  1. When Avenger comes back out of the sewers with the freshly-beaten Vulture, the Hobo is gone. Scarab sees the two-story house in Riverside, at the corner of Orlando Ave. and Berger Blvd. From her vantage point, she's apparently standing on the sidewalk across the street from the house. Suddenly, a tremor is felt, then a more violent shaking. The roads begin to buckle a bit, and at the intersection a crack appears, falling open into a gaping chasm out of which a foul black smoke rises. A movement out of the corner of her eyes causes her to turn back to the house, and atop it she now sees a great dark red fox-headed spider, so large it barely fits on the roof. Its massive head turns and glares at Scarab with solid black eyes, and it growls, revealing rows of yellowed shark-like teeth. Black silken filaments shoot out from it, from all sides, forming the scaffolding of a great web; some attach to the grounds of the house, some along the street, some stretch out further than she can see. It turns its head slightly, keeping one eye on her, as its spidery legs reach behind the house and pull forth great golden discs (like coins, but the side of dinner plates), which it tosses out. The discs land on the web lines, and where each one lands filaments stretch out between the existing threads, completing the web/net. Now people start appearing, people from all walks of life, all ages, approaching from all sides. They climb up the strands anchored to the ground, towards the golden discs. None fight over them, each person goes for a specific disc. Once they reach their chosen disc, they grab onto it as if it were the most precious thing in the world to them, and smile placidly. When a disc is claimed, more filaments sprout from it, out to those who have yet to start climbing up into the web, making their ascent easier. After a few moments, the claimed discs melt and engulf their handlers, shifting into lead straitjackets. The people keep smiling placidly, seemingly unaware of any change. The fox-headed spider laughs, a demonically deep and throaty sound, and begins to reel in some of the snared people. As it does, when a person is about halfway to it, they stop smiling and begin to shriek, finally realizing their horrible predicament. And they keep screaming even as the monster devours them. And then she wakes up.
  2. He looks vaguely familiar, but you have absolutely no idea where you've seen him before. Before Samdance takes her, first things first: the blood-drinking monster. Avenger's not fed tonight. DC 15 Will save to not feed on Scarab. If he makes that, once Slamdance & Scarab are gone, DC 15 Will saves to not feed on the Hobo (who has numerous scrapes and minor cuts). Going back to the House o' Murder is what would trigger the Precognitive flash I'd mentioned earlier. Which actually works rather well, since Scarab's out and so her mind's kinda... out there. I'll post once we know what the lil' vampire's up to. As for when she'll be recovering: one minute rest, then a DC 10 Con check. If the fails, wait one more minute, make another DC 10 Con check with a +1 bonus, with a cumulative +1 bonus for every other minute/failed save. Then she'll be conscious, but still exhausted. That requires another DC 10 Con check, as above, but at one hour intervals. And once recovered from that, she'll only be fatigued; DC 10 Con check every hour as above. Or, a full ten hours rest and you're good as new.
  3. Doom o'clock. Evening. Sometime between 9:00pm and midnight.
  4. November 1st, 2008 I wonder: do I go too far? Last night I... did something which a few years ago I would barely dream of. Looking back on the past three months or so of my life, I can see a definite change in myself, and not just the obvious things. The question is, are these new feelings solely a side-effect of my increased power, or is the very nature of that power changing me? Does power corrupt, or is corruption a path to power? Part of me envies Faust -- at least he was able to choose what he got! Then again... so what?! Those who have the power make the rules, and I've got plenty of power! And I enjoy it, unlike oh so many 'heroes' who whine and moan about their burdens, their responsibilities. I may not have chosen this, but I'm going to make damn sure I enjoy every second of it, and take as much advantage of it as can! None of this "suppression," none of this "guilt" -- if I hold off on tearing someone's head from their shoulders, it's only because I'm plotting a more fitting torment, not because I see some inherent wrongness in killing them!
  5. There's a slim chance Slamdance may have seen this guy (and remembers who it is). Int check, DC 20 and a Notice check, DC 25; you cannot take 20 on these.
  6. Archeville put his wondrous screwdriver back into his labcoat pocket, then looked back at Darian. "You're free to try, Herr Cale; I'm curious to experience vhat de beam fells like. I vill varn you dat I haff developed quite de resistance to diseases und toxins over de years of experimenting -- built up a tolerance, you might say -- so you may wind up getting something after all."
  7. STAGE FOUR A test of skills and feats. Five parts rather than four. The screens show a metahuman (your choice, canon character, PC, something completely new) as caught on assorted city cameras (traffic cameras and such). The metahuman has some drawback or Flaw on its powers, which was caught by the camera. Notice check to spot something exploitable in the subject. Two Knowledge/Technology checks to design two inventions to use when confronting them. A Craft/Electrical and a Craft/Mechanical check to construct said inventions. Three chances to make each check. You can Take 10 or 20 on the Knowledge check (as with any design check), and can take 10 (but not 20) on the construction checks. Part 1: DC 15 Part 2: DC 20 Part 3: DC 25 Part 4: DC 30 Part 5: DC 35 Yes, that last one you can only make with one of your Craft skills or Know/Tech if you roll a natural 19 or 20 and use Extra Effort to get a +2 check bonus. However, keep in mind that these tests aren't just about seeing what you can do, they're about seeing what you can't do, what you can improve on, and how you handle both success and failure. And assuming he's the type to work until he gets tired, hungry, thirsty, or distracted by something from outside... none of those happen, despite the fact that once he's done he realizes several days should have passed. And when he checks his clocks at the end, he finds that at most three hours have passed since these tests began.
