STAGE TWO This'll be a test of the power (i.e., Damage capacity) of his weaponry. Again, three chances to damage each one, and you can tackle them in any order you'd like. You roll three Toughness saves for each target against the damage you deal, Part 1: Tougnhess +1 (mook Criminal) Part 2: Toughness +4 (Johnny Rocket) Part 3: Toughness +11 (Impervious 8) (Tesla Atom) Part 4: Toughness +16 (Impervious 10) (Eldrich)

"Phase One: Ended. Calculating results...", the computer's voice intoned. Eric had barely worked up a sweat, so his thoughts turned back to the droids. Not only were their holographic skins better than he'd expected, that last one, of Raven, moved far more fluidly than he thought his droids should be able to. "Phase One results complete," the computer's voice interrupted, "All systems operating within optimum tolerances. Initiating Phase Two: Energy Transferal and Damage Capacity." The panels slid open, and again more droids appeared, looking eerily life-like. They moved slowly, their purpose to test how much damage Malice could dish out.

Triple Murder in Riderside, Rebooted [OOC]
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Archives
Which goes back to my question of how high were they when Scarab dropped 'em, since Avenger's Imp Toughness is only 2, so he'd be in danger if dropped from over 20 feet up. He's the main reason I ask. A far more important question, concerning both equally: where is she dropping them? In the alley/street? On Vulture's head? Onto one of the buildings bordering the alley? -
Not limited by PL, just by what you pay. That said, we've yet to allow any HQ or Vehicle with a Toughness of over 20, and probably never will.

Overall I enjoyed it (and felt it was very well cast), though I thought the different ending made even less sense than Moore's original (well, they both make little sense in light of event from a few years ago, but Snyder's makes even less). I honestly do not see why Snyder felt the need to change it.

Hellbound - Roman Michaels - PL2 (NPC Tier 1)

Looks fine to me, here's his second approval. -
150, just like any other starting PL 10/150pp character.

OVERALL RULES There'll be 5 tests, each one consisting of four "targets", which you get three chances to beat. Each stage will test a certain aspect of the character, such as fighting ability, defensive ability, skills, powers, et cetera. I'll be setting up the challenges, it'll be up to you to describe how he runs through them. He may use extra effort at any time, but the fatigue will remain until the stage is complete; any fatigue suffered will be cured before the next stage begins. Spending an HP for a re-roll is also possible, but once used, it is gone for the entire thread. Any actual damage suffered will also be healed between stages; there will be an explanation as to how that happens, if it happens. STAGE ONE This stage will be a test of Malice's ability to hit a target. You get to roll 3 attempts to hit each target. Damage isn't important here, simply hitting the target is. Part 1 -- Defense 12 (mook crook or thug) Part 2 -- Defense 16 (Maximus Atom at full Growth [Gargantuan, 32 feet tall]) Part 3 -- Defense 20 (Captain Thunder, Daedalus, Lady Liberty) Part 4 -- Defense 26 (Johnny Rocket, Raven)

"Initiate Phase One: Targeting System Calibration", the computer's voice intoned. Panels in the side of the room slid down, and what at first glance appeared to be a woman ran out, followed by a rather brutish thug. Micheals knew they were his combat drones, cloaked in holographic projections, though a part of his mind registered that they were of a noticeably better quality than what he had designed. Perhaps he did a better job than he thought?

"Ah, ja, Ms. Mathews!," the unseen voice said in a far more upbeat (though still eerily synthetic) tone. "Please, follow de Kammerdieneraffe, he shall escort you to de vork-out room." At the word 'escort,' the source of the voice became clear: lumbering into view was a silvery metallic gorilla in a butler's suit. A moment of looking revealed that it was in fact a robotic gorilla, and not some sort of mutant gorilla. When she steps over the threshold into the house itself, lights came on, showing that the inside of the house was far different than what the outside indicated. Outside, the house seemed to be a completely ordinary light gray one-story housing unit, the sort that's sprung up all over Hanover in the past few years. Inside, it was quite nicely decorated, with beautifully stained wood paneling along the walls and a tiled floor depicting an odd mandala-like design. Three hallways lead off from the entryway, left, right, and straight ahead; the robo-gorilla was heading down the left hallway. As she looked around, Liz saw a sparkling chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The ceiling which was far too high for the building, based on the exterior dimensions. Come to think of it, this entryway alone seemed big enough to take up half the house....

