beach all next week (July 13th-17th), and during that time I may not have any 'net access. (Hotel has free wi-fi in the lobby, not in the rooms.) *prepares to report back to his Deep One brethren*

Archeville's eyes went wide at Dark Star's accusations, though whether it was from the (semi-)reveal or in the (tactless) way in which Dark Star made the reveal was unclear. "Dat is an... interesting choice of vords," Doc replies, looking to his counterpart, then turning to Dark Star, "but I am of de same mind: such revelations can vait, after ve haff dealt mit de more pressing issues." He approached a monitor, "are dere any images of dis Arachnos? Footage of him engaging in battle?" [[ Assuming The Archeville says no. ]] "Ah, I thought as such; never hurts to ask, dough." He tapped his chin thoughtfully, "Vhat of his underlings, dose who answer directly to him? Ve haff tangled mit Odysseus some, so ve know a bit of vhat to expect from him, but who else answers directly to Arachnos, who are his 'favored agents'?"

I'll need to know three beings (people, mystical entities, whatever) that Exile respects and/or fears.