  8. "Phase Three: Complete. Calculating results...", the computer's voice intoned. Eric was really weirded out now. He knew the droids weren't equipped with nightivision sensors, and the quick examination he did on them showed that his was still the case. Yet he was sure that when the Captain Thunder and Bowman droids hit him, they were looking right at him, as if they could see him clear as day. "Phase Three results complete," the computer chirped. "Threat Analysis Matrix operating at 78% efficiency. Warning Systems operating at 58% normal. Suggest re-routing power from circuit 121-B-7 to circuit 740-B-8, and...." The computer continued to list suggested fixes for a good five minutes, unless Malice tells it to stop early. "Filing suggested alterations for later perusal. Initiating Phase Four: 'Preparations and Solution'." The room reconfigured slightly. Tables rather than droids slid out from the wall panels. Most were covered in assorted electrical and mechanical components, but one held several monitors and display screens on it, showing footage of something that made his eye twitch a bit. Well, a bit more.
  9. Possibly. Remind me what school Slamdance goes to and where he hangs out.
  10. Archeville looked on, nodding approvingly. "Very nice, Herr Cale, very nice indeed." He circled Darian, looking at him from all angles... which, very briefly, made part of Darian feel like a seal being circles by a shark. "Now, let me see... I believe mein hypothesis -- vhich you did not refute -- vas dat de suit could not only protect you, but vould also give you de ability to fly, und to copy de abilities of others, ja? May I see a demonstration?"
  11. I loved that show. And the recent marathon they aired on Chiller TV I can think of only one person who should have it: George Kapetelis, owner of Charon Ambulance Services. (And since Charon is ultimately a holding/subsidiary of the Labyrinth, this could bring Ghost & Bel into certain other Big Plans that we've got in the works...) He may not have it on him, of course. It could be in a concealed safe in his office at the Charon Ambulance Services HQ. Or in a concealed safe in the secret chambers under the Charon Ambulance Services HQ, which are of course guarded by some basic zombies and one or two nastier things (like a beefed-up ghoul).
  12. Hrmm... Black Ink, Red Ink, Good Knight, Bad Knight The Bottom Line Competition Opposition Strange Bedfellows Three Can Keep A Secret If Two Are Dead
  13. Your initiative stays the same, you don't re-roll each round.
  14. If you want, sure. Just keep in mind that weeks or even months Real World time can equal a day (or even just a few hours) In-Game time.
  15. Would using his powers fatigue him? Would making one attack fatigue him? No, they would not. So he's still fatigued, not exhausted. :)
  16. Again I mention that having Avenger, Dark Star and Scarab II arrive as Belphegor's "entertaining" would really irritate him. ;)
  17. From your PoV, yes, it is. But the week to meet him to discuss it is this week.
  18. It explodes into a shower of goo. Acidic goo. (Knight needs to make a DC 20 Toughness save)
  19. Ah, alrighty, that's cool. I look forward to reading that. Well, given that we're explicitly trying NOT to run an Iron Age game here, yes, those characters are particularly problematic. (And, as I said, I thought all the chars from that .pdf were dead by now.) Basically, if it's not from the core rulebook, ULTIMATE POWER, or the FREEDOM CITY campaign setting book, you need to ask Ref permission.
  20. Do please remember to select a date for the event (today's date, March 16th, is fine -- you've got to stop her before the St. Paddy's Day Parade!), and write up a summary for the timeline thread.
  21. There can be more than one hero. In fact, it's very likely more than one would show up, depending on how much trouble she causes Unless, of course, you were dead-set on this being a solo thing. Arrowhawk and Spartan have worked together in the past, so them working together again is a good match. As for Captain K... her attractiveness may overpower his dislike of superpowered people Plus, all her powers are an innate part of her species, she might have less problem with that. It is, of course, ultimately up to the player.
  22. I'd go for a mix of Jay & Silent Bob and Bill & Ted. And the Evil DJ from that one ep of Samurai Jack ("Jack and the Rave"). Maze, Rant & Rave are actually in the core M&M book. They're B-grade (at best) villains, often used as mooks/pawns by other villains. They mostly rob banks. B'ran, do send Nyrath my best wishes in the job-hunt.
  23. Captain Knievel is a Villain. We could also/alternatively do Rant & Rave. ;)
  24. Geckoman & Quark, the Tuesday evening before (Sept 22nd), the Riverside Piers Quark hits upon an idea. Going back to his place, he tries to contact the poster of the job online, but fails to find any contact info. Just the instructions to meet him in Riverside Park, between noon and 1:00pm, any day this week. The week's almost over, which means tomorrow's the last day to meet him!!!1! High Note (and Shadow Man?) and Geckoman, the Thursday before (Sept 24th), Riverside Park Chris and Gordy chat. The assistant goes back to his newspaper. Tabitha Connely & Jos Terhune (and a snoopy Ember), early Sept 28th, at the Fens Hunh, she saw him, too. I'll have to keep in mind that she's got a good eye. Jos smirks as he watches Iniquity chase after the fox-man. He turns his head slightly as two of the cyber-goons step to his sides, aiming weapons at the roof. He turns more and sees Kaars, and gestures to him; the men turns, and Kaars gestures to them. They lower/retract their weapons. ">"* ""*, one of the goons asked, looking back and forth between Kaars and Terhune. ">"* * Translated from Crazy Foreign Speak.
  25. The man-sized blob-monster is hit... and freezes.
