  1. IC appears to be down again :(
  2. Unless you want to "get the last word in," sure.
  3. One of the gifts I got for my birthday was Alien Emergencies, which contains the 4th, 5th, and 6th books of the Sector General series (Ambulance Ship, Sector General, and Star Healer). So far, it's been Very Nifty. (And, yes, they have a TV Tropes page )
  4. *bump* for the benefit of the few new villains we've gotten
  5. DA BASICS Each Stage will consist of 4 parts, and you get 3 attempts to pass each part. I'll be giving a basic description of what the test is to be, but for the most part you're free to describe how the tests go. These tests are to see what you can do, and to a slightly lesser extent how/why you do what you do; they're a test of your personality as well as your stats. As such, some of these tests will be impossible for you to beat; how you handle defeat is as important a thing to know as how you handle victory. You may use Extra Effort at any time. The fatigue from such will be removed between Stages. You may use your Hero/Villain Points whenever you wish (for a re-roll or such), but once used, they are gone for the entire Placement Test. STAGE ONE This test is to see how forceful and commanding Knievel can be. You'll be making Charisma checks, with the DCs listed below. You may use Intimidate instead, but the DC will be 10 points higher. Each part has more and more people in the group, and the people become more resistant to his displays. Part 1 -- DC 10 (20 if using Intimidate) Part 2 -- DC 15 (25 if using Intimidate) Part 3 -- DC 20 (30 if using Intimidate) Part 4 -- DC 25 (35 if using Intimidate)
  6. The room Knievel entered appeared empty. As soon as the door closed behind him, Legend's MalArchevillice voice rang out in the room. "Your task is simple, Mist- Knievel. You pride yourself on your force of personality as vell as your force of arms. But mere strength is far too easy a ding to test. So, ve shall see vhat sort of man you are, und vhat sort of men vould follow you. Svay dem mit you vords und displays, if you can." A lighted path appeared in the middle of the room, and two young men appeared on it, walking and talking about nothing in particular.
  7. Stealth = 16 Untrained Knowledge = 17!
  8. IIRC, weren't those other aspects "so she can get invited to fancy events"? If that's all... again, she doesn't need money for that, she just needs to walk around the right parts of town and be seen by the right people. ;)
  9. For Doc... it's probably just more Science-y Knowledge (and possibly Craft) rolls, though there may be penalties or bonuses depending on what Avenger and Dark Star find.
  10. That's one of the things about M&M: taking feats that add to some PL-capped stat (Attractive, Defensive Roll, Dodge Focus, Favored Environment/Opponent, Sneak Attack, and so on) mean you're less effective than someone who just took ranks in that stat, since you won't always be able to take advantage of those feats.
  11. It would be a drawback since Nonlethal-only means he cannot damage Objects or Constructs.
  12. And Doc! Though he & Arrowhawk are "Consultants."
  13. Doktor Archeville strolled down the sidewalk towards Emissary's embassy. Well, more like floated, since his feet weren't touching the ground, thanks to his gravimetric belt. He smiled and nodded to passersby, and did the occasional mid-air flip to the delight of children. He had stayed low to the ground partly in order to get a good view of the architecture around him. With as many metahumans as it had, several of Freedom's buildings were constructed such that they offered unique views to fliers or entities with beyond-human senses. But much beauty could still be seen on the ground level with basic human eyes, a fact he was sure to not let himself forget. Not that he forgot very much. Though he sometimes pretended otherwise: people expected Mad Scientists to be absent-minded. His shoulder-length golden blonde hair was pulled back in a loose ponytail, which accentuated the thin, sharp lines of his face, a face that looked barely of drinking age despite having seen over 30 years. His navy blue khaki pants and white shirt had been crisply pressed, and his hands were in his lab coat pockets, though one hand constantly fidgeted with the wand-like omni-gadget inside. As he rounded the final corner to the Embassy, he saw Alexandra Albright emerge from her car. Something about her seemed vaguely familiar to him, though he couldn't place what or why. So he decided to do some investigation: after mentally noting the car's make, model and license plate, he approached her, smiling. "Good day! Are you here for Emissary's little reception, too?"
  14. Agreed, if we are to continue this, let it be elsewhere. So... I guess I'll have Doc show up now!
  15. A majority of the Refs have weighed in. Agonizing, Blinding, and Crippling Blow/Strike are fine as-is. Defensive Strike is allowed, but it will count towards caps (i.e., PL 10 char with no trade-offs could have Attack 6 + Defensive Strike).
  16. "I believe ve are, ja," Archeville said firmly. "Ve lost many dat day aside from Centurion, ja, but since deir loss, many more haff come to de front and shown a dedication dat vould make Centurion proud. Also, our sciences und technologies have progressed by great strides since de Invasion, such dat ve should be able to detect an incoming assault better dan ve could den, und teleport critical resources und manpower to needed zones mit much more speed und accuracy. It is mein belief dat dese advances in particular shall be of greatest aid to us, as it is mein understanding dat Omega und his kind rarely make any sort of technological progress or innovation on deir own, relying on de same technologies -- powerful as dey are -- for decades, centuries, or even millennia before changing... or, more likely, before assimilating und adopting some freshly-gobbled technology."
  17. I disagree. I don't buy that there's only "accept it or House Rule it." I can't accept that it's so insurmountable a task for five Refs to be able to look after ~35 characters and periodically ask, either in PM or in the OOC threads, whether or not any of their Drawbacks or Flaws (or Device discount) have come up, the same as we would any other rules issue.

  19. Groups seem to work best in the 3-to-6 range, in my experience.
  20. No.... "Wealth" is "Benefit (Wealth)". It's just shorter to write the former. And no status comes with it.
  21. D'oh! Looks good, here's her first approval.
  22. Archeville slowly stood up, and rubbed his eyes and face. He looked around, and saw some movement: small figures made of clay, shaped like the ubiquitous robot servants that populated his home. His mind locked up for a moment as he tried to remember what (very) little he'd read on the Golem of Prague, and how he might use Science! to mimic something like that. "Alright," he finally murmured in German, "either I have been transplanted to some alternate Mazes and Monsters world, or the world around me has been changed in a similar way. Right, let's see what I have to work with." "Computer!" "Computer?" "Hello, Computer?" "Right, well, I suppose that would have been too easy. Well, I- oh!" He quickly rifled through his robes, eventually lifting them up, and found his Gravimetric Belt and Electromagnetic Screwdriver were still in their original form. "Ah, good, I feared that would have been changed into a metal wand with jeweled studs or something. Alright, those two are the same. These robes are probably as protective as my lab coat, but I'll test them first." "But slightly more pressing," he said in a firmer voice as he rose up, "is to see what is outside these walls, and to see if I am the only one who is out-of-place." He looked over to where, in his proper laboratory, there would be a pillar of security monitors keeping tabs on local and global news. He was not very surprised to see it was replaced by a small well with several crystal balls around the rim. The balls showed assorted scenes, and when he touched one, the image was transferred to the larger pool of water in the well.
  23. Hrm, now I know I need to meet them, make them an Ally before they become Competition. "Ah, we can kill two birds with one stone, then. Good, good. As I said, set it up, I shall do my best to meet any time they find it convenient." Jos's eyes lit up like tiny stars when Sirius explained Mrs. Mecullen's interests, "I may have something that would interest her even more than the cutlass: an oil lantern, the type used by sailors and pirates from the 1500-1700s." It can even be used to find sunken treasure... at the cost of the life of the diver who retrieves it. The light which shines on the treasure is later used to burn them to death.

  25. Note: Despite being in his early 30s, Archeville's Half-Immunity to Aging makes him look to be in his early 20s.