Triple Murder in Riderside, Rebooted [OOC]
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Archives
From how high & from how far is Scarab dropping her passengers? If she is in fact dropping them, it's basically damage like from a fall (+1 bonus per 10 feet, Acrobatics check to reduce). Vulture, the hellhounds and his quarry are all in either a wide alley or a narrow closed-off section of street (10-15 feet wide), flanked on one side by a seemingly empty three-story building (perhaps once an apartment) and on the other by a seemingly empty one-story building (may have been a convenience store). "Hobo" is still surrounded by the pack, badly bruised and bleeding from a few cuts and scrapes but still alive. Vulture's initiative: 4 His five Hellhounds: 15 Initiatives -- Character -- Condition -- Location 21 -- Scarab -- Unharmed 19 -- Slamdance -- Unharmed 15 -- Hellhounds x5 -- Unharmed 10 -- Hobo -- Unharmed 13 -- Avenger -- Unharmed 4 -- Vulture -- Unhamred -
Toptom, how public is the knowledge that Benjiro's parents were killed in Devil Ray's bank robbery? For that matter, how public is the knowledge that Micheal's father was killed during a metahuman brawl?

And how would someone who isn't him describe it? He's draining life energy and is boosting... ? Breaking the taboos per his skewed fundamentalist understandings, yes?

The corrected/finalized stats need to be put into the first post, so we're sure to all be looking at the same set. I still don't see his equipment listed anywhere. Be aware that Drain was changed in UP to an "incremental" thing. That is, when the target fails the save, they lose as many points as they failed the save by, to a maximum of the Drain's rank. So if someone gets a 19 on the Fort save (fail by 1), they'd just lose 1 point of Con, but if they flubbed and got a 2 (failed by 18), they'd lose 10 points. His Toughness save should be written as "+10 vs. Physical (Absorption 11), -1 vs. Energy". (Absorption doesn't quite work exactly like regular Impervious Tougnhess.) As for Absorption/Healing: A) He's hit by a physical attack, and the damage rank is less than his Absorption, he takes no damage at all, and gets to instantly make a recovery check (Constitution check) with a bonus equal to the damage rank, to recover from his worst damage condition. If all he's suffering from are bruises or injuries, one of those is automatically healed with no check needed. He's hit by a physical attack, and the damage is equal to or more than his Absorption, you subtract your Absorption rank (11) from the damage, then make a normal Toughness save (at +10) vs. that lowered damage. And then you make a recovery check (Constitution check) with a +11 bonus to recover, as above. C) He's hit by an energy attack. His Absorption does nothing, and he probably gets badly damage. What's the source of his powers? What's the descriptor for his Transfer? If it's sucking life to make him stronger, why isn't it Transfer (Con to Str)? What sort of villainous activities would he do in Freedom?

The door opened quietly after Topaz stepped up on the porch, seemingly of its own accord. The room beyond was fairly dark, though she could just make out some movement, some glints of metal, off to one side of the room. "Halt!" a voice from nowhere commanded. She had heard Archeville speak a few times before, sound bites on television, and this voice did sound like his, but it also sounded very distorted, very mechanical. "Please state your name and the nature of your visit."

First, he's learned the Incubus/Succubus trick for altering his own appearance, while still maintaining the full power of his demonic form (save flight, since his wings disappear when he's in a human form). Second, save for certain rare and potent spells, there is no way to keep him from transforming into Belphegor (i.e., activating his powers) whenever he chooses. However, being in the presence of true demons/demonic magic will make him shed any disguise and resume his true form, in part because his own demonic self is more potent (and like calls to like) and in part because being near it reminds him of all he went through (so it's a reflex to switch to his fully powered form). Commonly assumed forms via "Evil Takes Many Pleasing Forms" [*:gso7h8au] Jean-Louis Fleury/Chevalier ("Knight"Â): Young American teen of French descent with superhuman strength and toughness. An overeager/precocious superhero wannabe. Silver hair ("it's from my mutation"Â), red bodysuit with white piping (with a stylized axe-head, similar to the one from the French coat of arms, emblazoned on the chest), long red cape. Stands 6’3†tall, and is well-proportioned for his size. (Form uses Attractive 2, Fascinate [both], and Enhanced Gather Info.) [*:gso7h8au] Linda Lavoie: Aspiring supermodel from Montreal, Quebec. 5'4"Â, measurements 36D-23-34. Has a very "girl next door" look & vibe. (Form uses Attractive 2, Fascinate [both], and Enhanced Gather Info.) [*:gso7h8au] Guy du Malloup: Wealthy French art collector. Tall (6'3"), constantly smoking and/or drinking, almost always sneering, almost always wears sunglasses. Think Lambert Wilson, specifically his role as the Merovingian from The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. (Form uses Attractive 1, Fascinate [both], and Enhanced Gather Info.) [*:gso7h8au] Daniele Sylvie: Looks like Sophie Marceau. Claims to be an aspiring French actress. Stands 5'8"Â, measurements 36C-24-36. (Form uses Attractive 2 and Fascinate [both].) [*:gso7h8au] Jos Terhune: His old human form. A slender but fit white man in his mid-30s, with short, brown hair, a narrow face, and round glasses. He typically wears grey or tan slacks and a tan jacket with elbow patches; he could pass for a college professor or stockbroker. 5'10" tall, 180 pounds. (Form typically uses Fascinate [both] and Enhanced Gather Info.) [*:gso7h8au] François Tremblay: Quebecois archaeological anthropologist. (Study of the contemporary distribution and form of materials modified by past human activities with the intent of understanding distribution and movement of ancient populations, development of human social organization, and relationships among contemporary populations.) Short (5'4"), mousy brown hair, thick glasses, slight quaver to voice, meek-looking; very Rick Moranis-ish. (Form uses none of the enhanced feats or skills.) [*:gso7h8au] Deidre Whites: Blonde "Cougar" (appears to be early 40s) from the Netherlands, who's up for anything. Anything. Especially if it involves chains, whips, hot wax.... 5'5"Â, measurements 34C-23-34. Has a very "spicy European import" look & vibe. (Form uses Attractive 2, Fascinate [both], and Enhanced Gather Info.) [*:gso7h8au] All forms use the Mind Shield. -

