"Sooo," Archeville started, paused, then started again, "vould dis Illuminated group be a secretive ding vorking behind de scenes for de betterment of humanity, or someding strictly on de up-und-up, in full view of all?"
-
Doc did not see what Geckolass did there.

"Darian? Darian Cale? Ja, I do know him! Fine lad, quite intelligent, dough a bit... misguided in certain dings." Victoria was quiet as Geckolass explained the details of her ship, nodding at certain parts and glancing around the ship as the pilot talked. "Probably solar powered, dough perhaps... no... vell, maybe...." She seemed lost in thought a moment, but quickly snapped back, "Young man... er, voman... er, vhatever -- I vould very much like to examine your ship, vhen dings aren't so... hectic." Victoria continued to study over the ship as they made their way to her home. "Dere should be just enough room in de back yard for you to land," she said on arrival, pointing to the yard of a plain and unassuming two-story house. The back of his house was quite unremarkable. A sliding glass door was blocked by several trash cans. "Valk dis vay, please," she said as she lead them to the front of the house (looking back to see if Geckolass was doing an Igor impression). Eight lawn gnomes flanked the small path leading form the sidewalk to Archeville's front door. Everyone got the feeling the gnomes were looking at them... but that was just a trick of the light, right? Victoria seemed to have some trouble with the door, judging by the eerily soft stream of German cursing coming from her. A scowl and a wave of her Electromagnetic Lipstick later, and the door was open Victoria (grumbling under her breath the whole way) lead the group down numerous hallways, each with numerous doors leading to large rooms; clearly the place wa bigger inside than outside. At last she lead them to a cellar, stocked with enough barrels of beer and bottles of liquor to stock two German drinking halls; dog-sized spider-shaped robots tended to them. She pulled on a series of taps, and one wall slid open, revealing a huge laboratory/workshop beyond, with dozens of workstations holding any and all manner of experiments and projects. A massive pillar, covered in monitor screens showing an assortment of news reports and experimental readouts, dominated the center. "Right, first dings first," she spun around and was holding a syringe in her left hand, and a specimen cup in her left, "I am going to need blood und urine samples from each of you." *** He began investigating the samples he was able to take -- Hellbroad's blood proved somewhat difficult to sample, and it was eventually decided to skip sampling of White Star at this point -- but about halfway through his investigation, an alarm alerted him of a knock at his front door. He slipped a bluetooth headset over one ear.... Avenger approached the plain and unassuming two-story house, nestled among other equally plain and unassuming two-story houses dotting this residential section of Hanover. The small path leading from the sidewalk to Archevillle's front door was flanked by gaily-painted garden gnomes, four on each side. Each stood about a foot and a half tall, with blue shirts and red pointy hats. As Avenger made his way to the door, he almost thought he saw a pair turn towards him, but when he looked at them they were still as statues. The front windows were all obscured by what appeared to be thick and heavy curtains. The door opened quietly after Avenger knocked, seemingly of its own accord; he did not hear any locks clicking open or chains sliding. The room beyond was fairly dark... but to his unholy nightvision, he saw much. Outside, the house seemed to be a completely ordinary light gray two-story housing unit, the sort that's sprung up all over Hanover in the past few years. Inside, it was quite nicely decorated, with beautifully stained wood paneling along the walls and a tiled floor depicting an odd mandala-like design. Three hallways lead off from the entryway, left, right, and straight ahead. As he looked around, Avenger saw a sparkling chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The ceiling which was far too high for the building, based on the exterior dimensions. Come to think of it, this entryway alone seemed big enough to take up half the house.... Then the robotic gorilla trundled into view, emerging from a concealed closet between the left and central staircases. It wore a butler's tuxedo. "This way, please," it said in an electronically-distorted version of Archeville's voice. It lead him through several hallways, down to the beer cellar, where the concealed door re-opened to let her in. "Ah, glad to see you decided to join us, Avenger," Victoria (from a workstation) and the gorilla (from behind Avenger) said in unison. Victoria removed the headset from her ear, and the lights dimmed in the robo-gorila's eye a bit; it then trundled off. "I'm going to need some of your blood und urine. Dere's a bathroom you can use to your left."

Either of you have anything more planned for this?

Sandman XI (Silver) - Quark - PL13 Hero (NPC Tier 2)
Dr Archeville replied to Sandman XI's topic in Archived Characters
All this time you've had me under the belief that it was applying to the design checks, which is one check (Know/Tech). If it is applying to the construction checks, then that can't be one feat, you'll need one Ultimate Effort for each individual Craft skill. -
Emissary:City Patrol #whichever: The Search for City Patrol
Dr Archeville replied to MarkK's topic in Archives
That would appear to be Cyroa/Dark Star. -
Yeah, I can see that as a viable flaw. Just don't use your elongated hair like Doc Ock to run around on hair-legs. ;)
-
I don't see why he couldn't use his animate hair to pry himself out of someone's grasp. Just work the hair in between their fingers/hands, then pull back.
-
No, since you already repel females. Zing!
-
He couldn't stretch his hair to ensnare someone, like Medusa of the Inhumans, because....?