Gi-Ant ** Razorback ** PL10 Villian
Dr Archeville replied to Razorback's topic in Archived Characters
Were you going to come back to work on this guy? -
Welcome to FC PbP! If you've not already done so, please introduce yourself in the Secret Identities thread (link in my .sig). Sounds like this guy has quite a few things in common with one other PC villain here (Malice), and possibly one PC hero (Dr. Archeville). Related? Background's okay, but be aware we try to keep this place more towards the Silver (and Bronze) age of things more than Iron. Adds up. ... adds up, but why does he have absolutely no defense? Points add up, but totals don't. That's a toughness of +16, which breaks your caps. Caps are "hard" caps, which means you can't have extra/overage and just not use it, you're not allowed to have any overage. His Constitution or Protection needs to be lowered. Also, it helps to list the total Impervious next to the Toughness save, so it's all in one convenient place. Adds up, but please alphabetize the skills. Please alphabetize the skills. How is he so wealthy? Did he bring back lots of valuables to trade from ten centuries in the future? Which Srike does that Improved Crit apply to, the Power Fist (the one outside th Array) or the Telepunch (the one in the Array)? Again, the "hard" PL caps means several things here (or in other stats) need to be changed. As things stand now, the Super-Strength gives him an effective Str of 109, enough to lift an entire ocean liner overhead. That's almost as strong as Centurion, the setting's Superman analogue (his effective Str was 110). Is he supposed to be that strong? As mentioned under Toughness, his Protection or Constitution need to be lowered. Telepunch: General Area Effects don't get the benefit of trade-offs, so you're limited to 10 ranks max there. Ranks, in this case, being the same as total Damage. The Selective on the Telepunch should read Selective Attack. Also, what shape Area is that? I'm also not sure how Mighty would interact with an Area thing, if it should work as it does with a Ranged effect (since you don't need to be next to someone and can affect more than one target at a time). Lastly, what's the descriptor on it? Immunity is Permanent, so the duration needs to be changed to Sustained (no change in cost) or Continuous (double cost) to be allowable as an AP. How does the suit make him immune to Crits and Emotion Effects? What's the descriptor for his teleport? Matter Eater 32 is Immunity 5 (ingested things) plus Drain Toughness 27. That's not allowed.

And now MBCE (for GHost) and me (for Dr. Archeville) are Gold status!   And now we're going to see how the reward for Gold status -- upgrading an existing PL 6 char to PL 10 -- will work. The PL 10 version will be submitted to the Character Bank, just like any new PL 10 character, with two exceptions. First, you won't need to include the background and personality and such, since those are still on the PL 6 char sheet, though you should include some text on any changes to powers and skills and such. Second, you should post [Gold Upgrade] in the title of the thread, so we'll know it's an upgrade request and not a truly new character. The PL 10 version would need to be approved, just like any other character. Once it is approved, one of the following happens: * If the upgrade is to take place immediately, and for all active threads the char is currently in, the new tats will be edited into the existing char sheet, removing the old stats in the process. * If the upgrade is to wait, if the lower PL stats are still being used in an active thread, then the approved PL 10 stats will instead be added to a new post at the end of the character's existing sheet. Once the upgrade does take effect, the stats will be edited in to replace the lower PL ones. Any pps earned while still playing the lower PL version (after the PL 10 one had been approved) would go to the PL 10 one.

I'll handle Malice's test.

Who wants to hear a Mad Scientist lecture at college?
Dr Archeville replied to Dr Archeville's topic in Archives
Another possibility: Physical Sciences covers chemistry and engineering. Perhaps the lecture could be on materials science, something Shinken (for his armor) and Arrowhawk (for his arrows) could be interested in. Dark Star may be interested, too, if he thought the topic might lead to the development of a suit that would let him contain his energy form. Captain Knievel may think it could be used to make cans that could keep his beers colder, longer. -
I'm not sure. Boost gives you points that can be assigned to some trait, but I'm not sure if those temporary skill ranks would be considered 'trained' ranks. To be safe, though, you should probably just add the Jack of All Trades feat.