HIT Science & Engineering Lecture Series, v.2 [OOC]
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Archives
No, you're all cheating. It's about two miles (10,560 feet) to get to that bridge from the Bernanke Center for Extension & Continuing Education on HIT's campus. Knievel's made four cannon-assisted "hops," each one being about 400 feet (calculated as a standing long jump). So he's moved 1,600 feet, or about a third of a mile. We're almost smack in the middle of Hanover Square, a shopping area known for bookstores and other college-life-centric shoppes. No real actions from Doc this round, aside from telling folks to steer clear. Mid-round 8; Initiatives & Conditions 24 -- Arrowhawk -- fine -- 2 HP 23 -- Captain K -- 2 Bruises, Entangled -- 1 VP 16 -- Doc -- fine -- 1 HP 13 -- Dark Star -- fine -- 2 HP Dark Star's turn. -
HIT Science & Engineering Lecture Series, v.2
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Hanover
"It seems to be vorking vell enough, Kapitan," Archeville said as he got closer. Knievel, Archeville and Dark Star were aware of the fact they were now in Hanover Square, a shopping area known for bookstores and other college-life-centric shoppes, including restaurants. Since it was around 6:00pm, lots of folks were out getting dinner on this pleasant late-March afternoon. "Everybody, get back!" Archeville shouted to the crowd. Police sirens could be heard, very loud now. -
What do you imagine you'd lose out on?
-
Yes, but that's also a weakness of superhero comic books that superhero RPG campaigns don't (well, shouldn't) have (unless the campaign's been going on for many years): clear character sheets and a history that should be able to easily remember and reference. Sure, some fudging does occur, but too much and you may as well not have stats or rules.

(thread recruitment) Superpowers and Swords and Sorcery
Dr Archeville replied to MarkK's topic in Archives
Oh, yeah, I double-confirm my interest, too. Bring on the primitive screwheads! -
I'd prefer to wait until after that thread's done before adding all that. Also, I'd prefer if all the Refs weighed in on that big a change before allowing it. EDIT: Also, how can Miz have Regen from unconscious when she switches back to Prodigy when KO'd?
-
Well, you'd need to surge to do all that -- grappling them with the Damaging Move Object would be a standard action, and slamming them into a ceiling would be another standard action.
-
I thought it was more one of these for Magneto. What Xavier did to Magneto immediately afterwards, though....

At the exit, two of the vacuum-bots were waiting. They circled and looked over him first, then began to wipe and drain away the paint. Archeville was also waiting. It was clear he was trying hard not to laugh. "Vell, you... you did much better dan I... I expected. Ja, you... your reflexes are qvite a bit better dan I... I had initially anticipated. Dough I suppose... *ahem* I suppose dat vould be mein own fault, for not taking time to properly examine de readings I took earlier." One of the robots was trying to pull off Hellbound's paint-stained shirt. "I believe dat von likes you," he said with a chuckle. "Seriously, dough, your clothes could use another vash, von more thorough dan de last von dey gave. Und you could probably use a hot shower."
-
Which is why getting character approved takes time, and is as much work for the Refs as it is for the player. ;)

*applauds Sandman* Also, I've updated Wesley.

Initially he was going to be a regular wolverine that the High Evolutionary uplifted into humanoid form. And his claws were part of his costume. Then he was a mutant human, and his metal claws were something the Secret Government Team which gave him his metal bones implanted into his arms. (Some OHtMU entries at the time said they were cybernetic claws.) Only reason Wolvie survived the Adamantium-bonding process was b/c of his mutant healing factor. Then Magneto tore the Adamantium out of Wolvie, and we later found he had bone claws which had been covered by Adamantium just like the rest of his bones. Logan's Swiss cheese memory forgot that his claws were a part of him. (Apocalypse later gave Wolvie his Adamantium back, as part of turning him into his Horseman of Death.) The Origin miniseries (2001-2002) revealed more of his history: he was a sickly child born in the mid-19th century in Canada to rich plantation owners. His birth name was James Howlett. One day discovered he had bone claws and a healing factor and heightened senses and animalistic rages. At the time, his parents were normal humans... but a more recent retcon revealed that Wolverine's parent weren't normal humans, they're mutants. Not just mutants, but from a long line of mutants: his mother (and her ancestors) had bone claws and suffered animalistic rages, while his father (and his ancestors) had a Healing Factor and heightened senses. James Howlett/Logan/Wolverine received both sets of abilities. His regeneration's also creeped up. Used to be that something as nasty as crucifixion could've killed him (if not for being saved by Jubilee), but now he can regenerate from nothing more than a brain in an Adamantium-laced skeleton in a matter of moments. Part of the creep happened when he had his Adamantium removed -- Adamantium's toxic, so for all this time his Healing Factor's been fighting off Adamantium poisoning, and when it was gone, he was able to heal faster. Shortly after he discovered he had bone claws, he freaked and ran out, and was hit by a semi truck. The front wheels crushed several ribs, but they were completely healed by the time the back wheel hits him (and crushed them again). When his Adamantium was restored, that should've slowed his Healing Factor down... but someone forgot to tell the writers. Part of the creep is simply because He's Popular. Another recent-ish retcon: every time Wolvie dies and comes back to life, it's not just his Healing Factor that does it. It's also because he's been kicking the butt of Azrael, the Angel of Death. While Wolverine's body always fully heals from injuries, the return of his consciousness/soul to his body depends upon the outcome of these battles with Azrael; this has been going on since WW I. Also, he's got a son, Daken.

Before Scarab spoke, Archeville had already darted off and was looking over the equipment, looking -- for the moment -- only with his eyes, not his hands (or sensory probes). "Vait -- he installed dis all forty years ago? But... how... de internet vasn't even around back den, ARPANET vas just getting up und running! Unix vas just being developed, und so many fields vere still in deir infancy!" He stopped and took a step back. Well, more accurately, he glided back to the center of the room. "Den again, consider dis: I vear a belt dat can varp gravity, permitting me to fly und to vithstand shellings from heavy field artillery. So it vould be hypocritical of me to chastise Daedalus for not sharing all his discoveries."
